I'm with you Raymondo, I think Heidi felt threatened by Alison. She was fresh and young and has been getting an awful lot of attention. Tim liked her and remember in the preview episode when they were going over the designers they were going to pick to be on the show this season? Even Michael said 'she's pretty and nice? call the newspaper" lol or something like that so I know he liked her to. I think it was Heidi that decided Alison had to go and the other judges went along with her. As far as I'm concerned, if you can't walk in a dress then its not wearable and vincent should have been off the show.

A question for Michael Kors: What is "a woman's body"? I get tired of hearing him say how one designer really understands a woman's body (Chloe) and how he can't fathom how a woman designer (Alison) could fail to understand a woman's body.

Since when are we all shaped the same? In my own family, my mother is built straight up and down, with a small bust and no defined waist and hips. Her backside is as flat as an ironing board. On the other hand, I have rather generous breasts fronting a small-boned body (32D bra), broad hips, a prominent backside, and a very defined waist, with a 12-inch difference between my waist and hip measurements. My sister is built somewhere in between.

So, again I must ask Mr. Kors: What is "a woman's body"?

What I don't understand is how Michael can compliment Jeffrey's garment so much--"yours was the only one that flowed" and yet he doesn't win. Michaels was good, but I think Jeff's was better. I agree it's about time to get a few new judges, Vera Wang would be good to add as a regular.

TO ME IT'S ALL VERY OBVIOUS, VINCENT HAS BEEN ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK NEARLY EVERY EPISODE (LAST WEEK "TWIGGY FROM HELL"), WHILE ALISON HAS BEEN A DECENT DESIGNER. I TEND TO THINK THAT VINCENT MUST BE SOME SORT OF HIRED PLANT, BECAUSE HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN GONE LONG AGO. I JUST DO NOT BELIEVE IN HIS SKILL AT ALL, AND HAVE NO REASON TO.

I believe that the judges sometimes see what they want to see. And they are a lot harder on the females, especially the the ones that don't fit the "profile" of a glamorous designer... and by the way, JEFFREY'S outfit was the BEST one during this past week's task. THE BEST.
TheNewPersephone
i am SO angry with the judges this season.
i think they have been making horrible decisions.
first of all the cast in general is kind of dull compared to last season to begin with and i feel like they're relying a little to heavily on the producer's suggestions... *cough*vincent*cough*
vincent shoudl have been off the first episode he has zero style, zero fashion sense and he is just obnoxious.
did you see that one episode how he was disagreeing with the tresseme professional hair stylist and doing his obnoxious little disaproving head shake. i mean come on.
and i know they did make mistakes but i don't think alison or malan should have been voted off, i mean look at how many mistakes santino made and he ended up being one of the best.
the only character left i even like is jeffrey.
i think kayne and michael and robert are good designers, but i also think that alison and malan had a lot more potential.
and i even thought malan was creepy. but i think he was a good designer.
vincent has been in the bottom 3 every episode and is obviously just on because he causes drama. and for that i am very dissapointed with the judging.
also nwo its not as enjoyable because everyone on the show hates eachother and if they keep that going it is tru they will get press for it, but it will be the same press as the real world or laguna beach, not the positive press it got last season for the loveable characters and for just being a great show in general.
upsetfan
WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS SHOW?! It is no longer about fashion. It is about corporate network greed and what can we do to keep up the Drama. To have the judges keep Vincent (who's designs are always "what were you thinking?") and get rid of Alison, just shows the downfall of this show. I feel that the judges need to say that they are sorry. I have removed this show from my DVR.

I saw an article in the paper yesterday saying that Heidi is trying to use Elle MacPherson's "The Body" nickname. Sorry Heidi but compared to Elle, you look like a boy.

Not really Heidi's idea. Victoria's Secret is using Heidi to promote its new "The Body" bra line and is referring to Heidi as "The Body" in conjunction with that. Elle MacPherson's people are not happy, needless to say, and I'd hate to think the Heidi has gotten on the wrong side of Jesse "The Body" Ventura. (What a wrestling match that would be!)

