It's the idea that that's how you're going to live your life.
I went into rehab the next day. I've fallen off the wagon a few times but I pick myself up and try all over again. If Drew hadn't come along I would be dead by now, I've suffered through a series of five heart attacks in 2004, which I'm sure my former use had something to do with, and I just got a bill of clean health after a battle with prostate cancer. He was there the whole time.
We are now in a house about two blocks away from where Ron and I lived and loved. We have three dogs and are extremely happy but I'll never forget where I've been. I guess this is why I have so much empathy for those that have gone through what I have.
The Bear has spoken. Any questions?
I think I am mostly outraged at the damage young people do to themselves so thoughtlessly. I once read a novel where someone was able to poison the illegal drug supply coming into this country. The idea was that drugs would instantly kill people (instead of slowly killing people) and therefore everyone would swear off illegal drugs. Naturally this was stopped by our hero but I thought the idea was thought provoking, at the least! Don't jump all over me, I am not advocating such a thing. But we wouldn't have all this illegal drug traffic if there was not a market for it.

Any kind of car is always fun in the beginning, don't you think? It's clean and has that new-car-smell! I, for one, am terrible at keeping my cars clean...I tend to just fill them up with stuff!! And straw wrappers, loose change, napkins, crumbs just seem to litter the floor - I am a true car pig!

Hi I am new to this board but not to the show. I just viewed this episod on Sunday 8/27.
I am appalled that Jeffrey was not called out on his behavior on this show. How dare he treat any woman, mother or customer the way he treated Angela's mother.
1. There is know way my mother would have stood by and let me get away with the crap he pulled.
2. Angela's mother did not try to sabotage him, Tim asked her for her opinion, it just so happened that Tim decided not to wait for Jeffrey to return to the table.
3. Jeffrey might have been right about not having time to finish a tailored jacket, but he could have been a little more considerate of her.
4. I am totally dissappointed that Tim nor Heidi address this issue with Jeffrey.
5. Jeffrey might have been right about Angela's Mother Self esteem...however, most plus size women have issues with their weight. As a designer for the everyday woman, Jeffrey should had been mindful of this and kept his opinion to himself.
I know they are probably keeping Jeffrey around for the drama, however, I think his attitude sucks!!!! Mean and ugly right words to describe his behavior.

Dc,
I admire your strength and your ability to share your past with us, a group of nameless and faceless strangers. You allowed us to "see" a side of you most would normally bury in the past. Thank you.
I myself have not had to fight addiction, other then a 3 month stint in my youth with too much booze that I dont remember a day of, so I know how lucky I am. One of the reasons Ive never tried a drug in my life is Ive had both family and friends who were addicts. Sadly, one of those people was my late brother. He was the oldest in the family and he struggled with addiction for over half his life. Whats really sad is other then about the first 13 years of his life, the only clean and sober time he had was his last 3 months on earth. He fought hard to get clean and I will always be proud of him.
One thing I cant stand about Jeffery is something my late brother used to do. He blamed everyone else for everything bad in his life. It didnt matter If he was given the incorrect change,if he didnt have gas money, the waitress forgot to leave off the mayo, everything was someone elses fault. It takes a strength beyond words to admit your to blame for your mistakes.
I had no idea Jeffery is a recovering addict, was is not the correct word to use, once an addict always an addict. As you said, you have to fight the urge everyday. I didnt base my opinions of Jefferys behavior on his addictions or tats. As I said, I love tats. My late brother was a tattoo artist for years and did amazing work. I almost think his work was best when he was stoned. Almost as if it fueled his creativity. Maybe thats one thing that took him so long to get clean. He was afraid to lose any talent or skills he felt that made him who he was.
Jeffery must be a nice person at times for Robert and several others to talk as highly of him as they do. He throws "tantrums" it seems if he becomes frustrated or angry. Not good. I do not care for his designs but thats just me. He has a successful business and knows he has skills but that chip on his shoulder must get heavy at times. I am a huge supporter of counseling and if Jeffery hasnt already done so maybe that would help him with his anger issues.
I applaud Jeffery, you and anyone else who has fault an addiction. Yall are stronger then I will ever be. Drew sounds as if were too good to be true. You are blessed to have him in your life. I understand the guilt and pain over the last words you had with your late husband. I hope youve forgiven yourself. I cant take back the last words I said to my brother either and it will be 11 years this Oct. he passed and I still hear the words as if I just spoke them.
Iam thankful you shared your story and wish you all the best,
brillke

Ya'll cracked me up talking earlier about Austin starting to look trashy! It's looked trashy since the late70's/early 80's when the development made north Austin look like Dallas and south Austin look like Houston. lol
It's my hometown, I love it, I don't mind making fun of it, but don't get me started on the roads/transportation issues!
((For those of you in other places, next year Austin will "convert" a 50 year old , federally funded, existant hiway into a toll road. I live less than a mile from this (major)road, and Austin is the only place in the state that these "conversions" are taking place. Only place in the whole country, I think.)

