the only reason I mentioned that is because in an earlier post someone mentioned that they thought Jeffrey would be the next to go because of it.

I rewatched the episode too and still cant believe Vincent stayed. Yes, I think Alison would have gone before the final 3 but still, we now have to watch at least 1 more week of Vincent, ew.

I have watched the episode a k-zillion times and can not explain that either. My only theory is, and it is lame, that Alison should have gotten hostile like Vincent did and talked back to the judges. I particularly thought Heidi was outlandish in her remarks at the end. I can not explain Kors' and Garcia's remarks either. I agree it was not inspired but it was as original as Vincent's garment, and the model could walk in the design. My only other explanation that can be supported by comments made in prior episodes is, they all knew him from ten or so years ago. A walking work of art, HARDLY, as Vincent put it. Another possible explanation is that he has done strange garments before and that was in line with what he has done, while Alison has produced nice solid designs and it was not on her usual par. Who the heck knows.

It was Zulema who made Kara cry. Never was a Zulema or Kara fan but wanted Kara to go all ninja on Zulema after that.

"Cut to Tim Gunn knocking on Michael’s door at 5 a.m. I can't believe they're going to show this booty call on camera. Michael looks confused and maybe scared, like, Oh, [censored], now I’m kicked off for some rule violation. I don't have any books. "

Is that too freakin funny? For all you new members, you must check out the column by Dave White. It is so funny.

You know, when I was watching it today (again) I looked at Alisons dress more carefully. I thought the only thing wrong with it was the thing that stuck up from her shoulder and the hair. For the size of the model I thought it looked great and there was absolutely no reason for Alison to be booted. it showed the model waist and I thought it was really cute. =o) Plus she could walk in it!! lol
gina2
LOL thats right Zulema!! Talk about being glad to see someone go!! When she stole Nick's model, man I was so mad I could have spit nails!! My husband and I just looked at each other with our mouths open when she did that, talk about the unexpected happening!!=oP And about kara going ninja on her that would have been worth seeing, lol
swiss74
I hear you and really cannot explain it either. I wish in some way I could justify it in my own mind, but I cannot. I don't know.

I hate to say this but I am beginning to believe that Jeffery will be in the final 3. The reason, he has even tho I do not particularly like them, has done some solid garments. Uli has basically repeated the same garment over and over, or variations of it. Laura has done classic, clean designs but nothing really super great. Now do not misunderstand me, both Laura's and Uli's designs are great but not super great. Both Kayne and Robert have had their ups and downs but when they are on they are outstanding. I thought rightfully Kayne could have been ousted with his fireworks design (last episode). I thought minus the belt and the material choice Robert's Jackie O was not too bad. Had he lined it better with some pelon interfacing or iron on stuff it would not have wrinkled. I think even tho they edited it out, Diane Von F saved him with her remark, paraphrased, I knew Jackie well and she would wear that outfit. She really stopped the others cold with that remark. They could not argue with her on that point. Heck who knows what is going to happen now.

Of course, you realize that a bid of even a penny will give Vincent the idea that he designed a valid garment! >giggle!<
gina2
probably!! lol I think that he thinks he can do no wrong now that a better designer than him was booted off before he was. I am going to be watching with bated breath on wednesday. i sure hope he goes.

Maybe Vincent has something on Michael and Nina if he knew them years ago... would explain shy he's still on.

Thats it!. Vincent has pictures of Nina rubbing sunless tanning lotion on a pasty white Michael Kors. Michael is on his hands and knees with his big "O" face on and Nina is straddeling him and she is wearing Santinos fugly lingerie and a pair of Heidis thigh high hooker boots. Everytime Vincent said "it turns me on" during the episode it was code for vote me off and I go public.

I think you hit the nail on the head...it's a theory we've been dancing around for many pages now. I think they like to see that you're passionate about your work...if you can make it fine but as Tim has said several different ways "can you defend it?"...remember "Yes Nina, I meant for her to have a gaint butt..." Santino was good at defending. And in the end isn't that important in the busisness world...lots of people are talented but do you have the drive?

I have been thinking, I wonder which season of Project Runway does everyone think is the best, the most bizarre, and the just outright most wierd?

