Wow everyone is out tonight. I know i can't get the travesty that is vincegate to dissapear but i was wondering if maybe we can get bravo to set up a chat room. just in case anyone has aim here we can talk live. rickteddyb is my screen name. In a little while it will be praddict.
PJMurph
never know whos going to be out next! i thought it would be Vincent last week...haa
anyone got any idea what the challenge will be next week?
gina2
I think it is to design something for and every day woman. guesses have been Oprah, Martha Stewart, and Meridith Viera. I don't think it will be any of those as they don't come to mind when I think of an every day average woman. One boarder mentioned that each designer was working on a different piece of clothing so maybe its for a line of clothing?
gina2
an* everyday woman correction
PJMurph
hmmm...everyday woman
I have a feeling that Jeff may find that annoying though..since his designs are so avant garde? hehe (sorry, not a Jeff fan!)
gina2
LOL me neither!! Althought I have to admit his dress from this week was really nice, if only he wasn't so rude!!
PJMurph
yup I was surprised..for a minute, I thought he might win this week's!
well..I'm wondering if it will be too much to think Michael might win again! hehehee
what do u think? maybe Laura since her designs are quite classic? high on wearability
mainer
cant remember when i fit into a size5......... way beyond that lol......... maybe when i was 10.........alison had produced many great outfits in fact i thought she should have won the doggie challenge not uli( with another same old same old) why hasnt any judge called her on the fact that she needs to show more styles not the same halter type dress.vincent needs to go not 1 outfit has been wearable. jeffery needs to crawl back into the hole he came out of or the pond(quack quack quack) michael barbie fired you for being boring. ken is not pleased. kayne stay away from trash not your material to work in( dang not anyones) really thought it was a bad idea all around....... laura love ya but please cover up your chest there is nothing there( im not a MM and i dont advertise) gooooooooo michael i got a feeling you will win( wishing on every first star.
to all yall in texas baking in the heat come to maine nice days cool nights...... but dont come in feb yall freeze your tush off......
cant say im not going to watch the show again i need something in my life to piss me off andd them keeping vincent and jeffery seems to work.

When I was a child, we had those oh, I think they were called Colorforms. It was a picture of some scene with little slick plastic clothes you could dress the characters in. Very 2 dimensional, but fun still. Please tell me I am not the only one who remembers these! I am seeing big bucks in a PR Colorform. Or even better, a Tim Gunn paper doll set.

Don't know your age, but when I was a little squirt in the "50s, the original Colorforms were strictly a bunch of geometric shapes (circles, squares, triangles, some linear strips) in a variety of sizes and bright colors. It was up to the child's imagination to translate those shapes into pictures.

Making words your own is not a problem. Language was here long before dictionaries... and definitions change. I don't think they would if we all used a "correct" definition. So, yeah, I don't always know what the heck I'm saying all the time either. Good perspective; Vincent is hopefully challenging himself and rising to this process. Life may have handed him his head once or twice and shown him how to use it. (Instructions aren't included) That kind of lesson can take you far. Hopefully, if he's putting himself out there, he can still take a few lumps; and it looks to me as though he puts himself waaaay out there.

I think this is one of the best posts I've read on here so far, not because I'm any kind of fashion expert, but just because it actually made me think about something. And that something is precisely what do we think the "wearability" of anything coming down any runway at fashion weeks anywhere would measure against the "coutre" value? I've been to a few shows here in Manhattan, but have seen many more on TV, and I'll tell you I think the percentages are pretty close. I understand that the emphasis on PR most of the time is on functionality and wearability, and the judges lean more toward the commercial end of fashion, but I'm sure this has to be the conundrum for the designers, to find the happiest of mediums between the absolutes when choosing what to send down the runway. Common sense to everyone here I'm sure; but I was just thinking about a particular outfit of Daniel V's from last season that looked beautiful and won the challenge, but I thought the model looked completely uncomfortable and awkward in; and that was his "orchid-blouse" . Not to delve into the past, and I loved DV, but whenever the model moved, the blouse did not move with her, and I felt like she was just trapped in some kind of weird pajama top. Just to illustrate how fine that fineline really is between the demands of wearability and the desire of the designer to make something not only marketable, but worthy of the label of art as they see it. As far as the past two winners, it was ultimately, I think, a matter of staying true to themselves while also exceeding themselves in their final collections. And although I have my faves, I can see a certain potential for that in almost each of the designers that are left.

And just one last note...to those who say this is a TV show and it's already done and stop being so into it or get a life and so on and so on... Yeah the show's over and done with...duh! But this isn't about that. To me we could be discussing one poem as opposed to another; we could be talking about painters we like; we could be debating or arguing the merits of various composers. What makes PR or Top Chef different from these other reality shows is that here you don't just have dumb jerks trying to be clever and f**k over one another; there are actual creative products that come out of these shows, and we can talk about them as if we were at a museum talking about which galleries we should go to first. This is NOT Survivor or some other such stupidity; and we can get passionate and opinionated about the clothes, because deep down we're not wallowing in the worst examples of human nature, we just want to see the best it has to offer!

