Discuss the Al's transformation from being a civil servant to just having civil manners.
Depoetic
Al was a gentle soul. I enjoyed watching the guys cut up, and in contrast to their gibes and joviality I was struck by how quiet and intensly committed to learning every lesson Al was.

He chose to continue living in the apartment he was raised in. (Where was the kid's room in this tiny place?) I understand the feeling. The idea of selling the home my Grandfather built is killing me... so if I had a choice, I'd probably stay... but Al's tiny place was a bit scary!

The mirror in the bathroom reminded me of a movie... someone has either relocated from "Elm Street" or stood looking in the mirror whispering "Candyman" one too many times!

I just disolved in giggles when Ted stood in the tub, raised the window and cried, "Help me!" He sounded like a kitten up a tree! (BTW, Nice fitting seat in that jeans selection for Teddy, I must say!) I loved the cheese store! I didn't know about the leaf wrapping! I LOVE all kinds of cheeses and now MUST go sample those named tonight! (Ted? Would Barry mind you taking me for a lesson in cheesy cuisine?) BTW... BIG **SNAPS** to Al for asking the cheese expert for the correct etiquette involved in eating cheese! Our SG was REALLY paying attention!!!

...Carson...? Sweetie? Our dearest, most refulgent, mesmeric cutie? Darlin' was that a bit of tummy we saw? Been snagging Thommy's snacks? Don't diet on MY account, honey... it just took me by surprise! I still thought you were spectacularly gorgeous!

I loved Thom's pitching the rocks on the table and announcing his decorating job was done! I LOVED his little "nerd" play - he makes an awfully cute little nerd! The apartment was breathtaking as always, and I LOVED Thom changing out the doors for curtains! ...Luxurious thread counts... Memory is "reward and punishment."

Now, Carson may have found the black brassier and made the comments about stacked... but Kyan in that all black long sleeved T-shirt at the gym? Let's discuss STACKED!! WHEW!! That dear gent has got QUITE the chest and arms! **De ducks a Prada shoe pitched from MGK's Parisian abode**
The foot massage was beautifully instructed and beautifully executed. (And when Carson was getting his feet handled... I kept waiting for someone to snark "Make a WISH!")

I loved Jai's taking Al for the lessons in etiquette! I thought I was a pretty genteel lady, but I didn't know about the order of introductions! Man alive! I NEVER get away from a show without learning something of value! I don't drink alcohol, but I have ALWAYS wondered why there were so many different types of wine glasses. I even wondered about that just last week seeing that amazing burgandy in such large bowled glasses during last week's reveal. ...Ok... small bowl - white - (cold like ice) hold by the stem. Large bowl - red - (Like blood, you can warm it) hold at the base of the bowl. Got it. Thank you darlin' Jai! ...And he got his hair cut midway through the episode! ...BTW again, I'm curious why we got this out of order, when the folks in OZ didn't. Not important... just curious.

I love watching Carson at the couturiers. Al needed a nicer place to shop. (No offense to Jersey!) With all of promotions (and I'm willing to bet a rent controlled apartment) - he probably COULD afford a little nicer suit! I've never known what constituted nice suit construction... now I can tell the difference between my dad's sort of nice suits and my grandfather's stellar suits. (Granddad was a SHARP dresser.)

I loved Al's hard work to become a better man for himself, his careful, successful attempt to make a better impression on his superiors - and to care for his girlfriend. Kyan pressed Al saying it was almost like Al thought of her as just a friend... but I think it goes deeper. Al just stuck me as a very introverted sweet guy. The girl friend was a doll! She could give Carson a run for his Tanorexic money, though! I loved the gibe Al made about the steam looking like her toes were smoking! LOL!

I thought the friend sitting slouched in the chair was a little snarky - I don't think Al was trying to be a know it all... and so the friend came off snarky to me. ...Now Thom can slide down in HIS chair ANYTIME... but I won't bother trying to get in the way of any Thommy wife that might want to recline with our dear sir...

I loved the Hip Tips... I loved the show... Sigh.. I'm rambling... I'll stop for now. Well done dear gents! Peace, prosperity and success! (Lawdy, I'm sleepy - got to go climb into my low-thread-count jersey knit sheets and TRY to sleep! Ah - to sleep, perchance to dream ...of HIGh thread count sheets...!)That was for TTB... Safe trip hon, prayers for your daughter while she stays at home w/dad. Hug any or all of the boys you run into for me, ok?

Al, I just wanted to say "Thank you" for the job you do. Many people have jobs in this world that others wouldn't want - but are necessary to our daily lives. You perform an often thankless job that keeps neighborhoods clean and people healthy. ...And you deservedly take pride in it. Thanks for doing WHAT you do... just in case no one has ever said that to you. ...And giving the T-shirts to our boys was a lovely gesture. You are a very dear person, sir.
Peace and grace to you! --De

Is it just a coincidence, or were there some shoutouts in this ep? (No, don't answer that. I know this ep happened back when Jai got his hair cut short, but I don't want my parade rained on.)

