OOOOOOOOOooooo!!! I LOVED IT!!!
Am I convinced that John S. will keep up the new look? Eh, not completely... That last moment on screen gave me a little hope after being so subtly resistant...
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
But this epi was JUST what I needed tonight! FOC-LMBO!!!
I CAN'T BELIEVE NO ONE STOPPED JAI FROM PUTTING THE HANDCUFFS ON!!! ROFL!!!
I can't believe Thom handcuffed him to a lamp!!!
I WANNA KNOW HOW HE GOT OUT OF THE CUFFS!!! LOL!
How sharp was it of Carson to outfit the ENTIRE CROWD FOR THE NIGHT!!!???
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
And TTB got to see Thom in the mirrored Hip Tip!!!! AAAAAAAaaaah!!!
The straight guy was incredibly good looking in his new threads - and THANK YOU Kyan for saying what I thought throughout the WHOLE episode: Dude, why are you in shorts? It's SNOWING!
Ok, I'll lay off the rainbow - but this was so much fun, I was laughing screaming even WITH a horrible migraine! (I just held my head REALLY tightly! LOL!)
I'm gonna be good to me and go to bed (giggling). And yes... I'll be verbose later in the week.
Just one question though...
GASP!!! WHAT EVER SHALL WE DO WITHOUT ANY of the Fab 5 next week?
That's right, *star86*, carsoning, essenkay and all other international fans... **WE** are seeing a full spisode of Queer Eye the UK version instead of our resplendent Gentlemen Five!!! (Serves us right for hogging them all this time, doesn't it???)
Oh well - (I saw a newbie posted before the show was even 1/2 way over - so good or bad, welcome to the forum hon!)
Peace and grace to you! I'm off to dream land!
(I think it'll be a "Guys and Dolls" theme! OOooo! The guys looked SO hot!! Carson can be Bat Masterson ANYTIME!)

What a fun episode!I feel bad for my neighbors though. I think everyone in my building heard me laughing hysterically when Jai got the handcuffs stuck on himself. "What were they doing under the pillow? I thought they were some sort of sex toy!"
After having missed last week's episode I was going through serious Thom withdrawl. This episode totally satisfied my thirst(at least temporarily. cause how can you ever get enough of that sexy man?) and I'm feeling much better. At first, I felt cheated because Thom's segment at the furniture store was very short but having him with Jai at the game place totally made up for it. And once again, his work was amazing. I totally love the beachy look. I had to say I was with John and wasn't so sure about the white chair when I saw it in the store. But when I saw how the master of design tied it into the whole room, I thought it looked fantastic.
The poker game looked fun but the dude seriously needs to lay off the beer a bit. No wonder he always loses. He seemed like a nice guy though. As the Fab 5 said, he's the ultimate straight guy. You're not gonna change him totally but hopefully they nudged him towards taking care of himself a bit more than he had in the past.
I'm not very happy about this whole QE UK show next week...There's only 1 Thom. Accept no substitutes!!!!!

As for John S., we'll talk about him later.
But our guys were FABULOUS in the reveal. It looked like a "Guys & Dolls" cast party in the loft, except for Kyan. If he wasn't a dead-ringer for the Great Gatsby then the Pope ain't Polish.

Jai and handcuffs? I..I...I'm speechless. The images that are forever burned into my brain are...OMG! I see frisking. I see a strip search. Lawdy, do they do this to me on purpose? And now I'm supposed to go to bed? Everything is such a blurr after that moment. And can you imagine the look on the person's face who Scout Prod. got to cut them off? Jai: Well, you see, we were at this straight guy's house and he had these handcuffs. No. Really. He's a straight guy. Honest.

First off, I'm SO happy to be able to watch again!! A week felt like a year!
LOVED:
Jai locked in the keyless handcuffs, then Thom locks him to the lamp
Carson trying to get the cuffs
off with the axe - can you say "AAAHH!!" So did Jai, lol
Thom swinging that axe (SWOOOOON!!) and cracking that table...TOTAL turn-on!!
Jai posing after he finished off the table with the axe - too cute!
Ted - "DUDE!"
Ok, uhm...something that stays in my mind - John started drinking kinda early, didn't he? Wasn't he supposed to try to stay sharp for the game so he could concentrate better?
There were other moments but I'm having problems remembering them after seeing Thom in the mirror hip tip
mirror hip tip
mirror hip tip
Wha...wh...whazzat...

