As a fellow "newbie" it is intimidating to enter the conversation. By the time I opened on Thursday morning there were 80 pages of board to review and the timely filed blogs to digest.
Intially, the JUSTMEAOD all caps accomodation took significant reading to find. (Might help if you refreshed folks at the start of each episode).
Posters who post and post and post and use the same three lines to sign off every time-even after a one word responses- should lighten up chastizing fellow posters for alleged use of redundancy.
Every once in a while a fresh angle is found in the mudane world of redundancy.
IMO Marcel uses his annoying personality to obtain victim status. I am amazed at how many people feel sorry for him.
This is contest with significant rewards not junior high school. There is no prize money for demeanor. After the mutiny on Tiffani at last season's finals it would seem contestants would work towards earning the repect and comradery. It is pretty common knowledge-even number of contestants equals team challenge.
Hopefully, Marcel, Cliff and Elia will be one restaurant team
as Marcel has let us know he does not need a leader. After the disastrous performance by teammates Elia and Cliff it would be interesting. The restaurant challenge was one of my favorites last season.
Raison Justme types that way because of disability..so either scroll by or read he is quite funny and our resident porn writer...

Are those guys just trying to make excuses now 'cause they see all the hate ????
Ahhhhh
What the hell is this kid doing that is soo terrible????
Chef Carlos below:
Hi !!! Happy new year!!!
Weeelllll, Marcel is very grating (no pun). No, it doesn't warrant all this hate (especially from the more mature group). He is about 30 % jerk and the rest is human. And yes, Betty did stir up the muck. DON"T LET THE SAM HATERS WIN. He is very sweet and talented.

Thanks, I will do that. My prawns are thawing and I've got almost everything else I need. I've already decided on a rice flour batter like a very light tempura so that is set, but when making my list out of stuff to pick up Sam's recipe doesn't tell you what exactly to put on the popcorn other than it refers to "chili pepper flavored popcorn".

Did you notice that when they all went outside and were not going to help him, even though Elia said they should all help, she was gone too. Wonder what that was, peer pressure amongst the kiddies?
When I watched the eppie again tonight I did not see this again, did I miss it or was it edited out? I don't recall seeing Elia not helping but distinctly remember seeing the rest refuse to help him serve...or at least I thought? Yea...nay??
Evening Grace. Haven't had a chance to watch it again, but I may have seen it in the previews, not sure. Do know that when they were outside, didn't see her in the kitchen with him. Could have just missed her though. will watch again soon and see what I can see.
I'll be watching again as well when I get the chance but for now I am wondering if I heard Mikey correctly when he was telling Tom he "was gonna batter up these carrot chips"? Truth be know I am dying to try those and Sam's dish tonight for dinner...so if anybody finds that chip recipe make sure you post it here, Thanks!!!
Keep an eye on LeeAnne's page. She usually has most of the recipes on there.
I would think that whatever tangy/hot spice you liked would work. Just sprinkle it on like salt. Could be wrong, but worth a try if no recipe available. Let me know if it tastes OK.

Anyhow, even though I've watched this season since episode 1, some have chosen to insult me and other 'newbies' by claiming I have started a 'war' or that I'm an agitator joining late in the action. What is this, [censored] communist Russia?
I realize I may have re-opened redundant issues, so sorry to have wasted your time.
I felt the need to offer my summation of things thus far because I felt strongly about it. SINCE epidode 1, I have felt the attacks on Marcel - his unilkeablility as obvious as the weather - unwarranted. I see things as they are, and personalities as they are (edited) on the show.
I take back the "final word" though. Even when I wrote that I knew it was stupid to claim such a thing.

Honestly I probably wouldn't eat Betty's cooking. IMHO it always seemed a little limited. I know she prided herself on comfort foods, but it seems like she made several mistakes with the simplest of dishes.
No, no, I wasn't trying to single anyone out, honest. I've just seen several posts since Wednesday that questioned Sam's ability to run a successful kitchen, and several more stating they would never, ever be caught dead eating in a restaurant where he worked, let alone where he officiated in the kitchen.
I'd probably eat at pretty much any of the contestants' restaurants if given the chance. None of them have really struck me as the type who'd pee in anyone's cocktail or put a booger in anyone's tiramisu, so I'd actually like to get a firsthand taste of what only the judges have gotten a chance to sample.

