I think it is interesting that one of things people criticize the judges the most for is doing their actual job. They are NOT supposed to be giving you points from the week before, or gee they love your cute personality or oh gosh that outfit from 3 challenges ago was great so we will cut you some slack now, etc. If they did ANY of these things it would be totally unfair and you would all be out for blood.

I also notice people here do not really LISTEN to the judges. I have been able to tell every time what was going or staying from their comments. For example they did comment on Vincents model not being able to walk properly. BUT if you paid attention they also commented on the fact that if the dress had actually been shorter it would have worked for them. And shorter would have shown a well cut sort of Jackson Pollack moving art kind of sheath. The dress was interesting they thought, they did get the moving art canvas thing and I saw what they were saying.

The criticisms of Alisons? It did not FLATTER her model-who she picked, had worked with and KNEW what size she was. It was unflattering, cut badly, added pounds to her look WHICH any designer will tell you that no MATTER what a dress looks like or what size you are if it adds pounds NO woman will buy or wear it. When is the last time you said well I picked that outfit because it made me look bigger. It was a completely legitimate comment from Heidi that she took a curvy size 8 kind of girl and made her look lumpy and bigger then she was and did not flatter her body in any way. And the hair, come on. It did NOTHING to help. It is a proper comment to say you took a helathy model size girl and made her look plus size. She did not say plus size is bad or gee when I am 9 months pregnant I can not look good. She was saying it you take skinny and somehow end up making it look bigger you have made a mistake.

If you are a 200 lb girl you should hope whoever designs clothes for you is giving as much thought as to making you look good as the one designing for 102 lb girl.

The Miss USA challenge. Everyone is yelling about hating Vincent. But if you listen to the judges they thought the back perfect, the cut etc. If they find elements that work it gives THAT particular outfit an edge over an outfit that they find nothing good in. The comment abut Kaynes. Yes, design did not work in terms of creativity. But he "knows" how to make a dress. The cut, tailoring was great.
There was not one thing in Alisons outfit that worked for the model or the judges. Victor's had a walking problems but other than that they got the creative part, the top etc. Using that criteria and no points for liking Alison personally she was gone.

While I agree with some of your points, I expect the judges to be consistent and in my opinion, in this episode, they were not consistent. What I took from Michael Kors' statement was, in general, Kayne knows how to make a dress (which I took to mean that cumalatively, Kayne had shown he could make a dress). If you and the judges think Vincent's dress would have been better shorter, then I think that points out an execution problem or a design flaw. If Alison's dress had cinched at the waist, it would have looked much better. I think Nina gave Kayne a pass after learning that he had changed his design from the waist down in the last bit of the challenge and was impressed. Kayne, like Alison, with Tim's guidance realized their problems and tried to adapt. Unfortunately time ran out for Alison. I do think her pleated bodice was beautiful and the sculptured skirt was conceptually innovative. The big bow was supposed to be a little bow, ask the stylist. I think she was intimidated by the judges and should have spoken up, however, I think she has learned from this experience and will not be so hesitant again about her designs.

Angela, don't you want to brush your hair? It's already brushed? Sorry.

Laura, do you need to get your riding crop to go with your boots & jodhpurs?

Robert, you forgot your pillow!

Vincent, did you remember to bring your medication?

Jeffrey, leave your weapons in your room!

Michael, get off Nazri right this instant!

Maybe due to editing, they do not show the puddle on the floor beneath him. Maybe that is why they have the big white light circle for them to stand in.

The producers made a huge mistake. Vincent has not produced a single garment worth mentioning - this being reflected in his reoccurring role in the bottom three.

Alison makes her debut in the bottom and gets the boot? For a dress that, while not flattering, at least took more creativity and craftsmanship than Vincent's kindergarten project.

I will not watch another episode.

I was extremely disappointed that they let go Alison. Its not her fault that she has a FAT model, I think her dress is creative according to the material she collected.

Iam sorry you have a FAT model that ruin everything.

*very gentle tone...whispering even*
The model wasn't fat....the dress gave her girth in places it should not have. I don't think she should have been eliminated, I think Vincent's outfit was much much much worse....but think about the difference between someone actually being larger (zaftig, rubenequse, full-figured) as opposed to the difference between being a size 4 as opposed to a size 0.
*heading back to the margins for now*

PR also lost another loyal viewer. I love the show, but kicking off Alison was so obscenely absurd, I literally, will not be watching the show anymore -- & will bad-mouth it from now on -- it's absolutely ridiculous -- so ridiculous, it pissed me off so bad that I actually am commenting on this damn board which I never do.

i was appauled that alison was kicked off, she was so amazing !!! ok i do have to admit that vincent's hats that he put on all of his designs were rather hilarious, but better thatn alison!!!!!! I THINK NOT
damselfly
Vincent has a certain resolve that not all the other designers have found yet. Do I like his work, and can I justify choosing him over Alison? No way. But P R seems to morph back and forth between an ivory tower of free radical artistic thought and a design studio for marketable wearability with some art thrown in. Maybe that's the line they want to walk?

