How did you think this shabby dad turned out for his daughter's 16th birthday? Discuss here.
Depoetic
You know, honestly - age is setting in... because if I don't post right after watching the episode, I draw tremendous blanks... and since I was curled up with cough medicine, I'm not sure how accurately I will remember this - so, please be patient with my ramblings.

My first reaction to David's home? What COVEN does his wife belong to there in the UK? Certainly not a WHITE wicca group! YIKES!!! Wow! Bright blood-red walls with skulls and dragons et. all - then the blue kitchen and green "poker" card toilet seat? Can I take a stab at this and say the MB called for help against his WIFE's frightening decore???

I thought the daughter's Birthday was wonderful motivation. The British Fivers were most attentive to both the MB AND the daughter. I thought how much they're improving with regaurd to their interpersonal contact skills.

I liked how well Dane re-did the apartment in the calming sage greens with the stunning blow up portraits of the wife and kids. No, he's no Thom - but he still did the WHOLE house - and carpeting alone costs a freaking fortune!

I LOVED and coveted that AMAZING chocolate cake! I thought the dance lessons (and gift to "Pineapple") were wonderful.
I like that these guys DO go shopping with each other. It is a comraderie that I'm missing since Jai has become more independant. It was wonderful to learn that Jason is a dancer. He certainly reminded me of one. (He also looks familiar...)

I thought the grooming segment was far better handled than in the past few shows. I loved how Tristan sat down with David in the bathroom to SEE what the routine was - AND that he pointed out it was a necessary evil to get in the habit of caring for your skin! I also loved that he arranged a double spa day for the MB and his growing girl.

Peyton had me laughing when he was using the fish for a boomerang... but darling - families have budgets and 100% fresh 24/7 just can't be done and still pay the mortgage and utilities without being wealthy! ...And that house didn't strike me as they were terribly flush.

Julian and THAT DOG! I thought the clothes were ok... I just haven't seen him dress the boys or the MB's in anything that would make me pant the way Carson's wares occasionally do. The clothes were more updated than he had... and it pleased his daughter, so all's well that ends well.

I still love their loft. It is quite the fun assortment of items. Very festive. I saw a glass bowl in Michael's Crafts the other day that looked like the one they had their citrus fruit displayed in, and I was tempted to get it for my kitchen.

It was a cute distraction. Thank you for the giggles before I hit the sack, Bravo! Peace to you all, darlings! --De
signladyb
Well, like De commented last week, I want to watch more and get to know these guys.
I'm still not crazy about them but they didn't bother me as much perhaps because of our discussions or maybe they did tone it down.
What's with the dog? Cute and obviously well behaved but in the beginning I thought the cameras were more focused on Lulu than on the MB and interaction with the UK5. And, while in the end the decorator (DANE?) I've REALLY got to learn their names! took up all the red there was a point in the beginning when I wondered if Lulu was going to take up the red carpet herself.
At first I was also a little put off by the focus on Jade more than her dad but I guess since the day was to celebrate her it ended up okay for me. In fact I was a little envious at times--wish I had ever had such a day of pampering with my dad.
I love to watch a real barber shave with the straight razor and the whole nine yards there. The new hair cut and shave really took a lot of years off.
David was called the henpecked husband and while I didn't see it, perhaps his wife's overall decorating of the house, "He buys the paint and I do the rest" is where that came from. I thought at first she was going to go ballistic and I think David and Jade thought so too but overall I think she was fairly gracious with the huge change--except for the kitchen! Still, she made up for it in the hotel room. That incident on the bed and the great pictures throughout the house of her and her kids showed her as a loving and fun person. And the new wedding ring was also awesome and apparently her own idea!
I like the culture guy and the way he listened to both Jade and David. He is a pretty good imitation of Jai. His trip to the dance studio and his gifts of a membership and tickets to FAME were inspired. Although, again the focus was more on Jade than on David. Still, his goal was to find ways to spend more quality time with Jade so I guess the focus on Jade's interests satified that goal.
I really don't care for the food guy yet. I'm not sure if it's his almost skeletal countenance or that I haven't really seen him in action. Chocolate is pretty easy to recommend for a teenaged girl and the fancy presentation was more about WHERE it was purchased than any creativity on David's or Justin(?)'s part.
I agree with those who commented on the subtitles. Too much! A little translation once in a while for us naive Yanks, but whole sentences? Unless there is a lot of background noise, no thanks.
I did like the clothing for both David and Jade. They looked great! If I was his wife, however, I'd be just a little jealous. Still, she did an excellent job on herself so maybe she knows she doesn't need couture-aid.
Okay, side note--I've almost finished all the TickTick posts, I almost cried today reading all the kudos and accolades to him when he signed off. I hope he will come back when school is out. It would be fun to read his take on his British 'cousins.'
Cheers for now,
SLB

