WHAT WAS THAT?!?!

These trainers are childish, the script is over contrived... I know it 's a cheesy reality show, but COME ON, FOLKS!!!

And the workouts look horrid.

One more chance... I'm watching this Tuesday, but it's 50/50 for me.

I can't believe this show. As a personal trainer who has been in the field for ~7years, I can't believe this show, what a slap in the face to all personal trainers who take their job seriously.

First, what are their certifications in--how to sell sex? The only one with a respectable certification is the owner. Congrats to her for all her accomplishments, but how about hiring trainers with some dignity, professionalism, and actual training skills. Just because you workout all the time or have a world record in bench press with your dad doesn't mean you know a thing about training real people.

The picture showing of the boyfriends penis would have been grounds for firing on the spot and the comment about calling a fellow co-worker a slut would have been a major concern as well. I don't really understand why the owner's personal life (her sexual orientation) has anything to do with what the show is supposed to be about, a gym.

As a trainer with one of the most recognizable and desired certifications (NSCA-CPT), managment training, and numerous other certifications and a Master's Degree, I can honestly say I am horrified that this show is on. The owner needs to pull her trainers behavior in and teach them how to be professional, but then on the other hand she should have hired professional people to begin with.

Again, what a slap in the face to all of personal trainers who have to fight against the stereotype that this show empowers of personal trainers, people who are basically self absorbed and stupid.

I appreciate Jackie's commitment to help her client loose weight thru proper nutrition and excersise vs. surgery. This is the second client she is trying to help in a natural and healthy fashion which is something in such an image conscious city as Los Angeles.

I enjoyed Jackie's boot camp for her trainers, although it seems the only trainers that went to this event were the one's being filmed in Bravo's show WORKOUT. If you visit Jackie's web site you'll see her gym has many more trainers than we see on the show.

I appreciate that this show is also including a look into some of their private lives, that helps it feel more personable. If the show were just about trainers training, well that would be a workout video you could purchase and watch on your televsion. What makes this a 'show' is the personal aspect.

Bravo is always "brave" about focusing on issues that other networks stay away from. So far WORKOUT is addressing gender issues; gay issues; religious issues (Jackie's mom is homophobic); power issues (Jackie/Brian); sexual harrasment issues (penis fotos on Rebecca's phone) and anti-quick fix issues such as cosmetic surgery for body issues....so you could say, self esteem issues.

All of this is worth is to me, and other audience members who can use this forum to get dialogue going in their towns, schools and circle of friends.

This show bewilders me. The hypersexualized tone, the "aren't we so forward looking" attitude of the producers who've elected to (perhaps even concocted) depict the intimate idiocies of this gay couple--I could go on and on, but here's my question. What's with the lawn jockey statue situated just inside Jackie's front door? Are we to believe that Jackie, who's coolness clearly derives from her "having endured so much as a business (and gay) woman, would choose to decorate her home with an object that reflects the rancid racism of years gone by? Is it possible that she doesn't know what it would feel like to a colored person (Mimi notwithstanding, cuz she may not be "reckonizin") to come in that door and see that statue? Is Bravo just trying to start some sh*t with viewers?
Who knows. Beats me.
Respectfully submitted,

I think it's the same way with "the gym" on Fit tv. There were several trainers at that gym, but only six or so got "picked" to be on the show. I would imagine some are camera shy.

I don't get the attacks of the show by so called personal trainers. It's a tv show...it's not a workout video, it's not a docudrama.....it's a tv show. It's not in anyway a threat to your profession....it's a tv show.

I think that Brian and the 'slut' are pathetic. I was so reminded of high school. I hope Brian gets to sleep with the 'slut' as a result, because that will be less time on camera for both of them. I would also like to say that Brian as head of the 'family' is ridiculous. So it would seem to him as he tries to intimidate the [expletive deleted]. Why is it breeders have to attack fags in groups? Are they scared?