Kyan looked as yummy as ever. I loved the leather jacket and the long-sleeved tee was nice. I thought the pants were a bit '80s, and he's old enough to have worn that look the first time =^.^= - not too bad, though. I do adore him in casual attire. In the exercise segment, we got graced with a view of Kyan's nice strong legs! Yum! Why do I think this show is about me?: KYAN'S IDEA WAS A FOOT MASSAGE! And he used EUCALYPTUS OIL, TOO! Yeah, Kyan! You couldn't forget your foot massage! You liked it didn't you? Didn't you?! (unlike Lewinsky, I didn't wear a blue dress - only my stain-resistant hand-me-down polyester-lined Cloak of Invisibility with frilly lingerie underneath.) During the reveal, Kyan wore a nice light blue shirt. That color suits him well. He said, "Nothing gets a girl like a footrub." OR A GUY, HONEY. YOU KNOW IT WAS GOOD FOR YOU down in Ole meh-he-ko! Thom was so lucky to touch Ky's foot in the loft. ("Ooh, honey, little flight to heaven!")

Thom was right on about removing the kitchen doors. Ooh, Lawd! He found the rubbahs. It had to be a shoutout to TFF (Thomiwan) when he said, "May the force be with you."!!!! And as if the Thommywives weren't already teased enough last time, he had to rub it in by talking to the SG in his room in detail about - what else?- sheets!!

Um, Ted, not really feeling the idea for the reveal. It seemed to be reaching too much, which reminded me of the Philly ep. The cheese segment reminded me of the Musical Theater ep. (sorry, forgot that guy's name already)

I detected a shoutout to "Queer Eye for my_guy_ky" when Carson found the big bra. One thing I don't understand is why the GF left it there if she doesn't live there. I'm glad Carson taught the SG about good quality & fit. (hmm...a mini shoutout to my last few H/T posts? My head swells as I type this.) He picked out some nice couture for the SG.

I liked Jai's suit and it was great of him to have the SG learn etiquette. I don't drink wine, but I learned a lot about the proper glasses and how to hold them. I also liked the way Jai did the "MWAH" on the ettiquette instructor's cheek. *pouts* I want Jai to "MWAH" me, too.

It was very sweet of the SG to surprise the FF with those t-shirts from his workplace.

Am I really first? I was disappointed in this episode. The energy didn't seem to be there. Can you believe I actually dozed off before the reveal and only to saw the very end of the tips, so I'll have to watch again tomorrow night. I have never dozed off during an episode of QE before!
It did seem that there was some resistant body language on the part of the SG early on, especially with Thom. And Thom didn't seem to have as big a part last night although he did an amazing job with the apartment--I loved the blue and the mirrors that echoed the view in the l.r. and the headboard. And the SG also seemed to relate better after he saw the apartment.
The SG really cleaned up nice. Althought he wasn't bad and didn't seem to need a lot of grooming. The things Carson can do with one charcoal suit are amazing. And the lavendar IZOD looked incredible with the jeans and suit jacket.
Loved the foot massage with Kyan--I guess that's what I missed in the reveal, I need to see how the girlfriend took the massage. Remember the last time Kyan encouraged a SG to do a massage--the woman was really RUDE about it. Of course, I think the SG wasn't well informed about how to do it.
Well, I'll go back and watch it again on Thursday and maybe I'll change my opinion somewhat. But overall not the best show I've seen.
P.s. Did y'all notice that John K posted a thanks to all of us last week? What a gentleman! Joanie, he's a keeper.
Cheers,

I really liked this episode. It was very cute. Ted was really funnny in this episode. I loved when he was looking at the garbage trucks with Al and especially when he was on it.lol he is sooo great!!! So I like Jai's hair. It makes him look older. I didn't realize how young he was though. I was looking at their birthdays and Jai is like ten years younger than everybody else. Yeah Al did a really nice job. He did everything like the Fab 5 said well except he forgot about some of the cheeses but its all good. That stuff is hard to remember. At first when he came into his house I couldn't tell if he liked it or not. He didn't really seem to like it. I thought it looked great. Thom is such a great interior designer. And I really liked what Al wore to the party thing. WAY TO GO CARSON!!!!!!!! And Kyan........the foot rub thing. Great idea!!! Every woman loves a foot massage. Snaps for Kyan. Well all in all this was a good episode. I liked the concept. " Just because you are a garbage man, that doesn't make you trash" ha ha love it PEACE OUT

De: Thank you, sweetie, for seeing and saying everything wonderful about this episode. Ghod, you're amazing!!!