I didn't record this one because I really wanted to hate it. I thought my post would go like this:
*cough*SHARKJUMP*cough*
But, I patiently watched the whole thing and it wasn't as bad as I'd anticipated. All of our boys' hair looked great tonight. Kyan's hair seemed a tiny bit darker and textured, yet soft, shiny and touchable. (Oooh, how badly I want to feel that hair!) As I've said before, I love Kyan in red, but probably a true red best of all. The tomato red that he had on looks best on moi, but he still looked SEXY! Thank you, Kyan, for not treating this guy with kid gloves! "You needed a good kick in the ass.""We tear you down, then pick you back up." Kyan had some good lines this time: "Poker? I don't even know her!" I loved when Ky picked Jai up. Somehow, I wasn't one bit grossed out when Kyan burped. Au contraire, it made me feel like I'm somehow intimate with him. Hey, Kyan, will you cut a fart next time, so that I can feel like I'm already married to you?
Carson (when Kyan was the Grooming Genie): "You have to rub something." Carson, you're a man after my own heart!
Did Thom put rocks in the cake plate? Thom loves using rocks on top of tables and ledges. Very Andy Dufresne.
I loved that Ted said "Dulishus!" twice.
The MB originally looked like so many guys his age who I've met. He and his wife had thick accents. His son could've used a haircut. His daughter could stand to get her brows redone. (Not hating - mine used to be that way, but it's fixable.) The MB sounded just a bit too laid-back when he went shopping with Thom and Carson, but Kyan got him to open up more. The guy cutting his hair had an odd 'do himself. Then, when he was with Jai and Ted, he was really in his element, so he was enthused. He looks so much younger without the gray beard. I was puzzled to see him running around earlier in the snow in shorts, and just then, Ky mentioned it! OMG! Ky and I share mental telepathy! We're soulmates!

This Show was a huge sucess. And the grooming, style, food and house were impressively transformed.
Where was Jai? Oh, he was the cutie being 'bet' in the promo. That promo was what convinced me this show would be a charmer. And it was. And John was.
Where was Jai? Well, he flew in the poker expert. And he arranged for the women to have a nice time away from the house.
So lighten up notevayas. It's only once a month. But is that the game, or the drinking?
Of course I don't know. Theres not much to tell by the family who clearly love him. But the wife was too thin! And all the 'unfinished' things around the house seemed to be a clue as well.
The whole poker night seemed to fall into what I hope is not a pattern for John. He went into it with the best of intentions. He promised the guys he would use the advantages they gave him, style & technique to win for them.
But then one beer follows another, and, if you notice in the reveal, the comments get a bit strained near the end- especially with Kyan.
It was clear to me that alcohol is Interfering with this SG's Life. And no, I am not crushed that he lost the poker game. But I know one thing. He is not going to be able to romance his wife properly with half a dozen beers in him.
So at least Jai gave the ladies dinner and a safe ride home.
As for the guys..
Jai getting locked in the cuffs was a riot! And he has a very sweet personality when he actually gets to say anything! And his expression when Carson made to axe the cuff off! And the expression in his voice when admiring Brandon. Who could resist that?
Thom worked a miracle in the house. Oh, all right, I didn't like the white canvass chair. And I wouldn't have covered the beautiful hardwood floor so much. But I loved the vinegar wash on the walls! And the diningroom chairs were perfect for the table. And the colors were modern but serene. John exclaimed, "My wife will never leave me now!" Am I reading too much into that statement? I doubt it. But I have to tease Thom for his "I can't do that. I don't perspire and I don't burp." at the reveal. As Ted would say, HOW GAY IS THAT?! But Thom was So right when he said "This place is like Butter". Only he pronounced butter as buttah.. Love that voice!
Ted knows his straight guys love sandwhiches. But at least he taught John that club sandwhiches are meant to be cut into quarters, not stuffed into your mouth whole! And the trip to the microbrewery was fun! "Dude!" And it's so cool that Ted is a runner!
Thank you Kyan for getting John the terrific hair cut. Now at least he doesn't look like a homeless man! I enjoyed how Kyan was more aggressive than usual with John. And I really feel that Kyan impressed him that being clean and well groomed was not 'Gay' but just being 'Clean' and confident.
I liked John's "7 year" answer to the mani/pedicure question though. And Kyan, was that you who said in the car, "Poke her?! I don't even Know her!" Tsk tsk tsk...
The best for last, Carson. From the minute he walked into the house and found the "smallest condom ever.." to the reveal when he was so pleased with himself for having belched, Carson carried this show with Comedy. And John was no slouch in the comedy department either. When they were both in bed.. I could imagine them both trading quips all morning. Good thing they were both sober.
Carson was funny with 'Kyan the bath Genie', "You have to rub something.." And.."Men are pigs, but I love pork."
And when he spilled cleanser with Bleach on his precious couture!
But of course nothing is better than Carson driving. And the passenger seat snark was hilarious! Yes, I am definately seeing "The John and Carson show". But John shouldn't wait for Celebrity to get help for the drinking.
He's probably a good guy who could be a great guy not just cleaned up on the outside, but on the inside as well..
So here's my first Impression. Don't hurt me too much.. I have to work today. notevayas

