EW: Among the designers who are left on the show, which one do you think is worthy of winning?
Vincent: Myself. I love the truth, and I'll say this: If you look at the show and you know anything about design, you can see clearly who the designer was. They are amateurs. This show is full of amateur designers. I think one was way, way above and alone on the show. But I don't do the ego thing. It's not my style. But I love the truth.

Oh puh-leeze. If "carrying a human life" is so special, then how come any female of childbearing age can do it, regardless if she's strung out on drugs, alcoholic, on welfare, or a prostitute? What's so special about carrying a human life because someone is the victim of rape or molestation by a family member? Egad.
Pregnancy is far overrated.

Hey PlatinumHanger,
You're exactly correct. There is a difference between excellent design and what just feels good on the eyes.
I believe everyone is complaining because they think Jeffrey was mean to poor little Angela and her poor little Mommy. Jeffrey can be cranky, but who cares?! Angela and Kayne are both Macaroni gluers if you ask me. Which you didn't, but I thought I'd tell everyone anyhow.

And everyone feeling sorry for pregnant Laura - well, she got that way on purpose, so she should quit complaining or quit being pregnant. I have no sympathy for pregnant women or for mothers beyond what I have for any human being. They just are not any more special than anyone else. I think Laura, most of all, knows she is lucky in her personal life and doesn't ask for or expect special treatment.
I guess you were hatched then, and apparently NEVER pregnant!
Having great respect for my mother and father and ALL loving and caring mothers and fathers that love and care for their children and strive to raise moral and civilized children in a very immoral and uncivilized world; and, myself having been pregnant a few times in my life as well, all I can say I have great respect for Laura being 3 months pregnant and acheiving at least the final 5 and still striving and working towards her goals in the competition.
When a woman is 3-6 months pregant the hormones that are being produced cause her to be very, VERY (constantly!!!!!) sleepy and tired. These contestants are working day after day on these challenges with very little sleep, if at all, and she is still able to pull it off!!!! Special woman--YES, indeed she is special, very SPECIAL!--most women couldn't or wouldn't even attempt this kind of venue while pregnant. She appears to be a woman who is very tenacious and can work towards the goals for not only her family but herself as well, which actually benefits her family much more than a woman only working for the goals of her husband & children.
How do you know what "most women" are or aren't capable of while pregnant? I agree with the original post. She's no one special just because she can get knocked up at will. Who cares. It looks like she's using her pregnancy as an excuse to whine and piss and moan about how tough it is to "care for two now" and still belong to this competition.
There are an awful lot of women out there who work(ed) 2 and 3 jobs while pregnant, and that's no more and no less stressful than being full time on a competition. It's not like she's doing any heavy lifting, she's not home taking care of the other 5 kids and husband, etc. Give this "special because she's pregnant" stuff a rest.
I don't think anyone (including Laura) is asking for special treatment or special 'props' because she is pregnant, just that in our opinion as a 42 year old woman who happens to be pregnant, she has my respect and admiration for putting herself through that. I know that when I was pregnant, I could not have worked at that pace and I was only 30. I was a working woman at the time and I made the choice to be that way. Any woman who does that deserves a lot of credit and respect. I think that Laura, most of all, knows how fortunate she is in her personal life and wouldn't dream of accepting special treatment

AMEN! I agree totally. Uli's dress had class and style, as did Laura's, whereas Jeffrey's dress was appalling in it's construction and embarrassing in what it revealed of the model's body. It wasn't high fashion at all - it was just plain funky awful.
What bothers me the most about Jeffrey is the delight he seems to take in other people's failures or struggles. It demonstrates a serious lack of confidence in himself and his own work, almost an absence of self esteem. But this attitude comes across in his comments as a terrible character flaw that is very disturbing and off-putting. His tendency to demean others and their efforts as he promotes himself at their expense may not affect his standing during this show, but there will come a time when this attitude will hurt him.

I love Jeffrey. Sure he can be a jerk but I think that has alot to do with editing. His mother seemed so proud of him so that says alot. Loved everything he has done. The final three will be Jeff, Michael and Laura. Kayne is going next than Uli. The winner will probally be Michael. Which is O.K. but really would like to see Jeff win.

I'm more disappointed with each show and have already decided that I won't be tuning in for another season. Uli was robbed of a win. They picked Junkie Jeffrey's POS dress and I firmly believe the french hooker woman wanted to screw JJ, hence the high scores.
Someone please wash that nasty judge's hair and let me know when he's designed something more than the Delta airlines uniforms in the past 10 years.
The judges are idiots and the show is becoming more and more pathetic. Such a change from the first two seasons.