Greetings dear lovely people! How are you, this fine day? Me? Busy, busy, busy! Unfortunately I'm a little more frayed than usual, so I don't know how often I'll be on this week... and since I'm getting more depressed by the minute that I haven't satiated my weird proclivity for having to re-cap each episode in weeks... I thought I'd take a minute to pitch out a bunch of "facts" about this epi.

To all the first-timers who loved this show SO much that you just had to come and say: "I thought this was great!"
OR To all of you who are long-absent posters coming back to say "Hi!"... WELCOME TO THE FORUM! I hope you pull up a chair and come by often!
In anticipation of every Newbie Question I can think of:

(1)Our wonderous Gentlemen Five were dressed in the gorgeous fashions of J. Lindeberg - no, I don't know if the shoes and boots came from there as well.
(a)Yes, I DID notice that Ted was wearing cufflinks, just as Carson did during the John K. episode - but no, I don't know who their jeweler is.
(2) The experts in this episode were:
Etiquette Advisor: Joy Gregory at Patroon
Tom the Tailor at Paul Stuart
Max the 'Cheese Master' at Artisnal
Scott the workout instructor at Chelsea Piers
and in a segment I originally missed, but saw in the repeat,
SuperIntendent Tony Irrizari at the Sanitation Yard.
(3)The cheeses from Artisnal were:
(a)At the store:
A cow's milk French cheese called Pierre Robert,
The oldest Cheese in England called Cheshire - with a higher Sipidity,
And lastly Vasheraunt Brie Bouchair.
(b)At home:
The Cheshire cheese was paired with Veramonte Sauvignon Blanc,
The Vasheraunt Prevoujois cheese was paired with A Nappa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Mt. Veeder Wineries,
and the Au'Zetone cheese was paired with a Ravenswood Sonoma County Zinfandel.
©Artisnal kept active culture cheeses at 46* to 52* FARENHEIT! (I could just see the folks internationally lifting their eyebrows since they use Celcius!)
(4)The workout routine at Chelsea Piers was called "Full Throttle" and it was resistance training in a sand pit.
(5)At the Sanitation Yard - I didn't know they did the street clearing with the salt spreaders too! How cool! (And Ted "always wanted to be a hood ornament?" )
(6)The clothing for Al came from: Robert Graham, Hugo Boss, Lacoste (THEY are the ones with the little alligators on the shirt!!) and of course - Paul Stewart, where Carson looked so lovely in the window display!
(a)His shoes were Colhan loafers and the tutleneck was a fine guage Marino.
(7)The girlfriend's name was Sandra - and she's a stunner! WOW! Loved that Leopard print jacket!
(8)The sheets Thom put on the bed were from Signoria deFirenze.
(9)The sound system was from BOSE ...and since the LITTLE ones BEGIN at $500.00, NO WONDER Al didn't get a flat screen TV!
(10)The oil was called "Active" and since Stone Spa is listed in the credits, I bet that's where they got it. It was Jojoba and Eucalyptus oils.
(11)No, Kyan didn't name the hair and skin products, and while I looked on the screen to see if there was a name... (and didn't) I also didn't look up in the shopping guide link above on this page to see is it listed anything either. I'll bet it won't - since it wasn't mentioned in the episode. AL, BE A DEAR... IF YOU'RE READING THIS... STOP IN AND SAY HI - AND TELL US IF KYAN SET YOU UP WITH PRODUCTS WE DIDN'T SEE! Thank you!
(12)The method of massage was called, "Reflexology" and you can find a map of pressure points at:
http://www.dk.com/reflexology
With additional info at:
http://www.reflexology.org and
http://www.reflexology-research.com
(13)The music from this episode was:
"Here Comes Your Man" Performed by: The Pixies
"Shamma Lamma Ding Ding" Performed by Mocean Worker
"Return of the Gordo" Performed by Paiboy
and "My Best Friend's Boyfriend" Performed by Kevin Holmes and Jan Gibson.
Additional music is credited to: Auracle Music, FirstCom Music, Kid Gloves Music, Opus 1 Music and Selectracks.

To all the Newbies that didn't like this episode:
Gee, I'm sorry, but you're welcome to the forum and I hope you feel like you can visit us often. I'm sorry, however - I don't share your opinion.

To all the **Newbies** who post that they were bored during this episode: I agree - you were bored. I wasn't, but you were. However, I submit that you were bored long before viewing this episode. You were SO bored that you got up from your sofa or bed, booted up your computer, surfed the net, discovered the hard way that www.Bravo.com was NOT the TV network, continued until you found www.BravoTV.com, surfed the website for a "contact us" link, stumbled onto the "community" section, found the "message boards," took the time to register, waited to be confirmed, got confirmed, returned all the way through the website BACK to the message boards only to TELL us what we already now know - YOU WERE BORED BEFORE COMING HERE! ...Remember what our dear Fab 5 suggested during the (Now Emmy Nominated) Christmas Episode? Go out and don't be afraid to LIVE A LITTLE!