Jackie-
dont know if you read this, but your "my gym, my rules" is fine... BUT being a woman who is self employed ...You can NOT be "friends" with your employees... they will lose respect for you & think they can "get away " with little things. The going out drinking with them at the Bootcamp was not professional... going out for dinner & a drink, ok- but not talking trash & having a college party.
Next time you want to bond or have some team building, take them to a spa, take them to dinner, just dont become "one of them" or they will feel they are on the same level as you are & you are not "the boss".
I have a friend who owns her own gym & she had that same problem as well--- went out for margaitas after work a lot w/ her traners & after a while a few of them rolled in late for early morning sessions w/ clients (me being one of them)... but they thought it was ok because they were such good "friends" with the studio owner. Clearly it wasn't.
Being "friends" with your employees also causes internal conflicts & jealousy among your employees as they see you playing favorites. I experienced this myself when I hired a new employee I just joked around with more than my office manager of several years...

You seem to know what you are doing when it comes to working out, I just hope you can pull it together with your people skills & keep your trainers.

As for the relationship- I'd get into some couples counseling before you decide to have a baby with Mimi. I have plenty of lesbian patients & friends who are in much more stable relationships than this, so for those of you who say "that's just what a gay relationship is about" I dont believe you.

Best of luck.
saucyhotbody
Hey all! As a couple people brought up earlier, this is TV! It's "For Entertainment Only"! You guys are WAY too serious about the boob tube.

I love this show! Tagline: 3% body fat, 97% drama! That's the point - DRAMA! It's fun and, of course, it's been edited! What would your life look like if you had a production team and advertisers to answer to? I'm sure 99% of it would be edited out and you might look a little crazy or too sexual or too this or that as well! Whatever. Sit back, have a protein shake and relax. Be glad it's not your drama.

On another note - the more shows about fitness, the better!! Though there is a lot of craziness on the show, there are a few slices of health and fitness - which this country needs more than ever on tv! It's nice for audiences to see that you have to WORK to get a great body, not just get sucked into the latest diet. On this show, they do preach: "improve quality of food (or eat less), exercise more" - it's as simple as that. No gimmicks. Do the work, see results. Even for me, seeing all those hot, sexy bodies has made me pump up my routine at the gym. You can't exactly enjoy snacks, beer or pizza quite as much when there are hot trainers all over your tv screen.

Relax, be healthy, happy and enjoy "Work Out"
jklaaren
I agree totally!!! I'm loving the show, and it seems very "Beverly Hills" and I'm learning a lot and getting very motivated to start my own workout program!
CCPowerhouse
This can't be real!!! This show is sad!:-( These people are not trainers they are bunch of BAD actors. Just put it this way - it is only a cheesy "SHOW" and nothing more.

Note to Jackie, your paramour needs to GROW UP, biting are you serious? Between her jealousy and biting she needs to take a class in "Being a Grown UP." You need to grab onto a mate that is not so self-centered and demanding, one who knows and understands that to get what you want you in life you have to work for it and at it. She seems to exhibit the typical attitude of some of the people her age, I want it and want it now and do not want to have to work for it.

I just caught the show today for the first time. I have to say that I really don't watch reality tv or tv for that matter but I am on a business trip and am bored in my hotel. What caught me was Jackie, I must say that I am plesantley surprised by how captivated i am by her.She is such a strong ,honest woman. her passion is contagious and i enjoy her persona and spirit. She is not afraid of being herself and handles herself very well considering that she is on "TV". I am a straight woman that respects her for being so honest with her audience, clientele, and staff. She inspires me by seeing how fearless she is to be herself. To all the Haters out there....$it's easy to talk S**t when it's about someone else who's shoes you are not in, talk to me when YOU have that kind of strengh and personality. Jackie, congratulations to you and your sucesss. One thing for Mimi...you are a lucky girl to have someone so strong, fun and loving. Your insecurities are keeping you fom FULLY enjoying what you have who you could be. Jackie looks like she truly cares and loves you and you need to support her. You both make a beautiful couple and have no need to be insecure in your relationship. As far as jackies mom goes...she obiously is old school so cut her some slack. sometimes what others believe may not be what you believe so just drop it and let it go. This will only hurt YOU in the end by being disapointed by the end result. There is so much more to life and so many blessing that you should be counting focus on the good and great things will happen.
Good luck .......
Nexus242
Okay so have we learned what's with the LOTR neckless EVERYONE seems to be wearing. Even the gay guy that came to diner had one on to??

swiss74
I totally agree with you, Mimi needs to shed her insecurities and I guess that is what I was trying to say. If Mimi cannot do this, Mimi will never be a support person for Jackie and Jackie will have to move on.

