Ah, Thanksgiving. A wonderful holiday for foodies. Roast turkey, warm gravy, tart cranberry sauce, savory stuffing, sweet potatoes, spicy pumpkin pie...when a chef's got that kind of big, hearty, multi-course meal to play with, what could possibly go wrong?
Well, this is a Top Chef Thanksgiving, so of course *lots* of stuff goes wrong, and much of it is for interpersonal reasons, not culinary. Frank threatens Marcel with a serious beatdown. Elia comes close to having a breakdown and decides to smear food all over herself, on purpose. Our awesome guest judge
Anthony Bourdain even declares that he wants to adopt Mike. (You probably think I'm kidding, but I'm not.)
So, here's a Very Special Top Chef Thanksgiving, with all the trimmings. Enjoy, and if you haven't yet checked out Bravo's huge round-up of Thanksgiving-related blog posts and recipes, may I suggest you visit
bravotv.com/thanksgiving and have a look-see?
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

At first I liked Betty but now it seems shes starting to kind of act childish and throw temper tantrums. I think she should be the one going home tonite.

My guess is Betty is gone this episode.

Hey, Marcel isn't such a bad guy, it's just the hair. Speaking of hair, what ever happened to the hairnet law we used to have in the old days?

As much as I like Betty and I think Marcel & Michael should go home before she does, I think she had better corral her "stress relief sessions" and not go off like she did when she said Carlos should go home. At least Elia did it behind the scenes and came back and brought it home.

Also, I think everyone for one reason or another doesn't like Marcel, but I have yet to see one thing he does that warrants the anger.
I mean a) how in the world was he supposed to cook in that kitchen with someones toothbrush in the way? ugh I'd have moved it too.

Betty seems to be coming unraveled and true he DID offer to help her and look at the thanks he gets.
Come on cheftestants leave Marcel to heck alone!!!!!
Marcel I'm now hoping you win the whole show!!! Good Luck!!!

LOL the stress is getting to poor Betty.
If Carlos isn't gone this is a travesty.
Just like they said on the Simpsons "You don't make friends with Salad!"

Betty is really showing her nasty side tonight; I've been fed up with her since the start, and now she is really being mean and self-righteous.
Marcel--while annoying, really did have the best "concept" tonight; His arrogance isn't that bad, it's sort of amusing to me.
Carlos took the easy way out. But his dish was better than betty's dish.
But in the end, Betty should go!

I cannot believe Betty blamed others for her crappy brulle. The way she turns on people is amazing.Marcel was the only one that followed what they said.I don't think with Marcel it is so much arrogance as it is confidence.I think Betty should of gone just because of her attitude.Too bad maybe next time.

Oooohh.. CARLOS!!!!
No! I knew Michael was not going home-- Anthony Bourdain LOVED him!
I know that the feud between Betty and Marcel will continue.
or will it be Frank and Marcel?? Fighting with his "prom date"? I guess a second date may not be in the cards. LOL!

Ugh, I'm not sure I agree with that decision. Carlos at least tried to make something look nice, even though it did'nt turn out. Betty's was just blah and she tried to blame Marcel for it.

November 22, 2006 - 08:02 PM
Bummer...Carlos went out; Though not "innovative," I still think his salad was more "inventive and innovative" than Betty's dessert.

November 22, 2006 - 08:02 PM
Gotta agree with leaving Marcel alone, the salad was lame, the potato thing was fun, but it is amazing that no-one was cutting edge except for Marcels' . Why and how do you put out a dish that fails as the creme brulee did? I think that it is amazing that these chefs can even create failed dishes.

I think the show sets us up to dislike Marcel. He's better than the image. Frank was out of line, and Betty showed her true character tonight.

Frank is a child, if you cant stand the heat...never mind leaving toiletries in the kitchen.

I was truly amazed with Betty tonite. The tirade was unreal. She wasn't keen on saying anything until Carlos spoke up when asked who should go home. I may have sent Betty home tonite based on tact alone.
(Get a grip it's a TV show Betty and look at all the exposure you're getting even if you don't win. Isn't your grilled cheese already on the Friday's menu?)