I also liked Robert's Chanel-esqe dog walking outfit-for the five seconds we got to see it!. I know it has been mentioned but we are simply not getting enough runway viewing time. Seeing it on "Rate the Runway" as a photo still is not the same as seeing how the garment moves. Also, I thought his Jackie O outfit was cute. Minus the rope belt. It(the belt) wasn't horrible, but I couldn't visualize Jackie weraing it. Tim Gunn mentioned he liked the suit in his blog-it just was totally not Jackie, which I agree with. But, neither am I. I can't wear those lovely, strictly tailored suits. Beautiful, but not for me.

Or Walkin' the Plank harharhar

I guess I figure they're giving leeway for their designers to stand up for themselves and their own essential visions. Vincent fits a lot of bad artistic stereotypes, and it's weird that he was kept over Alison- with his Rohrschach (sp?) test of a dress. But he really did stand up for something a lot of other people couldn't have kept a straight face about.

Now there is an idea. A plank off the runway that the losing designer has to walk out on so they can get their auf. Oh that could lead to a challenge of designing for a “Priates IV” movie with Depp.

I noticed that, too! Also, have you noticed that Vincent resides in the bottom 3 but never, ever looks scared about possibly being auf'd? It's like he is thinking that the judges all know his work is superior and, wink, wink, he'll play along with this little drama because he knows they have to do it for the ratings. I think he really believes that they completely respect his work and will pass him on to the finals.

Woe is me on the day it finally hits him that the only thing that matters is what the judges think of the outfits he produces in this competition, and that they are not "acting" when they give him negative comments.

The most bizarre thought just popped into my head. You're absolutely right. He NEVER looks nervous when he's in the bottom 3 or even the bottom 2. Why not? Does he know (& not just in his own mind) that he will be safe & go forward to the next challenge? When the judges tell him they don't like the garment, why doesn't he start to get nervous? Isn't it like he already knows he's not out?

The only time I've seen him looking nervous at all was the first challenge, when he was being questioned about the "hat." Remember? He was quite deferential with the judges, even fibbing about how he'd been questioning the hat (when everyone knew that he felt strongly that it made the outfit). And what happened? He was passed through anyway. No wonder he thinks he's invincible. If they kept him on after that performance, why would he think they would boot him now?
swiss74

Now there is a sterling idea, a plank off so they can just fall off into oblivion. I would like to see what they would come up with.
damselfly
Imagine, if you will, a tube dress with shards of paper randomly stuck to it, on Alison's model. Would it work with her body type? What wouldn't work with Vincent's model's body type?

I never thought her model was fat. It was Heidi who put the words in everybody's mouths. Why is she so solicitous of the model's feelings instead of looking at the strengths of the design?
swiss74
I love pirate sleeves on a blouse. So nice and bulky and flaps around a lot. Tight cuffs, I am for that. Lots of pirate blouses and the rest of the outfit too.
damselfly
But not on Tim.

Hi damselfly:

I'm trying to figure out this board and postings...but...I do agree with you. Laura is a professional and I'm sure her priority is not to get too involved in a lot of the political stuff going on on the show. After all...I believe she has a few children and I'm sure she knows how to manage a day. However, I'm a bit curious about the criteria for the designers in this, the third season. Laura seems to have a lot more going for her in terms of sophistication...talent, verbal, presentation, etc...she seems to be on her own there...let's see what develops. She has a classic view for fashion. I'd be interested to see if she can make it work in a new venue with some of the more "hip" talent in the show.
swiss74
You know, I never thought of Alison's model as fat either or even really larger than the rest. Like you say, Heidi brought that to the table. If Alison had painted the dress black, Heidi would have thought she was thin.
squidney
When I was a child, we had those oh, I think they were called Colorforms. It was a picture of some scene with little slick plastic clothes you could dress the characters in. Very 2 dimensional, but fun still. Please tell me I am not the only one who remembers these! I am seeing big bucks in a PR Colorform. Or even better, a Tim Gunn paper doll set.

Oh I would want a Tim Gunn paper doll. One of my favorite quotes is from Nick Verreos Episode 4 blog - "And I know that Tim was none too happy when he received that phone call at midnight instructing him to get out from under those Egyptian cotton sheets, take off those silky pajamas and go kick Keith to the New York City curb."

Let’s pause on that visual of accessories a moment.

Ah, yes, Colorforms... mine were just basic shapes in various sizes and colors that you could stick on the board to make ... whatever... I just liked the pretty little plastic pieces. Kids, huh? Would the Tim Gunn Classic Fashion Icon Paper Couture Set ( and I name it that in true respect ) have ... similar suits with interchangeable ties? And is it recyclable?

Are we talking A Seinfeld puffy shirt(egads!)or a softer poet shirt? I loved those when they were popular a few years back. Of course, what do I know? I too bought a poncho following the Martha Stewart homecoming poncho craze. Not because of her but because I wore them as a child of the late 60's /early 70's due to Brady Bunch/Partridge Family overload.