To all the "professional" trolls and haters: Welcome to the forum, we all know you won't bother sticking around to defend your woefully uninformed position, but we'll be defending our resplendent Gentlemen Five anyway.
(1)Carson is a consumate professional with fantasic wit, grace, charm and intelligence. Those who disparagingly call him a "flamer" - babe, we think the man's so hot, we wonder how on earth the carpet doesn't catch on fire when he walks over it.
(2)Ted is a comic genius with intelligence, bravado and a sagacious wit. I learn more from him every episode - and those blue eyes are to die for!
(3)Thom is a world class designer and a DAYUM sexy man. (In the words of our dear TTB!) He never ceases to amaze and is a virtuoso at his craft. He is playful, witty and surprisingly wicked with his little pranks!
(4)Kyan is the most gentle of souls and granted, while he IS stark raving - burn down the house - hot, he is also as witty and comic as he is deeply spiritual and caring. He is so VERY much more than just eye candy, babies.
(5)Jai is an amazing young man who has carved out his own niche in a staggeringly brilliant way. He is incredibly talented. He is an actor and singer, with an innate understanding of people and how they interact. He is a dear sensitive soul that truly pulls for all their subjects and is the lynch pin that holds this group together. If you need validation for my opinion - you're welcome to peruse the notes on Mark Finegan's thread, and Comment's thread page 268.
...And finally, dear troll - while I will still welcome you here, I won't be the slightest bit upset if you just return to the cave from whence you crawled out of.

Peace and grace to all!

Now, when you read my diatribe to the "bored" Newbies - just know I was talking to the ones who pop in just once to voice that opinion! LOL! {{Hugs}}

Sweetie - the tone was far more low-key because I believe Al was a naturally very subdued person. He was very intense with concentration throughout the whole thing... and perhaps, nervous? I caught that little story he told from his mom - "If you don't do your homework, you'll end up a garbage man... ...of course now she's very proud of me..." and it stung me a bit. I think that's why, even as horribly exhausted as I was, I still stopped to make sure I said thank you to him for the work he does. I didn't see the whole trip to the yard before I posted that.

I'm sure his mom is just bursting at the seams with pride in her boy now! ...It just stung me a tad. I have enough trouble overcoming similar comments from my past... and I hope that he knows just how important he is in society. It is a thankless profession - and may contribute to his low-key personality.

I intend to watch this epi everytime it re-runs. It was more subtle - and a bit of a revisitation to the Warren Loy epi - but I thought Al was sweet. I liked this one.

Peace hon! Sweet dreams! --

NOPE, you are NOT the only one thinking this. I was a little let down too, I just didn't get the usually energy. The boys were great just running off having their own fun, while he backed out of the way.

Something weird about a guy of 41 who lives in his parent's apartment, *(yea, right! where did they raise a kid in that tiny place?) -dates a girl for 2 years (according to him, 2 yrs, she said in her interview 1 1/2) and has NO inclination what people mean when they ask him, "so, are you getting married?" hmm, DUH! meanwhile, how much did she look like Carmella Soprano?? (nope, not Edie Falco, CARMELLA)

Last night's episode was really funny! I loved when Kyan said, "say the first thing on your mind when you smeell this," to Jai, and then Jai just fell down. But they never showed Kyan kissing the fish like on the preview.

Jai! Why'd you cut you're hair?!

Okay, back to the episode. I think Al could have been a bitmore conversational at the party. Al could have tried a little harder to be a better host. Good thing he listened to Ted about the cheese or all would be lost. Oh, and all Thom wives, did you seee when Thom was showing Al the new sheets and brought up "thread count"? Carson did a great job with the clothes. I liked the all-black outfit. Thom made the room look a lot bigger. Well, as big as you can get in an apartment that small. I can't believe that he has lived there almost ALL HIS LIFE.

I loved Carson's hip tip at the end of the show! I loved how he was falling all over the plastic! Too funny! Al's girlfriend seemed to enjoy the foot rub. (Hey, didn't MGK mention a foot rub with Kyan somewhere back in the posts?..)
Jai did a good job by taking him to be taught etiquette. Did anybody else notice the kssing "mwah" sound he made when saying hello to the etiquette lady? So cute!! I learned a lot of useful information from the lesson. I didn't know which order to greet guests. Everyone's hip tip was helpful, too.

I loved Ted's cheese time. Mmmm...chese.

I have a sudden mind blank right now so I'll have to think about aome of the things the fab 5 did in the beginning while rummaging throught Al's house. Oh, well. The fab 5 did a great job!!

