Yah know what just hit me...Here we are debating about Allison losing out because of her design and her models size and how aweful Hiedi's comments have been, but what about the model. Yah sure it's gotta suck to have to stand there and have those things said about you and it's got to suck even more to watch the show later and here the word zaftig linked with how you look. But now...which designer is going to pick her to work with having heard those remarks about her. They basically just kicked her off the show which means that they've kick the only more normal girl off the show...

You are right on that. I felt sorry for her as she was standing there listening to it all. Her face indicated that she was either upset or hurt or maybe I read too much into her reaction.

I don't want to get personal so I'm not posting this as a question but I would love to know how old everyone is. As I posted before I'm 29 and am glad to have so much in common with what seems to be a varying range of ages.

*smiles*
I agree...it's enjoyable to see what a diverse group we really are....I'm going to be 53 in less than a month (born in 1953 also, which tickles me) retired, working part-time just to work, developing a business, and enjoying being a later in life mom and wife! (We had our kidlet just before I turned 40 LOL!)
Jazzie

What type of business?

Uh oh...don't laugh, ok? Full figure resale (new and used clothing) We are gearing towards women who are going through fast weight loss...such as bariatric surgery or fast temporary weight gains from medications and don't want to invest a lot of money in a temporary wardrobe, but do want to present themselves well and professionally. We gear towards quality fabrics...silk, linen, cotton, designer names, as well as just plain durable things.....good jeans and shirts for everyday. We just finished up our open aire vending here in beautiful Southern California, but with the season changing we are moving to online sales, probably through Ebay for now. Eventually we want to open as a boutique (hopefully by the end of 2007) Our registered business name is "Curved Divas"
:-) & thanks for asking.

Thats awesome. You know who else needs that kind of thing. Postpardum women. I remeber I didn't fit into any of my cloths but I really didn't want to wear my maternity clothing anymore, but like you said you don't want to in invest in new clothing for your fat time so that would have been a totally cool palce to go...

That is a great idea! I love it.

Well...we already have some maternity clothes in our "holiday" selections, one that I particulary love is a short sleeved black velvet dress, knee length, with a few light silk rosebuds embroidered on the bodice. It has an empire (ompier????) waist with a slightly fuller skirt....it's a nice selection for a woman who has smaller upper body size but fuller tummy and hips. (It was one of my scrounge finds at a thrift store!)

*grin*
As to the franchise....I wouldn't mind offering you the first chance at it! You are on the East Coast, yes????
Jazzie
Jazzie53
PS: I've found that sometimes I find better deals in terms of price and fashion in the maternity clothes than in Lane Bryant, for example!
Go figure!

Well, y'all know I'm 55 yrs old 'cause I just posted it a couple of days ago. That's chonological age. Mentally, I feel I'm late 20s or so. I still don't now what I want to be when I grow up!

Yes, I am but I'm not sure I'm ready to own a business yet. My sister keep telling me about how big baby consignment is in the south where she lives and thinks I should do it but as Severn can probably attest resale is rough around here. There are really 2 types of people...one's who are so poor that they look to the real thrift stores to get really low prices and one's who wouldn't be caught dead in resale...the middle is far and few between...But what you need is people who scavenge for you an send you things....might give you a wider variety...especailly if you found someone in NY

Just grabbed on... not directed to this post.
Just had to add after reading Andy's blog and Kathy's email.
Loved it! Kathy is right on target, but after reading Andy's closing remarks about the coming episode which clearly refers to "plus size", just got me to wondering...the timing and subject of this next episode...after Heidi's remarks and attidude about Alison's model. Just lucky scheduling?

Me I am five years from retirement. I have decided to retire at 62. Reason, cause it is just time. I want to enjoy more traveling and visiting my offsprings and their offsprings. I want to enjoy all the advantages of being a grandmother. You know, handing the baby back with a soiled pamper, not having to get up at all hours of the night to feed, not worrying about where they are and what they are doing. After you have raised your own it is nice to sit back and just watch and participate on a selective basis.
At times my mother used to say about my brother and I, "Gee I hope my grandchildren give their parents hel_."

Oh another reason it is wonderful to be a grandmother, you can spoil grandchildren rotten and drive their parents nuts. I hope you all realize that most of this is said tongue in cheek.

Ahhhh, but you can do that equally well as an AUNT! I'm another of those rare female animals who had no desire to have children (and my now-ex-husband definitely didn't want children, either). But I had a ball spoiling my niece and nephew, much to the chagrin of their parents.

I mentioned awhile back that my sister owns a resale shop in Texas. It's an "upscale resale" shop. When she opened it last year she was terrified she would have no inventory but now she says she is swimming in it. She spent a fortune to open it and advertise it and decorate it, but it is now the premier resale shop in town. Of course, she is just breaking even so far (one year) but like I said, it is a gorgeous space and she has tons of employees, etc.

And I forgot to add that we did a cost analysis, she has to bring in $4,000/week to break even...that might help you to decide if you want to open something.

When I was a child, we had those oh, I think they were called Colorforms. It was a picture of some scene with little slick plastic clothes you could dress the characters in. Very 2 dimensional, but fun still. Please tell me I am not the only one who remembers these! I am seeing big bucks in a PR Colorform. Or even better, a Tim Gunn paper doll set.

I know this is a few days old, but I couldn't resist.

I LOVED colorforms! And paperdolls. I still have quite a few of my paperdolls from way back when. I think PR Paperdolls would be a great idea. Add a few pages for people to design their own outfits for the model with a basic how-to. All of them...Nina, Michael, Heidi, and of course, Tim Gunn. Would be great!
Legolass
Some of the paper doll clothes had little magnets on the back so they stayed on the doll. Didn't have all those paper tabs that would get torn off. Colorforms would be an excellent choice.