Yesterday my hubby (Drew) and I picked up her ashes and Drew insisted that we go to the shelter to look at pups. We found a spunky 13 month old coal black Labrador. As soon as she saw us she twised around in circles before flopping onto her back to demand a tummy rub.
The person who gave her up named her, I'm not kidding, "So Sorry". We immediately renamed her "Amy" (after the Kevin Smith film. Okay, so I'm a little odd), which she responded to immediatley. She has to be spayed and neutered so we won't get her until the 19th but I'm already feeling better.
So, if I offended then I'm sorry.
That's great, Bear. Amy will give you hours of free entertainment while you train her. What a lucky pup!
When my hubby & I picked out a black lab pup about 15 years ago, we took the one that came right up to us and snuggled with our daughter. Her name was Shadow (I know...not very original for a black lab) and she hung around our daughter all of the time.
It will be 'a good thing', I know.

I liked "The Descent" a lot. The acting was good, as was the screenplay. The direction was awesome. I always find that some of today's best film makers cut their teeth on horror films. Then they go on to another more adult genre.
I'm a long time horror fan, having cut my own viewing teeth on the old horror classics from the 30's to the 70's when I was a kid. It's kind of sad for me to think of the horror genre as a "cutting teeth" stage, because I do love the genre so much, but it's sadly true that very few horror films will ever get the recognition they deserve as "good."
Quote:
I really thought it was kind of ballsy that Eli Roth decided to stay in the genre with the excellent "Hostel" after breaking out with "Cabin Fever".
I'm an armchair virologist, so "Cabin Fever" was a joyride for me. "Hostel" was good, but I could've done without that "eye-snip" scene, just because I get squicked out by anything having to do with eyes being injured for some reason.
I think Roth truly loves the genre and paying homage to it, and for that I adore him!

Sith is on in the living room as I set the table. Drew should be home soon and I liked Sith a lot, as did Drew. In fact, I think we may be the only people who liked Sith as much as Kevin Smith, who is an online buddy.
I'm a "Star Wars" geek, but really only of the original trilogy. I remember standing in line for opening night in May of '77. It was the highlight of my 11 year old life at the time, and Harrison Ford was the "Solo" of my dreams for years after.
The ensuing films have all been good (well, maybe with the exception of "Attack Of The Clones"), but for me, they'll just never touch "A New Hope," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of The Jedi." But, then, that's just me.

Sam's "moment of bad behavior" extends all the way back to the Camp Glucose olive oil incident and the refusal to name names; siccing a drunken Frank on Marcel in the toothbrush incident; deflecting blame for a last place toad(gray eggs) in a burnt bagel onto Elia's frozen waffles; to calling Marcel a "Ratboy" and a "Gnat" with Marcel within earshot while shopping. Sam is best described as a sh-t stirrer and is unable to handle himself with grace while under pressure such as being in the loser's group. In the end Sam may win the Top Chef title, but in my mind he's nothing but a Top Greaseball.
Will probably get BLASTED here, but...whatever. I agree with you about all of the childish and out of line things Sam has done. I even agree about him being a "greaseball" (Don't really care for that unshaved, unwashed look) However, as much as everyone would like to say, "we all lose our tempers", "we are all human", blah blah blah, in the real world, if this were an actual work place, Marcel would have an excellent case for harassment, including sexual harassment after Ilan's taunting remarks about his sex life, or lack there-of. Yes, we all get mad, and yes we all lose our cool at some time. But in the work place acting like this would get you fired.
ok, stepping down from the soap box
Nah nobody's gonna' blast you...You have the right to your opinion and I can even understand it
and I even partly agree with you both.....My problem is I watch like CNN and I watch
a show like Crossfire and one side states the case and I'm like ...Yeah...ok they are right..Then the other side comes on and I'm like .....yeah.. ok they are right.
Sam is just the hate flavor of the week...Next week he could give someone an egg and be redeemed.
Look if Jeffrey from PR can be forgiven....anyone can.....lol
John.... I mean..yeah he did the olive oil thing and a few other things but he's playing a game.
At least that's how I see it....Also I think Sam was still really mad at Marcel for dissing him at judges table when he was the leader......he was pissed and rightly so and Marcel had the right to say he didn't think Sam was all that great as a leader..These two are in this to win and they are doing what it takes.
PLUS....sigh....we so little of what really transpires.
Ilan....immature????? Well YEAH....he's only 23 for gawwds sakes....He's a friggin' baby.
Did you all see how he was kinda' shyly grinning at judges table when Tom asked why he slammed Marcel's dish and
even when Marcel said can you come and help me he was grinning....He's a baby.
ALL of these cheftestents have done something egregious
or not so kosher as far as I'm concerned..Every one of them except Sujay....lol
But none of them have done things that were like really HORRIBLE and unforgivable.
Sam did border there though.
Not in public Sam!!!
It was cruel and mean and he should have taken him outside or done it later.....Sam is tall and handsome and probably is somewhat arrogant and cocky.
He's been getting accolades in NY for a long time......I just think there is WAY more there than we are seeing that Marcel is doing which pushed Sam over the edge OR..Sam needs to check his ego and cute arse at the door.
I was just thinking:
You know how they all come in like "I'm gonna win"...I'm so talented"....like Frank and Josie and all the I have mad skills on PR which is kinda shtick and for promos and to stir the pot...Well to even try out for this show you would have to REALLY think you were ALL that...You would have to really
believe that you were the next TC and have a big ego.
But these peeps are only talented in their own realms mostly...Now they are up there with the big 'boys'.
Collichio has won the James Beard award numerous times and is a revered chef...Most of these guest judges are top notch award winning famous and the best chefs in America. The creme de la creme if you will..I mean they had Keller on last year..He's supposedly the best chef in the 'world'...Then these peeps get slammed and wonder why????
It's like minor leaguers playing in the major leagues...Josie just keeps saying "I'm so talented"..Well she may be in her world but obviously these peeps are no where near as talented as they all think they are at least not yet.
All of them have f&cked up food wise...but as far as food only...not personality or how they behave..Sam has consistently nailed it pretty much. Cliff too.
If they are really looking for the next TOP 'CHEF'...get chefs..not BBQ'ologists and line cooks.
What was Mia thinking she could be a TC????
How can they put someone like Mia and Betty and
even a babe like Ilan up to be judged by the likes of
those culinary wizards???

