Me I am five years from retirement. I have decided to retire at 62. Reason, cause it is just time. I want to enjoy more traveling and visiting my offsprings and their offsprings. I want to enjoy all the advantages of being a grandmother. You know, handing the baby back with a soiled pamper, not having to get up at all hours of the night to feed, not worrying about where they are and what they are doing. After you have raised your own it is nice to sit back and just watch and participate on a selective basis.
At times my mother used to say about my brother and I, "Gee I hope my grandchildren give their parents hel_."

Good for you! That's what I say about my twin niece and nephew -- great to have around and then get to return them to my brother!!! My dogs are my kids (of course, I'd never refer to them as accessories - LOL) and that's just fine with me! When they misbehave, I can banish them to the backyard or stick them in a crate. If I did that with my niece and nephew, I'm sure I'd have a visit from the Dept of Child Welfare

Yes, keeping a shirt white and unwrinkled is almost impossible, especially if you live in a hard water area in an apartment like I do.
There is some Wrinkle Release spray stuff I found which is pretty good to minimize ironing, but works best if clothing is damp or just out of the dryer. Would be nice if the designers could all have something like this.
Actually, if you like the white shirt and skirt and want your own designer doll, check out the Robert Tonner Company. His star doll is a 16" plastic and vinyl fashion designer named Tyler Wentworth. Until a few year's ago, the basic doll, always came in a crisp white blouse/bodysuit and A-line wool(which is lined)skirt, with hose, closed toed classic pumps and a string of "pearls" Blonde, brunette, and redhead. Her "friend" Sydney Chase has her own model agency and a string of models. None are quite a size 0. If Tonner would make a 17" tall Tim Gunn doll, we collectors could play PR. (Remaking Tyler's boyfriend, Matt, just doesn't look quite like Professor Gunn). The Tim Gunn bobblehead is just not good enough.
The newest line is the "American Model" dolls, which are 22" tall--about 1/3 larger than Tyler and twice as tall as Barbie. I'm finally breaking down and getting one, because I have all kinds of designs I want to do that won't work easily or at all with Barbie or Tyler. Hopefully this doll will be in my little designing hands tomorrow and we can watch Episode 7 together. This challenge will be very interesting. Of course, Robert wasn't happy since even a real model, isn't as perfect as Barbie. What I did notice in the Bravo preview and the one on bloggingprojectrunway is that few of the designers are doing a jacket--is it time constraints or client preferences that make it appear that at least some of the designers are doing ponchos or wraps. Angela appears to have a shawl with not exactly fringe, but a kind of medieval-castle up and down edge cut into the fabric. Uli was draping a sheer print over a sleeveless bodice.
Looks like the designers have to come up with an ensemble. Wonder if they have to do accessories as well, or is Kayne trying to do it all when he interviews about all he has to make.

I remember the worst toy my youngest received it was a machine that shaved ice for those ice cones. I was cleaning everything until I broke it by accident. I actually ban that machine to the out of doors because it was just too messy. I got tired of walking around with a windex bottle and towel all the time.
Actually my offsprings love to see me come because I take the time with their children that they just do not have and take them to events the kids love that the parents just can not do because of the ages of all their children. One grandaughter sees me as the clothes provider. The one that buys the clothes their parents think are too expensive. Another sees me as the consumate game buyer and player and I don't even let them win. When they play a game with me and they win they know they have accomplished something. Another one sees me as the companion bike rider, while her younger sister sees me as her best friend and confidant. She calls me on the phone and tells me things she feels she can not discuss with her parents. I encourage her to talk to them. But at least she knows she has someone that does not condemn or condone, one who does not get shocked at anything she might say. I enjoy the job of grandmother on a whole.

Absolutely. I'm in the "sandwich" generation myself. We're looking after my almost 97-year-old mother-in-law (still living on her own and sharp as a tack with excellent vision and hearing, bless her!) and my soon-to-be 81-year-old mother, who is pretty much running every activity her apartment building has to offer (younger than me, I think!).
On the other side, we have a 29-year-old daughter who hasn't quite grown up yet. Whether we ever see any grandchildren is very much up in the air.
And we're getting ready to move to a new townhouse, ditching our house and the pain-in-the-hindquarters lawncare and gaining mucho interior space (and four flights of steps; should be good for a few pounds off)!

i read in the people mag article about Tim that he hadn't had a relationship since the early 80's. maybe he got fed up with the drama...but then again, he is on PR.
he is a cutie, though i am personally not interested in men who aren't interested in women. once i find out a man is gay, it is like a switch. i can like them as a person, but can no longer think about them in a crush/attraction context. self preservation at its finest.