I've been reading some of the comments here and I think you all are on another planet, first of all it is a tv show, and I agree with another person who said it isn't attacking anyones so called professionalism, O also agree that Mimi is probably not the ONE for Jackie, and I am sure she will figure this all out before she has a baby with her, but on the other hand if she doesn't so what?? Is it up to any of us to tell her what she should do? Geez she's got her Mother for that. I in no way think that this is supposed to be depicting ALL GAY relationships, it's just depicting "A RELATIONSHIP" Hers and Mimi's, so I think your statement on that was slightly misplaced. All said and done I love the show, I think Jackie is kick-ass. It amazes me that so many Trainers out there seem to have a problem with this show, I have worked out in many different gyms, some are more casual than others. I thought the one trainer showing off her beaus penis was not necessarily proper, but oh so what, I don't thnk she should have shown it to who she did, but then again I think that's why she went to Jackie and said something, and also because that one trainer that has been with Jackie for so long would have ratted her out. I was out the other nite with some friends from work and we were at a winery having some vino of course, and man talkin, and one of the girls in our group showed us a pic of someones penis, someone we work with (I think they dated at one time) was I SHOCKED or embarassed, no I loved it, and by the way I am 60 yrs old, a very young 60, but none the less some things never change no matter how old you get to be. Loosen up people. I also think Jackie has just the right amount of being a BOSS and a PEER, there is a thin line there, but she does not impress me as the type of gal who will let anyone walk on her, in her business anyway.
NewportSteph
Saucyhotbody you're right on target with this is a show not a true life story...cracks me up that people think TV is the all mighty word and teller of true....Welcome to show bizz kids...Lighten up, enjoy the story and support Jackie...and yes, more fitness based programs are good for all Americans. Remeber we consume for fastfood than anyone other nation...
whammy
I appreciated your post. Lighten up...it's television and it's SOOOO edited. There's always that little switch on your TV that changes the channel or turns it off it you don't like it.

I love that we have a show about a gym. Seriously, looking at Jackie, I never want to eat pizza again! LOL

Loved your post.

Learn by trying!! Get these "trainers" in line. They are supposed to be pros. Go get them J.! Keep up the great work!
donnay2k
I just can't believe how aggressive the viewer's replies are to the show. The gym = what goes on there looks pretty basic and typically what one would experience in a gym. The trainers = haven't the viewers ever competed for a job before? man-viewers can be so critical. Mimi = I feel for her, it was hinted that she has felt second fiddle in life's arena to someone of Jack's caliber, but for criminey sake's give a girl a chance!
It is way too soon in the series to draw any conclusive opinions about "WORK OUT" so just relax and let life happen for once ok?
wannabehotmama
I totally agree donnay2k!!
MsOC1966
Cat- I have read several of your posts and agree with you. It is great to see an antidote to the plastic surgery craze going on..they have great bodies but they are healthy, fit bodies..I like that emphasis. And I LOVE Jacki..you can feel her emphathy and desire to help people.

I appreciate her vision and her dedication. I think I have my first girl crush!! My husband finds this hilarious since her abs are so much better than his. But it's more than that, you know?

Thanks to Bravo for having the nerve to showcase strong women like Jacki and Kathy G.
KIMMISMILE
All I know is that Jackie is hot! I mean I do not understand that she is with Mimi. I know that opposites attract. I wonder if Mimi knows how many people see her in a bad light? I wonder if she reads the boards. Once more I wonder if Jackie sees them as well and see what others write about her Mimi. To each her own but, my goodness. I have to wonder is Jackie somewhat insecure to have a person so-o jealous, mean, punchy, verbally abusive and smothering?
I like watching this, I only wish that Mimi could meet Jonathan from Blow Out series, He is as obnoxious as she is. I bet he would put her butt in gear.