I just love Jeff - I think he has talent. From the moment I saw the fabric, I knew it would win - did you see the way the model worked it? Laura is just plain tired and way too safe. Her dress was Zzzzzzz! I felt that Uli's dress was way kinda Santino looking, too much of a change from her true style. What his name, the "red-head" is just super tacky and would be better off designing for an off the strip a Vegas side show. Loved Mike until this past show, but he still has a chance in my opinion. I want jeff or Uli to win and I will be happy. More so Jeff, because I think he had a lot of issues he over came. But but anyone who knows fashion, knows he yellow dress was GREAT!

I was thinking about Jeffrey's dress and all I can say is this; when I have seen Couture dresses before I, for the most part, asked what the heck was the designer thinking. Even though(I can't believe I am writing this) I did like the dress simply because it was different. The judges have been consistent in liking things that are different, on all 3 seasons. Well, except Keith's win on the first episode...I am still asking myself what the heck was innovative about his dress?
But I think the most important thing to remember when considering what the true definition of couture means... hideous.

I agree completely, and I was sure he had. I thought it was beautiful and innovative and editorial and all that. I love Laura and Michael, but both of their dresses.... awful. Uli's, been there seen it 45 times, and Jeffrey's ... Tim mentioned in his podcast they sell home textiles in the store, and Jeffrey (and Vincent) obviously wandered into that department by mistake. I hated Jeffrey's "dress." Oh well

When Jeffrey said, referring to Kane, "who cares if he gets hurt?"... was he being facetious? That seems a little too mean to say, even for him, if it was said seriously. Especially when Kane toasted his win at their dinner. Somehow I don't think he really meant it.

Once upon a time, a parachute and a tablecloth fought to the death in Scotland. An industrious young lad recycled the battlefied detritus and called it "couture."
He draped it on a tootielicious Amazonia, who marched it down the runway so ferociously that the little bunny judges cried, "You win!" right before their retinas were permanently seared.

I discovered this show last week. (since Bravo replays it alot I've managed to watch every episode of this version 3) I was channel surfing and, as is my wont, I paused for a sec when there appeared an amazing hottie on screen. 'Who's that?' I wonder... and after a bit find out: Heidi Klum?... never heard of her. but WOW. So I give the show a few minutes... 'what network is this anyway?'.... Bravo... Bravo? Can't say I've ever tuned in to this one before for anything (I don't channel surf much and very recently got on the cable trip itself.)
'WAITAMINUTE I'm watching a reality show about fashion design?!?!?!?!'
I don't watch/like reality shows.
Errrrm... fashion? I'm completely a fish outta water on that score.
Just one of those two factors alone would keep the surfing going without looking back.
However... there seemed to be something about this "Project Runway" production that destroyed the fact that I'm not the intended demographic. The best I can say is that I found myself watching some amazingly talented people at work in circumstances I wouldn't want to be involved with.
I can't say AT ALL whether or not what these folks design and execute is "fashion world good". I can say that I laugh at the idea of ME having to design and put together anything clothes related ever. These contestants (I mean all 15) are in the freakin' stratosphere of serious ability from where I sit.
And then there's the learning factor. "Couture"?
HAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Man, I never thought I'd live to see the day that I had the faintest Idea what any fashion term meant. The show presents, for me, a whole lotta "huh?", "what's she talking about?" and a good many "WTF?'s" thrown in for good measure. Which for me is a good thing, as I don't mind having my ignorance identified and if possible, reduced.
So far, little things are becoming clear... other things will take more digging: at some point I may get a clue as to why Keith's books would give him an advantage.
Another good thing about the show: it doesn't hurt that some of the challenges actually matter on the bigger stage of real life. Like the Macy's challenge, the fashion icon one and the one Kayne won, where his design will be worn by Miss America. I've sampled Survivor and Big Brother and found them boring and utterly wanting: their challenges, while difficult for the contestants I guess, meant nothing more than air time on the network. Pretty insipid stuff.
So miss america is going wear Kayne's dress in the Miss Universe deal? DAMN. Even a total fashion ignoramus like myself would have to give dude his major propers for that kind of achievement. And I can name only one pageant winner ever: Vannessa Williams.
The only downside to the show is that I won't be able to get my male friends into it. Though I don't have good gaydar, it doesn't take much to figure out that there's some homo involvement with PR and none of that would last on their screens for long at all. In fact, soon as I get around to telling them about PR and how much I like it, they'll be telling me to hand in my Hetero Guy Membership card. I'm going to get roundly joned on like nobody's business. I foresee this and it matters not.
I'll always be a huge fan from now on.
And here's a direct message to you my fellow message board posting people: while you are watching the show I will be doing the same (I'm in the Balt/Washington area). And while you are sitting there (presumably) rating what comes down the runway, I'll be sitting here wondering what the hell it is I'm looking at. I have zero frame of reference with respect to good and bad in the fashion realm. Many of your posts are instructive in terms of where taste and objective criteria play their roles, but even of those, I plead no contest. Your takes on the matters are very interesting.
Sorry for the long post!

