Naomi: I just forwarded a copy of the screenplay to your e-mail. It's 39 pages. Let me know if it comes through okay...I'm a dork at this computer stuff sometimes. I'll find another way to get it to you if that didn't work. Hope you enjoy it.

Tomasulo, I've been wanting to ask you this forever - can I read the screenplay?? Please, please, please???? My email is in my profile!

Raindog and Tomasulo,
As the Designated Schlepper, I have schlepped along the screenplay to Raindog so you don't have to worry about it.

JG

Thank you, JG! I got it, and am looking forward to a good read while snowed in tomorrow!

I got it, I'm printing it out right this moment, and I'm really looking forward to reading it - thanks!!!! (my printer has just screamed WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME!!) I don't read a lot of plays, so that will be fun.

Please don't worry about it. I'd hate it if I even missed one of your posts. (I'm risking getting my computer fried, a big thunder & lightning storm just blew in.) You're a treasure, a jewel, a pearl, a gem. It couldn't possibly be you, there are so many more of us. Please don't censor yourself!!!

I finalized my pick for Devon. Claire Forlani. I watched Triggermen (not The Triggermen) and Mallrats (a smaller part in the last half, but worth watching).

She dated John Cusack for a while. And if you know John and his sister Joan's wry sense of humor, I'm guessing he would date someone who at least appreciated it, if not also shared it. I've got more, but I've got to turn off my computer.

Thank you! I've been trying to think of the right way to say that, and you've summed it up nicely. Fact is, we don't know as much about any of these guys than we seem to think we do! It's only through the interviews that they've allowed us a peek into their lives off-camera and, as you've said, anything else is assumption.

I love "Jeff" - he's so b*thcy it's fabulous. I loved the screenplay, cause honestly, most female fans can relate, but there are a slew of gay men who would probably put up wanted posters if they read this. That said, I wonder if Jai needs a surrogate mother?

Is it weird that I actually know a girl named Carson?

Oh no no no, please not her! Every time I see her it's like "deer in headlights". She was great in Meet Joe Black (LOVE IT) but I pictured a girl playing the part who is not so modelly...if that makes sense.
ThomDesignFan
She doesn't consider herself good looking. She wouldn't play it like that at all.

Remember Charlize Theron in Monster? I'd never seen her before, so when I saw her do the red carpet afterwards I was floored. Claire won't look like a model in the movie. She doesn't have the ego of being afraid if her hair wasn't in place kind of thing.

Maybe I'll look for another movie that's she's been in that's more like Devon, but that's not easy. None of the movies that's she played a large role in have done well at the box office. She's relatively unknown, which is one the qualities I was looking for.

If she can do what she did in a movie like Mallrats, I know she's got potential. I've put a lot of effort into this, I really think she's the one.

It's okay for people to say Kyan's Greg is hot, it's socially acceptable. And I'd feel comfortable saying it to Kyan in a more tactful way. But if say I don't think Thom's Greg is good looking how is that different? Aren't I just rating looks? I think the difference is because it's generally not socially acceptable. I decided to take a chance saying it here. I would Never say it to Thom. I'd flat out lie and compliment Greg.

Maybe the reason why it's socially acceptable is because we live in a society that places so much emphasis on looks and 'being attractive,' that saying someone is good-looking becomes the same thing as saying they're a good person, and saying someone is unattractive or 'ugly' becomes the same thing as saying they're a bad person? I don't think anyone was saying that here, just saying that society has some weird values when it comes to someone's appearance.

Quote:

Second hint is one of his famous quotes: "He's neurotic. He's needy. He's just like all the guys I date." I don't think he was kidding about that. Exaggerating probably, but sometimes he just blurts things out.

Is that really low self-esteem on Thom's part, or more of a comment on his relationship style? After all, if the boyfriends are the neurotic and needy ones, that places him in the role of the strong, stable caretaker, which doesn't immediately bring to mind 'low self-esteem' to me. Co-dependence, maybe.

Quote:

But as far as being happy for him just because he's in a relationship, I couldn't do that unless he told me he was happy himself. I'm way too much of a worrier to assume that he's happy. And at the very same time enough of an optimist to hope he is. Same as when anyone I love goes into a relationship.

The thing is, we can only go with what Thom says, like you said, and our own perceptions of the way things look, which may or may not be not accurate. Thom looks happy to me, in the pictures I've seen of him and Greg. He looks like he's having fun, and Greg looks like he's having just as much fun. Thom seems like a very protective guy, and he's kept any details about his relationship very private, which I think is just an element of that protectiveness. We can't say anything really true about the relationship, just how it filters through our own perceptions.

Quote:

If at any point I sounded defensive. I'm honest to ghod not. I love that we can discuss this. And I appreciate so much that everyone who's disagreed with me has done it in such kind way.

