Ok so the Malan thing is of course sad, I'm sure though that Banana Republic will pick him up because he has a very sophisticated style with a flair that I can't put my finger on.
As for the Vincent lovers and Angela haters, what show were you guys watching? The only time I saw Angela and Vincent converse was when he was telling her that this was HIS design, HIS work, and basically HIS show. So for you guys who say she can't do anything, maybe doing background check to make sure that what she designs IS something the client would like, suggestion is draw while you talk and then show her what you came up with.
Again very sorry for Malan but his laugh creeped me out but he is very good and will go far.

Yes, he did have quite a creepy laugh and in the first episode I was certain he was evil. I do hope that someone picks him up.
Perhaps it was better that he went now before people started really stabbing each other in the back - he seems like he would be vulnerable to thinking that always happens. Well, it always happens on reality tv shows - maybe not always in real life, though...

I was very upset with the first episode. But I thought, hey I'll give the show another shot. Instead of giving the person that tried another chance they gave the person who didn't care. That doesn't make sense. To me it seems that they should have let the one who at least put a design in get another chance than let some annoying girl stay in.
This is the first time I've posted here. I'm not entirely sure I'm posting in the correct area. I was just VERY upset. It seems they never pick the person who I think should go, out of the ones they leave standing there.
I think that's it for me and watching the show. It's not worth it if every time I get up from the television I'm in a rage ranting about how these "supposed" fashion judges are morons.
I understand they don't see all the hoopla we see before hand. That's fine. I think they have poor taste and are horrible at judging.
I just had to say that. I feel much better now. Just wish I could find a way to contact the people who run the show and let them know they've lost a viewer.

Not since the wrongful ousting of Austin Scarlett have I been so disappointed in PR. Malan Breton had style and elegance and I like to see the contributions of designers like that. I feel like PR judges are choosing to keep people because of their high drama factor rather than the quality of their work. If you could bring him back, it might restore my faith in the integreity of the show, but for now I'm feeling like PR's following the same predictable plot of other reality shows which is to pick obnoxious personalities to stay and not necessarily the most talented. Oddly enough, when I went to work EVERYONE in the marketing department was saying they felt the same way. I hope this show doesn't lose it's way. Please PR make the show about the designs not cat fights and cowardly actions of designers like Angela, Wendy, etc.

Makes me wonder how she'll fare in future episodes on both talent and ethics fronts ... she's not all that memorable (but I think she may come from my state...city, even...)
Quote:
You are so right about the sophistication of his partner good point- i mean she really kind of threw him under the bus at the end. He seemed to be sort of mentoring her in the short clips we saw; she seemed to be glad to work with someone who knew construction so well and learn from them. Then when it came time to talk in front of the judges, she really didn't back him up at all. Of course she did tell him he would have to defend it etc; he was classy and honorable in doing that- i am very sad to see him go
Yes Vincent's issues I can look past and almost find kind of endearing in a woody allen sort of way. Angela lacked any sort of respect for Vincent from the get go; i mean he was her team leader ugh i can't say enough neg. things about her from this episode. Malan i wasn't sure of last week he was suspect to me, but like everyone else i fell in love with him this week ,and then to see that happen sigh - there was so much more from him I just know, and really his dress wasn't that bad- I've seen much worse- remember Guadelupe "sp" ?

I just listened to Tim's long Pod Cast.
He is right, it is very evident he does not like Vincent. Should make it very hard for him the rest of these challanges to deal with him.
Too bad he did not know about Angela/Allison before he went in that work room the first time.
For the life of me I can not imagine how 2 feet of a gown could be cut off before the model ever came out. What I really want to know is who cut it, Malan or Katherine. I would have sewn a band of fabric around the bottom so fast it would have made that room spin just so I did not have a raw hem on that gown.
So it is not an accessory but the accessory is to be the inspiration for the next challange and Tim thinks we can't guess it.
We have a week folks, start guessing. So far I have seen Ipod, Cell phone, and dog. What else could inspire a challange that is an accessory?