what I saw on this episode reminded me of bullies on a playground. It was pathetic.
Whenever I hear the term "bullies on a playground," I'm always reminded of the Our Gang and Little Rascals comedies I used to watch on UHF after gradeschool. It makes me think of big, bad Butch threatening to beat up poor Spanky or Alfalfa after school, and while I know that bullying can take forms other than the physically threatening ones, that's just the image that comes to mind whenever I hear the term.
Webster defines a "bully" as a "blustering, browbeating person; especially one habitually cruel to others who are weaker."
That Marcel is the "weaker" element in the equation I guess has to go undisputed, since without a weaker opponant, there can really be no clear "bully." So, for Sam to be a "bully," he'd have to be not only blustering and browbeating (which he's perhaps been in one out of 9 episodes so far), but habitually cruel, and I'm sorry, but I just don't see or buy that.
Has he been an opportunist? Definitely. Manipulative? Probably. Sneaky? Perhaps. An instigator? That's debatable. A bully, though? I just don't think one instance of letting someone get to you to the point where you boil over can be construed as bullying.
Up until this episode, Sam has shown himself to be a talented professional (and please don't even rehash the "Frank's toothbrush" incident, because Sam was only going on what he was told when he spoke) interested far more in cooking than in engaging in drama.
Ok, he lost his cool. Once. Unless you can say that you've never, ever once been badgered to that boiling point by someone else in your entire life, you have no real cred for expecting him to be a superhuman with a hard on for infinite peace and good will in the TC kitchen.
Yeah. And pretty much ditto for Ilan.
Call them bullies on a playground if you will, but no one stole Marcel's sippy cup, and no one hid his bankie. He needs to establish himself as someone who has equal footing in this competition, not only in the culinary arena, but in the interpersonal arena as well. So far all we've really seen him do is get all quiet when there's an "issue," and to me, that's not the sign of someone who can effectively manage diversity and conflict in the workplace.
Damn. Theer I go, being all long-winded again. Apologies!!

