Yay, Kathy!!! I love her. And as someone who has been on the quest for a better body, I appreciate the comments about pressure. I know we on this board have been round and round on this issue. But she is right, if you are in the media spotlight you have a responsiblity. Just as anyone working for any business has a level of responsibility to that business to choose words carefully when refering to qualities that business does or does not posess...it's part of your job like it or not.

I love Kathy too. Shes so funny and every interview Ive seen of her she seems human and not a diva at all.

She has so many good performances but my favorite is still the sister witch Hocu Pocus...when she gets on that vaccum...LOL

Wow, Andys blog was very interesting. For all the ones who rolled your eyes and thought some were making too much out of Tims and Heidis comments about plus size, read the blog.

Okay, read Andy's blog. Can't believe I forgot where it was.

Kathy has always been a fav of mine on celebrity poker.

Her email was well written and to the point. She was also correct on every point.

I don't think Heidi gives a rip though about young girls watching the program. Heidi cares only about ratings to bring in more sponsors. Just my opinion. It shows this season like it never has before in the other two seasons.

Sad that a really good show is now on it's way to becoming the same trash as other reality shows and talk shows. It's totally there yet but by season 4 I think it will be if they continue this way.

Hi everyone! I am back from a few days back home helping my sister move into her college apartment. Thanks for the link on the upcoming episode.

The way Robert was talking about who they were designing for, the model sounds somehow disfigured. (of course, disfigured by Bravo's standards seem to be anyone above a size 2)

Also, Damselfly - are you from the Valley? You sound like someone I knew when I lived there.... especially if you drank Purple.

I think I'm getting rid of them more because I'm 29 and don't want to look like I'm trying to be skinny and young than that they might be out of style. Not trying to tell you that you are...You probly look better in them than me
gina2
LOL I always uncheck it too, hence the typos sometimes =o)

uh uh hon. after watching "what not to wear", with my body type I wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of skinny leg jeans!! stacey says it makes people look like ice cream cones lol and after a better look I have to agree.(unless of course you are as thin as a rail, which I most definitly am not!!)

YAY! This is your former next door neighbor from Delaware Ave....my roomate attended the college you worked at. I don't want to use names for fear of people tracking me down and killing me for my sarcastic comments.

On another note...On how they look alone, I think I would hire either Bonnie or Robert. Robert's look is very classic. While Bonnie looks put together, and has a "normal" figure. I admire Laura's look, but I don't know if I could trust a woman that makes so many plunging necklines. Same goes for Uli.

there's a huge gap between jeans and tshirts and moo moos and slippers.. lol

I wear jeans almost everyday and switch to sweaters in the winter. I don't care if that's wrong. It's appropriate for my lifestyle.

No, the cat fight has come and GONE. Please, everybody, stop replying to the old posts. Read down the board for today and see the big surprise. And please be NICE to LegendaryFace. Or at least let her be.

I fear they are reading and responding as they go and have not come here to the end to see that this ended so many hours ago. Hope they are reading ahead and get the message or we are going to have several more pages of this.

'Fraid so. But, I did warn LegendaryFace that this would happen. Hope it dcesn't make her mad again.

: : : : ooommmmmmmmm: : : :

And I have to chime in to appologize to legendary and everyone here. I had read to the end of things when I made my comments a page or two back, but it was well after she had already started to make nice and Ijust missed it. (thats what happens when you skim too much )

The class structure in the country is the one thing that gets my goat every time and I over reacted, as usual!

Welcome, legendary, and please accept my sincerest "I'm sorry".

There is nothing wrong with wearing jeans, especially nowadays. As long as they aren't covered in crap (the inventor of the bedazzler should be attacked by one). Jeans can be dressed up or down, and look great on so many body types. As most of you seem to be Clinton and Stacey fans, you have to agree that the right jean can look fantastic.

P.S. Even the people in the new GAP commercial look awful in those skinny leg jeans. Ice cream cones all the way.

