How did you think the Fab Five did helping one of their own?

They were wonderfully fabulous as always! If they ever want to help a straight southern woman out I'd love to volunteer! I thought we might see a Jeff / Thom hook up for a few minutes there. Jeff - that older man comment sank you honey.
my_guy_ky
Well, I'd been burnt out on the show for quite a while, so I hadn't watched or posted in ages. (me, of all fans - burn out on QE?? Pigs are flying, people!) In the past few weeks, I'd caught some of the Vegas episodes, and while I appreciated the change in venue, they were more about helping the SGs promote their careers and get more famous, even in the name of good causes. But I was pleasantly surprised with tonight's show. It had more of the flavor of the original format, except that the MB was gay. This one was far superior, IMO, to the first gay MB episode.
I didn't care for the MB wanting the apt. to look gay because his roomies were straight, and it's unfair to force your tastes on them. Now, if he wants his own bedroom ("masterbatorium" ) to look gay, that's just dandy. I'm glad that Thom kept in mind that the apt. didn't need to be gay just because a gay guy lived there. I liked their flirting scene at the furniture store. I guess Jeff is a bit insecure with his identity as an out homo, but I'm glad that Thom mentioned before the FF left his apt. that there are all types. Jeff is also fortunate to have open-minded, understanding, supportive parents.
The cooking lessons are a great hobby for Jeff. Great idea, Ted! I still don't get what they did with the beans on the tart pastry, though. Were they to weigh it down while baking? Or - holy veneers, Batman! - were the hard, uncooked beans baked onto the crust?
Carson's golden curls are looking great.
I also enjoyed this episode because it had Hip Tips at long last! Loved Jai's. Also the way Ted growled at him.
Kyan...Kyan, Kyan! Yum! I just want to rip his clothes off, throw him down and have my way! His Hip Tip was very informative, and with these humid days I've had in my State of Bliss lately, I'll have to give it a try. The Vegas episodes showed more of the SG's face, and hardly any of Ky, but this show gave us more of Kyan. Nice. And in The Loft, he was shaved, which I hadn't seen in a while, but I just want to lick whipped cream from his smooth face. My only complaint about tonight's show was that Kyan had on too much clothing. C'mon, Bravo! It's summer! Have Wardrobe get it together!

The former. It's called baking blind and it's used when you bake an empty piecrust (putting filling straight onto raw pie crust before baking can make the crust soggy, or some fillings don't get baked at all but added afterwards, eg strawberry tart), and it's to help the pie crust hold it's shape and stop the bottom bubbling up. You can use real beans or buy ceramic beans from a cooking store.
I kind of hated the first gay 'straight guy' (although I loved Kyan bike riding and Ted's barely disguised contempt in the restaurant) - I'm going to go look for this on iTunes if it's available yet. Nice to see you posting, btw.

Jeff is a very cute guy. I hope he finds someone. It's nice to know that his roommates support him,and there is not no homophobia. Poor Thom seemed a little put out at the idea that he was being called the OLDER MAN !!, Thom we all go through those feelings...As Ted said Thom taste run on the masculine side so Jeffs roommates had nonthing to fear. Loved the colorful shoes Carson wanted him to wear. Jai enjoyed playing matchmaker and his friend a good match for Jeff. I loved that everyone was enjoying themselves at the party. The guest ladies were an added plus as was the gay politican. (we need more of) I hope more parents of gay couples come to except their childrens life style. This make over of a gay man was by far the best !!
tomasulo
MGK!!! Hey, how you doin'? It's possible that this episode had a lot of the flavor of the previous seasons because it was filmed last August. There are some extra shots from the filming on the smugmug website.