Enjoyed your thoughtful analysis of the balance between couture and wearability. The PR judges rarely comment on whether the model looks uncomfortable in the outfit or whether she can move comfortably in it. Yet wearability is very much a requirement. Reminds me of comments I used to see from fans of Jil Sander's highly prized, completely handmade jackets. Clients were always quoted as saying they were incredibly comfortable and were so well-constructed that they would last for years.

And, you make an excellent point that this is not just some dumb elimination contest with challenges like who can run across five rolling logs without falling into the drink or who can swallow the most garden worms in sixty seconds. Fashion can be a true art form, and these are positive achievements that we comment on here. Additionally, what distinquishes this show is that we can all relate to clothes -- we all wear them, try to look nice in them, and appreciate the well-made, flattering, and fashionable ones. It is just so darn interesting to get a bird's eye view of what goes into creating them. It is especially interesting to see what makes superior fashion on a very high level.

Hey Y'all- my wife let me sit in under her screen name last night- I had a great time posting and reading - you are all some enjoyable people. I think I'd better pay better attention to the show... There seems to be more I might miss than I realized. Popsicles to TX.

I just took a look at the photo gallery for this challenge, and there is one shot with Laura sitting in the green room with her near-full-frontal nakedness prominently on display. Check it out if you have the stomach for it!

well.i think they should make the designers design a purse!!!! wont that be cool??

Hey, I like Laura... she's got chops. Is it possible to be on P R and What Not to Wear at the same time? She makes me conflicted. Everybody has the right to be/wear what they want. She "feels" very sophisticated and put together- but that neckline... it's like having a highly visible tattoo, or wearing big puffy hats and sunglasses all the time. Genius? overcompensation? Time will tell.

I agree with your assessment. I am in awe of the production of the garments in such a short time, under the constraints you mention. I take a long time to sew something really simple and I have often come up with a good "design" for the challenge maybe two weeks after they issue the challenge! They usually have 30 minutes, so I say "kudos" to all the designers, even Vincent.

I beg to differ...In TC there was some shady behavior behind the scenes. Many of them make reference to it in their private one-on-ones with the camera but never out and out accuse anyone...I think the reason PR doesn't have all that is because of the calibur of creativity one has to have to be on the show...Creatvity isn't just reflected in what you can produce with your hands it can also appear in one's "mental game" as well...

Just catching up. Caught the tail end of this competition yesterday and my thoughts are this:

1. They really need to get rid of Angela. It seems she's infectious! Not only did Heidi wear a poufed skirt atrocity, now Alison designed one? Although she was rightfully booted out, Kayne and Robert looked like they are toying with the idea and it may soon develop into a full-blown case of designing poufy rosette-laden skirts.

2. Thought Jeffrey was robbed. have not liked anything he's done so far (at least nothing he designed was my favorite), but he was clearly the winner in this particular design-off.

3. Angela again pulls another poufy number out of her closet to wear on the runway. A white, anemic looking number with big healthy clots of rosettes dotting it everywhere in no random order making it look like an old Patti LaBelle Lady Marmalade reject. What is with her? And what is with Project Runway for keeping her there? I believe Tim Gunn talked about "integrity" last time. Where is the integrity behind keeping a untalented psychopath around for ratings and to add a touch of chaos for better drama?

4. Laura and Angela wear the same silhouettes they design. Laura's dress was a cloned copy of what she was actually wearing. Is this creativity? I mean, if you've already designed and sewn it, does it take any big effort to churn out another one? It leaves time to put a clever saying on the behind for a touch of whimsy while other designers are trying to figure out drape and proportion. Don't know about this. Yes, Laura's outfits are perfectly sewn, but that's because she's had practice doing it over and over and over again.

Have mixed feelings about this.

5. Was glad to see Alison go. Most especially because she actually copied Angela. Never thought I would see that happen. I mean, why?

Alison has never designed anything I liked, but I noticed some designers liked what she did. Like in the doggie accessory challenge. But then again, Vera (before she got her contacts in) said Angela's crap was well-executed so there you go. Makes me think if these designers have that crappy of taste that the story of them never actually designing anything is true. These well-known designers are just figureheads who hire talented people to do the work for them. They are financial geniuses and marketing geniuses, but not creative geniuses. Too many talented people around to hire and Angela ain't one of them.

6. Michael again made a strong showing. He and Laura have definitely been the most consistent, but I have problems with Laura for the reason listed above. He really is emerging as a favorite of mine.