I have to say, that based on looks alone, I'd probably pick Laura...just because I think she looks the 'classiest' and that's how I would like to define my style (not that I achieve that!)...just because she wears plunging nnecklines, doesn't mean she'd make them for you...in fact, I don't think anything she's made thus far has a plunging neckline...maybe it would depend on exactly which outfit each was wearing at the time of selection. Laura has a cool, simple skirt that she pairs with a crisp white shirt which I think is really simple but elegant. If Angela showed up in any of her concoctions - yikes - next designer please! Jeffrey would scare me away because of the neck tatoo. I think after Laura, I would choose Alison...then Uli. Hmmm...perhaps I'm being sexist?! LOL

As I said before, the people who are trying to put us back in the 80's are people who were to young to learn the lessons we all have. Skinny legs make for large upper torso.

Oh, and I finally figured out what Kayne's last mess, I mean dress, looks like: A bag of Jiffy Pop Popcorn exploded in the microwave with green food dye!

Honestly, what I think Kayne did to save himself in this challenge? He looked around the room for ideas that he could copy with what materials he had, and he saw Uli's silver bubbly skirt and said, "I can do that," because if you look close his skirt on the runway (SUCH a transformation from the original concept!) was almost identical to her cut and style. Hey, in Manhattan we all have keys to each other's apartments, but we don't break in to steal their toasters. lol

I thought it looked more like Robert's

(I liked the Jiffy Pop analogy.. lol)
gina2
LOL thanks severn!! I love "what not to wear"!!

You are right gandm, the only plunging neckline I've seen so far from laura is the dress from episode 6 with the "for nuts only" on the back, which I thought was a great touch.

Speaking of Stacy & Clinton, wouldn't they make fabulous guest judges!! I wonder what they would have thought about Alison's creation from the last challenge....I have to say, I think they would have auffed Vincent just because the model could NOT walk, let alone SIT, in that contraption. Even if Alison's wasn't the most flattering, it was at least wearable...

Whoops! Duh! I had forgotten about that! But even though that neckline was plunging, it wasn't as severe as Laura's black dress with the neckline...or maybe it just doesn't look as severe when you don't see bony breastbone??

I didn't mean the necklines of the clothes Laura makes for the show, I meant the ones she wears (I had thought she said at some point that she designs the clothes she wears...).
gina2
LOL gandm!!(about the bony chest showing) I think that would be an awesome idea having Stacey and Clinton as guest judges!! =o) but they are on a rival network so don't know if they can =o(

Much better to have Trinny and Susannah from the original BBC "What Not to Wear"—a much better show than the American copy.

sorry severn meant no offense, i thought we were talking about the show designs not personal designs.

Hello swiss74,

First of all, I did not mean older academic as a negative.

Maybe I am guilty of lumping you in with a group of women who identified themselves as older college professors in a previous thread. The group was complaining about the laziness of their students and bemoaning lax principles in relation to the whole Keith Michael fiasco, remember?

I'm sorry you feel "attacked". That was never my attention. I was reaching for words to describe why some people are particularly sensitive to what is "appropriate" and others flaunt those "rules". I think it has to do with class, which is a very sensitive subject. That is the only reason I brought up my background so as not to appear snooty. In my town the waitresses dress more conservatively and often better than their customers, frankly, because they feel more pressure to do so. We have a "liberal" setting also. That has little to do with anything in my opinion. The man in the tie works for the man in the jeans here. It is not a corporate culture, but money rules all the same.

You talk about being upset you have to "defend your status". My post was not an "attack" on anyone's status, but there are whole groups of people who seem to feel they have to defend their "status" every day, and dressing "appropriately" is one of the ways they do that. All I was trying to explain is why Laura may not be in that group.

My style of posting is purposefully provocative about ideas and meant to get a conversation or debate going, not "attack" my fellow posters. I regret that you took my opinion post on Laura otherwise. It was not an opinion post on you and your status believe me!

And I was not calling overweight women cows, as you implied. I was talking about the mostly beautiful women who flock like sheep to get breast implants. I could also talk about the unethical surgeons who accept teenage patients for this if that angle makes it less uncomfortable. There are real social pressures that spur these women to go under the knife. Not all of them are competing for jobs that require a certain figure, but that is bad enough.