You know - it would have been great to include SOME kind of explaination - like John taking Jai to his old buddies at the precinct - both of them trying to explain why John had a GAY MAN getting handcuffed IN HIS BEDROOM!!! **De STILL screaming with laughter!!!** HOWEVER ...Just a little Hip Tip of my own... should you ever end up playfully handcuffed? Nearly all cuff keys are just a flat ended metal rod with at least one slightly flat side to turn the mechanism. ANYTHING that fits in the slot can open them in a pinch.

I was initially with Carson - but then when all the guys were checking out his feet, I thought that flip flops were a very clever idea!
And speaking of ideas - the "group outfitting" was presented in the Denali as Kyan's idea - so my apologies MGK and other fellow Kyanites! (Still wonder if Carson didn't come up with it back at Scout.)
(And... the youngest son was HOT... elder brother should consider mimicing dad and bro's hair cut - 'cause he's cute, but he COULD be smokin' - ya know? Sis was a cutie and Mom was GORGEOUS! - a great smile like Mrs. Sutton, you know? (...Mrs. Sica reminds me of a TV Commercial model I've seen... but can't remember where...) John was SERIOUSLY hot in suits and SO WERE HIS BUDDIES!! Whew! "Every girl's crazy for a sharp dressed man!!" ...I got the idea, maybe Jai helped Carson with the group fashion intervention...!
Oh... and Thom... no tie? (Should have worn that "black number" then, eh? TTB? Maybe EB will give me the link!)

This was a good episode. It definitely had a Soprano’s feel to it. And not only was John S. the USG, he was the UNYSG. At least with this epi, I didn’t feel like I was watching my life being played out on television like I did with Wayne last week. I still love ya, Wayne!
Kyan is so right. “This” just does not happen. Being handsome takes work. We women have known that for years and years. Is there any woman here who doesn’t feel a bit of wicked glee that now it’s the men’s turn?
Why oh why, didn’t someone stop Jai? Do you think maybe the camera operator was going to but one of the Davids yelled into his ear piece to let him do it? Poor Jai but great television. Now, I love Carson soooo much but if he came near me with an axe, I would so pull a Jai and run in the opposite direction. “I’ll live with it. I’ll live.” That's right, Jai, you'll live if you get away from the axe-welding Carson.
I wonder how Carson explained the bleach stains to Salvatore Ferragamo? Or maybe no one has to explain. “How did Comet get on here?” “Well, Carson was—“ “Stop. Carson was wearing this? Say no more. Say no more.”
And how adorable was Ted in the kitchen. First, some brief calisthenics and then a little soft shoe routine. You rock Ted!
Excuse my ignorance but when in the H*E* double-hockey-sticks in a fluffer nutter? {{shrug}}
Did you know that if you look up “genius” in Webster’s dictionary, they have a picture of the F5. And if they don’t, they should because I feel each of them hit the nail on the head with this SG.
Jai was perfect. You can’t change guy’s night but you can make it better. Ahh. Great of him to have Phil Gordon come in to offer a few tips (not that John was sober enough to pay attention!). Build up one aspect of a person’s life and the resulting confidence will spill over. And mucho kudos to Jai for thinking of the girls’ night out. That’s right Jai, we’re not gypsies.
Loved the clothes that Carson picked out. Casual but still sharp and snappy. And I j’dored Carson’s shoes. Those suede tan Ferragamo’s looked like buttah!
Thom selected great things for their house. I didn’t much like the curtains in the store and would have walked right past them but the genius that is Thom...well, you know.
Great haircut, Jason & Kyan. And thank you for not touching the salt ‘n pepper hair.
And I would never have thought to take this guy to a brewery but Ted saw the educational value in the trip. Of course, Ted did have to pull JS away from the beer.
Let me interject here with a commercial reference (hope I’m not treading on Note’s territory here). If I’m not mistaken, this is the first time that Benjamin Moore paints has advertised during QE. Considering how long Thom has been promoting their product on the show, I think its about darn time!
QE-UK? Okay, just this once but then I want my guys back! It would be cool if they had our F5 in their loft commenting on the other F5.
Back to the show.
Thom, Thom, Thom. I loved the casual but classy design you added to the house but you are just enabling this man’s drinking problem with those door handles!
Some people here complained about the way Wayne thanked the F5 last week. What do you say about the lack of one on this show? Hmmm. I know he’s the USG but come on! A little something would have been nice.
Kyan: Poker? I don’t even know her. LOL!
And during the reveal, the suits the guys wore were Fantastic. Again, Carson’s shoes were to die for. And how proud was Carson when he finally belched? FOC-LMFAO!
Now everyone sing, 99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beer, take one down, pass it around, 98 bottles of beer on the wall. And yes, that F******* song has been in my head all day.
Did anyone else notice during the shaving, the striking resemblence of John to Kyan. For a brief second, I could have sworn it was Kyan. So this is what Kyan will look like in about, oh, 40 years!
Carson: Men are pigs but I love pork! How does he come up with these?
Poor Jai. First Thom handcuffs him to the lamp and then Kyan tries to bet him. I feel your pain, Jai. I’m the youngest in my family too.
If hot guy who won the poker game doesn’t want to take the F5 up on that “special evening” I’ll do it!
Enough! I'm sure this is too long already. Some people, who will remain nameless, are having a verbose influence on me. BBB, you know who to blame

