What did you think about this couple's transformation?

I liked the Erik & Khadijah episode and think they looked really great but I didn't feel that inspired by it. To me, they weren't that bad off in any aspect of their lives. Bravo should have looked for a couple who were more overweight and maybe a little less well-off. It was nice to see their transformation but I think there are many more people out there in more dire straights when it comes to there physical appearance and health as well as financial situation. It would have been more dramatic and uplifting to see a couple who were in greater need of assistance receive the help and all those gifts.
Just my opinion.

I really do not agree with DawnNy. I think the couple did a great job. They were a great inspiration for me. I love the gym. I just wish I could get in contact with them so I could talk to them personally. If you can do that for me? Please. Thank you!!! Erik and Khadijah get a hold of me.

I have very mixed feelings about this episode. On one hand, its great that this couple was able to lose so much weight. However, I would've appreciated more...practical ideas about how to get in shape. Not everyone can afford gym memberships, weekly meetings with a nutritionist, salsa dancing lessons, etc. And most of us don't have five gay guys to give all the free stuff to make weight loss that much easier.
I guess I was hoping they'd give advice that eveyrone, regardless of their budget or lifestyle, can apply to lose weight. This episode, I saw a whole lot of free stuff and not much else. And that seems to be a very fundamental difference between the early seasons of QE and more recent ones. In the early days, sure they gave the straight guy free stuff, but they also showed them HOW to do things and WHY it's important. They offered advice that anyone could use regardless of their budget. You really felt like the straight guy was learning something he can use. Now it seems like the episodes are mainly just about showering their subject with all kinds of free stuff, and in some cases I highly doubt the subjects would keep up with the make over.

Excellent points, MidniteBlue. I really did like this episode, and liked the focus on losing weight and getting fit - that's a nice twist and I find it MUCH more interesting than the wedding ones. It was different, but in a good way. But you're right about the practicality. It was difficult for Erik and Khadijah, at least at first, to stick with it even WITH their own trainers and nutritionist. I'd also like to see advice for people who are doing it on their own, who don't have a limitless supply of money to spend. Which would be most of us. Because it's not impossible at all to lose weight and get fit without spending tons of money and having your own trainer and nutritionist. I'm sure it helps, but real people can do it too.
I agree about the free stuff, too. The free stuff is great but it seems WAY over the top on the recent ones. It's all stuff and not so much practical advice.

I thought Erik and Khadijah were a great choice for this episode. I think gaining 40 pounds each in a year qualifies you as being in dire straits. I was actually surprised they hadn't gained MORE, given the way they ate and apparently didn't get any exercise at all! And if they'd had more than that to lose, doing it in six months would not have been healthy. I liked how they picked a couple with realistic goals. Picking someone who needed to lose twice the weight and having them do it in six months might have been dramatic, but it would also have been very unhealthy and probably impossible to maintain. Erik and Khadijah were learning how to live a thinner lifestyle - although admittedly they were getting a WHOLE lot of help via nutritionists and personal trainers and dance lessons that most of us could never afford.

Alot of information was given out....joining health clubs, dance studios. I think they were giving ideas as to different ways one can lose weight. Darn, if I don't give the couple credit going on national tv letting the public know their measurements etc. ...that takes a certain amount of guts....as for the freebies..some were to encourage them to continue....new clothes for all their hard work, a get away they never got around to and of course the wonderful job Thom always does..its darn hard to lose and maintain weight....I know!!! I'm forever working on the losing part.... these weight lose segments are going to be very interesting especially if the guys reveal some of their weight loss secrets or how to maintain...Thom did offer a small insight ..if he is over hungry he will grab anything...if that is not a true statement....

They had WAY more nerve than I would have, that's for sure. And I think one of my own worst habits is getting way too hungry, then grabbing whatever I can get my hands on. I'll think I'm too busy to eat, then before I realize it I'm famished, and I'm scarfing down whatever I can grab. Then I'm not satisfied, and I want to find something ELSE. I hate when that happens.

Comparing this episode with Ron's the week before, this was much more to my liking. I was especially interested in seeing an episode thta took a long term view. Rather than spending "1 day" making over a man this was a 6 month project. I think that more likely spells success.
I was interested in Joni's comments about her and Ron's episode because I had similar mixed feelings--it was one of the most sexually focused episodes in a long time and while I'm not prudish, I felt it was over the top in trying to solve all the couple's "problems" with sex.
This episode (Eric & Khadijah) looked at the whole person, took into account their interests (dancing) and when it appeared that the two of them were making less than wise food choices, got them back on track.
As always the guys did great things within each of their realms of expertise. I particularly liked Carson taking the friends to choose clothing.
Nice episode and it gives me hope for the next 3 (or more?) with this theme.

I'm wondering if anyone knows the couple's last name (or initial). I believe Erik is a friend I have been trying to find for a few years. I haven't seen him since 1997, but at that time he was a stock broker working in lower Manhattan. I moved away and we lost touch. I missed the first half of the show. Did they say what type of work he does, does he have children (a daughter), not with his wife? The guy on the show looks and sounds very much like my lost friend. Any help is appreciated.

I loved the show. I thought the couple was very likeable. And anyone that works/diets knows, losing that kind of weight and looking that great after 6 months is alot of hard work, and I don't care how many helpers you have. YOU are the one that ultimately does the work and shows up. I too could have done without the gifts (think product placement and you know why there are soo many gifts.) Anyway, they truly deserved it. They looked like completely different folks. I surely hope they keep it up. I love that Khadijah was happy to get another year at Equinox, shows that she has made a fundamental life style change and that is what is really needed to keep the weight off long after Queer Eye is but a memory. Congrats again.

I have know Erik for over 6 years and I also lost touch with him after he left our company.
This is the best I've ever seen him and his wife is GLOWING. I met her once earlier this year and they're really a wonderful couple. When i saw the episode and how much weight both of them lost I became inspired. I just joined a gym and started my diet earlier this week and am also about 45lbs overweight with a BMI of 31 [obese just like Erik was]. When I saw how great they looked I imagined myself losing that weight and gaining that muscle definition I felt really good about my goals because i know now it can be acheieved because someone else did it. Someonelse lost 43lbs. I think the key was the food journal because even if you try the excercise and think you're doing good with the meals you won't know for sure unless it's all on paper and you add up the calories. Then you like "oh, that's why...I'm eating too much calories/carbs". It was a great show!
If anyone can get in touch with him, please have him contact his old friends at Citicorp Investment Services at 212-820-1985. Thanks!

thank you Naomi! This is my long lost friend. It's amazing because after not seeing or talking to him in 10 years, I didn't recognize him at the beginning of the show. He was always slim and had a bald head when we were friends. But his voice and facial expressions were still the same. So at the reveal -- it reaffirmmed for me that this was indeed Erik! It's great to see good people doing and receiving good things. I don't know his wife, but she makes him glow and that's good enough for me!

I think anyone with a weight issue that can reach their goal should be commended and to do it on TV THAT TAKES GUTS. I hope they keep up the good work and I look forward to the next 3 shows