I'm sorry, but I just can't get into these British shows.
This one was better than last week, but,It seems I'm straining so hard to understand what the heck they're saying
that I'm completely missing the story line. The show also comes across as a cheap imitation of ours. I'm sure the budgets are quite different and that makes a big difference,
but our SG's and their homes look sooooo much better after their MB. Maybe its because our guys are way more talented than theirs. Who knows.......maybe its just me.
Depoetic
Ok Star darling... here are the on screen translations we have so far... (Personally, someone needs to give me a translation for "Shaggy on a Vespah!") If there's a different meaning for the British word in the States - or at least in Texas - I'll put what it would have meant to me in pink. I'll ask questions in blue.

English Word = American Translation
3 1/2 Stone = 50 pounds So what's a stone equal to in USA measurements? A 100 pound person would be - 7 Stone? 200 pounds = 14 stone? Hummm... this could catch on!
Collared = Grabbed (To me? Arrested.)
Dummy = Pacifier
Holiday = On Vacation (To me? That's just the date on the calendar.)
Worzel Gummidge = Scarecrow
Autocue = Teleprompter
Piss off = Get out
Get your kit off = Get undressed
Gobsmacked = Stunned
Chuffed = Absolutely Happy
Size of a 5 pence = Size of an American Quarter or $0.25
Welly = Give it some Ooomph
Cuppa = Cup of Tea
Big Porkies = Big lies (I won't even go there!)
Marks out of ten = Score out of ten
Bit full on = In your face
Spot on = Perfect or On the nose
Chilled = Relaxed (We use the same term.)
That's a Ripper Mate = Australian for "That's excellent, my friend."
Buckley's and None = Australian for "No chance"
200 Pounds = $365.00 USA
Ticked = Checked off (Very Angry.)
Tube Station = Subway Station (I'm not going here either!)
Underground = London Subway
Want to look Smart = Want to be well dressed
Jumpers = Sweaters (Here - jumpers are ladies dresses.)
Boob Tube = Tube top (Television.)
Pouffe = Ottoman

Ok, Star... I'll probably have more translations next Wedndesday... or would that be Friday? The thread will probably go up late Thursday... Oh well... Hope you liked the listing.

Do you know where each of the UK gents are FROM? Peyton occasionally has an American slant to his accent - and Tristan and Julian often lose me. I understand Dane and Jason pretty well... They just seem to have slightly different elements to their accents.

Hugs hon! Peace! --De

watched this one start to finish & didn't make it even halfway through the restaurant-remake guy from this week's US version. the look on the dad's face when full-frontal combover culture guy (who is so, like, if sean hayes & paul lynde had a tall, balding english baby) gave the girl the dance lessons -- was just ... ah. and designer dane is just ... aaaaaaaaah. loved it.

(should lose the subtitles, though. so contrived.)

I noticed that the UK version isn't as complete with thier closing credits as the USA version is. I have attempted to contact Living TV about it - but their only information is the QEFTSG CD. The television network has no references. I wish we could help - but unless someone KNOWS the song upon hearing it - we haven't a clue.

Welcome to the forum, anyway. I hope you feel free to come visit often! Peace and grace to you! --De
ThomsTeddyBear
Ok, what was wrong with the wife? She had that place looking like the Hobbit Hole from Hayell and then she didn't like the great job Dane did with it? Heck, I was even saying thank you when he finished! The daughter was absolutely darling and I liked it when she was dancing with Jason...who still has a slammin' body!

I liked seeing my boy Tristan working on hair again...I don't care whose hair it is, just work it! David came out looking great after the shave and cut - he looked alot younger and his skin looked smoother even from tv which doesn't always do one justice.

Ok, this is going to sound weird because it's a weird thing, but I loved that pointy-triangly spiral chocolate whatever-it-was! There, that's my guilty pleasure, lol

Funniest moment? When Julian scared the daylights out of Dane with the furry thing, lol! He jumped a mile!

Overall, a nice epi and my daughter and I learned more new words to write down in our notebooks

P.S. - KEEP THE SUBTITLES...some of us need them and I'd rather have them ready for those that need than those that don't.
MrPuffin

I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh when I read this. Personally, I am more likely to say 'that's excellent my friend' rather than 'ripper mate.'That could just be me though - I go through phrase phases and right now I seem to be in a 'my friend' stage. Bye all,

According to the different articles I have read, Julian and Tristan are British, Jason and Dane (my fave!) are Australian, and Peyton is American. Altho I have to say that to me Peyton sounds slightly Irish at times lol.

