Also, I am curious if I am the only person that thinks "Waste Not, Want Not" is nothing more than a second version of the first episode where they recycled anything and everything they could take from their apartment. Same deal - just a different way to show you can recycle!

As far as the weight comments - the "judges" really need to look at the model - she certainly is not over weight and could by no stretch of the imagination be considered a plus size. If she was - so be it - but she isn't - so now we will see another person that thinks she has to binge and purge in order to work. Do people really think that women showing their chest bones, collar bones, knee bones, etc. is anymore healthy than being overweight? Thin is one thing - anorextic (sp)is another.

And I am kinda of wondering who the heck is making those clothes that Heidi is wearing? It would be fun if we could vote on her outfits. Actually I guess it wouldn't be too good to vote off the host of the show. : )

I agree that Waste Not, Want Not is very similar to Wall to Wall Fashion. But, if you read the producer's blog (the last one on the list), you'll get a glimpse into the decision making and rationale that went into it. Apparently, they felt the designers weren't innovative enough with that first challenge (hello! Bed sheets are fabric!!).

And, yeah, it would be great to judge Heidi's outfits. Maybe Blogging Project Runway could set that up for us. As for the potential to vote her off, judging from the last few posts, I think there is a high possibility of that right about now.

** This also brings to mind a thought: in Manhatten there are very few overweight people. They walk everywhere all the time! **

I've lived in Manhattan and I can't tell you just how wrong you are. They are there but they do tend to be a bit more fit because of all the walking. Then, on the other hand, I know people who actually know a host a taxi drivers by name because that's how they get around.

Does anyone agree with this? I watched the show last night two times in a row. I thought that Michael won because he used various pieces of material from the recycling warehouse and put together an outfit. He really showed good imagination by using items other that fabric. I really liked Jeffrey and Laura's dresses, but their use of materials did not have enough versatility. I think that is why Michael won. He shows that he thinks when he is designing. I feel the judges are looking for that in the designers. The term "one note" can apply to how well the designers make use of their resources, as well as how a design is constructed. On that note I think Michael has really shown the most versatility and was won the last two challenges because hands down - he is filling all the gaps. What do you guys/gals think?

As for Laura vs. the other bitches (eg. Kayne and Robert and Jeffry)...I say give them hell, girlfriend.

You have to admit, when Laura was talking to Kane she said- "sometimes I worry about your choices" she was not being personal but he attacked her personally "well I worry about your character". She smiled so I hope they were just kidding but Kayne and Robert have both been very catty. Maybe they have "mommy issues".

I could not agree with you more. I actually fell asleep during the 10pm airing but woke up around 1:40am & was happy that they were showing it again. So I really only got to see the runway show & the "auf". When Heidi said Alison was out I bolted up in bed and yelled NO WAY!! Are you kidding me?!!
For one, I cannot believe that they would vote someone off who has been consistently good throughout the season. She made one subpar outfit..compared to..VINCENT! Every time his stuff is garbage! Robert is not much better. And I cannot believe they voted to keep on that little whining chiuaua Kayne. UGH!! I cannot STAND him. He grates on my very last nerve. Everything he makes looks like a version of some beauty queen pagaent gown. Of course because that's all he knows and can design. I agree that what Keith did was wrong by having those pattern-making design books & rightly so, action needed to be taken. But I think Kayne felt threatened & was jealous because he doesn't have half the talent Keith has in his left pinky finger.

I was so overwhelmingly disappointed in the judges. They voted off a girl who had so much potential & was so versatile. I wish I could say I'll never watch the show again because their taste seems to be so far off & they're letting go of some truly, potentially talented people (Malan, Alison...) I wish I wasn't so hooked on this show because I really would strike it. I just hope they can redeem themselves in future episodes because I've been really letdown.
It's a shame that Vincent, Robert, Kayne, & Angela are still there. And please..I cannot stand another moment of Jeffrey & his unsubstantiated claims of greatness. It irritates me to no end with his hugely arrogant comments about other people's work & how he's so great & he should win, blah blah BLAH. Get over yourself!! There's a reason why you haven't won ANYTHING, Jeffrey!

Laura definitely needs to win one! I'm happy Michael won again but I think Laura has been overlooked quite a bit. Please Project Runway...prove to me that you have more taste than just in your mouth!

Shades of Tommy Hilfiger!

Same scenario as in that short-lived design-reality show - make something out of garbage.

Given the possibilities this season's crop fared pretty well - and some of it quite telegenic! Wonder if the criteria were the same - aside from "innovation" (which I would think would ALWAYS be the criteria) Target audience? Wearability? (Like, could ANYONE sit down in Vincent's dress?)

Wandering thought: Jeffrey actually seems sweet - is he the only candidate for villain this go around? His dress was fun - but who could wear those acid colors? All very well to applaud "inventiveness" - but what about real-world considerations? In high school we were all doing futuristic, sci-fi-cum-Quattrocentro things - took Parsons to bring us back to reality. "Student work" - is what Tim said in another reference.

For all the sniping at Laura's "simple plain dresses" haven't you noticed how well-proportioned and constructed they are? Pretty little dress coming - lots of whimsy going. What's the matter with you people?