what I saw on this episode reminded me of bullies on a playground.
Apologies!!
I'm stealing this from Brillke
I <3 this post!
Hee! Thanks, Kristl!! 'Tis most appreciated!
Yeah well, Sam and Ilan did not just "lose it once". Ilan acted like a 12 year old, insulting Marcel's sex life etc, and long after Sam "lost it" (yeah sure everyone has done that) he participated in that completely immature refusal to help Marcel serve his dish - even after Marcel helped others serve theirs. My comment about bullying had nothing to do with the "blowups" that people had out of aggravation. It had to do with the continued high fiving, refusal to help, insults and exclusive behavior which is exactly like kids on a playground or in the lunchroom. As a teacher I see this crap all of the time. I expect it in middle school kids, not in professional adults. You can stick up for them all you want, but there was no excuse for that behavior. You can be a quiet person all of your life, but if you murder someone you still murdered someone - it doesn't matter how nice you have been up until then... "gee he was always such a quiet guy"
I could care less how Ilan and Sam acted until this episode. My comment was about their behavior in this episode. It was despicable and far more out of line than anything I have seen out of Marcel (not that I think he is the greatest guy in the world
) I think situations like that show how much integrity someone has - and in that case Marcel showed more than most of them.
Enough said... :-)
Sorry Green tea...But I don't think one act of 'bullying' means they are always that way.
I agreed with IC's post because she did point out that Sam was flawed also....But all along he has been kinda' laid back actually.
We don't know what these peeps are like in real life.
I adore Sam and I think he was totally wrong that day.
TOTALLY...But I have lost my temper many times.....I am not a bully....All I think is we need to keep open minds here as to what these peeps are like in 'real' life.
Marcel may really being some terribly annoying and
back stabbing things and Sam may have lost it or maybe not but one time does not a bully make.
That's all I'm saying.
It's not good to get so angry when peeps disagree with you as we ALL have very strong opinions here.
Sorry....I'm arf penny awake!
Greentara.
LOL My name is not Greentea, it is GreenTara.... shows how carefully you read stuff on here
(by the way
means sticking your tongue out, in case you aren't familiar with it... something you do being silly and playful...not nasty) I don't see where I am getting mad at anyone. I don't see anything in my post that sounds angry at the people who responded to my post. It would be ridiculous to post on here thinking people are all going to agree with you. And, if you take the time to read my initial post, I said right off that we are only shown what the producers want us to see, and that I am well aware that a lot more is going on than we know about. Lastly, I never said that those people are bullies. Nor did I say they are always like that, or what kind of people they are in "real life". Please read posts more carefully before you respond
I said that their behavior reminds me of bullies, which it does. And if you watched the episode, it was not just one blow up... it was hours of them basically ganging up on him. People ganging up on one person constitutes bullying as far as I know
We punish kids at school for bullying, even if it is the first time. That behavior is not ok. I could care less how they acted before. As I said before, I was commenting on their behavior in this episode. I never said they are horrible people, or that they are always bullies or anything like that. This is why I usually don't post on these things. People read your posts fast and then come at you all half cocked, without really listening to what you are saying. Most of the people disagreeing with my post did not really hear what I was saying, but reacted to little pieces of it that they took out of context of the whole post. LOL, but that is always what happens on these things, so no big deal, par for the course.
Take care I am not mad, just making a point calmly and as rationally as I can this late at night. Sweet dreams!

I'm not a Sam hater, but I do hate the way he's acting. Does that mean I wouldn't eat in his restaurant? Heck no! I'd probably eat at Satan's restaurant if he made good food. I can see it now....Beelzebub's Bistro.
And on that note, I apparently really know how to shut down a board, eh? Posts have flown all day long, and I get home, post, like, once and everyone disappears. Way to give a gal a complex, eh?
I'm thinkin' maybe I should stop posting those pix of myself here before I scare everyone into hiding!
Lia
Hey IC. I usually sign off about 9 pacific time, sign back in at about 3 am and will have like 200 posts to read. Sheesh, does anyone sleep! (O: Then if I happen to log on during the day...another 100 posts. Sheesh, doesn't anyone work? (O: Then, evening comes and 20 posts. Sheesh, where did everyone go??? I am not working right now so have tons of spare time but when I do go back, will be mornings and evenings.
Now, I am not sure whose restaurant I would eat at. I don't really like super fancy stuff (foam, speet, etc) and can't get the idea of being served a platter with a little spot in the middle that is my meal. Love a good steak, shrimp, but no snips and snails and puppy dog tails. I want to KNOW what that is on my plate. I know, I am a big sissy.
I know... escargo and osso buco....
AMEN! We are going out to dinner tomorrow night, 10th anniversary, and guess what!! A steak house. They make the BEST fried dill pickles..mouth watering! Nice steak, cooked medium, salad, baked tater...maybe a margarita..aaaaaahhhh it all sound so good. AND I know what everything is on my plate! (O:

Hey Kristl! Yes, there is a lot of flip-flopping on who is the A-hole of the week. Can honestly say I don't blame Sam for being angry about Marcel's comments at the judges table when they WON the challenge. I know we are just seeing a part of it, but knowing they will be doing the editing, you would think these morons would be a lot more careful about what they say and how they say it. Guess my round about comment is that with all of the PC laws and issues out there, ie sexual harassment, harassment of any kind, would get a person fired. However, if Sam was running a kitchen, and Marcel was working for him (yes, I know...never gona happen (O: ..) but, Sam would probably just fire Marcel and let it go at that.
Now to Sam's outburst in the store...can you imagine what that clerk was thinking...."get these psychos out of my shop!!! " LMAO I know it would have scared me to see it.
Also agree that the choices this season are questionable at best. Line cooks, caterers, barbequers...not chefs in my eyes. Time will tell, but I think these judges will have their work cut out for them trying to find a TRUE Top Chef.

