It seems that the first inspiration sparking many new folks to come to the Queer Eye For The Straight Guy Message Board Forum involves seeking a product they have observed on the show. Many imagine that the Fab 5 themselves might answer their question.

Since the previous threads became so arduous - and have since been locked closed - and will surely be pushed many pages away in the boards, I just wanted to leave a little "Hello" and "Welcome to the Forum" to any and all new folks that pass by.

Our beloved Gentlemen Five have
never made an appearance on these boards (to date of this post) - and it is unknown to us if they peruse this forum. However - feel free to ask for any information that you would like. The members here try to be as helpful as possible and perhaps we can help you find the answer you are looking for.

All products ACTUALLY named in an episode are listed in the link at the top of the page under "Shopping Guide."

If you'd like to write the show directly - the address for Scout Productions (as of the date of this post) is:

Queer Eye For The Straight Guy
    c/o Scout Productions
100 Avenue of the Americas 12th Floor
    New York, New York 10013

    [/list]

Please look at the date of this post - if it is very old, you will want to look around the QE site and check to be sure that it has not changed.

Greetings and welcome to the Forum - ALL.
Peace and grace to you - joy and love in your world today.

All the talk on the site about designers and clothes, including Carson's tips and hints (OK - I am a straight female but his advice transcends -sp?- genders) wants me to add some flair to my wardrobe. I am a petite (OK-small) woman with a hard to fit body. I am 63" tall (almost) and have an inseam of 32" and am having the hardest time trying to find dress pants that fit! Petites fit nicely in the waist, but the length is WAY too short. Regulars fit nicely in the length, but the was waistband comes up to my armpits! I have found some pants in the -choke- Junior's Dept. but I am 40 and need professional clothes.

Anyone have a designer, store, website, that specializes in hard-to-fit bodies? I am not hand with a sewing machine! Thanks in advance for any help!

It's amazing that you're only 3" taller than I am, yet your inseam is 6" longer. So, I take it you're leggy with a short torso. I guess my torso is short, too, so I'm all pelvis. If you look in the Juniors' dept, look for a brand called "A. Byer". These are designed for the office. They are heavy on the nylon and poly, if you don't mind that, but they look nice. I also have a problem with most pants seeming to swallow me up, but in these past several years, there have been more jeans, skirts, shorts and slacks with lower rises. You may be short, but you are not petite-sized, for bottoms. On the Victoria's Secret website, they have slacks that are age-appropriate and come in 32" inseams and a variety of rises. You didn't mention whether you were slim, regular or plus-sized, but I hope this helps.

I read in the Living section of the paper about how fedoras have been making a comeback for men. Yay! I have one, and I've seen some women wear them in the past year, but I LOVE them on men! Just like on old movies. Anyway the article said that some experts credited the return of the fedora in part, to Queer Eye!

**High 5's MGK**
T'ain't it wunnaful? LOL! I have a grey one and a black one that are designed for women - but they just don't have the stamina of those made for men.
I fell in love with Fedora's in High School. (I was such the theatre geek.) I'd run daily to the wardrobe department and scoop up the stiff silver grey Fedora in the back and wear it the whole while I was building sets and crawling around in the ceiling (Clouds) readjusting the fernel lights. I hated leaving it there - so I bought the girl versions the moment I saw them... and that was the 80's. I have a white MAN'S Panama Jack extrodinarily similar to the one Thom wears in the white pics. It just wears better.

COME ON GUYS! Hats are accessory and mystique! (I say more men should DEFINATELY wear Fedoras!)
Peace pets!