I lived in Kansas for a few years, my opinion of Kansas...it is like a tunnel, one end is located in Kansas City while the other end of the tunnel opens up into Denver. Boring, yes it is flat. There is a sign in Kansas that says SKI KANSAS, the picture that is the background shows a very flat section of land and a ski slide coming down from the top of a windmill. There also is another sign that appears when you leave Kansas and enter Oklahoma that says, you are leaving Kansas and entering Oklahoma, state of the wagon train drop outs.

Ok, so I must defend....Yes, Kansas is flat! But where I live is consistenly in the top 10 places to live in the US -- based on property values, school systems, roads, people, etc.
What people pay for 'homes' in NYC is beyond me -- for one, what a New Yorker calls a house is what I call an apartment!! A house is a free standing structure sitting on land that you own!! I have a $700k house -- it's 2 stories, five bedrooms, 4 full baths, gourmet kitchen, and sits on an acre of land. You wouldn't get anything near the size of my lot, nor the size of my house for $700k in NYC, LA, Miami, Chicago, Dallas, etc! I am in a suburb just a few minutes away from Kansas City but get to call Kansas my home and can't imagine living anywhere else!
And besides, with Macy's buying up every known store, I won't be feeling so left out of the fashion world anymore! Why fly to Chicago or Dallas or New York to shop, when we've got several Macy's taking over here?!? LOL

I agree that picking women off the street would have been a better idea. I also think it would have been interesting to have all full-figured women. There are plenty of full-figured models in New York, and the show could have used some for this episode. That way, it would be an "even playing field" for the designers.
If Jeffrey was nasty to the mother of someone who was right in the room, just think how awful he'd have been to a complete stranger. It would have been cool to watch though.

OT...
I actually read about this project before...very smart...I like things like this. Sevral years ago an artist came to a local university with his photgraphy exhibit that was all naked pictures of real women. He displayed them from infant to elderly. They were all women he had met and valued their stories (breast cancer survivor, cutter, a 70 year old woman who had breast enhancemants and was now embarassed about how they looked) He posted their story under the pictures...it was ongoing too. He said he was always on the look out for new faces...truely interesting. It takes about half-way through the exhibit to feel comfortable with what you're looking at. I don't know why that website reminding me of that...

Bravo chose to allow us the see and hear the controversy so who is ultimately responsible for any humiliation any Mom or sister experienced? I think it was the person at PR responsible for allowing this to be viewed on national television. ""Hey, this is good TV, let's humiliate some plus-size Moms, let's don't tell them that they will be models for some strange designers, make it a one day challenge, throw them to the lions so to speak and see who gets eaten?? munch, munch, This is way Kooool! An ole lady's crying, Jeffrey's cussing, Angela's postering, yeah way Kool...I can see our Emmy now! Wahoo!, o and be sure to get Heidi to ask Angela about what she thinks about her Mom's outfit so she can "be honest" and tell her to describe her Mom as 'embarrassing'on national TV. And then we can post a "Who's right or Who's wrong poll for those viewers who just don't get the draaammmmaa and who need a little public validation to make up their minds?""
Comeon guys, everyone is so busy taking sides, the real villian (Bravo PR)escapes unscathed for creating this colossal mistake.
What could have been a learning and rewarding experience for all turned into "As the Stomach Turns"...............Just my opinion

Believe it or not, I actually learned to ski in Kansas. I kid you not. Mount Blue, just outside Lawrence, KS (home of KU, which occupies most of Mt. Oread). Mount Blue was 1500' -- more of a big steep hill, really -- but they had a nice lodge, two lifts, and ski lessons.