7. Had to laugh when Heidi was criticizing Alison for making her model look fat. Did Heid look in the mirror when she put on that black poufy thing with the white belt?

Check the tapes, Heidi! Why did YOU do that? As yourself that question and you'll see why Alison did it.
stuckinreality
Wouldn't it be great if they did design something other than an outfit for someone size 3 or smaller? After Heidi's comment concerning Allison's outfit and a plus size model...hey PR folks, why not have your designers design something for the plus size woman? There are lots of us out here, and if it's 'wearability' you're looking for, then give us soemthing that we would wear! Designing a purse would be great too, although I hesitate to see what Vincent might design! His 'creativity' is a little bit out there don't ya think? Anyway, design something that the general, all size, woman might wear...one who has a '9-5' job (do those exist?), and not something that I would want for a dinner party and only wear once! Just a thought!

"Knock knock."
Door opens, bedraggled designer: "Umph?"
Tim: Designers, it's 3:00 am. Time to get up for our next challenge. You have fifteen minutes.....
........Cut to Tim Gunn in the hallway as designers file out tiredly.
Tim: Designers, today's challenge will be . . . Vincent! This show is all about integrity! Go put on your pants!.
Vincent, with camera following his every move, looks down, realizes he forgot to finish dressing, shrugs his shoulders and turns to re-enter the apartment.
The men all look distinctly ill. Angela's eyes go wide and her mouth forms an "O." Uli screams and faints dead away.
Laura: EEEEEWWW.
Cut to clip of Laura facing the camera: "Vincent, what an a--hole."
Cut to clip of Jeffrey: "Mine is the most well-made of all. I'm sure to win. Nobody else's rises to the level..." Tim Gunn's navy blazer-clad arm reaches into camera view, claps onto Jeffrey's shoulder, and yanks him off-camera.

OMG.....the only thing that saved my computer monitor was the fact that my coffee was still brewing! Oh oh oh oh!!!!
FF1....I think I have to say, this is the best laugh I've had online in a LONG time! When are you gonna take this show on the road...can I buy tickets, when is your first book coming out and where is the line for the book signing!
Good golly Miss Molly.....you are one warped and wonderful person (and this is from someone who plays Dr. Demento on the MP3 in the car and sings along.....with all the windows down and my teenager cringing!)

BRAVO'S (the good kind, not the y'know kind) and a STANDING OVATION!

Floss

Hey Floss!

I just returned from two weeks in NH and ME.. but I am all caught up on re-runs.. and podcasts. My favorites are Michael, Laura and Uli. The only designers I regret not seeing more work from are Malan and Keith.
Michael seems more versitile than Laura or Uli, but I don't see a "style" from him yet that marks his work as unique. He does the "body hugging" thing like Kara Saun, but his clothes so far are not "costumey" the way hers often were. I guess if I were thinking of a theme for under his name on a label, I would write.. Michael Knight, for a feminine fit, or "he knows his way around a woman's curves" or something like that.
Nina Garcia would look wonderful next season dressed in Uli's fashions. She could pull off the strong prints and colors and she could use a bit of fun without looking like a child, like Heidi. Poor Heidi is a fashion disaster this season! Good thing she is so beautiful it doesn't matter much what she wears as long as it doesn't cover her face!
I wrote a long post on how great I think Laura is already, so I won't bore by repeating.

So great to hear from a season 2 poster who has retained her same moniker! lisakaz was posting before I went on vacation, but maybe she is busy now? there are more posters here from a board I never posted on..Top Chef. Check out this great piece of writing from Food Fan One.

"Knock knock."
Door opens, bedraggled designer: "Umph?"
Tim: Designers, it's 3:00 am. Time to get up for our next challenge. You have fifteen minutes.
Bedraggled designer blinks bloodshot eyes: "Umph, umph."
Door closes.

Angela, sleepily: "Laura, are you awake?"
Laura: "Umph."
Angela: "Laura?"
Laura: "Umph. I'm trying to wake up enough to push the button on the coffee maker."
Laura flips blanket off with resolve, staggers to sink. Groggily pushes a button. Garbage disposal starts, and spoons, cups and dishes crunch loudly as the entire sink full of dishes slowly disappears down the disposal.
Laura, looking half asleep: "Umph."
Walks away.

Angela, coming out of shower, sees PR camera and angrily slaps a rosette on the lens to block it. Camera man removes it.
Uli, looking impossibly awake, speaks directly into the camera: "I saw the dishes going down the drain and wanted to say someting, but it's Laura's coffee and she seemed so determined to push that button."