Mine is a sturdy thick felt material that holds its shape quite well and is embellished with a matching big flower to make it femme. I wish I had more chances to wear it. Whenever I've tried to wear it at work, which is business casual, people are like, "What's up with the hat?", but they also give it snaps. Maybe I'll wear it out to dinner or shopping. The good thing about women's hats is that for our gender, it's perfectly acceptable to wear them indoors. It's in better form for the fellas to take them off indoors, though. That's what my father told me as a child.

um, De- I can understand needing to keep the sun off your head outside.. especially sailing, but a fedora is not practical! Outside it would just fall off and get wet or dirty and it's rude to wear it inside. I think a cap with a brim is best.. throw it in the wash.. or even a bandana or headband keeps the sweat out of your eyes.

And for women.. What do you think of silk head scarves? With sunglasses.. it's a very mysterious, romantic look.. and the wind doesn't knock them off!

Hey guys, I'm sort of in a predicament that I thought that some of the guys on here could help me with. Well, my birthday is coming up, and when I have all my friends over, I want to have a great meal. The thing is, is that I'm a vegetarian, so therefore I want to have a meat-less meal... I wanted to have a dish that everyone could everyone could enjoy, whether vegetarian or not, but that doesn't have meat in it, yet I want it to be a laid back kind of feeling, kind of like a BBQ. Any future Teds' out there that could help me?

VERY Jackie O - I wish I could carry that off. Sadly, I've never been able to find a hat I didn't look silly in, and I'm completely hopeless with scarves.

Oh but Pumpkin - they're so devistatingly SEXY... it's the whole rainswept latenight mysterious romance of the Humphrey Bogart mystique! I know you guys can't wear them inside... (sorry) but I DO have the most awful weakness for men who wear them.

I have trouble carrying off the whole 'Audrey Hepburn' scarf and shades look... but I inherited many a car-scarf from my two Grandmothers... so perhaps I'll try to learn. (Now if I can just find a gent with a convertable... like the Maserati Cabriocorsa... and go zipping up to the Paladuro Canyon area...)

C'mon, Notey - you're a rainy-day person! You wouldn't enjoy the misty mystery of the Fedora and trenchcoat...?

Oh sweetie - I do love a good BBQ! When my mom was diagnosed diabetic... I took another look at soy (Tofu) based faux-meats. I remembered the vile stuff I grew up with - and found a little of the available fair was still as bad as I remembered - but for the most part - the current meatless "meats" like Tofu-dogs and Tofu-burgers are really amazingly wonderful these days. I even found a local Tofu sausage that I'm addicted to! Make sure to have lots of large chunk cut up veggies - (Idaho potatoes grill wonderfully - but so do sweet potatoes!) Carrots, bell peppers, sweet (red) onion, a rack of asparagus `a la the George K. episode... etc. There are TONS of great BBQ styled maranades now available by "Masterpiece" and "Paul Newman" that do a veggie and a faux-meat REALLY good! (I love the Jamaican Lime and Teriake flavors!) Have the veggie burgers and veggie dogs with great buns, chips, and all the fixins. You should have a ball - and I'd bet your meat-eating contingent won't even notice!
Have the dips and chips available - and do a fruit with sweet dips and/or even a raw veggie tray w/dips. I wish you a glorious Birthday and a wonderful party!
Peace darlin!

Ted recommended some soy recipes in one episode...can't remember which one but he did. Maybe you can find some soy recipes online that would be of use to you. For a laid-back feel, go for soy burgers or veggie burgers. I've had soy burgers and they weren't bad at all. Good luck!

Watch those long scarves if you should ever decide to wear them...when I was about six, I watched a movie about Isadora Duncan, and a convertable with spoked wheels, and a long scarf she wore around her neck...Superannuated should remember...Let's just say it was a freak accident.

It gave me nightmares for years...

I watched the movie later-it was a good movie, but definitely not for kids...

Hi again everyone, Thank you for the welcomes!

I love all of Ted's recipes on the show. The thing is I never seem to have the effort to try any of them out and so I'm reduced to eating pre-packaged meals which I am beginning to get a bit sick of! Do you guys think a home-cooked meal is best? I always thought home-cooked stuff is better than buying it out of a supermarket. I can make the odd meal like lasagne but sometimes I come home from work and shove some ready meal in the microwave! I'm going to try and make a bit more effort in the kitchen from now on but I just wanted your opinions on this. Have any of you tried out Ted's recipes and if so, which one do you think is best?

