Episode 9: Precious Pocketbook Options

I had an idea. I don't know if I'm crazy or it's just the decongestant haze I've been in all week but...

We should set up a page like on Facebook or MySpace and add all of the links we find. That way when people are looking for links and articles, we can direct them to the page and not have to sort through pages of posts.

We could name it after you, or course, and could even have separate pages for each city, like Trixie Belden in Atlanta and Trixie Belden in the OC!!

I've never set up one of those pages, but kids do it so how hard can it be??

Am I nuts or do I just need a good night's sleep?

I don't know, sleep NOOO!!! It's going to be a long night.

I think a page for DC Wives would be good I have a bunch at Atlanta 1 but they get buried. I'm watching for stuff from them because they're new.

Everyday there are article links to websites about stuff going on that day with the wives and updates about that weeks show.

Then there are past shows links that have a lot in comment sections, like the ones we put up on OC lately.

And the court house links...like Kim's nursing license for example or Tamara's husband/son court stuff that's updated and Slade court stuff and Vickie's day is coming.

There are industry specific links about Bravo and the ratings and press releases like the one about the clothing line. There was a news conference/press release and then details come out later in other links from other websites, it would be great to have them together.

I think it would be a good thing because everyone is interested in different kinds of info and people go to different sources and everyone could put stuff up on threads in a resource place.

That way people can find what they want and posters will put what links interest them. Like drama gossip that pops up on TMZ it would be great to have that right there and then people can talk about them back on the boards. I mean we all can put up links in a place and then bring a copy to where we want to talk about them.

For example, Luann put up a cute pix this morning on her facebook of her on a ride in central park but it's just a pix update and there may be a sighting of Ramona shopping but is it worth linking because it's just a sighting. It would be good to be able to put random stuff like that up and people can surf as they wish.

Bravo has plenty of sleeping threads in each show so we wouldn't have to go elsewhere.

I just created a Facebook page with the name Pat Bravo (really creative, huh). We can go there but beware I am new at this so not sure what I am doing. Don't know what walls are, etc. But willing to learn. Heck if I learned how to post the bus here maybe I can do it and we can learn together. But everybody has to go cause I am not doing it by myself. Rienne that means you cause you have to move Trixie's links and see how it works.

I am wondering how the show is going to be. Holly and Bridget were pretty endearing. Kendra I didn't like, but I did watch her show and she was very sweet and seemed really happy. So, she won me over eventually. I read the twins started a big hoo ha at her baby shower...I don't think I will like them too much...kinda trashy...

Does that mean we are going to see them all posing and carefully shielded behind some plant or coffee cup...will they be old pix, pix of each wife...what's up. I think the article said "focusing heavily on The HoNY" is it a general reality star/Bravolebrity???a whatsitwhose...

It was me who posted it. The article was in the New York Post today that it is an old picture and it not going to set the world on fire taken by her ex and expect to see a lot about it on the show. Now you can take that for what it is worth. Did Bravo have anything to do with her being in Playboy? That is up for grabs. Also a question of if she was going to be on the cover of Dec. issue but Playboy did not return calls.

Bethenny Frankel better come out with a Skinny Girl Dramamine-tini, because the world at large is going to need it when Kelly Bensimon of The Real Housewives of New York City flaunts her lopsided tittays in the pages of December's Playboy. That is the worst Christmas present ever.

InTouch Weekly says that Kelly won't bare it all. Thankfully, she's keeping her leather cooch wallet to herself. Kelly's ex-husband, photographer and former Elle creative director Gilles Bensimon, will shoot the pictures. The source added, “Kelly is a former model, so she will be a natural."

Lots of thoughts in my head and I'm trying to put them down logically, please bear with me.

I'm going to try to discuss these as you bring them up, In blue.

I may be using Bravo when I actually mean the individual production companies, it's just that Andy Cohen salivates and falls all over himself whenever thing get over the top.

That's what network executives do when their shows do well.

In addition, the following statements have been made by women who have left the show:

According to DeShawn Snow the network decided that she wasn't a good fit for the show anymore.

Quinn Fry stated, "Bravo is making a few cast changes and who knows - I must have not been the right fit on the show or too old or whatever?"

