Did you like Ari's new rockin' style? What about his paella-making fiasco? How did you like The Pelicans' performance?

Talk about it all right here!

Carson gives the best hip tips ever! After looking at the naked lady drawing upteen times, I got rewarded at the end. It was like a palate cleanser, if you will. And I'll have to report on what's-his-name later. I can't remember much other than the skivvy shot

NEXT WEEK WE ARE WITHOUT OUR FASHION FAERIE GODSTYLIST????

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok... I feel better... yes, I understand. Dearest, most refulgent, mesmeric-cutie Carson went to go make his movie... but **Weep**Weep**!!! I'll MISS that beautiful bouncing blond baby!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sigh...
(Someone give My_Guy_Ky smelling salts... she saw something sticking out of Kyan's fly and lost focus! Pass them over to CK14 et al -- 'cause that sexy blond bombshell, Carson took off his pants on TV!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok... Was Ari a disaster? Eh - a little bit... but it was great fun to watch!!
Dearest Carson was quite the Dire Straights flashback in his satin western shirt! I love it when he does art work on the guy's couture. (That art degree really showed tonight!)I thought he did an amazing job! (And yes, darlin - I was rather royally miffed too!)
The jacket Carson designed WAS incredibly hot - and for Ari to NOT wear it to play for the record producers and Rolling Stone's reporter - bordered on the self-sabotage to me. I can understand royally flustered... but to flub up the food, the clothes, the singing presence, the grooming and nearly smash the plates... I really wonder...
Thom just had me rollin' off the bed! He was killing me with laughter over that impromptu song! (I love it when he messes with the guitar... he really should fiddle around with lessons and give us a shock one day!)
I enjoyed seeing Ari's art... but after Kyan asked how serious Ari REALLY was - and Jai pointed out that very little in the apartment said "Music Obsessed" - I was wondering how seriously Ari was taking his life.
I enjoyed the hair cutting scenes and Kyan razzing Ari about being tardy. It seemed like Ari was really listening to everything Kyan was saying - and Kyan hooked him up with a good stylist... and I will say - Ari did well with his hair. ...I do have a question... who here uses soap without water? This is twice this summer, now...
I thought it was great of Jai to take Ari to get equipment he didn't have before - and I hope that our dear SG sees the instructions Jai gave and takes them to heart. It was an amazing thing for Jai to get hardcore proffessionals to come see Ari and the Pelicans... but I wasn't that impressed with the tiny snippets we heard. ...Granted - it's not a style of music I gravitate toward, so don't go by me. Jai IS a better singer, though.
Ted's paella dish looked amazing - and WHEW! Saffron costs an arm and a leg, doesn't it? Ted spent some dough for that meal! Garlic isn't that difficult to pull a clove and peel... so it was almost a comic act... as was the almost infantile chopping method with the onions... but if you've never weilded a knife before or separated a clove of garlic in your life??? I suppose I'd be flipping out too. (There needed to be more than one potholder in the place.)
Ted was hysterical shouting from the floor of the kitchen, and Carson being Liberacee was priceless. Thom on that blowhorn cracked me up. Kyan and Jai were absolute dolls! I'll watch the epi again and take note and be back, peeps.
I loved it! I needed the laugh tonight and BOY did they deliver. Peace pets! --De
How cute is Ari! I think he did a great job and if I lived in New York I would be asking the Fab5 to fix me up. But, alas, i am trapped in Northern California! The band was great and I hope the show helps them take off. Another fine job men!
Just finish watching the episode, boy this guy is weird.
my_guy_ky
Kyan's hair looks really great and he looks young in those cool casual clothes. My favorite line of his tonight was, "He's got a small basket" When the SG kept him waiting in front of the salon, he sounded sarcastic when he said, "You just take your sweet time. Don't worry about me."
I liked when Thom said "Oh Lawd, honey. We're gonna change a tragic fool to rocker cool, honey." I like the way he just flew onto that bed in the store.
Jai looked rather butch in a plaid flannel shirt and a baseball cap. I really loved Jai's role in this episode! What a sweet little doodlebug! *coo* I really didn't care for Jai's outfit during the reveal.
Paella looks complex, but it didn't sound too difficult to make. There are just a lot of ingredients.
When Carson saw tissue balls in the bed, he said something like "It looks like a 90 y.o. woman slept here" "I hate straight bars." I love the jacket he made for SG.
Notevayas: Did you dig Carson's Hip Tip, or what?