Many good points, but it doesn't matter what you do to most linen...line it...starch it...aside from stretching in on cardbaord...if you leaned over to tie your shoe you end up with wrinkles...if you sneeze...well you know. Linen exists for one reason, to breathe in the summer. In the eras of no skin allowed linen was the next best thing.

So far, I'd go with season 2 for challenges, personalities, etc. Season 1 was too busy finding its feet, and 3 so far has not quite come up to the same mark.
swiss74
I agree with you totally.

Goodevening everyone.

Again, my broadband has been down all day. It is going to drive me to drink, but then is that such a bad thing?

Been trying to catch up on the post.

I must say the mental picture of Nina rubbing tanning oil on a white pasty Kors is going to stay with me a while.

I have had some success with using a very light weight pelon iron on interfacing in keeping the wrinkles down to a bare minimum. It keeps the garment breathing and keeps it holding its shape.

I don't guarantee it will work in all cases with linen, I kind of believe it has to do with the weight of the linen. I love linen and living in Texas it is a saver here. I learned this when my husband brought me a linen dress back from Singapore when he was on a business trip. Althought with the heat now bathing suits are even too hot to wear. If the heat does not break soon I am considering a conference with Mother Nature. Right now I am really glad in some ways I am moving back to my home town in Illinois for some cooler weather. Three weeks to go...

I admit it, I'm fickle. I like whatever season is airing. I loved PR1 and thought I wouldn't be able to accept new designers in PR2. PR3 (IMO) is great so far. The designers are more established this time around, but so are their personalities. The weak ones are out first... makes me wonder how far Wendy Pepper would have made it with this group.

That's great for you...Watching the weather map on TODAY show you all are sitting under a big 100 for a while. The fabris I like instead of linen is poplin...or what I call prewrinkled linen...I've made a couple overall type things for my baby boy out of it and it works for his sweaty little self...

It says that Jia made it to the final 3. Jia is Vincents model. This most likely means that Vincent (& his crappy designs) made it to the final 3.
Vincent has been in the bottom 2 the entire show. He is like Kara (Season 2) & Wendy Pepper (Season 1) that rode the bottom 2 spot to the end.

I was looking at the picture and wondered if Alison would still be on the show if she had put the bow of hair on the model's neck like a chignon. Not much she could have done about the model's shape but I thought the dress made her look statuesque, i.e. attractively large, but certainly not fat.
OTOH nothing could have made Vincent's caricature of a dress look good and not a lot could have been done with Kayne's, though if the model's hair and make-up had been more normal it would have helped.

I've just finished dinner but I would enjoy a little PR Punch if there is some going around...

Actually the models have changed around some this year so we can only hope that it does not mean Vincent is in the final 3.

Head for your local quilt shop and get some Hoffmann batiks to sew yourself something cool. It is cotton lawn, opaque, and comes in luscious colors and patterns. Once ironed it doesn't wrinkle easily. A bit pricey maybe, but really nice.

I have a caftan-like long garment in an Indian batik that was a lifesaver when we had our real summer a couple of weeks ago.

I too like Uli, Michael, and Laura. What will be interesting to see is the designers develop as the challenges evolve. I remember Jay maturing in season one and Kara Janx (that precious, precious jewel) in season two; likewise, Nick's designs fell apart as season two progressed. There seems to be an equal chance with all three (Uli, Michael, and Laura) that we could see them peter out or rise to the occasion.

Now for my take on why Vincent was in this last week and Alison was out. I think there is something about Vincent that we viewers do not see that the judges see that leads them to believe that he still has some sparkly magic. In my field, there are certain artists that those of us in the art world adore but that the general public could give a rat's arse about. These "artist's srtist" types inspire and/or encourage the rest of us to continue to produce work, and I think perhaps Vincent may be one of those designers that is a "designer's designer." A little washed up, sure, but his drive to give it a go one more time must be endearing and infectious to the judges and producers of PR.

And as for Alison: her talents are surely understood by the judges, as is her sweet personality, good looks, and overall pluck. All this translates to a surefire successful career. She's young and success is in the bag; Vincent, well, this might be his last shot.

Thoughts, anyone?

Oh, and everyone: run, don't walk, to see "Little Miss Sunshine."