I too am doing the house ditch thing. I am tired of the lawn, bushes, gardens, etc. The only thing I will regret is that I may not be able to have all the kids and grandkids at home at the same time anymore. Although I have visions of sleeping bags on the living room floor and the rest of the grandchildren hanging from the light fixtures. Will have enough rooms for the adults. They have always come home at Christmas and we really have a blast. It is just a family thing. Last time they all came home, I opened a closet door and there behind the clothes was one sitting and listening to his walkman. I looked at him questioningly and he responded, "We are playing hide and seek and they forgot about finding me so I am enjoying my music." I just closed the door and moved on. I never know what to expect next. They are fun.

I lost my grandmother 3 years ago this October. She never got to meet my son or my sisters daughter. It was quite a loss that has really rocked the women in our family. I valued her and what she gave me growing up...she was quite the fashionista, had shoes to match everything. But she gave me sooo much that my mother couldn't. Now I watch my mom with my son and I see her having those things to offer him. It's an important role you all play and it is greatly appreciated...

Laura has a cool, simple skirt that she pairs with a crisp white shirt which I think is really simple but elegant.
I haven't worn crisp white shirts in a long time because I hate to iron, and if you send them to the cleaners eventually they look yellowed. However, my great discovery is that Nordstrom's sells a wonderful shirt with great lines that doesn't WRINKLE. Take it right out of the dryer. I was blown away and in respect to Laura, I bought a white one.
And it's Nordstrom's label?? Thanks for the tip...I can't stand ironing!! Although I do seem to do it on almost a daily basis. Dry cleaning is so expensive for every day work clothes so I try to stay 'wash and wear' for work --- but that means a permanent ironing board in my room so I iron and put it right on! Ugh! No wonder I'm usually 5 minutes late to work!
I know my SIL is happy with Nordstrom's but I'm thrilled with my Liz Claiborne shirts. I started buying them three years ago, they are labeled "no iron" and I can't believe that they still come out of the dryer with the crease in the sleeve. I've got 14 now and don't think I'll ever buy any other ones.

Not to but into your business and you can tell me to go take a flyin leap but have you considered getting your thyroid checked?
Naah, I wouldn't tell you to take a flyin' leap!! Any advice is certainly appreciated! What is your thyroid and how do you check it?
Somehow, I think it's just me, though....I love food too much! But the odd thing is, no matter what I do (even when I do really watch what I eat and am excercising), it seems I can only gain weight. If I'm moderately careful with food but stop exercising, I gain. Without changing my eating habits, when I do exercise, I don't lose. My body is a one way street! LOL
By the way, my mom is petite and wears a size 6. How frustrating is that!! Of course, she has little in the boob area and I had a reduction when I was 22. So we're definitely different body types...still, if I keep going at this rate, I'm just going to get bigger and bigger and bigger (like that girl in Willy Wonka who ate the blueberry gum)!!
OT
"Violet...you're turning violet" One of my favorite scenes.
You general practitioner will either do the test or will send you to someone who will (I can't think of the name of the specailist right now)
It's a gland that releases hormones, I think (not a doctor). Something about if it gets the wrong singnal it can release the wrong amount and this can effect your (sorry males) cycle or your weight or your emotions...it can have a lot of effects. It can change too after giving birth or major traumas. Some people need to take things to get it back on track..
Can I jump in? I have low-thyroid function, and it is basically a hormonal issue. The thyroid controls several things, notably your metabolism. Without the appropriate level of the hormone, your body functions are sluggish. There are a lot of other symptoms besides inability to lose weight...you experience an incredible exhaustion...it takes everything you can put into it just to get out of bed, and you have to expend all your concentration to accomplish anything at all....work, family, home, because your body is screaming at you that it wants to sleep.... you also experience your hair thinning, your fingernails become ridged, you get incredibly horrid chills...as though your bones have turned to icicles, and even though it's 80 degrees outside you are in sweats and every blanket in the house shivering. I've been there. If you even suspect it is thyroid, get it checked now instead of waiting for the other symptoms to hit. If it is thyroid, you will be on a supplement for the rest of your life, but the good news is that as long as you keep your meds up, the symptoms pretty much stay away.
Sorry....but I've dealt with this for the last 20 years, and would not want anyone to think it was something to be taken lightly.