Any replies will be much appreciated, thanks. ~krazy4kyan~

I've got a recipe for a veggie lasagna that's just incredible. It's got a kind of southwestern thing going on, with black beans and jalapenos, and is both easy (it uses no-boil noodles) and delicious. It's not quite barbeque, but if you think you'd be interested I'll be happy to post the recipe. I'm a borderline vegetarian, but I've made it for real live vegetarians and they LOVED it.

Well... haven't made his specific recipes... but there is a home cookin' way to have "Pre-Packaged" that's not from a store...

Dear Teddy recently did a hip tip about making a complete dish of any type of meal - when you're just one person - and freezing the leftovers for a warm up later. Since I have back trouble - that's exactly what I do. I make a couple different meals once a week - and then make single sized portions and freeze them. I then have different options to microwave. (I wish I had one of those vacuum/air sealers) -- but I've been using little freezer - to - microwave plates with the snap on lids. This way, I can cook once a week, and do those dishes and only deal with the plates later. If I feel like cooking something else for variety during the week, then - cool! If I don't - I don't have to worry because something's already made. I can get fresh produce and not worry about preservatives.

Good luck with your cooking! Peace! --De

For over 20 years, my partner and I would come home, dead tired from work, and still enjoy a home cooked meal without the fuss of starting from scratch. My secret: "Rainy Day Specials." Whenever the weather was wretched, I'd spend the weekend stocking the freezer with goodies 'for later.' When we lived in Boston I'd haunt the many stalls at the Faniuel Hall Market for great meats and produce and here in Cleveland I do the same at The West Side Market.

Whenever I made a meal from scratch, I'd cook for four, not two, and freeze the balance for another day. A crockpot is another time saver. I'd do all the prep work the night before and keep it in the removable crock in the fridge overnight until I left for work the next morning. Cooking on low all day long, it exuded a heavenly aroma when I opened the front door after another hard day!

Although I'm only cooking for one now, I still use the same system -- always make extra and freeze. It works. It saves money. And I eat better. One of my secrets is that I always use square or rectangular freezer dishes. When the ingredients are solid, I pop them out, wrap in foil, and stack like bricks in the freezer. Saves a lot of room.

so sez Supe...stirring the sauce, a soucon.

I wonder if the evil warlock gave Jai a rainbow scarf to protect him from the elements while they were out on the dinghy. Naw, maybe that would be too bright and the spies on the yellow submarine might've been able to spot him. YES! I have watched Queer Eye from the beginning and I am hooked! I am a female in my 30's with three children, a divorce and a new fiance. I dont watch much television but I always find time for the fab 5 !! (thank-goodness our cable provider is offering TIVO by the holidays!!)
I laugh out loud every episode! Thom's decorating just amazes me, I love Carson's eye for fashion and his quick wit. (i wonder why I had an intimate dream about him and i) Jai is soo cute and sensitive, Ted is the quietest of the bunch but he has been loosening up (like when he let carson hang him from the closet door) and Kyan is awesome at knowing what direction to go with the hair..(also, I have a feeling that he and Jai have 'something' going on??)

Rjaye, I think you'd better be able to carry that canary yellow bowling bag for him. If he tries to, is's a sure thing that he'll lose one of his 'press on' fingernails.

Supe, up to his old tricks!

Hey all. I had no idea where I should put this. But I remember a few days ago there was an episode, I don't remember the name of the guy, but I remember he was the Jewish one that was getting back to his roots. All I remember was there was a short bit towards the end of the first half where Thom shows him this neat style of painting walls where there are a lot of vertical lines. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, and if so, can you explain a little bit more, cuz I want to do my room in that style. Thanx a gillion!