Actually no one questioned how to spell Empire. We were just amused Angela mis pronounced it as UMPIRE. I also pointed out the correct pronunciaton was PIER at the end.
Your theory about the Empire waist evolving from a Creole form of dress is interesting but it is actually based on far more ancient form from the Greeks. The height of the waist simply moved up during the Napoleonic period, thus the "Empire". Regency refers to an English period of a later time when King George's son Prince Regent ruled. The Empire style and Regency were based on Greeks because they felt ones mode of dress should reflect the revolutionary politics of the day. For dress this translated into the high waisted flowing gowns based on Grecian styles.
It has always been interesting how fashion and style have reflected the politics of the eras. Thought I am not clear now what people dressing their13 years old daughters as mini strippers with thongs and low rider jeans with lingerie tops says!
The Costume Institute at the Met has wonderful databases and their reference material on this style of dress is quite good if you are interested in Fashion History. :

I would love to see Malan get another opportunity to prove himself. Unlike Angela, he had a vision (though poorly executed) and he was completely invested in the challenge. You would think Angela would have been booted for the sole reason that she contributed NOTHING. She didnt sketch anything, she had no ideas to propose to the beauty queen... I think this is the second week the judges got it wrong. Last week, I thought Robert's dress was more innovative and unique than Keith's.
But i digress...I WISH there actually was something we could do to bring Malan back but unfortunately, the show's already been taped and its a done deal. right?

I was amazed how Angela just raked Vincent and his dress under the coals. Everything that came out of her mouth was negative. She was trying to convince everyone that Vince's dress was no good. I would never want her on my sales team.
If you are part of a team, you should support one another and the product on the line. At least I thought that was a good guideline to follow??
I'm glad Ms USA put her in her place to say it IS a good gown and ya-da, ya-da, ya-da!!!
These designers are missing out on a sales commercial of their time. I would think they would be wearing more items they made. Please Angela, your poodle skirt on acid is dead. Your pants with the lined diaper is not popular. What's with the belt around the left arm? Maybe Vincent can design her something nice.

Maybe that is why she did not give it much attention.
Any thoughts?
I agree and as much as I like Mullan and Laura, I didn't like the dress, although I appreciated their effort and work ethic. I don't like Laura's model, she has a dinky head, and looks short, and her hair is too mousy. The dress looked as Tim said in his blog, only something that looked pretty, there really wasn't much of it. It was like a wide opened's jump suit--did nothing for a woman's form, and just was plain and boring.

I just had to say that. I feel much better now. Just wish I could find a way to contact the people who run the show and let them know they've lost a viewer.
I was away in a hotel that didn't have Bravo (sacre bleu!) so I missed the show until tonight. I was very very sorry to see Malan out. At least he can't be the sabateur! His dress looked better on the web than the show. It was problematic. I think the fabric didn't have the right qualities to do what Malan wanted, hence looked heavy. His sketches were gorgeous. I actually really disliked Uli's gown though I see that since I wasn't the customer it hardly matters. I loved Kayne/Robert's dress. Irridescent but not overpowering. Robert must have edited Kayne the way Nick did on Santino (I liked their BR outfit but I'm not BR's client). I really liked Laura/Michael's collaboration. It enabled the woman to stand out. And given we're talking about a beauty queen, that should work.
I hope Malan gets to come back! It was sooooo sad as to how he took leaving. I understand they judged the garment here and these team things always disproportionally make the leaders vulnerable (it's better in a way to lose that part of the contest even if you cannot win) but Angela was beyond the pale useless. She didn't improve Vincent's work. I'm not sure they did anything but whine.

that's a great thing about taste-although it was not complete, nor perfect, the inspiration, the idea, the romance, was wonderful....so I must respectfully disagree with you. A crappy design? no, no, a thousand times,no...

I wish I could agree with you - but it was a crappy design. I really started to like Malan this episode, but it was a horrible dress.
I really wish Angela would have gone. She didn't do enough to totally screw up though, not yet - it's still so soon in the show that it's hard to say who will go to the final three...

So it is not an accessory but the accessory is to be the inspiration for the next challange and Tim thinks we can't guess it.
We have a week folks, start guessing. So far I have seen Ipod, Cell phone, and dog. What else could inspire a challange that is an accessory?
Heidi's preggers again; maybe they will do maternity clothes.

Zelesca, don't go! Stay, watch, then come here and vote with your keyboard. That'll do more good than going away.