Yes. Networks can ask production companies to change casts in scripted shows too. If someone isn't working, it's to everyone's advantage for them to be replaced.


I admit that I don't know how a reality show is filmed, but there are certain things I have picked up on:

There is often no relationship between the women when they are not taping.

Many scenarios are often set up just to shoot the women at the same place.

Situations are created simply to give characters a story line and story lines are created before shooting begins.

All true. This is probably the 'brand', i.e., it's true of all the shows. Generally at least one person knows another.

Bios are often fictionalized by Bravo.

Bios are fictionalized. We don't know by whom. Chances are, they are ficitonalized on screen.

The story is not shown in chronological order.

Right. This allows for the creation of an artificial climax.

In each of the shows there are unstable women who become even more so when liquor is involved. While some situations occur naturally, much of it becomes inflamed by the producers to get higher ratings.

Right.

This is supposed to be a reality series that Bravo is ordering, so how can they know there will be an arc, or trajectory, where drama will escalate and stakes increase, episode by episode, until the climax and that it will fall neatly into the production schedule. If there wasn't, Bravo wouldn't be buying.

They can and do create situations of potential friction. Then they rearrange those pieces into something that looks like escalation.

I think once Teresa flipped the table, the show moved into another dimension, which is why I was asking earlier, where do you see the end being? Is this going to be like the end of "Network"? I mean, if you get high ratings for pulling a wig, or choking someone, what's next? Clearly the producers can't tell someone to do bodily harm to someone else, but these women aren't stupid, and they do want fame. And this cast seems to want infamy.

I guess I believe that Bravo is more invested in these shows than just as the end-user and that they have more say in what happens than a network does with scripted television

They are invested. That is exactly the word for it. They have invested money with this production company to give them a product that will produce a big return. And as the end-user they have as much say as in scripted tv. In scripted tv the network is kept apprised of the content of every script, of arcs for characters and for the season, and the network can kill any of those it sees fit, veto them, make changes, etc. As things occur (wig pulling for example), the production company tells the network what they've got, and the network might suggest throwing those two people together again and again, because clearly something is going to happen. No network is hands off. I just dispute that Bravo is as hands on as some people here seem to believe.

Admit it, "Real Housewives" fans. Ever since you heard snippets of the infamously remastered "Real Housewives of Atlanta" masterpiece “Tardy for the Party,” Kim Zolciak’s electronically enhanced vocals have been playing on loop in your head for days. Kandi Burruss and her team of producers revamped the bland country tune — thanks? — and have made being late to parties acceptable, if only because it makes for an opportunity to sing the catchy hook.

And as if singing along to the music gem wasn’t enough, Bravo just released a new music video for the dance ditty. But don’t expect a mini-movie of Kim covered in diamonds and pearls as she takes the Benz out for a swirl. It’s essentially a compilation of footage from the series. Enjoy!

Derek Blank, a local photographer, got some great publicity courtesy of “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” in which his “alter ego” photos were taken of each housewife.

Not only did his photos get great feedback from the ladies, he avoided any real drama.

Bravo, he said, didn’t twist the events related to him.

He first met NeNe last year for some photos and they became friends. He suggested to her that they all do portratis for him. And alas, it became a two-episode story arc for the show.

His take on each person–

Kim Zolciak (Stepford Wife/ Mistress) : “I’m not sure she got the entire concept. I would have liked to have seen more expression on her face.” (A colleague of mine said the laundromat they used at Ansley Mall Fashionaid has had folks come by to take pictures at dryer #7 where Kim was shot.)

Kandi Burress (DUI driver/victim): “She did an excellent job. We had an artist paint cracks on the window. We added lens flares as possible car lights. Smoke machines. Hers was the most elaborate. I enjoyed it.”

Lisa Wu Hartwell (bully/victim): “I think she’s done some acting. She’s a good actress. She followed directions really well.”

Sheree Whitfield (stealing from herself): “She was a little uncomfortable at first. She needed a little help to pull that off. Kandi helped her get her true emotion out. It came out nice. It was the last favorite to shoot but I was pleased how it turned out.”

NeNe Leakes (stripper/prim customer): “She had a good time. She enjoyed it. She’s a character.”