Oh yeah, Thom seemed mightily offended by that "older men" remark but made a great comeback in the furniture store acknowledging the double entendre ".....great shape with a thick base...." and his vodka Hip Tip at the end. Don't worry......you've still got it, Pumpkin. Thom has always been a proponent of gays and straights mixing and mingling and not making a divisive issue out of their sexuality. It was good to see the guys putting that into practice in this episode. Jeff and his roommates were a nice group of guys....full stop. That point was wonderfully demonstrated when the FF attempted, in the beginning, to figure out who was the homosexual using so many of the tired old stereotypical yardsticks. Snaps to you all for a lesson in "assuming". Jeff did freak me out a bit when he was in the kitchen narrating to himself. But I kind of liked it so let you freak flag fly, Jeffy! Mom and Dad were super. Big hugs to them for being so enlightened.
MidniteBlue
I thought maybe Jeff was narrating to the camera crew. Then he called the tart "buddy." I actually do talk to myself too, but not to that extent.

I was also half expecting Jai to set HIMSELF up on the blind date with Jeff! I wonder how he knew Michael?

Overall, I found this episode highly enjoyable. I actually laughed out loud during the reveal, which I hadn't done in a long time. The product placement was toned down and it felt more like the earlier episodes. And the guys seemed to genuinely like and enjoy making over Jeff, and I appreciated their comments about stereotypes.

1st time poster here. I LOVE this show! It's definitely the most entertaining show on TV!
my_guy_ky
Thanks for the 411 on the use of beans for baking pie crust, Naomi. I hadn't been on this board in ages. I was about to post about this episode on Carson's site, but there was no thread up for it yet, and figured that this site would have more action. Nice to talk once again to the familiar regulars like you, Tomasulo, Midnite and others and to see some new names. I'd been burnt out on the show (and it's long breaks between seasons!) for so long, but if there are more like this one, I'll just have to keep on posting like the good ol' days. Like Tomasulo and Midnite, I understood Jeff talking to himself while cooking. I know that if it was Queer Eye for My_Guy_Ky, I'd do the same thing. I tend to talk to myself anyway (oh, HUSH!) and he knew that he was being filmed. Although, I'd draw the line at talking to the food being cooked.
The show made me smile at the double entendres and when the roomies were eating the tart, I even chuckled for the first time in many shows. It was lighthearted, not trying to be anything socially conscious, serious, too extravagant or with any sob stories. Just fun and informative.
BTW, welcome to the boards, Vinmariani.

This is my first post--I am new to this message board, but have been watching QE for ages! Does anybody know what music was used in this episode...when Jeff was getting showered and dressed? It sounded a little bit like some of the VERVE retro-remixed-jazz stuff and I really liked it, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to read the credits at the end of the show and I have spent some time this morning scouring the Bravo! Website to no avail...anyone?

my_guy_ky! Good to see you again! I thought this was a great episode too, much like the older ones - although as tomasulo said, it's older than the Vegas ones. It was filmed in August, I think. It was one of the mysterious ones they didn't show in the spring for whatever reason. So's the one next week. I liked the Vegas ones as a change, but this was more like the ones I fell for originally.

That was really funny, although I sure felt for Thom as I have these "wow, you're ancient!" moments more and more often. Thom looked VERY taken aback.

I hope Jeff learned that lesson well - never never never refer to someone as "older", even if you think it's a compliment. It's much like asking a woman if she's pregnant. You may mean she looks beautiful, she's glowing, she seems really happy, etc etc etc --- but if you ask that and she's NOT, it's the biggest insult ever.
my_guy_ky
Hey, Raindog! Good to see you too, and I'm looking forward to next week's show.

hey! does anyone know where they bought that beautiful watercolor painting they had in yr living room? it was a painting of a blue flower or swirls...something like that

Hey stranger, good to see you!

I guess Jeff is a bit insecure with his identity as an out homo, but I'm glad that Thom mentioned before the FF left his apt. that there are all types.

Gotta agree there. There were quite a few times that Thom showed, and said, that there is no one way to be 'gay'.

Absolutely!