Ditto on the not being defensive bit.
LadySatine
I'm a total Carson(CIT) fan. It's for more than the one liners(which I quote at many moments and nobody gets) but I love his personality and sense of self.Plus the edge is a huge plus for me.

A close second is both Kyan and Ted.Ok I will be honest and admit I do drool a little over Kyan looks wise and Ted is just the smart type I seem to like
cats4
I couldn't agree ith you more, very well said. Thom has never revealed anything about his relationship with Greg or anyone else he has dated....I think his attitude about relationships etc. was the way he was raised-credit given to both of his parents especially mom....
cats4
You also are right...we really don't know the guys as well as we think we do, most of it is guesses, assumptions and our own interpretations...which is fine up to a point, guess we all look up to these fine gentlemen and wish we were more apart of their lives....
cats4
Carson does like to live on the edge....that's great,it really fits his personality. Carson is a great guy and likes to be out there and help people....I saw him on GMA friday,I think he maybe doing a week long segment???? He was great................

It's not even that she thinks she's good-looking or not, she's too model built. I pictured Devon as a Daria type (a la Mtv) - more of an average built person, pretty with quick wit. Someone average women could associate with. Jeanine Garafalo would be perfect for the part. An unconventional cutie, she played the "Cyrano De Bergerac" in The Truth About Cats and Dogs. Great movie! I don't picture Devon as someone who looks down on herself like Garafalo's character did, but Garafalo has more in common with the average woman; therefore, the avearage woman would find it easier to put herself in the place of Devon. Garafalo is also not that well known. She would bring the part to life.

well ... till next time Nat! i am so all over the place with posts - i can never keep up! how often do you check and post??? i have to get better!

Hey hey hey!!! Yes, you're absolutely right! After all, when you really have a FRIEND, this friendship lasts forever and is able to survive through EVERYTHING in this world! It's hurtful when something happens, but it's life, you know... We all make mistakes, but some ppl make more mistakes than other, don't you think?
Oh, I check the posts everynight, because it's the only time I have to access the internet, but after Feb 21, I'll only be able to come to the boards on every Friday and Saturday, because my classes at the university will start on Feb 21st, so... :-(
But I'll try to, even though, check the posts as often as possible!
Oh, by the way, TO YOU AND ALL OF YOU GUYS, I'M SOOOO SORRY FOR THE LACK OF POSTS HERE, BUT MY COMPUTER GOT A VIRUS AND IT 'DIED' FOR 4 DAYS!!! I HAD DAYS OF AGONY BUT THANKS GOD IT'S BACK AGAIN AND I'M ABLE TO TALK TO YOU GUYS AGAIN!!! YAAAY!!!

I don't see Ted in a parental role.....to me it seems like they all jokingly chastise eachother equally but just as friends.

Mmm... I'm a TeDelicious and I don't see Ted in a parental role also... He's the oldest, we all know that, but I think he's not a 'daddy' type of guy... He seems to be such a grown up and adult man, with adult thoughts and everything, pretty mature and I love it! hehe *sighs*

Okay, time to put on my 'notevayas' hat. Excuse me, but all 5 of these guys are grown up adult men, not Ken dolls, not teen idols. Each of them has had and continues to have careers in the 'real' world--Thom's design studio, Ted's writing for gourmet cooking magazines, Kyan's work in styling, Carson's work with Ralph Lauren and Jai's stage work.
It is fine to fantasize about them and it's fun to admire and adore them because they are unique people. But come on, we're not going to sleep with them and we're not goint to impact their lives with discussions/decisions about their partners.

This comes up every so often, and I keep forgetting to post that the same kind of fantasies, & discussions, etc. happens not just with the Fab 5, but on the actors, musicians, professional athletes, etc. Boards too. None of their fans have a chance either.

Millions of hot blooded women just like to share the fun of talking about their favorite hot guy. It's just an exercise in mental play. And ghod knows we all need a rest from everyday life. And if you go to some other Boards, ours is tame compared.

Hey, hey. I was less concerned about the their gay and we're straight part than the 'he's so grown up' part.
I really don't care much about any of the fantasies and I do scroll when I'm uninterested in something that's being said. But I too have the right to comment. And I wasn't putting any one down specifically. But it bugs me that we don't always treat these men as unique individuals, adults who have had careers for a long time before they became gay icons.
It's like the flap with Thom and Pier One. For some his leaving Pier One took on the tone of being cut from the high school football team. Get real! Thom has an agent and a manager, if his working relationship with Pier One was no longer satisfactory he needed to move on. Perhaps it wasn't Pier One who 'got rid' of him but Thom himself decided to explore becoming a spokesman for a more upscale firm. Whatever the reason, I doubt that either Thom or Pier One lost financially.
I will say it again and I don't care who I'm offending--the Fab Five are adult men with careers, relationships and talents. The aren't Ken dolls!

signladybc dared to agree with me...

