The hypocrisy is in your dissing those who have asked us to vote for Marcel for reasons other than that he is our favorite (I think "ridiculous'" was the adjective you used), but you have no problem, indeed serve as a conduit, when Sam asks us to vote for him for reasons other than that he is our favorite.
That is hypocrisy.
If other reasons are good enough for Sam, they must be good enough for everyone else.

Certainly agree with you in general Swiss, but in this case, for many of us it is more like recent American political elections where you really don't like anyone so you vote for other reasons....and as far as I am concerned that's the American way...we all have our reasons. If some want to vote for Marcel as a protest vote, so be it. If some want to vote for Sam because he needs the cash to take a long vacation, so be it. Whatever.

If so, then you certainly have seen Sam's lack of courage in addressing is own problems with Marcel, instigating others to do his dirty work for him.. The only reason Sam addressed Marcel to his face in this last episode is because Marcel called Sam on his unprofessional behind-the-back sniping. The issue with Sam's "Bipolar Bettyesque" outburst is that he was out of control, over the top, and in a very public professional place where the TC crew may need to return. It was embarrassing to watch, and must have been humiliating for the rest of the TC chefs. The real problem with it, IMO, was that, by not addressing Marcel in a constructive manner previously when whatever Sam's problem with Marcel began, he let it build until he handled it in probably one of the worst ways he could have.
That's unprofessional, and not indicative of good leadership. I know his cirriculum vitae says he's an executive chef, been a co-owner in a restaurant, etc., but I question how successful he was in those positions. You can't scream at a colleague in a public place and still retain the respect of those around you.
3. About the Ilan-v-Marcel egg incident...Marcel had obviously gotten to the kitchen first and made his eggs. Why should he immediately take his eggs out of the pan just because Ilan asked him to? It couldn't have been more than a matter of minutes until whatever bread product Marcel was making was finished (unless he got up so early that he baked a loaf from scratch, which is highly unlikely, IMO).
4. I still cannot understand that--even with the enormous pressure the entire group is under--one person's comments could be so freaking overwhelming. In life we all learn to work with people we don't like, and we all learn we don't have to be bestest buddies in the whole world with everyone. To let one person's comments get under your skin to such an extent, IMO, indicates a problem in dealing with difficult people when under pressure...and surely being able to successfully do this is a skill a top chef should have, no?
5. I think the reason both Sam and Ilan so eagerly joined the Bipolar Betty Gang was because they were both feeling insecure about their performance. They had been (mostly) the Golden Boys until then. Like Laura Bennett in PR, anybody can be even-keeled when you're the teacher's pet and one of the stars in the show. But, like Laura, we really saw the complete picture when Ilan and Sam were no longer the Golden Boys.
Look at Mike--he's been called out by the judges so often it's gotten routine, yet he (by what we've seen so far, at least) hasn't stooped to the petty childish tactics of Ilan and Sam.
6. There is no excuse for bully-gangs and childish petty vindictiveness in a professional setting. It had a negative impact on the diner's experience, and I think that is why both Tom C and Gail made a point of asking Ilan why he made the snakey comment to the diners about Marcel's dish.
7. I believe you are trying to reframe the argument of those with whom you don't agree. Nobody has said that themselves or Marcel never "went off" on anybody in their lives. The only thing we have to base our opinions on is what we see on the show. What we've seen so far shows Marcel to be flawed, no doubt, but he has put up with an enormous amount of [censored] from Betty, Frank, and now Sam and Ilan without stooping to their level in retaliation. He has not pulled a Bipolar Betty or a Raving Sam. His inappropriate remark about not needing a leader was made in front of Sam and the judges, and not in front of the diners.
I wouldn't be so sure about Sam and Ilan being in the top 3 at the end. It seems the producers are revealing more of Sam and Ilan's true nature now, and it may be to justify why they are eliminated in the future. It's obvious that Tom C and Gail were not happy with Ilan's attack on Marcel. It was so bizarre (about as bizarre as Ilan's Brokeback-Kitchen fixation on Marcel's sexuality) and inappropriate, it must have embarassed the judges present. And I don't think Gail and/or Tom C like to be embarassed in front of their peers.
Last season it was really clear who the TC contenders were (except for LeeAnn being sent home...that came as a real shock).
This season--not so clear. I don't think any of them are hot choices for TC. Most of the remaining contestants have pretty much been consistent in doing well from a culinary point of view. But, clearly, there is no place for the kind of childish antics we saw last week in a kitchen. I also think Marcel needs to improve his communication skills because, clearly, he often doesn't think before he speaks.

The only thing I would like to add, is when Ilan was call out by the judges for criticizing Marcel's dish, he backpeddled and said he was just "poking fun". Well, he said the same thing about the dessert in the kitchen when Marcel was making it -was that meant as "poking fun" as well.
If you are going to be a sniper, then at least have the balls to admit it. Oh wait, that is the definition of a sniper, (in a class called WORKING WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE) it is to do the attacking and when caught, pretend it was a joke.