I think he just means that it looks like the outfit "fits" the person who's wearing it--not that there is necessarily a particular body type. If the fit is good and it works for the woman in question, the designer got it right. If it doesn't fit or it looks ridiculous on her, the designer didn't get it right.

Alison didn't consider her model's body when she made her design--it was a bad style for her, given that she had a thicker waist (I'm not saying she was fat--she wasn't--just not skinny) and the color was awful on her. To me, she looked kind of surprised when Tim mentioned that her model ... ummm ... isn't as skinny as some of the other models. It was like she had gotten caught up in the challenge and forgot that someone was going to have to wear it. She didn't make a dress that could be easily adapted to fit and then she styled it in a silly way. As MK said, she took a beautiful girl and made her look bad.

Reminds me of another MK statement, this time on episode 306, the recycled materials challenge. When he was complimenting Michael on his dress, MK said "I could see a really pretty girl wearing that." What was Nazri, chopped liver?

HeeHee. I'm not even going to try to interpret that one!

It's also funny when you add in that most (all?) of the female judges on the panel said they would wear it. Guess they don't qualify as really pretty girls either!

I'd love to see a guest judge who is not only a well known designer, but someone with a "strong" or controversial point of view....................maybe Donatella Versace, Gautier, etc. someone that would see things completely different from the way the other judges do.
Speaking of the "other" judges:
Heidi=a fair shake for the designers I think(ie. I like shiny leaves/Santino, maybe you guys don't dust enough)
Kohrs=just the right amount of witty bitchiness, I don't always agree with him, but he usually says what we are thinking when something horrendous comes down the runway, that makes me smile.
NIna=very qualified, yet seems to be just a sheep following the herd, also when she does have a contrary opinion to the other judges, she lets herself get walked over, lastly, and worst, she can hold a grudge, or mishap against a designer through the whole show, and try to turn other judges her way..................Nina, I'm sorry, but "you" should be "out".

Oh, and I love the other poster's idea of Tim Gunn and Kohrs trading places for a show!!!!

Last thing, Heidi, for god's sake, stop and look in the mirror before walking on stage. I know you like to promote the designers by wearing thier outfits, but keep in mind you are there to critique fashion, and if you look like a "fashion don't" how can we take your opinion with the credit it deserves.

Rock on PR

Of all Heidi's catchphrases, the one that annoys me most is when she looks at an outfit and says, "It looks like it's for an old lady." We aren't all under 30—in fact, neither is Heidi—and we don't all want to dress like teenagers. I have to wonder just how old an "old lady" is by her standards.

Since when is it a terrible thing to design for us Baby Boomers? We don't want to be written off and relegated to looking frumpy just because we'd look ridiculous trying to dress like 20-somethings. I want a challenge geared to my age group. (BTW, I'll be 55 in the fall.)

bravo. i'll be 51 in the fall and i don't intend to ever look frumpy-ever. the real shame IMO is that these judges don't seem to remember that we baby boomers are the ones with the buying power to keep them in business--most 20-somethings aren't at that level yet. and when they do get there they won't be buying michael kors, that's for sure. his remark about stacy's "grandma panties" (or something like that) really pissed me off--I'M a 51-yr-old, 5'6", 107lb redheaded GRANDMOTHER who doesn't look a day over 40 (so i've been told) and i object to the very tasteless MK putting me in a class that makes it sound like im ready for the funeral parlor. neither do i want to look like my 19-year-old niece -tho i love her dearly- i don't want to dress like her. nina is right about not showing boring clothes, but MK's head is getting a little to big for the doorway. he needs to be auf'd next.
coachwife6
I agree. I think Heidi had the most say in this, but mostly because she didn't like how Alison designed or did not design with her model in mind. I never saw Heidi have so much say before.