I couldn't agree more...no matter how bad the behavior, what we see is all editing...Bravo could have chosen to show the designers who did get along with their 'clients' and had good rapport. Instead, they chose to highlight the nastiness which doesn't paint anyone in a good light. Even when they were passing around the childhood photos, they focused on showing Kayne's -- which was embarrassing to him. Angela's mother, when interviewed, said Bravo asked them to bring embarrassing childhood photos -- not just regular photos.
And blindsighting the moms/sisters? That's just in poor taste - what if one of them would have refused? Vincent's sister was obviously uncomfortable in being there and being a model - it should have been voluntary -- like Kayne's mom- she wanted to walk the runway so good for her! But for those that didn't want to participate, then Bravo should have provided models appropriate to the challenge. Honestly, if this challenge were about the 'everyday woman', then Bravo could have used models; they chose to use family members to light some fires.
Really disgusted with Bravo and its producers. As a matter of fact, I think I will boycott the sponsors. I don't think boycotting the show itself works (who would really do it anyway?). But you can send a message by not patronizing the sponsors of the show. Hmmm... that's who we should be writing to -- not Bravo --- but to Loreal, Tres Semme, Saturn, Macy's, etc. What do you think?

For two seasons I have wondered why the designers were not asked to design for women other than perfectly figured models. I now know the answer. This last challenge proved what many of us with less than perfect figures already knew: designers dislike the larger ladies. Notice how the designers chose their 'models' - the slimmer ladies were snapped up first and the larger ladies were left for last. Those who designed for the plus sized ladies, with the exception of Uli, showed no concept of how to flatter the figure, elongate the body line or fool the eye. Just give 'em a sack! The designers for the slimmer ladies were not challenged much at all. Yes, they were not young (except Rbt's sister) and maybe had a few figure flaws, but it was really not much of a stretch. Vincent's dress was nice, but not outstanding. Michael's dress was plain but interesting, Laura was off her game, Angela's outfit was odd but intriguing. Uli did a great job! and should have won. Jeffrey vented his anger at Angela onto her mother, who maybe went a bit overboard on the drama. None-the-less, I thought he was beyond rude and his designer 'sack' was not fit for much other than polishing her car. Robert's dress was pretty much what plus sized ladies come to expect - no one much cares to design for them and they are stuck with this low level of design (at least better than Jeffrey's). Kayne did a nice job. I don't agree with the judges here, except for the scarf- thing. It was pretty, but gave her a squared look. So, in all, it looks as if the vast number of designers have no concept of how to design to flatter a variety of shapes and sizes and are limited to their tall, slim models. (If Allison's model during the recycle challenge was, in Tim's opinion, "zaftig", there is no hope for the rest of us. Sigh....

You comment that Dallas and Houston are full of Yankees. DO WE YANKEES smell?
LOL
Like you said you live close to KCK or KCMO. I lived close to the center of the lower 48. It was like living in the tunnel. I had to drive 3 to 4 hours to see a building over 3 stories. I loved KCK and KCMO. Just can not understand why 4 counties needed to be involved there. If you love Kansas that is great. What I said really did not have to be defended or attacked, it is my personal opinion. If you agree with me fine, if you do not agree with me fine, it really is not important to me or to you. The differences in the United States from area to area are what make the United States great.

Agree...it's people that make a difference. Sorry if you felt I was personally attacking you...that surely was not my intention! I just wanted to be informative....most people when they think of Kansas, they think of either cows or the wizard of oz!! Do we have cows? Of course....many states do! And, yes, Dorothy was from Kansas. But there is more to kansas than dorothy or the cows!! That being said, I don't think I would care to live in the 'sticks'...whether it be in the middle of Kansas, or Montana, or Wyoming, or Kentucky, or Idaho, or....you get the idea! Anyway, sorry if I offended....really, really didn't mean to!!

Another great website is postsecret.blogspot.com. They post anonymous postcards from people sending in secrets. It's a very cool website, they post every Sunday. I encourage all to check out this amazing site, they're doing a good thing. Anyway, the second postcard this week features Stacey and Clinton from "What Not to Wear"!! Too funny!
Love your posts, my husband doesn't know why we had Boca burgers last Wed.

Hi Damselfly,
Your story reminds me of a photographer friend who lived in Dallas many years ago. He was one of the original Victoria's Secret photographers; had many other high-profile clients, and loved taking pictures of real women. He said they were far more interesting and beautiful for him to photograph than most of the models he worked with. One of my favorites was 4 generations of big, beautiful, happy, naked women, grandmother, mother, daughter, and baby girl.
My family has always been pretty comfortable with nudity, I think I would have loved to have seen this exhibit.