Since I have had trouble with my stomach, I can hardly drink coffee anymore and when I drink it it has to be in small amounts. Tonight I was looking for something warm to drink and my brain went into overdrive. Yes contrary to why my students think I do have a brain. I made myself a batch of hot chocolate, all warm and foamy (had to use that word even tho it reminds me of you know who). It was so good will do that more often. Here is my toast, may you have a great cup of hot chocolate too.

You want something that is really lush...try a Starbucks made with heavy cream and whipped a little. When I was drinking coffee I treated myself once a week to that and immediately had to start a new diet. It was awesome.

Well, I agree with you Swiss.
Since none of us really know what happened during those 38 days, except the chefs, and they each have a unique viewpoint, it's impossible to discuss it with any certitude or clarity. What I do like though is the way most have intuitively reacted against the bullying as being unfair (regardless of the cause) as well as intuitively sensing that not all is as it appears with Marcel.
And so we mostly reveal our own vices and virtues as we assume to know theirs.
Funny how almost none of the discussion is about the food. And the food itself has been rather lackluster...there were so many good recipes from last season and so very few from this.
I will highly recommend Elia's mushroom soup! I've served it to several different groups of friends and there is never any left. (Always best to make two batches for any group over 4).
Nevertheless, I enjoy the debate about the underlying ethics etc, and the many reasons why people take one side or the other.
I look forward to seeing how it plays out in the remaining shows.
Certainly it is increasing their ratings and publicity!

Thanks for the compliments... the pic was taken at Alcova lake near Casper, Wyoming about 5 years ago. We had a party out there for all the people we met through the WY chat room on Yahoo! Yes... that's where him and I met.
It was (and still is) a blast to put faces with screen names. You're right... you get a mental picture of a person when you talk to them online and its so cool to be able to see them "for real." Our party was a huge success... over the course of 3 days about 150 peeps made their appearances. It was verrrrry interesting to say the least!

Should you mix alcohol and opiates? Of course not. Do people do it? Yes. All the time. Can you die from it? Probably not with the small amount Mike likely had. Its not like dentists give you hundreds of Vicodin to take home. He may have had 30 or so, but unless he took all of them and drank a couple bottles of WHISKEY, I highly doubt he would have died.
Nasty alcohol/narcotic hangover yes... death no.
I too feel that the producers could not be held responsible for a the vicodin/alcohol death. I agree horrible hangover. I would say that Mike was playing with fire but that was his choice. He seemed so subdued under the influence of vicodin, no bouncing around just get the food made and on the plate.

Turns out we were wearing the same shirt a vintage Tattoo shirt I have. I went in fixed their Lattes and hot choclates for the kids.
Well this woman was extremely beautiful but the husband looked familar we joked about the fact he got the Shirt from Wicked Orleans were my girlfriend Jen works..He loved the store..a guy jokeing in line said you should tell him where you got your hat and I laughed and said at the same store..well it was fun seeing the kids having the greatest time you could tell this was a family that really loved each other. After 4 Lattes they said their goodbyes ..I turned to Bird who was working with me and said boy she was absolutly beautiful. A cusomer looked at me and said don't you know who that was? I said No she said that was Kate Blanchet...boy did I feel stupid being an actor lol.
WOW Actor..sound exciting...even if you did have a brain fart on the recognition. Even though all of our adventures were VERY different, I think a great time was had by all!!

If it's what I think it is then yes it is easy,tasty and a good use for stale bread. We made one for Christmas morning.. the good thing is you have to put it together the night before so that the bread can soak up the eggs ; the final result is much like a quiche. You can put just about anything you want in them.

Reminds me of an email I got this morning
The Lone Ranger was ambushed and captured by an enemy Indian war party.
The Indian Chief proclaims, "So, you are the great Lone Ranger. In honor of the Harvest Festival, you will be executed in three days. But before I kill you I will grant you three requests. What is your first request?"
The Lone Ranger responds, "I'd like to speak to my horse."
The Chief nods and Silver is brought before the Lone Ranger who whispers in Silver's ear and the horse gallops away. Later that evening Silver returns with a beautiful blonde woman on his back. As the Indian Chief watches, the blonde enters the Lone Ranger's tent and spends the night.
The next morning the Indian Chief admits he's impressed. "You have a very fine and loyal horse but I will still kill you in two days. What is your second request?"
The Lone Ranger again asks to speak to his horse.
Silver is brought to him and he again whispers in the horse's ear. As before, Silver takes off across the plains and disappears over the horizon. Later that evening, to the Chief's surprise, Silver again returns this time with a brunette even more attractive than the blonde. She enters The Lone Ranger's tent and spends the night.