I like the Carson MIA gimmick for next week's show. (says the Kyanite who usually doesn't like it when Bravo messes with the formula)
The SG is an amazing artist and his singing and guitar playing are just fabulous. I wasn't as crazy about the lyrics to what he sang to the boys. His face is pudgy and I think he could try some highlights. I can't believe they could show the naked woman in his painting on TV. I liked how he said, "I'm not worthy" ala Wayne & Garth. He looked so sloppy going around in his underwear just before and during the reveal. It's really too bad that the entrance to his apt. is in that narrow kitchen. It seems that his bandmates had to squeeze past the oven on their way in. The bandmember with the glasses on sure looked young. The SG sounded good onstage, in spite of his habit of practically kissing the mic.
my_guy_ky
THE PELICANS ROCK!
ThomsTeddyBear
Ooooo, we're not even going to talk about the blood soup! Ari needs to make arrangements for his girlfriend to come live with him fast because he needs HELP! Every time he put his arm into the oven FROM A SQUAT POSITION and got burned, I screamed (sorry luvsthom). I was like "STAND UP!" That boy was really something else! BUT...he was cute in his way and I like him.
I didn't know what to expect when he started to sing, however he was not bad! It was something I could get into but that may be because I like varied kinds of music. It wasn't bad, not at all - and the same went for the band even though they only played a little bit through editing.
Questin...is it legal for a place to be THAT small and still be called an apartment?! I was drooling over his books...books books books books - I LOVE books! Never get the chance to read them, but it doesn't stop me from buying them. To have my own house with built-in bookshelves would be SO IT for me! So when they did the reveal, I hit drool factor 20 - then I looked away from Thom and checked out the shelves.
He was singing to me...did you hear Thom singing to me! He was singing, "Daawwnniieee...."
Yup, I'm absolutely positive he was. Please ignore the large, concussion-like bump on the top of my head.
That jacket Carson did for Ari was totally friggin' amazing! He's got such a knack for that. Know who else's jacket was kickin'? Ted's! When they were in the loft, that jacket was so on! I would kill for a jacket like that! Ok, not really kill but you know what I mean.
Tired...will comment more later.
I'd love the Paella recipe if anyone has it. It looked wonderful.
Ari is SO CUTE!
signladybc
De!!! Did you say 'blowhorn' for bull horn? Freudian slip? I think NOT!
This was an okay episode for me. Not ranked with favs like John K. and Chris's(?) wedding reception but not down with the awful pig twins either.
The music is not to my taste but I admire that Ari is following his dream a la Winston. Personally I think Ari should do more with his graphic art. Some of those portraits really rocked! And yes, how DID they get away with the nude on the wall???
So--well, the talk of the town is Carson's gorgeous legs!!! Boxers or briefs? I really can't remember (must look at the video again tonight!) but I'm betting briefs. Would Tick be green with envy? Hope he has the opportunity to see this show.
From the beginning (3 times now I've avoided saying a blow by blow of the episode) bet I get edited :-).
The apartment was AWFUL. Icky yellow color, so tiny! The bull horn was so funny in everyone's hands. Ari wasn't too impressive at first, I kept asking myself 'rocker?' but after Kyan got his grooming done Ari was pretty hot! Yeah, what is it with 'dry' cleansing?
Jai was just amazing! I love that boy! Come let me adopt you, sweetie. He encouraged Ari and treated him as a professional equal. Wish Ari had listened to his advice about the mic. I hate singers who swallow the mic. It is so distorted! At least Ari heard the same comments again from the Rolling Stone guy. What a wonderful gift--the amp and guitar. And Ari's guitar playing wasn't half bad, just wasn't wild about his voice or style of music.
Thom, Thom you must have been a gymnast in your past life. That sailing leap in the furniture store had me rolling! As always you worked a miracle. Loved the colors you used and how you scaled the furniture to the small space. I'd never thought of using low stools for seating. I live in a trailer and that might be an idea I will try.
Ted, the paella looked maaaaavelous! I never knew saffron was red. I always thought it was yellow. I could almost smell the spices in that store myself. I loved how Ari commented on the fragrance on each floor.
Carson, if I can get beyond your unveiling--I loved the jacket and I was also really ticked that Ari didn't wear it. It seems to me he was really sacattered about his clothing. I think I saw at least 2 and maybe 3 different outfits on him between stripping down to shorts and t-shirt for cooking and finally getting on stage. Carson's suggestions for jeans and boots for a smaller man were very helpful. I would assume us short women could also put those suggestions to good use.
May I make a suggestion--a thought that crossed my mind as Ari was cleaning up after the FF left and was noshing some of the 'garbage.' Wasn't he originally from Russia (when it was the USSR) and came to the US when he was around 9? It could be that he was raised in a household that cherished every morsel of food, especially if his parents were raised during WWII. That might have been part of the reason for his nibbling. Just a thought.
The other thing I was thinking of when he was making such a mess of his kitchen duties. Do you all remember Allan (I think it was), the guy that was really cheap and was getting his parents and his GF's parents together. Remember how he fell apart in the kitchen. Dropped and broke a martini pitcher and/or glass. I will never forget hearing him say to himself 'you don't deserve nice things.' It broke my heart!