I like thie current season the best. Santino's antics last year distracted us from the fact that the field of designers was weak and some of those garments were shockingly bad. The only designers that you could count on to make very passable garments each time were Danny V and Chloe. This year, the cast contains a bucketful of highly experienced, competent, and creative designers. While we were initially hoping for another Santino and were disappointed when one didn't emerge, the show treats us instead to fabulously talented designers who can whip up believable, extraordinary garments. What is amazing is that Michael, Jeffrey, and Laura each immediately get a good fix on the challenge and defty whip up something each time. Robert and Kayne are equally talented, but their choices do not reflect the sure instinct of the first group. Uli, despite being a bit of a one-note, is hands down and excellent dress designer. And Angela, although uneven, continues to surprise. Even Vincent, with his well-made oddball looks, always makes stuff that is beautifully fit and well-executed.

I'm beginning to really like this season because, this time, it really is about the clothes. The producers don't have to scramble to fill with lots of whining and backbiting because these folks just put their heads down and work, work, work, and the sparks per episode have been surprisingly minimal thus far.

I also mentioned earlier that the video clips haven't moved the action forward as much this year, but after watching episode 306 again, I think they did an excellent job with the video clips. In this episode, each clip educated us, from describing the challenge as seen through a designer's eyes, to excellent descriptions of the problems some of them were having and how they were going to have to dig themselves out of it.

Lastly, loved the generous Tim time in this episode. As always, his instinct about what would improve the garment was impeccable. I also enjoy watching him lead the designer right up to the trough but letting the designer get the bright idea to drink the water. He's clearly determined not to do their thinking for them or give them substantive help that would advantage them. He'll agree or disagree with something that the designer says and encourage more discussion until the designer sees the issue, but he won't unilaterally just give the right answer to the designer. He does it so deftly that it is priceless.

Jia is CURRENTLY Vinent's model. If he gets the boot, somebody else gets to pick her. Or, they might shuffle around the models again. I don't think this article proves that Vincent made it to the final 3.

You know you could possibility be correct on that Vincent scenario, I just never thought of it that way. There has to be some explanation whether like yours makes sense or one explanation that only the Gods and 3 year olds would understand.

That is a very good take on the situation. I'll take it a step furthure and say that there are artists out there who LOVE art, but aren't necessarily good at it, but they want to be so they just keep at it. They are endearing and it you know them you root for them to achieve and grow. I think that is what Vincent is he is someone who LOVES design but his abilities are dated and he is trying to grow. I really feel however he's missing the important piece...the part you want to root for. I like his ambition but even when he was working with Angela's tough nature I had a problem with his attitude. The one thing that loses out with me when I work with artists or directors is the whole "If you question it at all then you just aren't bright enough to get it" thing. It's a defensive thing but it closes the door on anyone wanting to work with you or pull for you.

Well, I'm going through all that TOMORROW! I'm moving into a small apartment near the university in Bellingham, WA, where I'll be starting grad school next month. I drive north to pick up the keys tomorrow morning.

The bad news: the DSL and cable won't be installed/connected until Friday afternoon. The good news: the new place is only 90 miles from my current house (which I'm keeping), so I'm driving back home on Tuesday to pick up another load, and to watch PR on Wednesday, then back to Bellingham early Thursday a.m. to await delivery of new television/etc. followed by cable installation on Friday. Priorities, don'tchaknow!

Definitely agree in reagrds to Tim Gunn. As stated by many before - they are missing a Tim Gunn mentor on Top Chef. I wonder if he can cook?

OT - Speaking of things to go see, you just have to see "Snakes on a Plane." Went the other night and it was a hoot. Clearly destined to be a cult movie. It has some hilariously juvenile humor (guess where the first few people get bitten), then gets down to the task of so seriously scaring you that you'll be praying for an entire box of Depends.

Hint - Go to the showing that has a LOT of people. You want a lot of people around you when watching this, and the audience reaction is unbelievable.

Maybe Vincent isn't so outdated after all. We all made fun of his dog challenge dress with the black leggings, but I just got a catalog in the mail touting skin-tight black pants and leggings as the "must have it" items this fall. Who'da thunk it.

I will have to see that. Will take your suggestion and see it with people. Usually hit the rush hour showing at the cheapy cheapy price. That way I can avoid all the traffic in DFW area.
