I think it's just plain envy. If Marcel weren't so talented, no one would give him the time of day. Most great chefs (all great creatives really) provoke a lot of envy until they are established, sometimes not even then. It's almost a necessary by-product of the isolation creativity demands. It's polar opposite is Rachel Ray,....popular as hell and making money over fist....and as she admits, just an everyday cook.
Whether MArcel wil be a great chef remains to be seen, but of all the chefs on the show, he's the one with the most promise, regardless of his non-conformist personality.

About Mike's miraculous change this week...I kind of assumed that one of the other chefs had helped him out (because of the horrendous tooth-extraction experience, etc.). It was just so much more like Ilan than it was Mike.

I think Mike has learned a lot during the season, but this dish really looked more like Ilan than Mike, and Mike hasn't shown that kind of depth, especially in presentation.

Mike has a very good education in gourmet cooking. I think personally he was just skating along all this time not doing anything bad enough to get kicked off but just good enough to keep him moving forward.

As for the extraction, I once had two wisdom teeth removed and went back to work the rest of the day and returned again the next day.

I choose to believe he probably made the winning challenges all by himself.

I think he is the sleeper in the group. Who knows?

As I said, I think Mike has improved a lot, but the dish just seemed more like Ilan's style.

I would think it would be a nice gesture to help out Mike, under the circumstances. Getting a tooth pulled is never fun, but Mike's seemed to have been worse than anything I've ever gone through.

Anyway, didn't mean to slam Mike, and I don't think there's anything wrong with helping someone out when they are hurting.

I can assure you that I won't be signing this petition. Having a mentor is great but what has it done at "Project Runway"?

It's made sure that flaming mediocrities like Wendy Pepper, Chloe Dao and Michael Knight make it to the finals. Now these are smart people and listening to Tim has made what they did during the competition better but the mentorship Tim gave them did very little good, in my humble opinion. They're still the same limited talents they were upon entering the competition. I mean "Hip Hop" and fashion are two words that should never appear in the same paragraph, let alone the same sentence. See what I mean?

I like the idea of the chefs having to make their own decisions and sink or swim. Someone like Miguel Morales (and I use his name because I love the guy and he CAN cook) will work for talented chefs and, if they're smart enough, and pay attention they will one day be a top chef but having a mentor won't do that.

Therefore there isn't enough money in the world to get me to sign a petition like this. Sorry.

One last thing, I may be the only person in America who doesn't love Tim Gunn. He's a smart man, but a little too glib and a little too darn "helpful".

And I still can't stand Ted Allen. I read the book. Hated it.

Gotta pretty much disagree with everything youve said Bear. I adore Tim Gunn and he himself said he isnt allowed to tell the designers how to "make it work" but he can throw out suggestions and they choose to listen or not. Oh, dont be disses on my Michael Knight. Sure, his runway show wasnt top notch but he is young and has major skills.

I think Top Chef needs someone in the kitchen to keep an eye on the chefs, remember the Camp Glucose fiasco? I enjoyed Ted Allens appearances, both this season and last, very much and I think he should be the host.

Oh, I also disagree about "Hip Hop" and Fashion" not being in the same sentence. Why not? You loved Jeffrey, still hated his designs, right? He represent a more "punk" look, right? Why cant hip hop be represented in the fashion world? Im not talking Ecko,G-Unit or Rocco Wear, I mean "Fashion".

Tim Gunn is definitely the glue that held PR together for the past 3 years, imo. Even though PR and TC are by the same creators, they don't have to be the same formula.

Tom's role as judge precludes him from being the mentor. I don't think it would work well on TC.

I think TC has a very successful season this year, and it's done an excellent job portraying different elements of food, while being entertainment, showcasing human behavior, competition, and it's a wonderful show! Kudos to the entire
cast, production staff, and creators.

Last week's episode was amazing, from the provocative theme of the "Seven deadly sins" to the hour of capturing the human elements. It was profound, almost like "Lord of the Flies."

The unrelenting, systematic persecution of Marcel, by nearly everyone except Elia, is cruel, but fascinating television. Maybe it's not awesome for Marcel, but, I'm sure not one of the chefs realizes how small, petty, neurotic and ridiculous they look when they persecute him to the degree that we've seen.

Ilan and Sam look the worst right now. Last week was Ilan's fall from grace. Yuck. What a turnoff to see his neurosis, and blaming Elia for his own lousy deseert skills. Sam fell the week before. I don't think either one of them is a top chef because of their attitude, pettiness, mediocrity and not taking blame for their own shortcomings as a cook. Instead of stepping up to the plate, and getting better, they blame others. They are not winners. Winners learn from their mistake and take the high road.

Betty made herself look like a lunatic before she finally was sent packing. Frank made himself look like a thug! If these people act like this when cameras are rolling, when they would be on their best behaviors, what kind of bullies are they in real life?

Mia, who was not well-liked, actually transcended the childishness of the others, to do a selfless act.

Carlos and Mia were both eliminated, but, left with
class. I can't say the same for Betty.

Betty left looking like a very small individual, not exceptionally talented, and very obnoxious, to the end. She may feel blessed, but, she showed America her true colors as a person and chef. I don't admire her at all because of her behavior on the show.

It was interesting how Ilan had to blame Elia (friend of Marcel.) Betty and Frank were nearly psychotic towards the guy. They chose a scapegoat, and blame him, or his friend, for their own shortcomings, neuroses, and mediocrity.

It's ironic that Marcel has not only held his own, but, has a fan base, rooting for him to win based on nothing more but the obnoxious and cruel persecution of him by the others! They all look so mediocre when they do it, too.

It's a window into human behavior and competition. It's Middle School behavior, and it is an accomplishment that the producers can capture this beautifully, even at the expense of the brave contestants. I give them all credit for guts to go on TC, but, only Elia looks like someone I would work for, or respect.

The end result is that it's a great season for the viewers, and when the show took a few weeks off, during New Years, people couldn't wait to see the next episode.

This show doesn't need to change anything. It's a very successful show, along with PR. I give the creators, producers, judges and contestants tons of credit.