That was hysterical. And I'm pretty certain the "COooOme on doooowwwnn to Thhhoomm and Jaais Organ Emporium.." bit was straight from SCTV - Tex and Edna's Organ Emporium?? I think their emporium was whatever overstocked weird thing their warehouse had on hand, but their skits were really funny. Edna would say it just like that.

I must admit that when I watched this episode the first time, I was not into it. After forcing myself to stay up until 1 a.m. for the repeat, I thought the show was great and I realized that I did miss the very beginning when the guys enter the apartment. I laughed so hard that I disturbed my dog when Kyan asked "Who sprains their ankle skiing on a bed? I do!" The sad thing is.... I have done that 3 times plus my wrist twice! Gee, will I ever learn?! Can't wait for next week's show.

I was dozing off as well, but it wasn't the show - it was physical exhaustion. I have impressions but no strong opinions. I liked Al. Those t-shirts he gave the guys were great. He was a good sport when the guys were tearing up and around the tiny apartment!
All the Fab 5 did a great job and Al was an excellent student as Kyan said during the reveal!
Cheers right back at ya!

PS BTW BOSE is definitely worth the cost!
PS PS John K is definitely a class act!

Organ Emporium? I could have sworn he said "Orient Emporium" ...which makes just about as much sense...

Yeah, I was definitely talking to my tv (aimed at Jai) during the reveal. Why oh why did he cut his hair???

Hee-hee! Good thing that was only addressed to the trolls, or I'd be in trouble.

IMO, it seemed low-key because last week's ep was a tough act to follow.
I thought the SG's friend at the reveal was tactless, more so than snarky. I was surprised that he made those remarks in front of the SG's boss.

Quote:

*smacks forehead* Warren! That was the name I was looking for when I commented on the cheese segment.
I was jealous when Ky said to the GF, "GET HORIZONTAL." Okay, granted he didn't say it to her directly, but still. I suspect that maybe Kyan has read some of the stuff on these boards. Ever since I got my panties in a twist over Kylie throwing herself at him in his Hip Tip on the Ralph S. ep, he's been doing and saying stuff to make me jealous in subsequent shows. It's like he's doing it to spite me, that rascal. Well, that's okay, Ky, two can play that game - because I'll have some more snark attacks and twisted fanfic plotlines awaiting you! *devilish grin*
whiskers
getting the cold philly r. vibe w/ ted's reeeeeeediculous wine & cheese "stairway to success" program. would have been much much MUCH more interested in al's life story, regarding 38 years in that tiny space. micro-kitchen (julia child wept, y'all): heLLOOOOO -- could have done a culinary exploration of that angle, but no ... again (think about it), we are subjected to ted's world tour o'cheese. oh, excuse me ... excursion du monde de fromage (er, maybe).

I so agree about the friend. He was a A@*hole. While Al was trying to impress his boss with his new sophistication, the friend was undermining it with his snarky and really down right rude attitude and comments. He was not helping Al at all.

Well, I think it was organ. Now I've had this whole wracking-my-feeble-brains thing going on trying to remember if it WAS an Organ Emporium that Tex and Edna ran. It was a weird warehouse of overstocked stuff that I think varied from episode to episode. SCTV has just been released on DVD, to my delight, so I'm afraid I'll just have to go rent it and solve the mystery.

When Kyan twisted his ankle "skiing" on the bed, I had to think....Kyan, you should have warmed up first to avoid injuries...wasn't that a previous tip of yours? (hee hee...I cracked myself up again....SIP!)
Texangel: Yes, yes, yes! I agree...Sandra was definitely Carmella Soprano.
When Thom was in the furniture store with Al, there was a phone ringing almost the entire time. Could someone answer the damn phone, please!?!? Thom, obviously the consummate professional, wasn't bothered. (Hmmmm....Thom....consummate....sorry, my mind wandered.)
Kyan: (in the loft) "Get horizontal, honey, get horizontal!" (Kyan, wake up and smell yourself, you would never have to say that twice.!)
Al was so willing to try whatever it takes to further himself. I've worked at the same place for 17 years and I know you really need to do extraordinary things to demonstrate what you're capable of because after you've been doing a good job for so long, it tends to be taken for granted. I wish you all the best....you SO deserve it. And if you're ever in Southern California, I'll find a bar stool with your name on it and we'll have a Margarita. (Thom and Sandra don't have to know.).....Didn't I just ask John K. for a date also? I might have to add single and lonely to the jaded and bitter title.
tomasulo
raindog: On another site, it was understood as "Orient" Emporium. Actually, I have no idea......actually, I kind of like "Organ" Emporium....for obvious reasons actually.

That's a good point - I'd have loved something about how to actually cook in such a teeny kitchen. {STOP SAYING ACTUALLY!!!} The cheese shop itself struck me as very amusing, but I think that was because I was reminded of the Monty Python sketch where the guy goes into the cheese shop that doesn't have any cheese he asks for. I kept expecting Ted to ask, "Double Gloucester?" and the counterman to say, "Nooooo"...