You have a point, but there is another aspect that you are refusing to see. There is a difference between admiration and attraction and disrespect and exploitation.

It is usually women to point this out to men, isn't it? So you may feel that turnabout is fair play. It is not.

To ignore that a man is gay is significantly different than ignoring that he is a celebrity or beautiful or wealthy or whatever other reason you feel that he is out of reach. These men have come out as gay in a world very hostile to that fact. A true supporter would have admiration, even attraction perhaps, but not disrespect.

"So what is disrespect?" complains the man who goes to Hooters. "I respect these girls. My business pays their salaries. The strip club down the street is worse. The escort service across town hires illegals and is worse than the strip club. I love women! I'm just a hot-blooded man. One of a million.."

I also am uncomfortable with your use of the term "hot blooded". Perhaps you did not mean it as a racial stereotype, but it is often used as one nonetheless. You have posted repeatedly that you are Hispanic. I wanted to post with a strong intelligent woman, not a hot-blooded whatever..

Yes, celebrities are fair game. But what if you became famous for filming an aerobics or kickboxing class at that gym you say you work out so much in? What if women dominated your fanboards and speculated that they could change your sexuality? You know, even that wouldn't be as bad, because you would have majority law and all the institutions of society backing you. All sympathy would be for your feelings. No one would expect you to smile, suck it up, and be grateful to be accepted on any terms the public would accept you!

Sure I fantasy about straight male actors on occasion. Do I post on their fansites? I might someday. But I would be respectful, even as I extolled their virtues real and imagined.

There is a difference between respect and disrespect. It's hard to explain but easy to recognize. Maybe the type of women who work at Hooters become inured to the difference, but I doubt it. I do believe that most women with self respect would not want to be taken to dinner there because the ambience would feel oppressive to them, even though they would be surrounded by hot-blooded men. Maybe some would feel comfortable there. And maybe that is a shame.

I can't draw an exact line between positive and negative energy here, but I have a lifetime of knowing what disrespect feels like and so do you. As to how we respond to it, and deal with others with respect.. it is all about how we were socialized as children to have empathy or not, to have manners or not, to have taste or not. For example, do we post as adults on issues, or do we take cheap shots.. such as calling me a flamer because I protest this disrespect every so often, and challenge your "girls night out" mentality. Girls night out used to mean laughter and a few drinks in relative safety. Now it can mean nastiness and drunken violence if you believe the newpapers. Lack of self respect leads to lack of respect for others.

That is why two posts can talk about Thoms gorgeous hair and soulful eyes, and one is a tribute, and the other is coarse and rude.

Signladybc, I am so very sorry. When I saw that you had joined the conversation, I moved my response to you and Isa over to General Comments where I had been previously posting. Unfortunately, few seem to want to post me on issues, but seem to prefer to call me a flamer, when all I am doing is posting my opinion and ideas about
1. how an intelligent board has degenerated into a chat room...

2. how we could be more considerate in posting..

a. consolidating 2 or more ideas into a single post
instead of making 4 or 5 consecutive posts when
possible.

b. avoiding quoting many paragraphs of posts only to
say in 5 words of your own that you agree with
your friends, making pages of repetition on a 310
page General Comments 2 when we may not get a 3rd.

c. Having more sensitivity to the issue of respecting
the Fab Five as gay men in a world hostile to gays

d. Keeping the episode threads about Queer Eye mostly

e. Keeping intensely personal conversations personal.

f. Warning the younger more impetuous posters that
posts here are non-deletable, so that they can
more carefully consider what they want their name
attached to for the life of this site.

It was not too much to ask to discuss these issues. But then I was called a flamer. How dare I ask for discussion!
Isa informed me that a group of her friends and she had reformed the boards from those terrible old days when people exchanged actual ideas instead of nurturing each other through their feminine travails. Has she truly made this board safe from the exchange of ideas that she and her friends do not agree with?
TTB in a previous post said that the silence of the regular posters was their own fault and decision. TTB says that it is unfair to ask people to modify posting habits in any way.
TTB has now threatened to leave this board. But I cannot believe that any woman with over 2000 posts here and heavy investments in other QE boards would follow through on this 'threat'. I interpret this response as meant to have a chilling effect on anyone who wants to post on these issues. It's sad because TTB has never misrepresented my meaning or tried to intimidate discussion before. I hope I am misunderstanding but her words were very clear a few posts back.
It sounded like "Shut up about what concerns you because it doesn't concern me. If you don't, I am LEAVING! Again, I am sorry Signladybc that I left you in the line of fire..