So a turkey roll with stuffing in the middle and cranberry jello is cutting edge? I guess it is if you are one of the "designated villains."
Look closely at the closing credits and you will see that "Bravo is consulted on certain elimination decisions."
This may explain why Marcel (The Joker phoned, he wants his hairstyle back) received de facto immunity despite his humdrum effort.

Hey People, Marcel never did anything wrong. Frank and Betty are both so immature, they should go home and grow up. I can't believe America is so stupid that they can't see that Marcel never actually started any of the drama he is involved in. Marcel should learn to stand up for himself cause obviously Frank and Betty are old untalented wierdos.

I used to like Betty too but I have to agree with the pp, she has been acting very immature and seems to throw tantrums every episode. She has started to bother me and I hope she is eliminated. Betty just goes against anything Marcel says even though the meal would have been much better if they had coordinated.

Yummy!
Kinda figured he'd go. Doesn't seem he pulled his weight. Besides didn't they say something tasted burnt in the salad?
Kinda felt sorry for Marcel this episode.
Betty and her consistency problems... first cookies and now creme brulee... hmm... interesting how she blamed it on her helpers tho since she said she was the one who decided to use the ginger that burnt. I like her but she wasn't very nice tonight. Thanksgiving cooking tends to do that to me too... LOL
Liked that Bourdain was cool to Mike... bout time someone gives him a little credit. At least he's not throwin people under the bus or threatenin to beat em. Still don't think he'll win the whole thing but hey "IT DIDN'T SUCK!"

Marcel is a DB. Plain and simple. He's one of those holier than thou, my S#!t doesn't stink people that aggrivate to the point of wanting to give them an Atomic Wedige. Talent wise he seems less savy and much less polished than Stephen from last season with even more atitude.
I know I may be out on my own here but I like Betty channeling her inner psycho lunch lady. Much more entertaining than the Treasure Troll.

Another interesting twist episode.
On the dishes alone, it was a tie between the 3 on the chopping block. No cutting edge to any ... but if judged on personality, too bad Betty "toss de bodies under de bus" didn't pack up her knives and cut out.
I find Marcel innocent and amusing, confident as a child and not arrogant. Betty put that label on him and attacked him from the beginning. She'd attack anyone, it would seem after tonight's demonstration. I liked her at first, she reminded me of Cynthia, but now I find her tedious and duplicitous.
Frank had been gaining my attention and support, although his blindly falling into the "stir up the anger" trap over his toothbrush was a letdown...he charged down the hall like a mindless being...so easily manipulated.
Marcel was the only chef who understood the challenge and went cutting edge. His inexperience kept him from the win.
I think he should have won on meeting the parameters of the challenge.

LOVE Anthony 's humor!
D'a guy should really do culinary stand up!
But I cant help but wonder if this is top chef , or top cook?
If they are having the problems they are having now , what would they do , if you ad on ALL the other respoibillities that come with the possition of a chef?

Are you serious? Marcel brings it all on himself! His mouth is writing checks his skills can't cash! This is the first time he made a dish that "didn't suck", and it still didn't go over very well. In the first episode, when he was walking around asking everyone if they want to see "his knives".
Anyone who styles their hair to look like Eddie Munster is just plain asking for a beating!

I agree. At first, Betty's expressions were kind of cute. Now her rubber face, pleading look and fake smiling is getting EXTREMELY irritating and condescending. She is becoming bossy, overpowering, and not at all what she seemed at first. Marcel is looking better all the time...

You are right! Marcel never started anything. Betty started on Marcel first. I can't stand Betty!!!! Such a phony!!!

I feel sorry for Marcel .. are they all so intimidated that they have to get him out quickly? Betty is rude, mean and a phony. I was sorry to see that she didn't get "aufed" tonight. Between her pounding on Marcel, and Frank threatening to rearrange his face, I'm surprised he can compete at all. I hope he wins or at least, goes to the finals.

Marcel is completely amusing to me but Betty has turned into a cheap soap opera...meanwhile, Miasels sits in the weeds...creative twist again tonight with the judging, 5 winners in QF.