No wonder Peyton sounded so different! (in a preview of an episode, it showed him saying "They better take this back and say it didn't work" --referring to a book-- and he sounded American)

Thanks for the information!

Sure no problem! I just wish I wasn't having so much trouble finding information on them. I'd like to know more personal facts like if they have siblings/favourite food, movie, colour etc/what got them started in their respective areas of expertise, things like that. So far all I've been able to come up with is some birth dates and a little background on what they've done career-wise before the show.

Does anyone happen to remember the name of the shop where they got that interesting "chocolate cake" thing that they gave to the daughter? I know it had a really long odd name, and its on the tip of my tongue, but I can't remember it for life of me...

I totally agree. Life's been pulling me away - so I haven't posted like I wanted, but I did look forward to rattling off about last Wednesday's episode... Perhaps the infrequent comments on UK have led the BBB to stop creating the threads. - So, do what WE usually do in that situation...
HIJACK THE THREAD!!!!
Just put in the Subject - EARL's name and go for it with comments! (I'm supposed to be hunting things for my folks on the net - so I can't right now... but if you DON'T Hijack the thread - I will later!)

so I will finish the hijack tomorrow ..

Yep, I Hijacked another thread. Must of gotten the idea long ago by De. Anyway, we used to do this all the time on one of my boards. I'll give it a try here.

It's a Kyan Trivia Contest!

Which EPISODE AND WHICH SCENE did Kyan speak two foreign languages in?

Winner gets an Amazon.com gift certicate of their choice for "Beautified", "Off the Cuff", QE Wall Calendar, OR QE Daily Calendar.

1. Must have been a registered member since December 19th.

2. First person to guess right wins.

3. Must read & agree to Amazon's gift certificate fine print.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...2246930-7462352

4. One guess only per person.

5. Post your guess here on this thread.

Good luck!
ThomDesignFan
Obviously that "certificate" is suppose to be spelled right. And I forgot to mention my Monday is going to be busy, but I'll try to check in around Noon.

I gotta go shopping for a while. Everybody, Remember to write:

1. The EPISODE

2. And The SCENE

I'll give you an example:

"Kevin D.'s Episode when Kevin was getting his hair cut."

Anyone can guess, who knows you might get lucky.

I thought some extreme Kyan fan would've got it by now. Must have been harder than I thought. Okay, here comes the Hints & Clues.

Here's some help: The original air date was in 2004.

Next Hint at 9:30 am PST tomorrow, Tuesday.

Yeah, I thought it was cool and for some reason reminded me of my old board contests. We had one about once a month. So fun you never knew who was going to have one, or when.

Yep, besides English, Kyan spoke two different foreign languages in one scene.

People who play word games are going to have an advantage tomorrow in deciphering the clue. Not word games exactly, something like that, I can't think of the term because dinner's ready. I'll try to think of it afterwards.

I thought of the word: rebus. But it's not going to be a rebus, it'll be sort of a word game. I'm pretty sure someone will get it right after that. If not, this is taking way too long for you guys to wait, so at Noon PST, I'll give a REALLY good hint.

Ok, so I know this is probably really obvious, but it's driving me nuts trying to work the answer out so I need to know something...do you mean that he speaks the 2 different languages in the SAME scene of the SAME episode? I've been reviewing some tapes and found him saying things in different languages, but they're all in completely different episodes. Good grief, why am I even bother asking? Surely someone will have worked it out with tomorrow's clue before I even wake up. Oh well.

Hi! Here's the 11:30 am PST Hint!

I'll try to explain this for people who haven't played word games. This is like a word riddle, it's not meant literally. Use your imagination and the Message Board.

Here's the Hint:

1. When I first posted this contest, we were sitting right on top of the answer.

2. Now the answer is just about a couple inches away, but keeps moving.

Here's a Tip:
If you have the tape handy and fast forward commercials, you'll have time to find the scene before Noon. Especially if you also fast forward scenes Kyan's not in, like shopping with Carson, Thom, Jai and Ted.

Good luck!
ThomDesignFan
KYAN Trivia Noon PST Hint

The last clue you'll need!

Right before A Very Queer Eye Thanksgiving and Christmas,

Who did the Fab 5 give a SECOND TIME AROUND?

It looks like a lot of people didn't tape this show. I'll end this contest at 11:00pm, PST today, Tuesday, Dec. 21st to give people a chance to get home from work.

And start a new, easier trivia question on Thursday, Dec. 23rd at 11am PST.

Okay, just wanted to give you plenty of notice.

I left out some info. If no one wins the current contest by 11pm, then I'll have another replacement contest on Thursday. If someone does win today, there won't be another contest on Thursday.
