Personally... I can't wait to try it!

It is really good!!!! Portabello, tomato, onion, 2 kinds of cheese.....

Ya I really can't wait to pay 10 times as much for something I could make 10 times as well at home in about 10 minutes.

Couldn't disagree more. I don't think he would be so tough if he had someone 3 times his size to deal with instead of picking on Marcel who is a 1/3 of his size. I have no respect for bullys; Cowardly at best.

Cliff called out Marcel on his distracting and seemed genuinely supportive of the other chefs. I don't see the Bully refrence?

No, he said he would go punch him in the head which is the complete essence of bullying and completely out of line for someone his size vs someone Marcel's size.

Actually, to get the facts straight, he said "if I was Betty I would have puched him.." So he's not a Bully because even if he was a smaller but ample cheasted lady he still would have drilled him. And rightly so ; )

Hey Lia,

I'm beginning to thik that we need to mix up a HUGE bactch of TC cocktail and pass it around.

Do you think you can help pass out the goodies before I have to call it a night?

Well, the "PR Punch" recipe's been retired for the season, but I do have a nice new brew I've been dying to try. It's called "TC Toddy," and along with dark buttered rum and ginger beer, it's all spiced up with cinnamon, clove, allspice, pepper and just the tiniest hint of cayenne. It's warm and waiting, and I've got a band new tray, so COME & GET IT!!!!!

Lia

Wowie zowie, that sounds yum, thanks!

You're welcome, SamanthaMc! It's actually a recipe from "Elle" magazine for an iced drink called "Dark & Stormy Night"-- I tweaked it, and it's really quite good, especially for the holidays! I added the spices to a simple syrup, mixed it with the rum and ginger beer, and it turned out awesomely!

Try it, I think you'll really like it!

AMEN SISTER LIA!!!!!!! I feel that the largest contributors to the problem of obesity - from the angle of dining out - are portion size and frequency.
I can remember when a dinner portion was just enough food for the average diner. Now, it is twice that amount per plate. When I dine out, I tend to order an appetizer and a soup - and that is all I can handle.
The frequency that people are dining out is also an issue for those with weight problems. The restaurant industry generally hasn't designed meals that should be eaten every day. Many these days are dining out three or more times a week.
These are the consumer's requests and actions. Why does the restaurant industry get blamed for other's decisions?

At 30, I'm suprised neither her "maternal instinct" nor her "biological clock" has kicked in.
Either way, "hate" isn't a nice word to throw around. Though I can't claim to be an angel in that department.

Marcel should tone down a bit so as not to irritate his fellow chefs. I don't blame Betty for losing her patience with him. He's been annoying since episode one. I hope he'll be more likable in the coming episodes.

Thanks, G.O.! It concerns me that the bulk of Society, and Americans even moreso, blame "fast food" and "dining out" for the prevalence of obesity among us, when it's really no one's fault but the individual mouths closing around that food so routinely.

Just like modern society wants to erroneously blame television (aka the "new babysitter") for the new wave of violence among our children, we want to blame everyone and anyone else but ourselves for the collective spare tire we carry around our waists.

Well, it's time we stopped and smelled the Starbucks, and took the blame for our "supply-and-demand" attitude with regard to dining. We made "fast food," so let's not blame the technology, but the ones who crowed for it to begin with.

We're a society of convenience--and admittedly, I'm as much a part of that society as everyone else--but you're not going to put an end to that society in your lifetime, so let's stop bashing what we made as a whole.

TGI Fridays is no worse than Chilis, Applebees, Bennigans or Chi Chi's, and they're all only a step away from Wendys, McDonalds, Burger King or Taco Bell.

You want to condemn them? Condemn them all. But don't pretend you've got a corner on "healthy eating" unless you've got a brand new, patented diet you've tested over years, and have suddenly decided to share with the world in an attempt to eradicate the damage the last 30 years have done.

And for the record? I love both "healthy eating" and "fast food." I strike a balance between the two, and have found it to be a "happy medium" so far.

Lia

I HATE being fat. Which is why I no longer am. I HATE being around children that are spoiled. So I walk away. I HATE being late. So I leave early. I hate a lot of things. But, there is only one PERSON that I HATE.....and he deserves it. It's just that the actual feeling of hatred is far too strong to throw around once you truly HATE someone or something.

