Catching any of the US Open?
I watched the McEnroe match the other night, it ran sooooo late. I don't think he plays until tomorrow so I will watch that.
You want to know about a long match, it took place in St. Louis at the Checkerdome between Matts Vilander of Sweden vs John McEnroe of the United States. It started at around 4 in the afternoon and at 12 midnight they were still going at it. McEnroe finally won the match after I had left the marathon, drove home, and went to bed.

Just some thoughts.....What if Robert had the chance to design for a Barbie Challenge...what would it look like and would he win? What if Jeffery was a designer in season 1 PR with Wendy? I believe he would be a hero on the show being able to handle her and putting her in her place. There goes for my wish more fashion... less drama
Last thought before the show.... Jeffery actually could be Macy's material since he has a company and the NY Macy has boutiques within. The cash money would go to good use to someone already established.

I forgot about that one, I remember calling out for food for dinner, we didn't have tv in the kitchen then. I was so exhausted after that I couldn't imagine how the players were not out cold.

Azucena -- Do you feel like a cyber dinosaur? lol I know that some of the members of Quilt Art, my main on-line list, go back to the Compuserve days and might know you from then -- mainly Judy Smith who founded Quilt Art and maybe some others.
What sort of needlework do you (or did you ) do? As you can tell, I am a quilter -- with aspirations to be more innovative than traditional. Some bits of embroidery and beading sneak into my quilts but there are a lot of techniques I haven't done much with as yet.
I used to make clothing so I wish that PR would show more of the craft and less of the drama! I'd love to know of the 'whys' of the designers' fabric choices and 'hows' of developing a pattern. There is enough interpersonal conflict on other shows to keep things stirred up and this one has the potential to be so much more. Oh well -- we can wish at least...
Dinosaur? You betcha! LOL!! I started working with computers as a programmer in 1970. Got my first home computer -- an Apple ][ -- in 1978, and joined The Source, one of the first online networks outside of the Internet, in 1980. They were bought out by Compuserve in 1981, so that's how I ended up on CS. They charged by the hour (very expensive, too -- 300 baud was $6.00/hr; the fastest speed was 1200 baud). Who knew that 25 years later, this is what we'd have? LOL!
In terms of needlework, I was mostly into lace crochet -- not the ponchos and afghans type, but the kind done with thread and a tiny hook. Never got into quilts, although my grandmother certainly did (I still have one of her "Sunbonnet Sue" quilts). On CS, I was on the Cooks Online forum, and a sysop for the Programmers Forum as well as HSX (that's the one I referred to in the last post). I was also fairly active in "CB" -- the early version of "chat rooms" that was extremely popular on CompuServe.
I used to make all my own clothes -- I was always too tall for most off-the-rack stuff (I was 5'7" at age 13, and 5'10" when I graduated high school), and very thin. I wasn't anorexic at all -- I ate like a horse -- but I was always thin until I quit smoking at age 41. So making my own clothes was the only way I could get things to fit. I also used to design and make clothes for Barbie dolls -- mine as well as my friends. It was a good way to make some extra spending money when you're only 9 yrs old.
These days, I'm kinda busy with school, but I've gotten into making hand-made greeting cards. I love playing with color and texture. I'll probably try quilting someday -- for that very reason (color and texture).
I'm totally with you re: PR. I started watching at the beginning of season 1 in order to learn more about HOW design works -- how do you make a pattern? what makes *this* garment's draping better than *that* garment's draping? What thought processes does a designer go through when working out color/pattern/texture/material? Unfortunately, we see very little of that, and more of the drama than I would like. Oh well -- I'm hooked. What can I say?

I would be extremely disappointed if it was Laura or Michael to go...then again, what if one of the designers surprised us all by asking to go home? Like pregnant Laura? She's proved herself worthy IMO and it's not like she needs the money!! But maybe it's Kayne...he's one of my faves but his designs haven't really been top notch IMO lately. So I could see it being him. Which would be too bad since I enjoy him as both a designer and a person.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm hoping Laura hangs in there for as long as possible. I don't think the pregnancy should be affecting her abilities on the show. This is nothing new to her at this point in her life, and the show is taped in 32 days, so I don't think she'd ask to go home. Architects are subjected to stress and deadlines all the time... Hope that Michael, Laura and Uli make it to the finals...