Ok…now I’ve seen everything. Being from Iowa, it’s tradition(or instinct) to attend the Iowa State Fair every August. It is a true slice of Americana and if you’re from Iowa, that’s what you do. Walking through the crowd last Sunday, amongst all the people gnawing on turkey legs, corn dogs and cheese curds, there was this lady. I couldn’t figure out what was so different about her, until she got closer. Low and behold, she was wearing a t-shirt that read “Michael Kors”. Aaggghhhhh! At the Iowa State Fair? I almost fainted. I should have taken a picture ‘cause it just didn’t fit. Hope you are happy Michael. You have now supplanted yourself in the middle of America and put your name in the mix with American Eagle, Old Navy and Eddie Bauer.

This is one of my favorite shows on Bravo. As far as judges go, I liked them all and think they know what they are judging with the exception of Hedi.....I think they should can her and let Tim run the show.
marley:)
I totally agree with you. It seems like the challenges involving something instead of fabric always ends the same. The judges berrate the designers for poor fit. That should be last on the list. At least Allison's dress had some style and though the back did look a little funky, it looked better than Vincent's dress. I don't really have anything against Vincent (except the basket hat), but he deserved to go home.
gracehatter
Is there a guest judge tonight?
katieholiday
I have been wanting to say this for a long time! Miss America was ungracious and very snotty. Im really sorry she is representing our country.
nancydrew108
The judges drive me nuts. So uneven and unfair in the so called judging. Klum is making a fortune out of saying "out" as snotty and rude as possible. What was so spectacular about the old lady in the straight black suit and big orange bug eye glasses, yep that's fashion forward. Nina always looks like a cross between a hippy chick and a co ed, not age appropriate at all and please someone tell Klum what a slip is. Is this show about fashion or flashing her money maker as much as possible?
tslu
The judges are making it so I don't want to watch the show any more - Heidi with her comments like - your model looks like a Plus size, she looks so big. And this week at the judges' remarks to Robert about wanting to please his model too much and then telling Jeffrey about not trying to please his model and trying too much to doing his own thing, and then asking Angela how she thinks how she thinks what her mother looks like. They should start changing the judges - it was really good when Vera Wang was there - some fresh blood and when they have other judges there. Michael Kors is pretty neutral but ...... they need other judges. I don't think I can stand watching the rest of the season and it's almost over - and I don't think I'll watch another season. 3 seasons is enough, it's getting the same old, with Heidi and her comments of it looks expensive, or it looks cheap. Can't she think of anything else like taste or actual design.
bravoheart
Hating the judges. They are just so blatently anti-fat in their decisions. Last week's kicking off Alison mainly because of her slightly larger than normal model wasn't enough for them. Then this week, the only explanation for them not giving Uli the win was because her model was FAT. This week, the gap separating the best design, Uli's, from the 2nd best one, Michael's, was the widest of any week. The only explanation for Vince's win was his model's physique was closest to the model norm of 5'11" tall and size 2.

It was outrageous the bigoted judging decision given what the challenge was: desiging for the EVERY DAY WOMAN. Uli did by far the best job, and was the only designer among the top group who designed for an overweight everyday woman.

HERE HERRE! I agree completely. And also whats up with know your client verses listen to your client. So screwed up.
talentsearch
I also agree. Heidi and the judges (and the tv show) totally and completely missed the boat here! If you are truly designing for the everyday woman, then why was the best outfit chosen for the slimmer woman?! The show obviously didn't put their money where their mouths were and made very inconsistent statements to each of the designers. They must honestly believe that all of the viewers are complete and total idiots! This is my first season watching the show. It has soooo much potential, but I feel they will just as soon lose me as a viewer if they don't get more competent and CONSISTENT judges.
Lima_Bean
MIchael Kors and his mother were a riot! The looked exactly the same; she even has a deep, mannish voice. They were like Heckle and Jeckle. I'd love to see a parody of them on "Saturday Night Live."

the "old lady" is fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg, who became very famous in the 1970s for the jersey wrap dress. Since then, she has become a top American designer, and in 2005 received "Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) for her lifetime of consistent, creative influence over fashion." (I got that from her website). She serves on the board of several fashion entities, including Parsons School of Design.
The bug-eyed glasses, besides being one of her signature fashion items, are also big in the fashion mags this summer, I've noticed.