he fellow jersey girl !! well they say pictures tell a thousand words i think when jackie watched the shows she saw how mimi really was . that should have shown her the light if it didn't well theres no hope for jackie.
skeelo
haha it probably reinforced what she first attracted her about Mimi, her animal instincts. I think the whole biting thing is being thrown out of proportion. Afterall, Jackie did smack Mimi on the head after a couple of bites. hahahaha
scrappinfairy
I really enjoy the show as well. It is obviously not all about working out. But even with the drama (that is what actually draws us back week after week) it still motivates me to do some crunches or push ups while I'm watching, or at least have a good workout after the show. I think it's fun!
myblueheaven
Does anyone know if the bootcamp workout that Jackie put her trainers though is avaliable anywhere? It looks like so much fun. I know she gets paid bucks for that kind of info, but if it happens to be on the web anywhere, I would like to give it a go. Love the show
KIMMISMILE
hey there do you believe that milena333 has been posting? so stay tuned for this episode tuesday
Lana3
Yeah, what is that about? If that really is her, then she just reinforced everything the show portrays her to be. Insecure and pampered. Editing can take things out of context, but not everything. A person with a strong sense of self, acts like a person with a strong sense of self. If Jackie was my partner, you wouldn't catch me cussing her out on the phone, while the cameras were rolling. Well, I wouldn't be cussing her out at all. I'd be cookin' her a nice dinner, and getting the bubble bath ready, lol.

What I really like about Jackie is how respectful she is. The scene in the episode where her mother came to dinner was intense. I was impressed by how diplomatic Jackie was. It takes a very strong person to be able to take a neutral position out of respect for your mother. I would give anything to have a partner who could do that. To be able to say, 'Look guys, this is my mother, and I don't think it's fair for us to gang up on her.' Then she had a conversation with her about it later, when it was appropriate and non-threatening. I applaude her for that. I feel just as strongly about gay issues as Mimi does, but the last thing I would ever do would be to make my "future mother-in-law" uncomfortable at a dinner party. Pushing her into a corner isn't the way to win her over.
KIMMISMILE
Hey there Lana,

While it sounds like you know how to treat a girl, remember, that the show has to have some drama or else it would be boring right?
Anyhow keep posting, i like reading your posts and telling it like it is
Lana3
Hey kimmi, I wanted to ask you a quick question, but I can't send a pm. Is that feature not allowed, or am I not seeing how to enable it?
nycitymom
Its great to hear from REAL trainers on this subject due to my inexpertise. i wondered if this is what the LA scene is really like with the childish behavior, drama, etc in what appears to be a thriving business. As for her girlfriend Mimi - what a psycho - SHE SHOULD RUN LIKE HELL
Lana3
I just found this conversation with Jackie and Andy Cohen, the VP of Production. I think it's interesting. You can read the rest by clicking on "Blogs."

"ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MAKES THE SHOW SO FASCINATING IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH MIMI. WHAT IS IT LIKE STEPPING OUT OF YOURSELF/RELATIONSHIP AND WATCHING HER JEALOUS TANTRUMS AND ALL THE REST?"

"Well, you know, this has been a roller coaster ride for me and it has allowed me to look at myself in the relationship. We didn't communicate well about how things would change in our lives having a camera in our face. It makes me angry sometimes watching the show -- I get angry at her because I see myself asking for support and her not wanting to give it. I forgive and move on and then watch the show and get pissed all over again -- and the same things happen to her."

"SHE BITES YOU A LOT! IS THIS A LESBIAN THING OR WHAT JACKIE???"

"No -- it's a South American thing! I get tons of emails from people saying they are dating a Latin person or Brazilian and that this is normal! I think that that culture is very physical in every way. They may express themselves better through their actions."

"IT'S KIND OF HOT..."

"For some people! A lot of response has been not positive. It's hot to a degree, but most of the emails I get say it's bizarre and unstable. People aren't embracing the biting! They think it's freakish. It's done with anger and I think people are responding to that."
KIMMISMILE
email me @ kimtrachtenberg@optonline.net

also i am watching the new episode as we speak and , I hate to be hating but geez that Mimi throwing Jackie's clothes all over the place. I can't breath.

I feel smothered!
KIMMISMILE
yeah!!! i think that Jackie is on her way to having a new love yes.

If it is not me well than that is ok. Thank goodness Mimi looks like she is on her way out! yes OUT!