I have some other concerns as well and want to see the episode again. It seemed as if some of his facial expressions and body language did not jive with the words coming out of his mouth. Perhaps it's just my perception of them. In any event, I want to check them out again.

I'm sure somebody has answered this by now (can't tell with the delay) but a "fluffer-nutter" is a sandwich made with Marshmellow Fluff & peanut butter.
I really enjoyed this episode. I liked that it was a change from the "trying to impress the girl" shows that most of them are. I really liked John S. too. He had a really cool sense of humor & I loved it when he started getting snarky right back at the fellas, especially when he was teasing Carson about his driving. "We have this thing here where green means go." HEE!! However, I was glad to see Carson driving after Ted & John had all that beer!
Loved the whole Jai & the handcuff saga! And, could Thom have been more big-brother-like by cuffing the other end to the lamp? I was laughing so loud I thought my neighbors would tell me to shut up.
Kyan's product application lesson must have been edited out, but I loved the look on his face when JS didn't emusify. That shaving made my skin hurt! I kinda liked the beard (had a modern Bob Seger vibe), but he did look better once he shaved.
Anybody else think that Ted was a bit of a partier when he was in college? "DUDE!" I gotta get me one of those drawer handles!
Loved what Thom did with the rooms, but I'm not sure I would have completely covered the wood floors.
GREAT episode. Personally one of my favorites of the new season.

And I especially enjoyed Ted dancing for a moment in the kitchen.

I received the tape before I left work (I think Mail is getting faster everyday... or it was bc she sent it with some urgent papers that I needed).
And it was one of the funniest episodes I've ever seen. From Carson ("The smallest condom", the bleached cleanser... poor couture and the burping celebration) to Jay (His "S/M" relationship with the lamp) and Ted (The dance in the kitchen... I always do that)
About John: He sure looked like a bum, and they (Our dear F5) converted him into a hon.
OK, maybe he could look for some help about the "Too many" beers (Or is just that Straight guys drink that much?. I don't know... I'm gay and I can't drink any alcohol, anyway)
P.S: If someone teach me how to play poker... could I get Jai as a prize?

Jai in those handcuffs was hysterical! I wonder who at Scout Prod. had to take them off! LOL!

