The Fab Five goes medieval on this straight guy. What did you think about this chivalric event?

Thought the idea of having an old fashioned proposal in these modern times was kinda neat.
Thom made Eric's house look like a real castle; Jai did a good job setting them up with an advisor to show them how to manage their finances. I didn't think Eric HAD a real job! lol
But when Carson put Eric in those pants....oh my GOD...even the other guys thought they were "too gay".
And I wouldn't mind having Ted's recipe for those little "Fair maiden" cakes! lol
Oh and just in case it happened to go unnoticed...Kyan made mention of a "kingdom". For me, that immediately brought to mind THIS:

I really enjoyed this episode, because I am a member of the same group. I was disappointed that they did not mention the name of the group on the show.
The Society for Creative Anachronism is a not-for-profit educational organization and I think it would have been a nice gesture if they had at least mentioned the name or even the website in case some other people are interested in Medieval re-enactment. Is that what the SCA stands for...? Because I don't think it mentions it in the article I found.

Not a bad one, IMO. An ordinary guy with an extraordinary hobby. And he's in the same line of work as I am. I liked our boys getting all playful with the helmets and swords out in the yard at the beginning, and the snarky stuff once they got inside the SG's home. What was up with a straight man having a product called Anal Ease? His Lady Fair must be very uh, accomodating. Then again, I just don't participate in that sort of thing. Although as Ky said, the SG looks nice and has good bone structure, I would've kept some length in his hair and a bit of stubble on his face just so the change wouldn't have been so drastic. (I would've cut a bit of the length, cleaned the hair, given him an updated style and simply trimmed the facial hair - and this is coming from someone who usually prefers the clean-cut look. But he seemed more comfortable before the shave and haircut, so the old look seemed more "him", IMO). Kyan really called it when he asked the SG after the cut if he felt Phantom Hair yet. I just got a shitty haircut even though I brought a picture of what I wanted and kept showing it to the stylist. She gave me way too many layers and made those layers too short, so it's all bushy on top. Ugh. Maybe if it was 1985 when Tina Turner wigs were popular... so since the craptastic hack job, I've been feeling the phantom hair myself. I just ordered some clip-in extensions; I hope they'll camoflage the bushiness. Back to the SG, that white [censored] on the side of his nose was really gnarly! I've had my share of skin problems, but I've never seen that.
Not only did Kyan make me drool as always, but this time he even made me laugh when he held up the toilet plunger early in the show and dubbed (Ted, was it?) "Sir Poopsalot". Ky's hair and clothes both during the makebetter and at the reveal were on the understated side, but I'm still dying to rub on him. Then, he had to get my naughty imagination running wild by having a Hip Tip involving honey on his skin!
I like that Carson picked out clothes by Keenan Dufty. That stuff's cool. The boys used to sometimes wear that brand in the early shows, IIRC. Either that, or it was that Fuse guy. But, Carson struck out with those loud pants that he got the SG. Come on, if 4 out of 5 queers - even someone as flamey as Jai - thinks it's too loud and that the SG would get beaten up at work for wearing it... Too bad the fiancee didn't like any of the clothes.

Yeah, what WAS Carson doin' with that stuff? lol
I loved the "Sir Poopsalot" line too...I think he said it to Jai. Later on, Jai talked about a "Sir Flames-a-lot"!
Yay, somebody else who caught that "honey" Hip Tip too! lol
And such VIVID observations!
And when Carson put those pants on Eric, they were all singing, "U-G-L-Y, you ain't got no alibi, they're ugly!" lol
Hey...you gotta teach me how to get those smilies in my posts like you have!

Hay all. I'm new to these boards, and this is my first post. Does anyone know where you can buy screened blazers like the one in this episode, or a place online that will custom make them? Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I don't remember them ever specifically mentioning names of groups the straight guys have been involved with. Although right off the top of my head, the only other group I actually recall is the nudist episode. Perhaps it's some sort of legal issue?
If you'd like, try posting the website here - I don't think that would be a problem, and if it is they'll just delete it. I'm always confused about what can/can't be posted, but other sites get through. I'd love to check it out, and I'm sure other people here would like to see it too.
How did you get involved in medieval reenactment? I've always been interested in that era. There are occasional Renaissance Fairs around here, although where I am I think Civil War reenactors are more prevalent.

Thom did do a good job - it wasn't TOO medieval, although those chairs sure did look uncomfortable without cushions. I'm wondering how much his girlfriend (whose name I can NOT remember, oh, what a surprise) liked it. She seemed a little underwhelmed. Maybe she liked the not-quite-so-grownup dragon art.
And we were like, "ummmmm .... maybe he doesn't have any money because he spends it all on medieval gear???" That stuff has to be pretty pricey.

Thom did a remarkable job....Eric may have gone a wee overboard on his passion. The mix master came through again!!! Love Thoms Tip....Kyan worked very hard in trying to improve Erics appearance. I know there was alot of mention about his smoking...I wonder if any of the FF have quit. I'll admit no cared for Carsons choice including the rest of the FF,I can see only Carson wearing those pants. Jai also worked with Eric in trying to get him to express himself better. And Teds Fair Maiden Cakes .....