I know that even bringing up certain issues is somewhat incendiary even if there is no bad intention. That is why our mothers taught us never to bring up sex, religion, class, or politics at the table. But I know you believe in free expression. You just wish that I was more diplomatic in my choice of words, yes? And so do I sometimes. I get no joy from provoking "self defense" posts.

I want to make it clear that I honestly do apologise for any offense that I have given you. I don't know you except for the things you have posted about yourself, and I know that you were not "talking" to me, but to others. I just responded to your post because it made me think about these issues. I will continue to read and enjoy your posts, but in future, I will hook on to an old post of mine to respond to your ideas so that you will not take my opinions personally.
with respect,
notevayas

Swiss, I know you were replying to someone but thought I would ask about the large breast statement. First, not every American has a breast fixation. Laura would look much better if she covered her ribs up IMO. I am a Laura fan but I just cringe at her necklines and poor posture. Any comments about Lauras bustline are similar to what ive said or said in jest. My mom is very tall and thing with a Laura like bust and she has heard every boob joke said. I didnt understand the breast statement, did you? If so, explain please.

As for skinny leg jeans, if I like something I buy it. I dont follow trends and I wear what I like.

brillke

I commented that Laura's plunging neckline revealed her rib cage. Then in the response to my statement she said some cultures are not fixated on big breasts as the American's are. I truly did not think American's were all that hung up on large breasts. Other than that I just did not understand it either. I was commenting on one thing, rib cage bones and she intrepreted that to mean I was saying big breasts. She felt I was criticising Laura for not having breasts. She felt I fell into that category. Other than that I don't know what she was saying or alluding to.
As I stated she was not reading what I was writing, that she was reading way too much into what I was writing. She was intrepreting my statements incorrectly.
I was offended by some of her personal attacks and assumptions as to me and who I am. We all come to the board with baggage from our background but we need not use that to comment about other people.
I have learned I had better explain myself better (I thought I was writing so it would not be misunderstood) because of baggage. I can not be held responsible for other's baggage as I can only work with mine and try to disregard what of my background others feel is offensive. She made way too many assumptions about me that were totally incorrect.

Does anyone remember the first guy on What Not to Wear? He had longer gray hair. I really liked him.

So does anyone have further speculation on what will happen with tomorrow's episode? The Yahoo link that was posted entitled the Episode "Sacred". And that the designers are creating for "an unusual model".

Let me know if this has already been beaten to death over the weekend. That way I can go back and read. When I left, everyone was still just bashing the judges and talking about how much they will miss Alison.

Yes, I prefer Stacey & Clinton, too. Although, I did skim one of the books from the British duo and they are right on the money with how to dress for your figure to look better. And, geez, they put it right out there and even use themselves for examples.

BTW, be sure to read Andy's blog. Hurray to Kathy N. for sticking up for the real size women of America! I have been a size 12 for a year now -- this is the largest I've ever been -- and I feel awful about myself! I won't even let my picture be taken anymore b/c it disgusts me! And the thing is, I do go to the gym - 2 to 4 times a week. I even have workout partner for two of those times. Before that, I had a personal trainer. And nothing seems to work. My workout partner and I have the same weight issues -- want to lose it, are working on it, but no success (and she's still working with a personal trainer). We're now both considering hypnotherapy!!! Aaaggghhhh!
gina2
i remember the guy with the long hair, he was great but I guess with his long hair he was out of tune with the show.(but I love long hair on men as long as it is clean lol)

Heya SisterZip,
While I applaud you and the others who are "playing nice" with the face now I do hope you all are not kidding yourselves. Face has not played nice yet and all you need to do is look at yesterdays comments to see what I mean. I feel almost insulted when I see so many coddling Face. Its like in grade school, you got the bully who everyone just grins and bites their tongue so everybody can play in the perviable sandbox. Face can say whatever they want, they mean nothing to me. I just hate seeing nice people go out of their way to be so pleasant to someone who enjoys being a troll.