Nina must have something on the ball, fashion-wise, to be the editor of Elle magazine.

(This is my first post, but I wanted to let you know who DVF is. I loved her comments as well as Vera Wang's comments when she filled in for Michael Kors.)
tslu
Yes - I loved DVF's comments - of course she was a guest judge - I don't know about the other judges - they are very inconsistent - but Heidi - other than being a model herself - she has no fashion sense - maybe they should let her take a break once in a while and let someone fill in for her, hmmm that may be interesting - and maybe let Tim be a judge - how about that for an idea -
leila4spirit
Agreed. And wonder if Miss Heidi has realized that her breasts are down to her waist. Drives me crazy.

I have from time to time disagreed with the choices the judges have made, but overall I think MK and Nina are awesome judges. They really know their stuff, and also comment on the execution (which doesnt always come through on the silver screen), and have great taste. They are golden and also entertaining. MK and Nina constantly crack the best lines in the show (and faces....gotta love the MK face of disgust).
What I do agree with some of my fellow bloggers here is that Heidi has no clue what she is doing. She says mean things, unlike MK or Nina who can be harsh with the comments but never offensive. I do not know if it is a language barrier,a cultural barrier, or just modelness, but she needs to get a clue and take some politically correct classes. Besides, she rarely says anything about the fashion that is interesting. She should be removed from the judging and be the hostess only. I'm sure she knows about fashion, and maybe about design and execution, but it certainly doesn't come through in her comments and it seems like she is just the producers' mouthpiece. She is a bore.
And though Tim Gunn is not a judge, he's awesome. Gotta love Tim. He makes it work.
dyrtypete
I think MK is an embarassment to the gay community. He is so snotty. Nina is kind of blah and could give better feedback. I don't like the judges at all, but I would have to say Nina is the better than the others. The CK guy was almost unseen. Heidi is too fake for me. She seems to just do this to have something to do.
mskimberlyclark
Nina and Michael are bitter unhappy people. I'm a teacher, like Tim, and I know you can give tough feedback without humiliating and disheartening people. They seem to enjoy hurting people, that seems to be the theme of Runway3 re: Vincent and Jeffrey. I can't believe Michael and Nina liked Jeffrey's 1989 rock star look. Apparently they haven't been to the mall lately, I have two words for the - Hot Topic.

I think the JUDGES SUCK BIG TIME!!!!! If you look at the people's rating, the judge's pick the dress that the people vote the worst. I don't think they have a sense of fashion at all. About as much as my butt. Plus they're ugly. And what is up with host always spreading her legs, whenever she walks out and stops.

well, thank goodness it isn't the walmart shopping crowd here that's picking the FASHION WINNERS... jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez " the people's rating"... that's just scarey...you get 20 votes... use them....
Chestina
What were the judges thinking: they chose a tablecloth as couture? Ick.
Chestina
I agree with you on that. How can Heidi be considered fashion foward when the clothes she wears are horrible, what was she thinking with that white outfit and those boots? My Lord how awful.
Chestina
You go! I'm a fat everyday woman and I was ticked off at the judges.
wl60
I would like to see the panel alternate with each episode. Have Nina or Micheal and two other guest judges. Would like to see an infusion of new thoughts and opinions....just like Robert and Laura's outfits......getting boring...same ol' same ol'. Project Runway is going to have to come up with some more innovative challanges and better judging to keep my interest for another season. Would also like to see Heidi find a designer that can actually fit her breasts better. Many of her outfits are just plan unflattering in the chest.

Every time Angela walked out in one of her personal unique 'designs', Nina's face and eye rolls took the stage....priceless!! I'm going to miss them

One word....ratings....as unfortuneate as it is, some of the posters on PR's boards prove that the Romanisic desire to 'see blood' is still alive and well in 2006. There seems to be a true disinerest when discussing contestants or critiquing them in front of millions to remember they are humans too with feelings. Most of it all seems childish and disrespectful at a basic human level.

