The game is on! Will Practice make perfect for Steve or Michael? Does Bobby have the recipe for success? Or will Kathy and Mimi prove it's ladies' night? Watch and see...and then share your thoughts here! [Spoilers allowed.]

This was the first game of the series I've ever turned off. Who were these
people? These are celebrities? Very
boring people and game. I gave up
after 45 minutes and then watched
the last ten or fifteen hoping at
least Mimi Rogers might win. The
championship game is shaping up
way too low key and lame except
for David Cross. This was the only game I won't watch in reruns. Even
Phil and Dave seemed bored. Maybe
each game needs a villain. Or at
least some ability and lots of humor. This was just a boring, little,
"civil" game. Terrible.

Yea, pretty hard to say much about this game. Long and not much action. I didn't know one person in the game, except for Mimi. Celebrities? Very poorly played, I wonder where all the idiot remarks were from Phil.

I liked the game. Kathy was funny. The two strongest players went head to head. And Michael cried! I'll watch this again 'cos
1) There's not much else I like watching
2) I just love Texas hole 'em!
Keep 'em coming Bravo!

Although the celebrities weren't as entertaining, this round showed a lot of different elements (good and bad) of No Limit Hold Em. Flay was your typical overly aggressive player, taking a stab at almost every pot (at least the ones we saw) and getting knocked down every time someone else actually had a hand. Badalucco, on the flip side, was way too conservative and made the mistake of just calling bets when he had a great hand. In those cases you need to smoke out draws by raising a sizeable amount. Also, as Phil pointed out, on one hand Kathy gave one of the biggest tells out there of leaning back into her seat when she had a strong hand.
I heard that this game went until about 3 a.m. when they taped this. So that's why everyone was pretty much dead to the world by the end of the game. And that's why Dave was making cracks such as Mimi needing her walker if this game goes on any longer.
Both Mimi and Steve played great games. She played conservative early so she could learn about her opponents and stay out of the way of trouble when the blinds were low. Then she stepped it up when she started hitting hands, but unfortunately she just ended up with lousy cards when the blinds got crazy high. And Steve showed either big balls or a good read on Mimi when he called her last all-in with q-3 suited. Also, he got hosed on the one silly draw by Kathy, but fortunately things still worked out for him in the end.
So the poker was interesting to watch, but I'd agree that apart from Kathy the celebrity action was pretty dull. Next week's round should help make up for it with 4 comedians on the bill. Jeffrey Ross' comedy has a little bite to it, but as long as you aren't too overly sensitive to crude remarks, then you'll get a good laugh. (but it also depends on how much of his commentary Bravo is willing to air)

>>>Flay was your typical overly aggressive player, taking a stab at almost every pot <<<
That's what Phil's little booklet recommends you do! He was just following it to the letter. Remember, Phil likes aggressive players and his booklet seems to lean towards that.
(I remember Coolio playing the same way in season 1. Getting knocked out and saying "I did exactly what the book said.")
>>>Also, as Phil pointed out, on one hand Kathy gave one of the biggest tells out there of leaning back into her seat when she had a strong hand.<<<
I think Mimi hit the nail on the head perfectly when she said "You can never tell if Kathy has a good hand." Kathy was all over the place.
I understand that some games are not going to be as 'entertaining' as others, and I'm dealing with that. As CPS continues more celebrities are going to be tightening up a lot more. I think once the 'losers' watch a tape of the show they're going to want to return and play better.
But then again... a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing! e.g. If Kathy knew more about the game would she have got so far?
Great post! I really enjoyed reading it. :-)