In the other room, men begin to get up.
Robert: "Kayne, are you awake?"
Kayne's voice from under the covers: "Umph, umph."
Michael kicks out of his quilt, stands up. "Ok, we've only got a few minutes here."
Robert, in blue sleeveless t-shirt: "C'mon, Kayne."
Voice from large lump under quilt: "Umph."
Foot kicks out as figure under blanket starts to stretch.

Jeffrey, Michael, Robert and Vincent sit at table, dig into their corn flakes. Kayne staggers over to the table, sits down, picks up the coffee pot, and pours coffee on his corn flakes. The others hold their breath as Kayne raises a spoonful to his mouth to eat it. Kayne's eyes suddenly pop open and he grimaces with disgust as he spits out the cereal. The others all laugh hysterically.

Cut to Tim Gunn in the hallway as designers file out tiredly.

Hi there....I'm usually hidden in the margins, tending to ghost more than post (though lately been posting more LOL) but this got me thinking. You've nailed it, to me, with this. I got hooked on the shows (PR and TC) last year; of all things, I was channel surfing and happened to land on Bravo right at the Zulema walk off. It intrigued me enough to start watching. During TC, I found the boards, and you're right. It's the added element of the creativity that keeps these two shows tugging at me.....and the mostly enjoyable and sometimes hysterical dialogue that keeps me coming back to the message boards.

Very well put....and welcome!

In the 'extra' videos, in one of Michael Rucker blog/cams he makes a comment that the sponser for episode 6 had withdrawn. So did he mean the sponser for the commercials or for who was hosting the challenge, ie the NJ recycling plant? Anyone know?

I just stuck my head out the door, yikes, it is like walking into an oven out there. I kissed my air conditioner's compressor and turned around and came back in. My neighbor's two air conditioners went out this morning and the guy is there fixing them. Their family is in my living room. The husband is holding his head in his hands saying something to the effect about it is a Sunday I am paying thru the nose. I said look at the bright side it is not a holiday. I know this is off topic but just reading my news blurbs and almost fell off my chair. Can you believe this?

ABOARD THAI AIRWAYS TO LOS ANGELES - John Mark Karr, the suspect in the death of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey, sipped champagne and ate fried king prawns in business class Sunday after being put aboard a flight to Los Angeles to face charges in the United States.

As Karr wined and dined in style and chatted with the three U.S. officials escorting him, another bombshell emerged: Reports that Karr sought treatment at a Thai sex-change clinic.

His Thai Airways International flight took off about 8 p.m. (9 a.m. EDT) for the 15-hour flight to Los Angeles. Karr's journey will eventually end in Boulder, Colo., where he is expected to face charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and child sexual assault in connection with the young beauty queen's 1996 killing.

And there was more I just did not copy and paste.

That's gross...We have soldiers laying down their lives on a daily basis and we can't even afford to give them the right stuff to be physically safe but a potential murderer and sex offender gets champagne and shrimp on a business class airplane...our world is so screwy

Well, it was a killer for Kerason(sp) In her final show she did a dress that the model, who MK claimed to be one of the best runway walkers out there, a dress she couldn't walk. I'm still greatly bothered by the fact that when he was fitting the dress there was no black under-top thing but when she walked it was there...in my opinion, all that combined means its not wearable...if it's not wearable, it's not clothing ...if its not clothing how can it be acceptable on a show about designing clothing...not art, vincent...clothing.

LOL exactly!! its'a fashion design show not an ART show lol (and that was pretty crappy art if u ask me lol)
swiss74
Exactly. Looked like one of those "artwork" that people used to throw the paint at an empty piece of canvas and sold it to fools that thought it was outstanding. Remember the chimp that did that and the guy sold if for art?
gina2
I guess that makes vincent a baboon? rofl!!
gina2
I said baboon cos I like chimps and don't want to put them down lol
swiss74
I hear ya, I like them too.
MadatPR
I'm sorry to be repetative, but I was soooo disappointed in watching PR when Alison was kicked off I was mad for an hour after the show. I am a first time poster as well. I created an account just to be able to B**** about this, WTF are they thinking? Voting off Alison vs. Vincent? The show is on re-run constantly and I love watching Bravo, but have avoided the channel since. Everyone makes bad decisions, but the judges are there to represent the industry and I think they did it an injustice as a group. Tim has said PR is nothing w/o it's integrity... well they screwed that one up. On a side note - the voice overs are really getting old.

Burgers are ready. Pass the veggies and dip please.

I rewatched the episode too and still cant believe Vincent stayed. Yes, I think Alison would have gone before the final 3 but still, we now have to watch at least 1 more week of Vincent, ew.

*passes the veggies and dip to brillke* I am just so afraid they will keep will Vincent on longer!! =oP About jeffrey making angela cry in next weeks episode, didn't someone make kara cry in season 2? I forget her name but it was the black girl, the one that got booted the episode after that. I am so bad with names. =o(