"White Stilton?"

"No, we're fresh out."

"Cheddar???? "Sorry, not till tomorrow.."

No Way!
It's clear to me this guy lives in a rent-controlled apt. by choice. He's smart enough not to give half his paycheck to a landlord, and to date an attractive fun and affectionate woman. They probably eat out most of the time anyway, living in New York!
This guy is going to get more mileage out of giving his flight attendant girlfriend foot massages, compared to subjecting her to his attempts at cooking in the micro-galley!
He wants a promotion so Jai helped with the schmooze and Ted helped with the snacks. Al will get credit for improving public relations and making his boss look good on television. He couldn't do that with beer and nuts!
Don't get me wrong, I love a good snark, but Ted was excellent in this show. I thought the scenes with him on the trash truck and in that huge street sander were great!
I love when gay invades straight territory and tszujes it!
notevayas
PS Jai didn't seem to be talking to Al, as much as at him for the two minutes of tape I saw anyway.
PS This was a strong show for Kyan and Thom. Carson and Ted were right on target, but Jai's role eluded me this time.

Okay, I watched the episode again tonight when I wasn't so tired. I must have dozed off another time the other night because I didn't remember any of the time in the furniture store with Thom--I had commented before that I thought he was sorta left out of the episode. WRONG!
I still stand by my comments that this was a pretty low-key episode, but I will revise my opinion somewhat. I guess Al was really listening and learning throughout it all as Kyan said in the reveal. But the crossed arms as he met with each of the guys except Jai was still a little off-putting. Yes, Al did relax and open up with his body language as the episode progressed but he also went back to crossed arms several times.
I agree that the scene with Thom in the shower crying 'help me' was funny. And yes, I remember smiling before and again tonight at the thread count comment.
I also agree with everyone who has commented about Al's 'friend'. He doesn't need friends like that!
I was impressed tonight to notice more clearly that Al was really a sharp looking and dressing guy even before Carson got his hands on him. Okay, the suits in his closet were sad, but he is one of the first in my memory to be pressed and groomed even at the beginning. Obviously he is a man with ambition and goals and he really has some self esteem going for him.
The comment about his mother and becoming a garbage man choked me up also. I'm glad he was able to overcome it and say that of course now his mom is proud of him.
Ted on the sand truck 'I always wanted to be a hood ornament' was also a good chuckle.
Loved the guys comments about Jai's haircut--you're becoming a grown up.
Definitely better the second time when I was awake and alert.
Cheers,

I must admit that when I watched this episode the first time, I was not into it. After forcing myself to stay up until 1 a.m. for the repeat, I thought the show was great and I realized that I did miss the very beginning when the guys enter the apartment. I laughed so hard that I disturbed my dog when Kyan asked "Who sprains their ankle skiing on a bed? I do!" The sad thing is.... I have done that 3 times plus my wrist twice! Gee, will I ever learn?! Can't wait for next week's show.

Yeah, I was definitely talking to my tv (aimed at Jai) during the reveal. Why oh why did he cut his hair???

You know... I COULD blame it on Jai... I COULD blame it on silliness like a sudden downswing in mood... but no... I'll blame it on my outdoor thermometer hitting 101* and the bank sign that said 105* and the long run up and down I-20....

I chopped off my hair. POOF! 7 - 9 inches GONE! The guy did a FABULOUS job and my natural curl is freaking out! (Little hair folicles are cheering about how they lost so much weight!) I'll bleach it today... but I realized that all my style products were for my long hair - so I went and purchased John Frieda's "Dream Curls" curl perfector - and my very first Pomade! --Citre' Shine Highly Polished Glossing Pomade (Defines, smooths, holds and shines.)
I hope Kyan will be proud of me... I walked right passed all that LA Looks and DEP Gel! (I was so tempted to get what I knew how to use from the 80's!)
I tipped the $5.00 for the shampoo and the 20% for the GREAT cut... just like Kyan taught me.

I can now use styling products to straighten my hair - or go ducky/flippy just like Carson!
(He gibed a reporter recently that he has NATURALLY CURLY HAIR! ...so taking a double take look at one of his competition photos... {Pull up his name at www.webshots.com} that MIGHT be TRUE and not one of his teasing little jokes!)

I can even do my "do" up like the gals in John K's episode! He! He! And it's SOOOOOO much cooler this way!
**De does a little dance**
So... I CAN'T gibe Jai anymore for his cut... Like mine, It'll grow back out soon enough!

Ok hon - you've said that a couple times now. I keep whispering to myself, "It's not true, it's not true" as my stomach just gets in knots and I fight off a panic attack.