Actually, I knew this! It does work. Rubbing an ice cube along the inside of your wrists works too (and is likely less messy.) Works the other way around too with hot water on a cold day.

And in The Loft, he was shaved, which I hadn't seen in a while,

LOL. I had gotten so used to seeing the stubble that it was almost a shock to see him clean shaven.

Fun episode. I enjoyed it.

That board doesn't do individual episode threads anymore. You'll find the current episode talk over on the "Queer Eye" forum link under the thread "New Episodes ... "

I'm dying to know the name of that song too.....It's sung by a female vocalist and begins with lyrics "tired of waiting, I have to prepare - to get my ass into the rags I wear."

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE NAME AND ARTIST???

thanks!

Does anyone know who the sneakers were made by?
tomasulo
Nothing wrong with Jeff's blind date, Michael, but I kinda liked Lyndon, the sales associate at Reiss. He was cute and he seemed to have a nice personality......hey, Jeff, maybe you should go "shopping" again.
candozier
Oh my goodness! where have YOU been?!?

Glad to see YOU back!
candozier
I loved this post!
You mentioned each one of the guys but saved the "best" for last!

Kyan finally lost it and yelled, "Who the _____ is he talking to?"

Hmm, I don't recall whether we met, being that you registered here about the time I went away to the Carson board. But, I see that you're a Kyan fan, so it's great to make your acquaintance!
candozier
No, we haven't met but it's always nice to meet another Kyan fan! lol

Drop me a line when you can!

I also meant to say, we "Kyan fans" need to stick together because there still seems to be SO few of us! lol

Have been watching the outtakes on Bravo website...didn't Kyan make a great tour guide? And he and Carson singing Cher's "Half Breed"?

http://360.yahoo.com/candozier
candozier
Yes they were! lol Poor Kyan lost it, watching Jeff talk to himself..."Who the ____ is he talking to?"

Those were great outtakes. I just figured them out the other day. Last time I'd looked, there were only one or two things and they weren't working.

It does seem like Thom's fans dominate this board. A few of us have analyzed this phenomenon in the past and the best excuse we could come up with is that, in the beginning, TTB (ThomsTeddyBear) honored us by dubbing us "Thom's Wives". It united us into a very tightknit group, but I promise you that it's no slight to Kyan or the fans that have managed to cling on here, holding their own in the mass of "Wives". Kyan's fans have always reflected the warmth, sweetness and intelligence of Kyan himself. Big hugs to all the guys and their diverse fans.

I haven't seen many shows--not really into the stereotypically gay stuff myself. But when I caught a glimpse of this episode (after I finished drooling over the cute guy!) I decided to watch since I find myself in a similar rut. (Except I've been out for 4 years now, and still have no dating life...bah.)

Think I may start watching more, though. It was an interesting episode.
candozier
Hey Naomi....any more news on the guys in Manila? There's a girl in our Yahoo group who's planning to see them. A few of the members sent her wishes to pass along to the fellows and she plans to give the group a full report when she gets back! I told her to give Kyan the BIGGEST hug from *us* that she can....within the legal limits! lol

I take it you're refering to Kyan Douglas, the Grooming Guru.
Anyway, welcome to the board.
candozier
It's gotta be him! lol

Hey, my_guy_ky....I'm gonna be working on that webpage for Kyan today....
If you're in the neighborhood, let me know....

Hi, I'm new here (but not to the show!)

I'm not sure about Michael. I don't know if it was a) being on TV, cool.gif being on a blind date, or c) his friend Jai sort of railroaded him into the situation, but Michael seemed awfully reserved, even stuffy. He hardly smiled; he hardly spoke. I hope if they followed up with a more natural date that Michael loosened up. Jeff seems like a really sweet guy and he needs someone who'll appreciate him.
Pseunsestence
its nice to hear from the NE Ghost Project people again. Yall seemed to have a lot of fun out in the night with the insects.

Jeff, you have such infectious enthusiasm. Im excited to read the new book.