To Raindog and anyone else interested. They did not mention the specific group inthe show, but I recognized the armor and fighting styles. The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is an international organization, and can be reached at SCA.org. It has existed for 40 years, started in Berkeley as a History graduation party. There are groups everywhere. I have been a member her in Texas since 1983. I hope you will enjoy getting involved. AmberLea

For the first time I was grossed out by the show!!! The extraction the Kyan did was bad but what were the producers thinking when they showed Eric scraping his tongue!!! EWWW!
Other than that another fun show. Do love the experiences I get vicariously with the FF. Las Vegas? Never been. A fraternity house? Never been. A nudist party? Never been.
I agree, the bride to be seemed underwhelmed right up to the moment he asked her to marry him--maybe shy? Although she wasn't at all shy with the PDA's throughout the show. And snaps for getting dressed up and agreeing to join the fun at the medieval banquet. She could have been all controlling and said not on your life!
What was the thing in the father/father-in-law's ear? More than a hearing aid but I've sure never seen a cell phone that looked like that!
I really like the way the guys are sharing duties this season. Also not as much blatant product placement on this episode as there has been recently.

Kyan did say Eric had great bone structure....
I think Carson and Thom both smoke...and maybe Jai. I don't think Ted does. I remember reading a while back that Kyan used to smoke but Greg got him to quit...?
And my favorite scene had to be them all chanting, "U-G-L-Y, them pants ain't got no alibi, they're UGLY..."

The phrase "Doctor, heal thyself" comes to mind. It's his job to save his clients or company money, but he can't manage his own finances. I'm careful with mine, but I keep my desk and files at work super-organized, but I can't seem to tame my own paper tiger at home. I probably need to buy the book by that name for help.
And Candozier, regarding the smilies - I don't quite remember, but I think that there used to be an emoticon guide on the page where we type our posts, but not anymore. So I have to do it from scratch instead of clicking on an icon. = ":" + ")", = ";" + ")", = ":" + "(", etc.
And Signladybc, I too had wondered what was on the ear of the fiancee's dad, but figured that it would be insensitive to point it out if he's hard of hearing, but since you work with deaf people and you've never seen such a contraption, I guess it's okay to mention it. Aren't hearing aids getting more and more discreet as time goes by? But it wouldn't be a hands-free phone on his ear the entire time, would it? Because that would seem kinda rude to keep it on all the time so people wouldn't be able to tell if it was okay to talk to him at that moment. Hmm.

I'd heard Carson quit smoking, and surely if Thom is training for triathlons he's quit.
The looks on their faces when Carson brought Eric out in those bizarre pants was hysterical. And Kyan saying, "So, Carson... are you subtle or are you loud???" They really were awful.

I REALLY wish they wouldn't show things like that - ICK!!!! Brushing your tongue when you brush your teeth works just as well. And is WAY less gross.

I wondered why she'd never been to one of the medieval events before - that seemed odd, when it was such a MAJOR part of his existence. Better get used to it!

What WAS that?? I also thought it was a cellphone, and couldn't believe he had that on during the filming. It seemed way too elaborate for a hearing aid, though. I hadn't seen a cellphone earpiece like that either, although they seem to be getting more and more scifi. A guy came in my office the other day wearing one that was flashing blue lights. I couldn't quit staring at his ear and focus on what he was saying to me.
Here's a hip tip, though - people who walk around talking on their hands-free phones look crazy. I don't care HOW cool you think you are, you look nuts!!! Dude, we can't tell that you're on the phone - to us, you're just yakking away to yourself!

I enjoyed this episode (of course, I could pretty much watch Thom staring into space for an entire hour and I'd be content). The only thing I have to add to the previous posts is regarding Tanee's reaction to the proposal that Eric had so beautifully prepared.
Note to self: If I should be so lucky as to ever again in my life hear "will you marry me?", I'm going to try not to reply, "yeh...yeh...yeh...wow!".
It was somewhat endearing since she did seem to be surprised, but I would have preferred that she had taken a moment and accepted with the same grace that Eric displayed. But then again, I'm old fashoned.....so old fashioned that I still say "old fashioned" instead of "old skool".

Tanee could have gotten into the spirit of things...guess we all react differently.....tomasulo you are never old fashion....maybe the words could be called manners.....especially when Eric had gone to the extent he did to propose.

designercat: I'm so glad you agree about Tanee's acceptance of Eric's proposal. Especially because Eric even followed "ye olde" tradition of asking Tanee's father for her hand. I guess we're going to have to cut her some slack here since she was flustered.....so, in the words of one of the kids from the Moon family Christmas episode: "Go with it, Soph".

I think that Tanee's reaction was one of the most honest I've seen. While in some of the proposals that have been on this show, you can tell that the woman figured it out before the words were spoken, I think that Tanee was thrown for a loop! Haven't you ever been so flustered that you couldn't be coherent? Especially since she had all those people around & the cameras on her. Heck, I probably would have passed out! LOL