That's the case on other lists I am on and it really doesn't seem to make a lot of difference -- except that I remember a lot of things that other people weren't around for!

I have managed to reach the 3/4 century mark but am still not old enough to BE this old. It scares me sometimes to realize how far back I can remember though... esp when it comes to fashions, some of which I have seen come and go several times!

Thanks....we are taking it step by step! Fortunately, this part of So Cal seems pretty good for mid-line resale. We plan on starting small....since I'm semi-retired, it helps. I have my pension, so, unlike Vincent and his 401K, I don't need to rely on the store to feed my family, and I'll be free to devote my time to it (that means hopefully starting out without employees, just me and my partner...and of, course my teenager and hubby for extra muscle assists!)

Well good luck to you. This week I will be going to the Mart here in Atlanta. Most of her accessories are new, also some of the stock. So I get to be her buyer. It's a lot of fun just to do that part of it. I do know that there is an association of resale shop owners, plus they have software available for inventory, tags, barcodes, etc. This may be telling you stuff you already know.

Gena,
I was beginning to think everyone was in bed...I posted earlier about Andy's blog and Kathy's email. I was wondering how convenient it was that this week's episode is about "plus
sizes" after Heidi's comments.

Oh, I thought he said "cool" girl.
Well, either way, I agree with you. These girls must feel poked, proded, and coralled by the end of each runway show, especially when you consider that designers don't always finish their garments before they have to walk out. Weren't some of Zulema's and Santino's taped onto the model themselves?

And let's not forget about Kayne's comments: Be pretty, not heard. And grab some duct tape in case you forget that!

Well, I suppose they sign up for it when they choose that profession. But, it helps explain why girls who model have such self-esteem issues...

Just going through some old posts...

Every year the makers of Duck Tape brand duct tape have a contest for the best designed prom dress/outfit. The 2006 winners got $6000. http://www.ducktapeclub.com/contests/default.asp

click on contest pages & it shows the winners.

I think they could get big sponsor dollars out of Duck Tape!

Are we watching the same show? Perhaps folks are getting a bit jaded, but I think this season really rocks.

I obviously agree FF1 or I wouldn't be here.. lol

The first season I tuned in to one show and changed the channel. Season 2 I watched the last 1/2 through a marathon and was "eh" and this season I love it.

My reasons are the designers as a group I think are better.

I think the designers are of a higher caliber than the first two seasons...except for Stacey who didn't know how to use a sewing machine!! Good grief!

You know, I didn't watch the first two seasons until there was season 2 marathon one day and I sat glued to the boob tube! Then watched a season 1 marathon. I have to say --- don't blast me for it --- that I don't think Wendy Pepper was as bad as everyone said she was. If you were to watch without any preconceived notions (and no influential message boards), she was actually pretty talented; I think the boards tend to influence people to think one way or another about a designer and then it snowballs....

a day late & dollar short....

I thought Wendy's wedding dress was beautiful. Very modern but classic looking. The red trim gave it a wonder punch. but I didn't like her as a person. She was "playing" a game instead of worrying about the design. Had she not been so worried about other people, she might not have been on the bottom so much. But then, it got her to the final....

Sure, I'll just leave it out. It's not going anywhere with all the water in it. On the home front, I'll be packing up the second load for the new apartment tomorrow to haul up north on Thursday (hauled the first load up yesterday), so I'll be ready for a nice soak and some punch while I watch epi 7.

You know, the only thing bothering me about the possibility of it being Martha Stewart is the tie-in. With Macy's as one of the major sponsor's and MS linked to the K-Mart stuff, would they consider bringing her in as a judge???? Although, considering that MS is known for the "crafty stuff"....that could account for the enraptured look on Angela's face! Hmmmm......rosettes and fleurshons R Us????

And while we're waiting on the grill....here's some chips and salsa (with jalapeno's right out of our patio garden) to go with the PR punch.

I am so not Martha but wanna be. Well, not the going to jail part.

Grills ready,grab a burger.

I didn't want to admit I love her too. Was royally pi$$ed about the jail thing, but she did the right thing in getting it over with. I don't like all of her stuff, but I can adapt what I do like to fit my budget. The recipes are a bit high-falutin' for my pedestrian tastes, but some things work.

love, Love, LOVE my cookware from Kmart of MS.

Sorry, I felt Martha got what she deserved. All she had to do was tell the truth and she wouldn't have gone to jail.

Gotta disagree with ya there. If she had confessed, she would still be in jail and for quite a few more years. Ol' Ken Lay (Enron disaster) got off too easy by dying.

Thought I'd get some punch flowing. If you had to be a designer, who would it be, and why??

I think I would have been Katherine Gerdes. Mellow, out-of-the-way, not out for blood, just trying to hang in there.

Kinda weird choice, but I'm certainly not Laura and Angela is just to Wackadoo. Alison is to young, cute, etc. I think I would have to pick.....Robert. We have this Barbie thing going................. Pink is the color of my true luuuuvvvssss hair........

i thought these boards were for talking about THE SHOW. if you guys want to battle out your personal opinions on things pick up the phone.

THIS is the kinda bs that makes me want to pull my hair out. Its been 6 days of talking the show to death and 1000`s of post later someone had to make a comment like this? Geez, pick a page. There are tons to choose from and the show has been discussed to death. Heck, we were even asked why we were still discussing the show yesterday. Damn, cant win for losing. Im gonna spike the PR punch and paint mustaches on everyone when they pass out, hrmph!.

I only come here to discuss the show and I will for a full 7 days until the next show and next board opens and then repeat.

There's no reason that it's almost 300 pages but it would be about 1/2 that if the suggestion by the poster was taken