Sad to lose Allison - but her creation/concept WAS a disaster. She's definitiely got a voice - bet she'll show up somewhere in the not too distant future.

Agree with the viewer who thought Angela's entry would have been perfect for Cher.

Been straining at re-runs of earlier shows to see who got the plaids matching. Anyone fill me in?

Til next Wednesday.

Thoughtful post. I think you've got a very good point here. The use of material was varied and innovative, and as MK said, innovation does not have to hit you in the face. It was elegant, some might call it understated, but it was immediately wearable and believable.

He also comes across as intellegent and well thought out. He defends his peice without being rude and appears to have it all planned before he even gets on the runway. Thats a sign of a true designer smart and secure.

I think you have a good point. The judges did seem to appreciate the fact that Michael really thinks about the design and the challenge. I wish they had noticed that in week 1 with the coffee filter dress. He really took the challenge literally and made a beautiful dress out of something no one would ever think to make a dress from. Keith took the easy way in my opinion and used sheets. His dress took no innovation at all. I did like Jeffery's dress also but I don't know why he always makes irregular hem lines?

I join with the rest of you in my total disgust with the show last night and Alison's premature dismissal and Vincent's continued presence despite never turning out anything that anyone would want to wear. She makes one mistake and she is out and he gets to be in the bottom three, actually, most of the time in the bottom two, and he is given chance after chance. If they really believe that Vincent has what it takes to be America's next top designer, than I must not get American fashion at all.

And Heidi calling Alison's model plus-sized? What was that about? What is our criteria for plus-sized these days? I was of the opinion that it was a person who was over a size 14, not size 0. Heidi's comments (and Tim Gunn's on his blog) were way out of line. Is it wrong that someone look like they have actually eaten something in the past month? Is anyone over a size 0 now considered fat and ugly and unworthy of nice clothes? Thank goodness the fashion world extends beyond the narrow view of beauty that these "judges" possess. And I am also glad that there are designers that continue to make beautiful clothing for the 60% or so of the American population that are over a size 10 and do not listen to self appointed icon's of American Fashion.

By the way, this might be the first time that I actually felt a little sorry for Jeffrey. I am so happy that Michael won and is finally getting the recognition he should have since the gorgeous coffee filter dress he made in the first episode, but I thought that Jeffrey's dress was just a little more interesting than Michael's. But Jeffrey's continued bad mouthing of his fellow contestants and his insistance that he is the only one that knows anything about everything quickly pushed the slight amount of sympathy that I had for him right out of me. I wish that he would just focus his energies into his own fashions and stop with the I am the only talent in the world attitude. Who knows? Maybe he might even win one.

Tim on his podcast called her a probaby a plus-sized model, that she was bigger than the other models. So, Heidi should be given some slack here. The model might actually be plus-sized in modeldom, even if in modeldom that isn't very big.

Hey, I'm petitte in model-dom and Tara was short in terms of Miss Universe. Well, guess what? I'm 5'4" and Tara is 5'6". I am AVERAGE height for a woman, so Tara is above average. That's model-dom.

Tim also said he woulda auf'd Vincent and other designers instead of just Laura got into it with Vincent. Apparently Jia went painfully slow on the runway and editing might have sped her up a bit. Vincent tried to say that was intentional and that's where he got vociferously called by, particularly by Laura over his "bs." But she was only the one we heard vocalizing what others felt.

Yes but then if she's a plus sized model why would her looking like a plus sized model be bad. Was Allison expected to make her a regular sized model out of thin air?

Just for argument's sake, I don't think Heidi was calling Alison's model fat or plus-size. I think what she meant was that Alison's dress made her look heavier than she actually is. She was surprised that a woman would design something for another woman that would do that. Personally, I don't think that the dress did that so much that it bears any mention but I guess Heidi & the judges did. Haven't read Tim's blog yet so I don't know what comments he made but I don't think Heidi meant anything mean towards the model about that.

The size of the model aside, and the fact that it was a one day challenge instead of a two day, like the previous challenges, if Allison made a crappy dress given the proper materials, I wouldn't care if she out. But making something from trash, no one should have been let go. If you want to have a challenge like that, then the winner should be given an immunity from elimination for a future challenge of their choice, but no one should have to go based on a challenge like that.
Also, no more trash challenges. No more design for a dog and make up a story about it crap. I rather see the designers run into the street, pick someone at random, design an outfit for that random person then this trash and dog challenge crap.

Yes, of course. I guess I'm just saying smetimes a 12 looks like a 12. Sometimes thats what I see in the mirror even though I work hard to look like a 10 or less. I'm just saying Hiedi's inference is that she made the model look bigger than she was not what she was...but then to find out she really is considered plus sized by someone we all respect (Tim) than I'm having trouble finding the fault in THAT part of what Allison did.

It has seemed to be in a kidding way so I hope that is the case. At least as far as Kayne and Robert. Jeffery on the other hand has been quite mean. It looks like next week he makes Angela cry.

I saw that. I don't like Angela but I don't like Jeffrey's fighting with Laura so I'm open a bit on this.