I remember the fan popping up January 29th to say she saw Carson and Jai in the golf store with Mark Finegan - then the show aired April 20th - a 3 month lag for editing and production.
Then I remember the pics we snagged in May of Jai right after the haircut when the guys were at a cancer charity benefit... and I keep telling myself, "there's a three month lull... and WE'RE just so tuned into THEM that it's coincidence..."

...But *I'VE* noticed things that fall inline with things that nearly everyone has commented on - and so I'm getting more and more tense. It was a terrible effort to write on Philly's thread because of that fear.

I was serious on Rob's thread when I said I'd stop writing if the guys read here - because I wouldn't want to be all "straight girl gushing" and creeping them out - you know? When Chara gave Ted the web addy to str8girl, he said, "Oh! I haven't been to THAT one yet!" ...So he HAS been online...?

I so agree about the friend. He was a A@*hole. While Al was trying to impress his boss with his new sophistication, the friend was undermining it with his snarky and really down right rude attitude and comments. He was not helping Al at all.
Nellybell

EXACTLY! I was SOOOO tired - and SOOOO down the passed few days - I missed a LOT! Last night was the first time I registered the whole slouch act was AFTER his boss got there! His snark about "tell them about the oldest cheese in the world" was after the Comish got there - and I thought, "Sheesh! don't be a jerk!" But UNDERMINING is EXACTLY the right word!

(Must now take a lighter tone...)
As for things I missed - (Love that frame-by-frame function on my VCR!) Thom pitches the greatest look at Carson while he's cracking his toes... Ted throws the greatest one back when he get's Carson's foot - and I waited for them to shout, "Make a wish!" LOL! - But by the time the camera was on Ted, Thom was cracking Ky's toes and Ky was making "OUCH!" faces! LOL! ...And Carson pulling his foot up to his face as if to "smoke with his toes?" LOL!

I loved the Cantaloupes and ...avacadoes(?) in the bowl beside Thom. I also wonder if the wine cabinet in the back is translucent and can be lit from within? In previous epi's it looked light blue and recently it's looked tan... The throw pillows are different, the "green" painting I keep trying to get a decent look at, seems to be background to a painting of a red umbrella... (**De racks her brain to remember the artist famous for painting umbrellas...**), just a lot of things.

And, excuse me... but can somebody tell me what are those little "polar bear skin" throws that Thom always plopps around the bedroom are called? They're cute - and decorative... but is there a function beyond that?

I liked the (faux?) cow hide throw on the couch. It really added to the whole ski-lodge feel.

...That's enough already. Peace hon! --

I posted last night after watching this episode again but something must have happened to the post.
I liked the episode much better when I was fully awake altho' I still say it was lower key than some of the more recent ones.
I liked Al better after reading others' comments and looking at him with fresh eyes. One thing I was impressed with is that he was clean and neat coming into the episode--well but comfortably dressed, pressed, shaved. That was a plus! He didn't need a lot of grooming so Kyan could play with things like toning (loved the sand box!) and massaging. I had commented before about the foot massage and how the girlfriend would react, remembering a less than successful massage in a former episode. Sandra seemed to really enjoy the massage and I thought the comment about her toes smoking was cute.
I still do think Al was a bit uptight and had very closed body language will all the boys except maybe Jai. He relaxed later in the episode but initially presented crossed arms to each. Still, I am revising my opinion of his attitude. It was obvious at the party and with Sandra that he had been listening and learning throughout.
I laughed my backside off at Ted on the truck, 'I've always wanted to be a hood ornament.'
I had commented that Thom played a much smaller role although his decorating was to die for. I must have dozed off the first time they were shopping for the table and chairs--GREAT choices and Al was really engaged in the choices also. Yes, caught the thread count comment this time around.
Who do I like most? I think they are a whole and if any one were missing or different I don't think I would enjoy the show as much. I remember the Boston show where only Ted and Thom(?) were on. Hated the couture guy! And I wasn't impressed with the grooming guy. The culture guy was someone I think was on one other episode, after we had already met Jai and he was okay, but not Jai. He is a doll! (Jai that is). Loved the way the other four complemented Jai's haircut. He IS growing up.
Cheers and crossed fingers that I get this one right for posting.

Oh yeah, I forgot to comment on that! That guy was NO FRIEND! What a jerk! Especially the 'oldest cheese' comment, and I think he said it twice! Don't know what his problem was, Al certainly was no threat to him in the work place--he was with the police wasn't he?
Al, lose that guy! You've got so much more going for you!

Congrats on a wonderful haircut, De. I cut my hair off about 5 years ago during a particularly scorching summer and never grew it back. My hair is so fine (but naturally curly) that too much weight looks blah. Now you just need a new wardrobe. I'll put in a call to Carson to hook you up, okay?

It's not just your problem De. I went through a stage when I was freaking out because I thought we were being teased a bit here and there, but like you said, there is too much of a time lag for that to be so.

