LOL! Orpha! Did she get much abuse for it?
and oops! Sorry about the unchecked amounts of alcohol. I got slapped on the wrist by the Bravo police for serving alcohol to a minor. Apparently, brebaby is 20. I gotta card everyone from now on. laugh.gif

Well, I just responded to Ted's blog. He claims that Antonia and Lisa did indeed use Polish sausage for the now-infamous challenge, and uses the posted recipe as proof. I cited Steph & Jen's recipe (when I printed it out, the asparagus, goat cheese, and olive tapenade were missing) and Erik's corn dog recipe as examples of Bravo recipes that didn't match the show.

We'll see what, if anything, happens.

QUOTE (SimonBao @ May 1, 2008 - 02:21 PM) *
Tele, peanuts and tomatoes isn't quite a Combo from Another Planet. I've eaten stews and soups in West Africa that use unsweetened peanut butter and tomatoes. Some have also had rice in them, or green leaves of some kind, or some animal flesh. Goat or guinea fowl, I think. Actually, they taste fine. But the stews and soups have additional seasonings that give them complexity. We had a huge day-long party for the Live 8 concerts, all cooks asked to prepare all African foods, and one of them was Mafe, a peanut butter and tomatoes stew made with chicken. (I can send the list of dishes and their recipes.)

But Mafe is really a long long boat ride away from what Stephie did. blink.gif

Simon, I've been trying to get through the avalanche of posts before I add my own thoughts on last night's show, but I can't resist tagging on a brief comment here.

I was surprised last night at the comments from the judges, and am also surprised today, at all the posted comments expressing shock at the combination of peanuts and tomatoes. I don't have one-thousandth the culinary knowledge you obviously have -- but I too have eaten dishes in West Africa with peanut butter and tomatoes, and have found them delicious. (By the way, I would love to see that list of recipes you mention -- I would love to try to replicate, allbeit amateurishly, some of the dishes I have loved in Africa.)

I got a lot of flack last week by suggesting that some foods just do not go well together. I was wrong in what I wrote, and I deserved the criticism I got. I think a similar lesson may apply here regarding Stephanie's misture of ingredients. It's not the combination of tomatoes and peanut butter that failed Stephanie. She just didn't do it in a successful way.

QUOTE (SivartAlappes @ May 1, 2008 - 12:36 AM) *
Ok... so let's try out my game idea of "What would YOU have cooked?"

QUICKFIRE CHALLENGE: 15 MINUTES WITH UNCLE BEN'S MICRO-RICE
Holy CRAP! 15 minutes, that's it? I gotta not only come up with something amazing in 15 minutes time period but I need to incorperate microwavable rice!? Hmmmm.... Well, the very first thing that popped into my head is Egg-Foo Yung! But then, if it's this season, I see Dale over there and I'm like "crap! He's probably going to do some kind of oriental thing... probably half the kitchen is doing oriental because it's obvious! So on we go to the NEW plan A: I'm going to find the biggest freakin' chicken breast in the kitchen! I'm going to cut off all the skin and fat, and then butterflythe breast (BUT NOT TOTALLY IN HALF). I make sure it's still connected. Grill that sucker up real good and season it with some lemon, pepper, and thyme. Then I get some spinach on the grill (or a pan) and season it with salt, pepper, garlic and lemon until it's nice and compact. The chicken goes on the plate, and since it's cut in half it'll act like a sort of "hot dog bun". Inside I put feta cheese, the grilled spinace, and long grain rice. It gets served with a slice of lemon.

ELIMINATION CHALLENGE: $10 BUDGET MEAL FOR 4
I don't even consider this much of a challenge! I come from a pretty low-income family, so this $10 thing for a meal is about average. So my $10 shopping list will include: Broccoli, Couliflower, cream cheese, small shell noodles, shredded cheese (cheddar and mozz), sour cream, fresh bacon, milk, and 4 chicken legs. I'm assuming the kitchen already has flour and spices. I'm making fried chicken, mac&cheese with diced bacon, and fried broccoli/couliflower/creamcheese patties.

Hi, Siv, and welcome! Please share recipe for creamcheese patties.

You know, there's something to be said for that arms crossed over the chest . . . it's virtually combative and if not that, at least passive-aggressive.

Now, I've noticed that Antonia has a leg stance of one draped over the other, and I'd take that to be equivalent. There have been two EC JT when her stance has been that way.

I take that to be just as combative as the arms crossed over the chest.

Perhaps. Or perhaps she's "learned" to not stand straight in an attempt to be the petite little thing Americans love huh.gif