Jackie looks soooo fun to be with but you know, even if she was at that new clients house, she was flirty and still kept it together right?

I mean she was a little liking training the new client. The last scene where she was stretching her Jackie had to go on top of her a little, man I do not know if I could control my heat, but what I find the most appealing and sexy about Jackie is her zest for the way she vies things.

Jackie got a little flirty but she still maintained her professionalism.

What makes a person sexy is how they are and if they think they are.

Hmmm. In life there will always be someone who is slimmer, younger, maybe prettier, more tan more money more everything and we can not be all things to all people.

We can only be. Be nice though it is important.

kimmismile
Lana3
Thank Kim! I just wanted to run something past you.

I'm speechless tonight. Well, not really, lol. But I'll save my comments for post 104.

ok well hope to hear from you soon.

I am a lover of the show and I really like the point brought up about the more fitness shows the better. I think if someone interested in fitness walks away with one new idea or has learned something about fitness then rah!! Otherwise it is a show is just a lot of fun. I like to watch it cause when I am wasting my hour or two in front of the boob toob this show motivates me to workout while watching. I ususally do my crunch routine or use free weights so I am not just being sedentary.
hiztoryk
Workouts arent supposed to be the focus. The childish actions of the trainer and silly drama with Jackie and Mimi are. Next time you watch it just let yourself go with it, then it might be more fun to watch. I think a lot of people are getting to hung up on the fitness/workout aspect. Its a reality show about the people who work at the gym. Fitness is second.

'trainerts' posted: "I don't really understand why the owner's personal life (her sexual orientation) has anything to do with what the show is supposed to be about, a gym."

The show is about Jackie, just as Blow Out (the show that takes place in a hair salon) is about owner/hairstylist, Jonathan.

Through the years I have been a lackluster member of a few gyms and have hired a personal trainer. I wouldn't find anything about a gym interesting if there wasn't a focus on those who make it run, make it special. It is the draw of those who operate and work within the gym that can be fascinating. I mean, what is a gym without owners, trainers and patrons? Jackie makes the show....like her or hate her. Her life, skills, personality, choices, staff, etc... are what make the show interesting.

I totally respect what your opinion that the trainers on Work Out do not accurately reflect those in your field. I've only had dealings with 2 certified trainers. In addition to learning about their training, athletic background and style I also learned a bit about their personal lives---as they did mine. It is a very personal relationship in addition to being a professional one. Of course their is a balance that must be maintained. I agree that some of the trainers in the show are incapable of maintaining that balance but I wonder how unrealistic, in total, the show is when it comes to the inner workings of a gym. Where you have people, you have drama. But I hear ya.You do not believe that the show accurately portrays professional trainers of your ilk. It would be impossible for ONE television show to portray every possible professional trainer. It is unfortunate that you feel that trainers are being portrayed in a bad light. Maybe you, or someone like you, will create a show that portrays trainers more familiar to you.

I am a big fan of the show--could you tell? I hope that more episodes are being taped as we speak.

"(Jackie's mom is homophobic);"

How very intolerant of you. Imagine that...a liberal JUDGING and being intolerant of others? Tsk .....tsk....can't you get kicked out of the club for that? Simply having an opinion other than yours equals a phobia. Interesting. I guess that makes you a momophobe? An opinionophobe?

See the corner you've backed yourself into? Now, you have no choice but to condemm EVERYthing that YOU disapprove of as a phobia of our own, or else you're a hypocrite. You demand tolerance for the gay lifestyle, yet YOU'VE demonstrated an enormous INtolerance for moms who disappove of the gay lifestyle. You're a hypocrite. A very intolerant, judgemental, close-minded hypocrite.

See the catch 22? You can't have it both ways. Once you've espoused "tolerance" you MUST be tolerant of people who oppose homosexuality, or you ARE what you claim to hate. Kind of stings, doesn't it?

I hate to say it but I have to say I pretty much agree with you. Homophobia is overused...and improperly used like so many other words. Difference of opinon should be respected

Jackie made a comment about changing Rebecca. Apparently Jackie disapproves of her being nothing more than a sex object. That's ironic. Jackie, who has made her choice has the audacity to judge another's choice in lifestyle and behavior. Hmmmm.....As a liberal apparently Jackie hasn't seen the hypocrisy there. I'll point it out: once you, as a liberal, have taken the "do not judge" point of view, you forfeit all judgements that you yourself might have....