I have started searching the internet for online sewing classes, and joined the Sewing Guild. I am rusty about sewing my own clothes. I still love it, but now I would like to take the time to do it right. We have the Savannah Institute of Art and Design here in town but I don't quite want to go into that much detail plus I am not that good. Still want to turn out my own gorgeous outfits, though. When did they say that 2 popular designers would leave? Could they have been referring to Alison and Robert? That would make sense. If it has been since Alison was auf'd, let's hope it is Jeff. I know he's popular with some, but I don't care for his aesthetic.
BTW, I posted way earlier, I think both Jeffrey and Darlene were at fault, with the majority going to her. She asked for dark purple and dark green, then turned around and said she didn't wear matronly colors? Huh? Besides, Darlene, hon? You are an over 50 yr old mom-that's a matron! (actually a married woman is a matron, so, there you have it. Nothing whatsoever to do with dowdy or old) However, Jeff, you need to take a chill pill (I know he's a recovering addict, so "chill pill" means anything that calms him down-maybe Alison's anti-stress cream or yoga? LOL) He just went off from the get-go over a PERCEIVED insult/underhanded behavior. He needs to get over himself. (I DO think Angela and her mom set him up-just my 2 cents-and probably not worth that!)

I want that story on moving cats! I used to have a cat (Mama has him now, my oldest daughter was allergic to cats.) He is 16 yrs old now and I was told by a couple of vets that he was the meanest cat they ever met! Anyway, have you ever seen the thing on giving a cat a pill? Hi, everybody! Yes, I actually took a few extra days in Pittsburgh. Not a very glam city compared to NYC, but it does have some stunning things, like St. Paul's Cathedral (OMG, St. Patricks in NYC and Notre Dame in Paris, meet your match). Also went to this totally awesome place called the "Church Beer Works," a micro brewery built in a former cathedral with the legend "And on the eighth day, God made beer!". Very cool to see the stained glass windows above and the steel brewery tanks below in the nave. Fabu beer and the best perogies I've ever had!
Am still lost back in the posts (gave up at page 89 and am now reading backwards and have gotten to page 240. May have to catch up on the middle some other day), so I'm not really in the current conversation. Starting with tomight's episode board, however, I will be.

Yep, I've read that, and my experience with the move is very similar. We'll all recovering nicely, thank you. In another week or so, we should all be fully recovered. :-) I managed to avoid stitches, barely. The cats fared much better -- they were just PO'd, and they're gradually warming up to the new digs, so all is well. Let's just say I seriously underestimated the strength and resolve of two 4-yr-old Devon Rex cats (avg. weight: 7 lbs each)

Fashion is about feeling good and liking the way you look. The judges may know how to do magazines, but I don't know if they really understand dressing a full figured or regular woman. The black tank dress with the red poncho was absolutely something I might buy and wear. It may not have been exciting to the magazines, but I would have been happy with it.
The guy with the tattoos on his neck treats other people poorly. He was an ABSOLUTE ASS. He almost had ME in tears listening to how he was speaking to Angela's mom. His disgust with a real female body was evident before he came up with the idea that she was trying to cut down his design. Get over the paranoia and learn some customer service skills! What a creep.

How would you feel HEIDI, TIM, MICHAEL, NINA if he talk that way about your Mother......
Maybe Jeffrey need to grow up...so he has come along way from where he was...(with drugs and such) that no excuse for bad manners. How dare his Mother make excuses for him...did she not hear how disrespectful he has been.

I am SO glad Jeffery didn't get voted off for that dress...I completely understand where he was coming from...totally agree that it was a set up. It seemed as though the trick was in the meeting with Tim and Angela's Mom. I thought it was strange that she was gutting into the dress as he was assembling it....could any of her comments have been made during the sketching of the dress? ...Not while Tim is standing there...less Jeff be away from the table...aspects of the dress were certainly questionable...but given what Jeff had to work with... Jeff did everything he could to do his job, that wouldn't be easy if your client is lurking around. I don't see the models lurking over them during assembly ....why were the relatives able to do that? I mean wouldn' that bug you if you were trying to create something for someone...who had no communication to begin with...only to find, while you are away from your desk...your client is talking to your mentor about how much she hates it....and you haven't even completed it yet? It is an ironic thing that he happened to get Angela's Mom, but he excepted it with as much honor as he could come up with.
You could tell Angela was in full actress mode when she said "this is the worst thing that could happen..." Please...it was set up. I don't buy the tears from her mother either...