But, I have always gotten a chuckle out of the "my kid beat up...." bumper stickers. And babydoll tees are sooooo great at making the chest appear even bigger! (Though, the loudest catcalls I ever received were when I was hosin' down the mats in baggy chef pants, kitchen boots, and a sports bra - *chuckle*)

Actually you "lost" as soon as you started on your c*ck size rant. As soon as someone goes there about a guy they never meet on TV they might as well have boxers that say "Warning Bitter Man with Veinna Sausage" on the front of them. See I even worked food in there ; )

Are you stupid or something? You think you won because I made a remark about bullys being derivative from the inadaquacies of thier falice? (a very common and agreed apon way to disregard punks who push around people smaller than them I might add) Yet in the same breath you try to apply the same to me. Seriously just run along you can't possibly justify someone Cliff's size physically attacking someone Marcel's size so you, and you first, resorted to this name calling. Face it you are wrong.

I agree wholeheartedly. And I'll add..... I think the worst four-letter-word in the English language has become DIET. So many people think that some "magic diet" will cure the ills they have done to themselves. It's too bad they don't listen to the first part of those old Subway commercials. "He would walk a mile...." Uh Huh. He exercized and ate healthier. Selective hearing is an epidemic.

I have to disagree. They aren't all just the same. It may depend on the individual resteraunt in your area, but there are definite differences.

Top teir of fast food would be places like Wendys and Taco Bell (anyone else notice how much Taco Bell has improved in the last couple years?). McCrackolds and BuggerKing aren't even close. I dont even consider those 2 edible food, and always find myself saying, "freinds don't let freinds eat McDonalds." when someone tries to drag me there.

As for sit down dining, an Outback Steakhouse or a Ruby Tuesdays is miles ahead of an Applebees or a TGIF.
GrandOpening
This is getting a little overheated. Cliff was referring to what his reaction may have been had he been in Betty's shoes. And, often times cooks talk about hittin' each other and never actually would. From the viewpoint of a female cook who's cooked with such guys for years, I think this may have been taken out of context a bit.

Bingo.
The quote was "if I was Betty...". The only person who voiced a desire to do violence agisnt Marcel in that episode was Mike in a Jokeing manner.

I don't see how you can be making a total across the board charater judgement based on those quotes.

I think the massive size difference is important here. Not so funny to joke around about when Cliff would litterally just about kill someone like Marcel if he actually hit him. Cliff is that quiet type too that seems so nice and well mannered, but those quiet guys are the most vicious of all when they hit their breaking point and snap on someone. Nobody knows Cliff well enough to really say if he was just joking or if he really could get pushed over the edge or if he would turn violent with the cameras off of him. I guess we will have to "watch what happens" (ooo Bravo you should give me a job) because I don't think Cliff or Marcel will be going home too soon.

Clearly our little back and forth got to be over the top with it all, but thats the interweb for you. Cliff was moving up on my favorites list but he plummetted with that comment. Lets just leave it at that.

Pizza just wasn't on the roster when I was growing up. My great grandma, who doubled as my babysitter, owned a diner in Southern Ohio, so whenever I stayed over at her place, she offered an array of "healthy foods," but smothered in "gravy goodness."

Chicken & Dumplings, cauliflower with buttered onions & cheese, smokey cheese strata, homemade biscuits with honey & orange butter, French Meat Pie with beef, pork, potato and spices, hot German potato salad with sweet vidalia onion and horseradish mustard, buttermilk waffles with lean pork sausage or silver dollar pancakes with real bacon bits, both topped with heaps of real butter and Canadian maple syrup, spicy sausage gravy over crisp home fries ... and always--always there was piping hot coffee & cream, with biscuits dipped in and slivers of sharp cheddar cheese to top it off each morning at dawn.

That's "comfort food" for me, and always will be. Don't even get me started on what she made for the Holidays, LOL!

Agreed! This so-called "food" is just too synthetic to even eat. Fine dining just doesn't happen when there's a big clown out front.

On another subject...

I agree with the concensus that Marcel may have a bit of an attitude..but I like him. I think he's a creative genius and he uses his attitude as a cover. He's revolting, different & intriguing all at the same time. GO Marcel, you rock!

There is a clear difference between a sandwich from McDonalds that isn't even as big and has less calories overall, but is twice as junky with more calories coming from fat and not even half as much protein compared to a comparable sandwich from Wendy's. For one thing when I am forced to eat McDonalds I have to order 3 of them to get full compared to the one from Wendy's.

Something else I found interesting just now is that Subway with thier big health food advertising had some of the highest fat/calorie content on the list. Funny how they always want you to compare a 6 inch (read half a sandwich) to a full hamburger and always compare it to the worst hamburger out there (read McDonalds/BurgerKing).

TGI Fridays is no worse than Chilis, Applebees, Bennigans or Chi Chi's, and they're all only a step away from Wendys, McDonalds, Burger King or Taco Bell.
