I'm not as happy with the Viking as I had hoped I would be...love the french top, but the ovens just don't thrill me. Pehaps they just take getting used to. What I do love are the induction burners on my center island...wow! I can
reduce a sauce in no time!! Will ask Santa for wine fridge, though...I love my wine...
Funny you should mention the oven.. The first time I had my family over for dinner, I served a beef tenderloin...it should have taken only 12 minutes to finish in the oven but it took like 30 minutes! So my mom gave me an oven thermometer, and, sure enough, the temps were waaaaay off...and oven was going on and off at random...turns out there was a faulty part that had to be replaced. Happy to say it's working fine now, though. I must say that I love having 6 burners to work with! Though I don't use the griddle or grill section much. It's actually covered so it's like having a work surface to set stuff on in the middle of all the burners...so it comes in handy in it's own way! LOL

[King Tut is back for the third time, have been gone way to long and never have seen it yet. In Kansas when it came the first time, in California the second time but going to catch it this time. I always wanted to be involved with antiquities excavation but my mother said, "You riding around on a camel with those funny hats and scarf blowing in the breeze, I am laughing at the image." When I stopped to think about it she was right. Don't want camels spitting in my face.
Are you an Amelia Peabody fan? *giggle*. I went to Egypt just before 9/11 and loved it; sorry to say I will never again travel to a Muslim country.
I hear you about not going to a Muslim country again. Lived in Saudi Arabia for a few and it was nice but came home when all the trouble started with Iran and the hostages. Many of the people I met were wonderful but just too dangerous and you don't really know who or what they are. Like Viet Nam friends by day and enemies at night.

I actually chose gas for the oven. I don't use my oven much so I wasn't as concerned with that. If I do use my oven, it's usually to bake dog treats for my dogs!! <they're soooo spoiled - lol> The top is gas, of course, 6 burners plus a grill. I think electric ovens probably work better but would never have an electric range ever again! Once you've cooked with gas, it's hard to adjust to electric. My mom has tried to get me to come over to her house to cook for her and my dad and I just refuse! Her cooktop is a 20 year old Jenn Aire. Ugh!

I will be off line for a few days or that is what I anticipate. I leave the Dallas Fort Worth area on the seventh and will be hooked up in Chicago on the eleventh. That is I will have the service but I will have to find the ATT/SBC box for the internet after the movers plop my cherished belongings, computer, television and internet box amongst the other stuff I have. Believe me I have my priorities straight, get on line asap. I have times the move so I probably will not miss an episode of Project Runway. I am hooked I admit it. I will miss Texas but health dictates that I move out of the heat. For some reason I cannot breathe in the heat, the doctors have given it a long luxury name, but what I know is breathing is impossible without oxygen when I am outside. I am tired of dragging that around with me. So Grandmother and her Trans Am are moving north.

We need good teachers in this country and we need to PAY THEM WHAT THEY'RE WORTH!! For goodness sakes!! Why does everyone seem to know that but no one does anything about it?!?!?!?
IMHO it is because public schools are funded by taxes, most often property taxes, and people don't like to pay taxes. /begin rant What really, really bugs me is when people w/ no children say they shouldn't have to pay any taxes that go toward education. WTF??? Don't they know those kids will one day be their doctor or CPA or mayor or president? Do they want a bunch of illiterates in positions of power and influence? I have no children but I gladly pay my taxes for education. And I don't mind paying any other tax...I consider it the price of admission to live in the USA. /rant over
I, for one, pay a LOT in taxes...almost 40% of my salary goes to Uncle Sam! I don't mind it funding education in the least. I also happen to live in one of the best school districts in the country and pay high property taxes to do so....because it's a GREAT community to live in....I do NOT have children, nor do I plan to! But that doesn't mean I don't want our schools churning out uneducated bumble heads! If I had my way, I would be able to allocate that 40% of my salary to what I feel would be appropriate spending, like education! Can you imagine how wacky our country would be if each tax payer got to decide which programs they would and wouldn't fund!

What gets to me is teachers, in IL at least, cannot get SSI after they retire even though they paid in all the years they worked. If you worked only 1 day as a teacher, kiss your SSI goodbye. Yes, they have a seperate retirement fund like many jobs do that they pay into but how fair is it to pay the tax and not get your due?
Ok, stopping now or I will go into a very long rant about how teachers get the shaft.