I'm with you in general principle..about being judgemental about other posters...but yeesh! the "judges suck bigtime" post looks like Beevis and Butthead wrote it. So in this case, I'm torn.

I think it's ironic that the hostess of a fashion design competition appears to have absolutely no taste in fashion herself. I wonder how the contestants feel about being judged by someone who's dressed like an extra from the set of Caligula.
divertaz
I would never say the judges "suck bigtime", but I am begining to question their taste. The last two selections they have made picking Jeffery appear to show that the pressure is getting to them. Maybe it's time we found younger judges who are more in touch with what sells. After all, I just saw a rack of Michael Kors' clothes at TJ Maxx.

I've watched Project R. from the beginning and have changed my opinion several times over that period about the judges. In the beginning, I'd be annoyed if I didn't agree with them or more to the point if they didn't agree with me. Then I moved along to they must be right, they're professionals. Finally and best, I believe, at least for me, I try to learn from them. I think that they are awesome, each bringing a slightly different point of view. I usually agree with Michael Kors, disagree frequently with Nina, and often with Heidi. Michael never just criticizes, he offers constructive thoughts and explains best of all what he really means. I also think he doesn't play favorites and realizes that everone has a bad day. His comment about Allison's final garment looking like a brioche was spot on, he didn't need to amplify. Even with a bad design, he gives credit as in He really can sew and put a garment together re: Kayne. I find the guest judges opinions all over the place, plus not knowing the whole back story, they are often dangerous to the designers. My favorite guest judge from Season 3 has been Diana Von Furstenberg. She sees beyond the obvious and offers sound advice. Please don't bring back Ivana Trump, I don't believe she added any value to the process. And, please I loved the idea of the Paris trip and challenge but Ms. Malandrino was not a good judge in my opinion, I think Jeffrey's bad boy look swayed her opinion in his favor when Uli really should have won. When I see an A-List celeb in a cotton couture gown, I'll eat my hat.

Eileen, great first post! Welcome.

Except for my feeling that Jeffrey deserved both his recent wins, I agree with most everything you say about the judges. Michael Kors, in particular, is a great judge in my opinion. While his comments may sometimes be catty in the deliberations, he is almost always respectful and constructive in his criticism to the designers. Even when telling someone that their design qualifies for a "what was she thinking?" award, he tries to explain his point in a helpful, educational manner. PR3 really suffered in its judging in the few issues where he was gone, and seems to be more back on track when he is part of the deliberations.

Nina brings less value to the process. But Elle magazine is one of the corporate sponsors, and part of the prize is a fashion spread in that magazine, so Nina is there to stay.

I guess I'm the only viewer that finds Nina's taste levels questionable. Anyone who thinks fashion can be innovative needs to get their head examined. Everything's been done over and over again. All fashion borrows or is an homage to previous periods. The same can be said of music. It is the same ingredients constantly reconsitituted. Freshness is elusive. Case in point, they agreed that Jeffrey's design was innovative and daring. Au contraire, like everything he does, it is a reject from the freshmen class of the Vivienne Westwood design school. Michael Kors should pobably take some of his own insightful design advice when approving his own collections. Case in point, his current collection of Women's shoes, whether licensed or not, is an abomination. Quite honestly, he plays it safe with most of his collections. I, for sure, would be interested in what he would pull off if he actually had to participate in a challenge himself. Bravo producers, are you listening? Now that would be another ratings grabber. Finally, I think the score in most of these challenges are based on the ratings potential of certain contestants, and not their design talents.
dogabone
The line between "stealing/copying" and "being inspired/influenced by" is very thin. My two favorite quotes on the subject:

On being asked whether he was angry that someone had "stolen" one of his songs, Woody Guthrie replied: "Oh, he just stole from me; I steal from everybody."

And of course, there's the writer's mantra: "If you steal from one author, it's plagiarism; if you steal from a bunch, it's research."

In other words, it's all in the interpretation!

Thank you for re-stating these FACTS not opinions. The level of ignorance in some of these posts is amazing. It's clear there are numerous posters on this board that have not study history or design.