Based on your posts, you certainly seem to have a problem with Jackie's sexual orientation or gays in general and that's your right. However, Jackie has every right to "judge" the behavior of her employees and to expect and demand that they comport themselves in a certain way at her place of business, regardless of her personal life. If they have a problem with her standards, they are free to find employment elsewhere- like another reality show since that seems to be where most of them came from anyway.

You can't say "don't judge ME", and then turn around and judge someone else. It's the liberal catch 22 that all "feminists" and liberals will find themselves in. Once you've rejected intolerance, you've BECOME intolernat. Of intolerance ITself.

Judgement is good. It's separates right from wrong. And unless you're going to tolerate EVERYthing, even Jeffrey Dahmer's choice to rape, kill and eat people, you have to accept intolerance, period. After all, there ARE things that simply should NOT be tolerated.

So, Jackie, your hypocricy was blatant. You don't want to be changed, yet you want to attempt to change Rebecca. Isn't that the hypocritical pot calling the tolerant kettle black?

No, Jackie's the boss. It's her gym. She wants Rebecca to behave appropriately. If she can't, she can leave. Like Jackie says, "My gym, my rules." I totally agree with her.
cogypsy
i think that alot of what people are saying is way off base. it is a tv show, and lets face it folks, in the gym, sex sells. why would you want to go to a gym that the trainers look like they have been eating too many bon bons, and watching shows like this one.
personally i love the show. i would like to see jackie address some injury cases since her gym classifies as a sports medicine gym. hey jackie, if you need a client, i need a back fixed lmao.
take it as it is folks, i think they all have it going on.
as an x athlete, this show is great and as a lesbian it is funnier than anything, for gosh we see alot of the immaturity of mimi in the lesbian world.
someone bit me and left a mark like that, talk about "cut off" would not be a week without sex, count on that lol.
hats off to the show and hope it sticks around for some time.

I loved the BOOt Camp Retreat. It looked so painful/ I loved Jackie's outfits and glasses.. But what is up with the "Crack is Whack" comment by Rebecca?!

I have to say that when I saw this episode, I had a difficult time choosing sides. I have a hard time taking the "biblical excuse" for rejecting homosexuality as "natural" because people seem to pick and choose the parts of the bible they want to follow (the first and most blatant time the homosexual taboo is mentioned in the bible is the same part that says you can't eat pork, eat dairy and meat together, have a tattoo, etc....). But Jackie's mom really seemed to be trying to understand and support her daughter in whatever way she could, and she was respectfully quiet about the fact that Jackie organized a dinner for her with several of her homosexual friends, including her girlfriend.

I thought Mimi picked the wrong time to pick a fight with Jackie's mom (should she have picked a fight in the first place?). If she had just been warm to her and held back on the attack, it's more likely Jackie's mom would have warmed up to her... her snarkiness probably just made things worse and affirmed the mom's negative vibes about the relationship (and homosexuality).

LOL. No, it's just a member of the Limbaugh/Coulter/Hannity/O'Reilly Talking Points Brigade. "Liberal intolerance", "special rights", "liberal hypocrisy", "unpatriotic", "godless", "homosexual agenda", "traitors", etc., etc., etc.

Who is this Brian character? Does he really think he is all that and a bag of chips? I cannot believe the way that guy struts around. I was wondering, is he a traumatic brain injury survivor, with all those stiches on his head? That would explain his inccessent whinning! He is obviously very insecure around Jessie. I find him almost to much to watch. Doug has the better body and personality of them all. I think Zen needs some prozack or lithium, she seems to be very troubled.

I still say I am hoping Brian gets fired at some point. I cannot imagine talking about taking clients and starting another gym and still having a job. He really seems to be stuck on stupid. If I were Jackie I would really be watching him closely. He seems to be a loose cannon. No telling when his fragile male ego may snap and cause her (Jackie) to lose everything. I wouldn't go to her gym because of Brian. I had enough of that stupidity in high school.