But I think the most important thing to remember when considering what the true definition of couture means... hideous.
now to catch up...
I am soon to be 55 (birthday month) and the most high fashion I wear is "Chico's" so if you know that brand you know where to place me on the fashion ladder (lol). Sooooooooo, I was startled how much I liked Jeffrey's design and I agree with all the posters about it not being wearable by any but a very few. In watching the bonus footage, Jeffrey designed his dress for the challenge criteria. If I remember correctly, he stated that courture meant to him not necessarialy to be wearable but to be able to be displayed like in a museum. I know I am mucking this up, but I got his point. It was important that he presented his best effort. His model did "sell" it, but I think she was soooooooo glad to wear his design and not Vincent's. Uli definitely had the Greek Goddess look and I loved the bodice and braiding. I just wished Kayne had listened to Tim because even though I didn't consider his gown to be couture, I loved the colors except for the velvet strips and Amanda really looked lovely. What Michael had in his mind (dessert?) didn't translate but I give him E for effort. Laura should have made the collar detachable so that she could hand carry it on the plane.

Thanks for the heads up on Vincent's interview on EW.com It was very surprising to hear his criticism of Tim, though. Even Jeffrey, who likes so few of the other designers, said he wouldn't know what to do if Tim didn't pop in to see him for the rest of his life (paraphrasing here). Vincent made it
sound as if Tim had been GUNNing for him the entire time. Also, his opinion is that the only other real designer, besides himself, was Bradley. He truly lives in his own delusional, addlepated, artsy, getting off, & turning-himself-on world.

it's not friday in my neck of the woods, but it takes a day or two for people to think about this stuff. my only point about laura's situation is that it's not AWEsome what she's doing. comendable, yes, but not AWE inspiring. and yes, i've had a baby.
Well, I think she has done very well with the stress-making conditions but I can understand if she is beginning to find it a bit much. Apparently she came through the ordeal okay because someone posted the url to a photo and an interview and she looked great.
I think all of the contestants have been doing amazingly well with the lack of sleep and there seems to have been considerable cameraderie developed -- fellow sufferers? -- in spite of the competition.
How about three cheers and a tiger for all of those who have made it this far?

Here here, Shelby. I really enjoyed this epi. Hardly any drama, just in the context of sh*t talking (and we expect that, right?), and lots and lots of fashion talk. Plus, the right person was out (Finally!).
Yes, I felt as if I were watching an episode of PR again...thank goodness.

Welcome, Bungle. Thoroughly enjoyed your first post. If your straight friends give you any trouble about being a PR fan, just hit them with your purse - lol

Nick Verreos once again cracks me up in his blog. He thinks Kayne is being set up for the auf next week. Yikes.

Hello everyone.
I'm certainly enjoying this season just as much as the others. I love the challenges and the trip to Paris was great!
When Jeffrey picked the plaid material I thought this will either sink him or he'll be the fave. It's hard to tell sometimes with the judges. I loved the way the dress moved down the runway. He took a chance and it paid off. Uli's dress was very nice. I still love Michael, but poor guy had his problems. Laura's dress looked nice in Paris, but sucked in NYC. Vincent deserved to go home even though he cashed in his 401k blah blah blah. Kayne really disappointed. What was the comment somebody made about Kayne Vegas-ing his outfits? I can't remember it exactly, but I cracked up when it was said last night.
I still haven't picked a fave yet. As soon as I do, they'll be the next one auf'd, so I'm not going to jinx anybody.

When I think couture, I think of Vivienne Westwood and Christian Lacroix and the wild and crazy outfits Eddy used to wear on the "Ab Fab" TV show. So I can certainly understand why Jeff won, even though I liked Uli's dress better. I didn't like Michael's gown until the judges suggested that he tuck in those rabbit ears on the bust--what a difference it made! I'm glad Vincent is gone, he's one strange dude. I would love to see Michael win--not only is he extremely talented, but he's a nice guy, always has good things to say about the other designers and he listens to Tim.

Did I read somewhere that DCJewBear is not going to post anymore? What happened?
I didn't like any of the dresses tonight. I might have liked Vincent's if he had put more into it. Both my faves, Laura and Michael, failed tonight. Can't stand anything Jeff does.
Can't a guy change his mind? I've been scanning the board for a while and not posting but I wrote to someone about Bears yesterday and figured, what the hell, I may as well post a little.
When I saw it was couture I knew everybody would be eager to share their perfectly wrong opinions and, that's where I like to be, in the thick of it.
But, if you are actually posting while watching the show then you may have a problem. Ya know, there's meds out there for that.
Dc,
Im glad your back posting but damn, who pissed in your PR punch? Your one grumpy bear. I get it, you like Jeffrey. You cant insult someone into submission. I hated his dress, you didnt. Its all good. Now, have a damn cheeseburger and go back to being a teddy bear.