Cheers!
Lana (born in Fort Scott, KS, but lived in Kansas City most of my formative years)
I learned to ski in Iron Mountain, Michigan. Not the flatlands but the hillylands of northern Michigan.

Wow! You got all that from 5 minutes of videotape?? I think you need to take a moment and realize the manipulation that goes on with editing.
While I will give you credit for your definition of the passive/aggressive personality, I think you may be rushing to judgment regarding Angela's mother. I have been trained in testing and assessment in a research setting (I have an M.A. degree in psychology and am furthering my education for licensure as a school psychologist), and one thing I've learned is not to stereotype or label individuals too quickly. Wouldn't you agree that Jeffrey (who has been portrayed to have an abrasive personality) may have gone in to this challenge with a negative and paranoid attitude? He made some comment about God getting drunk and that's how he got Angela's mom. He was agitated when saw Darlene and Tim speaking even before he knew what they were discussing. It was a bad match, and it wasn't helped by Jeff's nasty and disrepectful comments, or by Angela adding fuel to the fire. While watching, I couldn't help but wonder what would have happened if Vincent got Angela's mom instead. They have their differences, but I think Vincent has a more professional and mature demeanor. That, IMHO, is the key. Jeffrey's uncalled for comments and total disrespect was uncalled for. I don't care who they were directed at--mother, father, coworker, or stranger in a grocery store! AND I was saddened and amazed at the number of posters who felt he was justified. I guess rudeness and a confrontational attitude seems to prevail. Jeffrey should learn a lesson from Michael (my fave)--a true gentleman if there ever was one.
This is my first post, and I apologize for being so long winded! I've been reading these since Season 1, and decided to jump in.
BTW--I have been completely bitten by the PR bug, and wanted to send a hello to you all especially to Brillke, MissOtis, Food_Pro, and patsyintexas. Your excellent posts have given me many a chuckle!
Carry on!

Hello Parnell,
I totally agree about the most flattering lengths; just above or just below the knee. I want to clarify my opinion about this outfit. I think the pants are a solid design idea, yes, they need to be a little shorter, but would be easy to alter. I have more problems with the design of the top. I think you would have to change some of the design elements to "make it work". Overall, I wanted to like this outft more than I did. P.S. I was kidding about tall folks<grin>
Hey again, Art Inst. (can I call you AI? )-
No worries. I'm right there with ya about Kayne's outfit. I really wanted to like it more than I did, and with some alterations, I think I would have. It was close.
And, btw, I'm not tall by any stretch of the imagination. (Most of my friends are 5'8" to 6' and I look positively shrimpy next to them.) And I hate that I'm not "supposed" to wear capris, especially when they are in season, but I realize that if I do wear them, I'm making my legs look even shorter. Truth is, I know I'm breaking the rules, but I do it every now and again.

I come from a father who didn't even like us to see his bare feet let alone any other parts. I'm actually the surprised how comfortable I am with it...I have a husband who would spend the day in his undies if it didn't mean he had to stay inside. The exhibit was such an amazing display of comfort and self love that it was truly the opposite of this weeks episode where, ironically, they took an exerience that is usually comforting and delightful; visiting with relatives, and made it horrifically uncomfortable for everyone involved...designers didn't know what do with larger women and mom's having others make dresses fr them without truely understand their comfort zones...crazy...

"The clothes we put on our bodies are not simply to cover them up, like what our guys did this week, but to be an expression of who we are. Clothes make the lady, no matter what size she may be."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I find this sentiment beautiful. As a beautiful, intelligent, confident and happy lady, who also happens to be a "plus" size, this speaks to me!
(I know I'm way behind on the boards, but I'm trying to catch up!).

I agree with you. Jeffrey was unnecessarily rude. As for Michael, I read on a website called "Blogging Project Runway" that both Kayne and Angela's moms were impressed with Michael and both called him a gentleman. My hope is that the final three are NOT Jeffrey, Vincent, and Angela (for the sake of DRAMA).

Hi Damselfly,
I enjoy your posts so much. It's weird how opposite our experiences with our fathers are. My dad taught school, and I have memories of the first thing my dad wanting to to when he got home: Change into something comfy, usually shorts. To be fair, he started teaching when male teachers had to wear jackets and ties. Yeah, teaching Industrial Arts in a tie!