Does anyone know where Thom got that rug from? I looked in the notes for the episode but it didnt list rugs anywhere. I also checked a few stores they frequent and didnt see it there either.
It was like a green/beige/white striped rug.
Anyway, let me know

Hello everyone. I'm a newbie scuttling in to say how much I really loved this episode! The guys were great, as always, but I especially liked the fact that John was joking right along with them. He seemed like a really great guy, even if he always loses at poker.
I for one am actually really excited to see the UK episode next week. It'll be sad not to see our boys, but I'm curious to see how similar it is. Not to mention they'll have accents. *blush* Gotta love accents. I do hope our US boys are commenting on the show though, that would be so much fun!
Hey Meghz - does that stand for "megahertz" or is it your name and initials? Don't mean to ask to make you uncomfortable, was just wondering - took some electronics back in the day...forgot nearly all of it.
The UK version is going to be...uhm...the UK version. But you're right about accents, they are something else! Of course I prefer my Thom's rasp-ended sentences - *~sigh~*

You hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately, until he sees his drinking patterns as destructive and has a desire to change, the behavior will continue. I speak from my own experience as a recovering alcoholic.
That bothered me too -- I kept thinking, maybe it's not such a great idea to encourage his drinking. Especially when his son said he usually wins because his dad would get drunk. My father is an alcoholic (recovered as well, I'm happy to say) and although I drink, I'm really conscious about that fine line it's all too easy to cross over. SO I was a little worried that maybe John was more than just a social drinker.

I'm pretty curious about it too - and maybe we won't be completely deprived since on the commercial our friends seemed to be watching the UK version as well - maybe they'll provide a commentary?
And, yeah, the accents will REALLY help. Nothing like a good UK accent. I actually got hooked on Red Dwarf because I was so taken with Lister's Liverpool accent that I couldn't change the channel. The station it was on was doing a marathon and I think I watched three episodes before realizing it was also hysterical, Lister's lovely accent aside.

Ted readily admits to being a beer drinkin' fool while singing in his rock band back at Purdue! LOL! (Back in his "I didn't know I was gay" days.) I'll dig for the article if you wanna read it.
Can't believe I actually missed a QE article!!
Yes, I'd like to see it if it's not too much trouble to track it down.

De mused:
"I was honestly relieved that John was a "happy drunk." Is that wrong of me?"
*****
No! It is not wrong for you to feel relieved that this man's behavior does not become ugly when intoxicated. Those around him should have no fear for their own safety. Some people might even say that being a "happy drunk" makes him a "managable drunk."
Therein, however, lies a problem. If being a "happy drunk" is a passively "acceptable" behavior within society, then how can one expect an individual to seriously consider that he/she might have a problem with alcohol?
It is appropriate for family, employers, and friends to express their concern to the subject. Chances are he/she will react with denial. Hopefully however, it will plant a seed of doubt. At the least, it could be a reality check. The pink elephant in the middle of the living room that everyone has been afraid to talk about will finally be revealed.
Is this a solution? No, it is not. Only when one is willing to admit to a problem and honestly wish to change, can change occur.

SA--
I think you hit the nail on the head about John S.'s body language not jiving with his words. I can't put my finger on it, but there's so many factors going into doing a show and with all of the people, between camera guys and grips, and vans, trucks, etc., parked outside, and probable some set up stuff, it might have affected John's response--it must be quite disorienting, and as slow as taping can be, he probably put in some long days as well.
I'll be looking forward to your further insights...
Love and peace, Rjaye.

...And I hadn't thought about the English accents...
I'm so charmed by men with English accents. Thank Ghod Kyan doesn't have one, though, because if he did, I'd have been a goner by now.
Nonsense: I loved your opinion of this show.
CW: Thanks for the explanation of USG. I was afraid it was something as obvious as this, but abreviations and all that aren't my forte. BTW, fluffernutters don't sound too appealing to me. I like peanut butter, I like marshmallow cream, and I like bread, but I don't find marshmallow cream with bread to be appetizing. Maybe I could substitute cookies for the bread. Mmmm!
I noticed that this time, several people's posts came up before mine. Usually, mine is one of the first ones for the ep threads. It seems like this ep was more popular. This is a far cry from the Philly thread when I wondered if anyone bothered to watch or comment on it.

Oh, me too. At least he was very pleasant and appeared to be lots of fun. Which is probably why his son didn't seem too concerned about it - at least from what little we heard. And it may be that his drinking really isn't a problem. It just worried me that he was slurping down those beers like he did. And I love beer. Beer rules - but I hope he hasn't let it get out of hand.

By far the most boring Q.E. episode to date. Not only did they hardly do ANYTHING to change him, but it's obvious that he won't stick to anything that they taught him. What a snoozer.