I bought a Liz Claiborne shirt last year when all the camp shirts were back in style and I love it. It's not crisp is actually very light and the fabric has a natural wrinkle so I don't always feel the need to iron it. It's classic though and I'll probably wear holes in it before I ever got rid of it. I also just bought a bag of hers for the fall. Nice style for a decent price...

Really? How in the heck does acupuncture help?? For weight loss? It's helped with my earlier back problems but hadn't thought about it for my weight...
And after watching all the plastic surgery episodes on discovery channel, I think I'll skip the lipo -- too painful and I'm too much of a wimp for that!!
BTW, this month's Real Simple had an article on jeans that discussed weight trends. Compared to 30 years ago (or something like that), women are 1 inch shorter and 25 pounds heavier, on average. In 2001, the average woman was 5'2" and 164 pounds.
Peeking in...I just love Real Simple. It is one of my favorite magazines. Yeah!

I don't want to get personal so I'm not posting this as a question but I would love to know how old everyone is. As I posted before I'm 29 and am glad to have so much in common with what seems to be a varying range of ages.
I will turn 55 in September, I moved here to retire, I live in a resort area on the water near Galveston. Now I only work 7 days a week! But I am near my beautiful Grandbabies and they make it all worth it.

Hey Damsel, what is the buzz in the valley with Marla Duran? I meant to ask if there was any local coverage about her.
Not much coverage about her. The only article I remember reading was like 2 years before she was on the show Lehigh Valley Mag voted her one of the top 10 stylish people in the LV and I remember reading about her prada shoes or something and thinking that doesn't make you stylish but then again this is the LV and if it has a high class name or says its from NY then it has to be stylish, fresh, the best, etc...
This really surprises me. Especially with the success of PR, I would think that it would be the talk of the town up there. I was rooting for Marla, but only because I had seen the stuff in her shop. I didn't care for the things she made on the show.
PA has been represented each season so far. Jay in Season 1, Marla in 2, and both Angela (born in PA) and Bonnie (Went to school/grew up in PA) for Season 3.
Really! I knew about Jay and Marla but I didn't know about Angela and Bonnie. We can claim Bonnie, that's ok but I would prefer if you kept the info about Angela on the dl if you know what I mean...LOL!

I agree...it's enjoyable to see what a diverse group we really are....I'm going to be 53 in less than a month (born in 1953 also, which tickles me) retired, working part-time just to work, developing a business, and enjoying being a later in life mom and wife! (We had our kidlet just before I turned 40 LOL!)

Uh oh...don't laugh, ok? Full figure resale (new and used clothing) We are gearing towards women who are going through fast weight loss...such as bariatric surgery or fast temporary weight gains from medications and don't want to invest a lot of money in a temporary wardrobe, but do want to present themselves well and professionally. We gear towards quality fabrics...silk, linen, cotton, designer names, as well as just plain durable things.....good jeans and shirts for everyday. We just finished up our open aire vending here in beautiful Southern California, but with the season changing we are moving to online sales, probably through Ebay for now. Eventually we want to open as a boutique (hopefully by the end of 2007) Our registered business name is "Curved Divas"
:-) & thanks for asking.

Thats awesome. You know who else needs that kind of thing. Postpardum women. I remeber I didn't fit into any of my cloths but I really didn't want to wear my maternity clothing anymore, but like you said you don't want to in invest in new clothing for your fat time so that would have been a totally cool palce to go...

What if they put Santino in Heidi's place. Frightening thought. Although he was good during this year's interviewing process much to Tim's surprise.
I have read most of the thoughts on how to improve the program. Let us all get together and develop our own program and sell it to Bravo and make oodles and oodles of money. After last week's auf I feel we could not do worse than they are. We could call it, "Down the Fashion Ramp." and other name suggestions?
Just make sure you don't let them see the idea before you make the final presentation...you don't want to have to sue like a couple of other people. (check previous messages somewhere about people suing for copyright infringement.)
Will do, don't like the courts, am slightly intimidated by them for some reason. Writing my copyright application now. Not waiting for the robbery.

Yah know what just hit me...Here we are debating about Allison losing out because of her design and her models size and how aweful Hiedi's comments have been, but what about the model. Yah sure it's gotta suck to have to stand there and have those things said about you and it's got to suck even more to watch the show later and here the word zaftig linked with how you look. But now...which designer is going to pick her to work with having heard those remarks about her. They basically just kicked her off the show which means that they've kick the only more normal girl off the show...