I don't think the guys would waste their precious time off logging on to fansites. I do hope that Bravo archives some of our stuff, so it's available for the guys to look and laugh over later. I do think that people associated with the show scan fansites for viewer response and maybe a feel for demographics.
If so, notevayas votes for Carson to take an SG riding.
And seriously, could you imagine what would happen if the guys did post on these boards? Chaos. It's good they give us space and vice versa!

On my first post I was just saying things that I liked about the episode, but I spaced on saying some hilarious things that the fab 5 did in the very beginning. Here it goes:
I loved Kyan's "who twists their ankle skiing on a bed? I do." Another thing I loved that Kyan did was when they were going up in an elevator Kyan was fixing his hair in the mirror. Too funny! Kyan should be careful when moving TVs. He almost dropped Al's there.

I loved it when Jai was in the kitchen and said, "This is a very small kitchen."
Ted replied "Well, you're a really small gay guy."

Okay, one last thing. When Carson had Ted up on the door and Ted said, "What are you doing, 'cause I'm just hangin' around." Hilarious!

I bet there's more, but I can't remember it. I can't wait for Tuesday's episode!

**********

I, too, count myself a student of body language. To misquote Andrew Carnegie 'the older I become, the less I listen to what others say and the more I watch what they do.' In Al's case I think we should examine his body language as it relates to what we have learned about his background.

Al is a classic example of the self-made man. He started his career as a garbage collecter. There are few occupations that rank as low on the social scale. Graduating from the-school-of-hard-knocks, without an extensive education or family connections, he fought his way up the ladder into the executive position he now holds based on native intelligence, an inquiring mind, and a desire to achieve.

It is my observation that some self-made men retain a measure of self-doubt -- that they have stumbled into success while others have achieved it through education and/or privilege by birth. While it is speculation on my part, I would not be surprised if "the crossed arms" indicated a defensive posture of "I'm listening, but you've got to prove it to me before I let down my guard."

That contradicts the usual 'reading' of crossed arms as being a negative visual signal, or a I just picking at nits?

SA, scratching his head.

Bingo! I have this discussion with people at work almost every Wednesday. The way I see it, the episodes takes the tone of the straight guy. If you have an outgoing guy (ie, George K.) you get an outgoing episode. - If you have a low-key guy (ie, Al) you get a low-key episode. Still great episodes, but just with a different flavor. Just like the Fab 5 say - the straight guy is the star of the show.

Quote:

He gibed a reporter recently that he has NATURALLY CURLY HAIR!

I've seen from a couple of different sources that Carson's curls are natural! He appears to have rather fine hair, so I'll bet that 1 minute with a hair dryer (don't tell Kyan!) probably straightens it out. My hair is similar.

Yeah, I thought so too. Al was using product himself while getting ready. Either Kyan gave it to him & we just didn't see it, or he had already been using it. He seemed a pretty well groomed guy, so I'm guessing the latter.

I liked this episode!

I did that a few years ago, went from having quite long hair to having REALLY short hair in one fell swoop - I LOVED it. It was lots of fun. Lately I've been growing it out a bit, and I've realized recently that I'm trying to get my hair to look like Carson's. Which is, sadly, kind of nuts, since 1) my hair is nothing like Carson's, and 2) I look nothing like Carson, so even if my hair did end up like his it wouldn't look very good on me. I have a kind of triangular face and my hair is fine but very thick, and even though it's kind of dark blonde naturally I've got it dyed very dark reddish brown. SO I'm not too sure exactly what I'm trying to accomplish. And I'd never admit that anywhere but here!

"Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom!" is what my lover exclaims when he sees kids making out in public. Isn't it supposed to be National Geographic Wild Kingdom? Or am I always fated to be wrong and him to be right?

Ha! Posting right behind his back is fun! Go Ahead.. read your book.. I'm just researching a better cell phone plan.. yeah that's it! Maybe I should carbon date Him....
as for the golf pants...
If John K. were a bit older and had a narrower frame they wouldn't have been so much of a stretch paired with a white polo shirt and conservative navy jacket. But as John still has his masculine build and is forging ahead to a second career, I would say he made the right decision in exchanging them, especially as sport clothes should not cost a mint! The pants made for great teevee though and gave John K. one of the best lines of the show.. "I could be a Marshal in the Gay Pride Parade!"
...signing off as I feel a great need to insist on a Tszuj!

It is so funny how much Kyan is caught fixing his hair. You could actually come up with a drinking game. Ya know, everytime Kyan fixes his hair (in a mirror or not), you take a shot.

For example, in the Wayne H ep, after Kyan and Wayne finish the "day of beauty" he fixes his hair. Shot!

Al D ep: In the elevator. Shot!!

Can anyone else think of one?
