I have been keeping up with what's going on there, and I gotta say, after seeing the initial response to Katrina (the first 5 days, specifically), I knew it was going to be really hard on the people in NOLA for a long time. I'm so sorry about your friend. I saw her picture in the Times, such a tragedy for her family and friends, so senseless. I know you've had too many losses in the past few months. Hang in there, my friend. Power to the People!

Quite true. That's why I said it explains so much about him and the reactions he gets. Whether it is accurate or not, I have no clue. I just prefer trying to find a positive explanation for the behavior of someone who does not exhibit any aggression, only annoyance...and yet at 26 is a master chef under one of the great chefs of our day....something hard to believe if he was merely an immature twit, but quite understandable if he has AS.
And the AS indications are strong. Like when he responded to Ilan's dig about if he had ever heard someone call him selfish and he gave a literal response that Betty had told him that. That "literal" way of hearing things and responding to them has been consistent in his behavior and is more indicative of AS than immaturity.

Must admit I do like him. Anastasia gets on my nerves quite often but just hope Phil is just MIA for this first show and not all season. And, I do agree, there are some truly talented peeps on that show. Here in our little town, at the County Fair this last Sept, the touring top 4 contestants were part of the entertainment. Was very impressed with them. Sadly, didn't have a great showing from the stands. Too bad, people missed a great show.

I don't care whether you check the boards ten times a day or once, if you decide to stay out of the fray, then you stay out of the fray and you don't reply--it's actually pretty easy to see which posts are the ones to avoid, right? Especially for someone as experienced in messageboard etiquette as you say you are--whether the post you're (not) responding to happened last week or last night.
Have a sense of humor, already. Unclench, crack a smile, make a joke, have a drink, some smoke, some whatever it takes to lighten you up, but for goodness sake, please do lighten up.

Remember in Harry Potter, when "someone" or "something" was killing the unicorns and drinking their blood? I think it was for eternal life or something. That is what came to mind with all these dead horses laying around. I think we either need to call the Humane Society or someone to come pick up the carcasses before it starts really smelling around here.

If the person had severe Asperger's, yes, I would agree, but Marcel exhibits traits of milder Asperger's and possibly ADHD. His first remarks about "Wanna see my knives" is classic Asperger's behavior...jumping into the shallow end of the pool and cutting his head classic ADHD..relative to his other behaviors.
It explains so much about him and esp how the others react (or better, over-react) to him.
Possibly. However, just because someone displays traits of AS or ADHD doesn't mean they've actually been diagnosed as such. I don't speculate about others' mental or physical health, if I'm informed, well that's different. I know Sam is a diabetic. Could be Marcel is just immature and socially inept. I don't know that he has AS or ADHD. Just because it's a plausible explanation doesn't mean it's true.