Haven't been watching this regularly so only saw this episode on a repeat. One thing stood out as being squirrelly - the comments about Michael's dress.
Okay, his model had a great figure, but that aside his dress was superb, fantastic, amazing and something an everyday woman (me) would jump at buying! But it got a lukewarm response from the judges until he said it was reversible? Huh? I really don't understand. And Michael one-suit Kors said something about the belt? There was nothing wrong with the belt - it was just tied in a fanciful and unique way. Hello? Isn't that what the show is about? And the belt could always be tied in a more classic fashion. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid, Michael. Knock off the ridiculous, snide comments. They make you look like an egotistical, insecure jack a##. This brings me to ... Heidi.
Heidi I'm concerned about. If you put together the outfits she chooses to wear on this show, her obsession with calling things "cheap looking" (which is amusing given her penchant for wearing tacky Halloween costumes that are sold at Wal-Mart - sold last season I might add), the fact that she continually wears colors that wash her out (that teal was HORRIBLE on her! Could she have selected a more horrid color for her complexion?) and the fact she can't seem to actually add anything of value to any discussion of fashion, it leads me to believe:
1. She has no taste
2. She should go back to just being a model and hosting the show and have no vote
3. That beautiful women have no idea about real fashion because they basically can get away with wearing anything whereas women like me NEED good fashion to make them look passable and not scare the children.
It just bothers me greatly that someone that whips up a dress like this is given this type of nonsense commentary that has nothing to do with reality. Plus it was sewn impeccably - the fit was perfect and the black on the outside was slimming making the design solid.
Michael, keep your eye on the prize. The judges appear to be having hallucinatory problems stemming from the ingesting of MSG at lunch.

Being a large women myself , I thought Uli was the only one that really tried to fit the clients body type and personallity, afterall Jeffrey didn't even know what his model did for a living. Even the judges felt that we larger women want slender legged pants. NOWAY they make us look like topps. I would buy Uli's outfit!

It's amazing that in this world of imperfect figures and an epidemic of obesity that designers think that only skinny people will wear their designs. Maybe it is easier for them to make, but guess who has the $$$. If a designer I was paying acted and treated me as Jeffery did I would fire him on the spot! He should be ashamed to send an outfit down the runway that looked that awful. I think he is back on drugs!

Sorry it's taken sooooo long to get back....homecoming season.....can't even SEE the floor of my workroom! LOL Anyway...thank you. I would like to see all the grassroots designers out there put in their two cents. This show is prejudiced towards the formally trained designers which puts those without a Parson's equivalent education to a massive disadvantage. I would never be even slightly interested....too old and way too happy away from big cities. But....I know many out there who would be interested and can out-design anything I've seen yet on this program.....on any season....with only a few exceptions. Here is an auction link to a children's clothing designer who could make mincemeat out of this group.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...DME:B:FSEL:US:1I've watched this woman make the most incredible pieces for several years. SHE is a true designer in every sense of the word.

I've been tempted to contact a couple of these women and ask them if I can make-up for the horrible outfits they ended up with by making them something flattering. Robert and the '[expletive deleted]' (sorry...can't remember his name...just his personality and too lazy to look it up :-o ) were clearly out of their element as most fashion designers are. It's great to fit a fabulous figure, but most of America is NOT the perfect figure according to societies enanity....((((stepping off soapbox....sorry...don't know how I got there)))).....where was I ---- oh ya, but the true test of a designer's scope is making everyone look and feel their best...even we larger gals. My biggest complaint about fashion today is that it rarely fits the masses....not the fabrics, style, wearability, function or fit. Most people can't afford the high designer cost and if they're buying anywhere else....the stuff is made over seas and doesn't fit right no matter how much altering you do. HINT HINT HINT....AMERICAN WOMEN HAVE BREASTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unlike the women in the countries where the majority of clothing products sold in the U.S. are made.
