There is, I think. Richard's like a kid with a new toy that he loves to play with and show everyone else. Marcel's more like the kid who keeps pointing out that he's got the toy and you don't. Richard's about enthusiasm, Marcel's about one-upmanship. I never not once saw him say that. They told you he did ....but did you ever actually hear him say ... my way is better. His joy and love of his craft is what I saw. Ilan hated him the first day...and then it started. Drunk frat boys don't like nerds. JMNSOHO!!! -------------------- |

I'm not sure that there are many people who really put Hung and Marcel in the same category, notwithstanding that they know one another. I didn't start disliking Hung until he started the "they just didn't understand me" whine when one of his dishes got slammed. I'd have to go back and find it again, but I'm 99% sure it was the Week 7 Quickfire where they had to create a topping for Coldstone Ice Cream. Hung tried to mix raw cauliflower and ice cream, and when he got called out for it, said in his interview/confessional that the judge "didn't understand the dish." That's just childish. This guy's palate is at least as good as yours, kid, and he's one helluva lot more experienced than you are--if he says your dish has issues, I don't think it's because he didn't "understand" it. -------------------- My real name is Jim. No....but we can say the same for Sam. And Ilan. And Betty. Maybe not so much Elia, since she came across more as a perfectionist in general and food was just her primary means of expressing it. But Betty in particular was passionate about food. She said it herself, she loves cooking for people and giving them her food. Sam and Ilan were serious, focused chefs--and none of the three had anywhere near the interpersonal problems that Marcel had. Sam had issues with him. Ilan had issues with him. Cliff had issues with him. Betty had issues with him. Frank had issues with him. Even Elia, who started out as pretty much his only ally in the loft, developed issues with him. Cliff never did if you go back.....Not really. Nor did any of the others. Ilan was a baby and a brat and Sam...that guy....Frank... please HACK.. and Betty was bonkers. She has even said she was wrong now looking back. Sam even said he didn't like either of them..... Frank or Betty. Elia started not liking him when he became a threat. She even said it... he was never a threat till the end...You forget ....I have read every word and heard every interview about that season. I asked Carlos point blank in an email. Was he that bad??? He said NO... So did Mikey once...He changed his tune later after his boys acted like idjuts...Remember...Marcel turned them in for the Vicodin and beer. I don't believe the problems were his fault ONLY...Look at the peeps who DID have problems with him. They really aren't all that to begin with. They were drunk all the time save for Elia. Marcel was not. Well I guess we disagree...lol This post has been edited by Kristlkrost: May 5, 2008 - 01:31 PM -------------------- |

I never not once saw him say that. They told you he did ....but did you ever actually hear him say ... my way is better. A couple of times, actually, towards the end. His joy and love of his craft is what I saw. Ilan hated him the first day...and then it started. Drunk frat boys don't like nerds. If anyone was an ex-fratboy, it was Cliff. Ilan was just as nerdy as Marcel was. And again, Ilan wasn't the only one who had an issue with Marcel. Cliff, Sam, Betty, and Frank all disliked him, too, starting from the third week of the competition when Marcel deliberately tried to distract Betty while she was cooking. And yes, I know Betty called Marcel out before that--but she did so AFTER he finished cooking, and she eased off because she didn't want to distract Sam while he was doing his dish. -------------------- My real name is Jim. Cliff never did if you go back.....Not really. Nor did any of the others. Are you kidding? What about in the comfort food challenge when Cliff said he'd have stopped cooking and punched Marcel in the head if he were Betty? What about Sam calling Marcel a little gnat while they were shopping for Restaurant Wars? What about Frank threatening to treat Marcel to a therapeutic beating for Thanksgiving? What about the whole group refusing to help Marcel serve his Deadly Sins food until he apologized to Betty for snapping at her (which, in point of fact, I don't think he did--but the whole incident pretty much proved whom the rest of the chefs liked and whom they didn't)? What about Elia and Ilan calling Marcel out in the semifinals for his kitchen behavior? Ilan was a baby and a brat and Sam...that guy....Frank... please HACK.. and Betty was bonkers. She has even said she was wrong now looking back. Sam even said he didn't like either of them..... Frank or Betty. Elia started not liking him he became a threat. I don't think so. -------------------- My real name is Jim. Feel free to call me that instead of Second, if you prefer.

Second, so far there hasn't once been an instance I have seen where Richard expressed contempt or disdain for his fellow chefs' work... let alone for his fellow chefs themselves. Think about that and recall what Marcel was often expressing contempt and disdain for. Or rather, who. To me, that's the insufferable part. And the fact that other chefs were "competitors" doesn't ever excuse contempt and disdain. Seriously, what kind of person gets into a c*ck fight over a cooking competition? So I do think you're seeing Richard act with enthusiasm, and also express enthusiasm that what he knows or is able to do something he thinks is cool - without ever using that as a premise to scorn others. -------------------- |

Enough with Marcel. Ugh. I just had lunch. LOL! I love him and Jimster. Betty started that fight and he finished it rather quietly unlike Betty the BIG mouth. I see it all so differently...I mean they ALL had terrible character flaws...Marcel was the only one who wasn't a bully. The END!! Hung did that more than once, though I think it was typically in a Quickfire. In fact, one could usually count on Hung saying something about the judge's taste or wisdom. His curry seafood entrails soup with the too-large croutons. Bombay sapphire challenge. I think with his runny chocolate pie. His crazy ice cream. Possibly after his non-winning burger for Boulud. Fruit Loopy Happy Time Wonderland breakfast cereal... I could go on but Hung really was a bit whiny, wasn't he? LOL In hindsight, much of the time Hung either won a Quickfire, or got called out. -------------------- |

They would come out of those confessionals and tell him they just trashed him and say....hey it's part of the game.......dude. How would you react?? -------------------- |

They hated the kid from day one. That couldn't possibly be because, in the very first challenge, he claimed he was put in the bottom four because the other chefs felt threatened by him, could it? Tele, your coworker might not want to sell you a rooster, for the real Coq au Vin. In the unlikely event that you live near Amish farmers who sell to the public, you can always alert them ahead of time, you want an Old Bird... as Old as they've got. Even a rooster (c*ck), if he's outlived his usefulness. No problem with my co-worker. He said he'd be glad to. He only keeps one rooster around though. I told him that I'd like to buy an old rooster occasionally, so he's going to keep two or three around from now on. He keeps them less than two years and then sells them to a guy who buys odd stuff like that. So I really need to wait a little while for the old bird to toughen up. I'm not willing to wait years though <g>. The only thing is, he doesn't think there will be enough blood from the one rooster to thicken the dish so he's going to save up some blood from when he slaughters a couple of his chickens for his own use. He said there might be enough blood, but collecting it from a single bird can sometimes be difficult. Oddly enough, we have an Amish community only about an hour south of us here in Tennessee. Who'da thunk it? This post has been edited by teleburst: May 5, 2008 - 02:21 PM -------------------- Like music? Check out my show "Pop Top" on Fridays 5-7pm CST at www.radiofreenashville.org