a show like Crossfire and one side states the case and I'm like ...Yeah...ok they are right..Then the other side comes on and I'm like .....yeah.. ok they are right.
Yeah...I think we keep forgetting....Judges table takes hours they say..They all godda' sit around waiting ...Waiting for producton to set up before the show then after a long hard
horribly hot day with no sleep.
Cramped in those quarters with the same peeps all the time..It's very unnatural.
If you see one person eating more 'rice' (like on Survivor)
you want to kill them...(Marcel using all the bathroom time and not even seeming apologetic...or being really selfish other ways)
I know it's been said over and over.......how this can crack you mentally but I think it can.
Hey ........Happy Anniversity!!

Thanks, I will do that. My prawns are thawing and I've got almost everything else I need.

Happy Friday evening. I hope everyone's doing well tonight.
Just thought it might be fun to see everyone's take, so if you could cast any of the chefs from season 2 in the roles of of the 7 deadly sins, who would play each role? And how would you cast those same roles using the chefs from season 1?
And in case anyone's forgotten them, the sins are:
Lia
This was fun..here are my choices:
Envy... Marcell based on is insecure actions
Wrath... Frank... basewd on his threats to Marcell
Pride... Mia... "I'm the only member of my family etc"
Avarice/ Greed ... Otto ... free lychees
Gluttony... Betty..."I do comfort food"
Sloth... Mike ... who else?
Lust..... Sam... the person lusted most after by some posters on this board.
1. Pride.......Carlos/Gay Pride
2. Avarice/Greed.....Betty/ hogging the pepper mill
3. Envy......Emily/Her comments about everyones wins
4. Wrath/Anger.....Mia/at Cliff

I'm not a Sam hater, but I do hate the way he's acting. Does that mean I wouldn't eat in his restaurant? Heck no! I'd probably eat at Satan's restaurant if he made good food. I can see it now....Beelzebub's Bistro.

Sounds delish the meal......Have fun and drink one for me.
On a
I am sure it does get to these cheftestants, all the waiting, the heat, rooming with people you barely know, trying to keep the other guys from stealing your wifes' panties...(O:
Thank Kristl on the annivsary. I am SO blessed with my hubby. Kind, gentle, supportive, and sensitive..wow, still brings tears to my eyes to know how luck I am. Had weigh loss surgery a while ago, (health reasons mostly, but I am sure a little vanity too, as with all who have this done) and will be wearing the same clothes I got married in tonight. During all my recovery and all, he was amazing. When I first asked what he though about it, he just said he loved me no matter what I decided to do, and would be there and he sure was..I think he is my HERO!!!! OK, got to go get some tissue to wipe my teary eyes.
Awwwwww
You sure are blessed cause there ain't may out there
like that!
I hope you give him a nice dessert after dinner.......lol
LOTS of whipped cream.
As a matter of fact...do all the 7 sins on the guy
)))
He deserves it!

Sam has always been an instagator but would never take responsibility himself.
The person who I have the biggest gripe with is ILAN.
He thinks he's so cool especially with his shiny forehead and all those pimples.
ILAN is the next person to GO.....I'm not a fan of Marcels'
but the way ILAN treated Marcel was deplorable.
Yes, Marcel is conceited but he's never denied that and in fact he's been the first one to admit it.
ILAN is a PSYCHO, and tries to come across as a Goody-Goody but Marcel did nothing to instagate ILAN's wrath on the most recent episode and the way ILAN kept saying such mean things(e.g.) He's probably never had sex with a woman"
All of ILANS actions are UNPROFESSIONAL and when Chef Tom asked him why he felt the need to slam Marcels dish he said "Oh,,,I was just kidding with him" What a BIG LIAR...He's such a chickensh*t. In front of the judges he's all Mr.Nicey Nicey but is a wolf in sheeps clothing.
ILAN NEEDS TO GO NEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good thing reality TV and the real workplace are like apples and oranges, eh? Amazing how in the reality TV "workplace," overdramatic behavior is not only fostered, but often encouraged and even expected!
My guess is that most people, realizing the difference between the two, would adjust their reactions accordingly.