Let's face it girls, often the guys just don't know how to juggle three things in the kitchen. And they KNOW we are watching them. Still, the cut finger was a bit much. And after cutting it, he stuck it in his mouth then went back to slicing and dicing. Ick!
Loved the band members--they all seemed to be behind Ari 100%. And the tall young guy that the FF were hot for DID rock!
So, you all who know more about rock today than you know about Elvis, what does this _,,/ mean? In American Sign Language it is ILY (thumb, index, mid and ring curled, pinky) but I've heard it may mean something different when the audience is rocking out. Kyan used the sign.
Cheers for now,
Okay.....heres my 2 cents. Boy, All Things Just Keep Getting Smaller. My Ghod-- how much smaller can these apartments in NYC get ????? I thought all the art on the walls was a bit much. And Thom.........a fully reclined, naked lady above the couch in the living room ?? And a self portrait above the toilet tank ?? C-mon, a tad bit over the top????
Loved Thom with the guitar. Hes quite good at improv singing. Also loved Jai singing, even if it was way not enough. My favorite quote of the show has to be when Ari told Ted and Kyan in the Denali that he was used to performing in dives where people get sweaty and drunk, and throw things around and theres alot of love. Kyan responded " Sounds like Thom Filicias house ". Just another reason to be attracted to him. Hey Thomasulo,wanna go PAR-TEE ????
Now...whats with Carson parading the SGs around the house in their underwear lately ??Poor guy looked like he was freezing. And, speaking of Carson and underwear. Holey-Moley. Hip tip Or HOTT tip ??Yikes. Have all the C.I.T.s been revived by now ?
At the reveal:::::: All the guys looked soooo fine. Jai all buffed up looked like he was all set to run off to the gym for a workout after the show.
I liked Ari's haircut. I think Ted could have had him serve something simpler that didn't require using so many dishes. They probably sat dirty in the sink until the weekend since washing dishes is only a weekend thing.
All in all the show had some good laughs and was fun, but was not one of my favorites.I have trouble getting past the cluttered look of a tiny space, no matter how hard you try to make it look neat. But thats just me. I'll still watch and re-watch it as I have all the others about umpteen times. Can never have enough Queer Eye.
big_fan_of_Jai
I just watched the episode, since I missed it last night, and I loved it! I was laughing sooooooooo hard with Ari's kitchen scene and the "if you touch me for more than 5 seconds your gay" moment!
I felt Carson's pain when he didn't wear the jacket! I thought it looked really nice, and Ari had it on before they left, so I don't know what happened! And Carson, during the reveal, it must have been the day before labor day and he was trying to get in as much white as possible! (Ha! But really, all white did look really good!) Didn't Carson do a jacket with something on it of the SGs in another episode? Was it Butch?
I'm so happy because I got to hear Jai sing! Even if it was just one little line, he sang it really well! The guitars in the stoe were beautiful, and if the butterscotch one had more power, I would have picked it myself! I could see how Ari was 'swallowing' the mike. Step away!
I liked Jai's outfit during the day, but not so much during the reveal.....
Off to the kitchen--what happened?!?!--Ted had shown him what to do before and he looked so calm, and then Ari goes and almost cuts his hand off! AH! But really, I bet he was really nervous, so I don't blame him, and the food did come out really well. I was just nervous when he kept reaching into the oven, then saying "ow", then reaching in again....
The apartment looked really nice after Thom re-did it! The way he orgainized the books and CDs turned out really well. Like Ari's friend said, "why didn't you do this before?" Well, that's because they didn't have the genious mind of Thom around!
I liked Ari's hair, but he was a bit rough on the face with the wash with no water. Oops! No wonder he could "feel it killing the bad stuff"!
All in all, this was a really good episode, it really focused on his career with music, simliar to that of Winston's episode.
SEAFOOD PAELLA - Ari V.
-- RECIPES -- Paella
As prepared in episode 134.
Paella: it’s the most famous dish in Spain and it's delicious.
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon olive oil
5 bacon slices, chopped
2 chicken leg/thigh pieces
2 chicken breasts
2 cups chopped onions (about 2 medium onions)
5 garlic cloves, minced
2 cups valencia rice
1 seven ounce jar roasted sliced pimentos with juice
1 teaspoon crushed saffron threads
2 cups canned seafood stock
1 ˝ cups canned low-salt chicken broth
˝ pound chorizo sausage, sliced into ˝-inch thick pieces
1 pound large uncooked shrimp, peeled, deveined
1 dozen clams, scrubbed
1 dozen mussels, scrubbed, debearded
1 cup frozen green peas, thawed
Lemon wedges
Preheat oven to 450°F.
In a large paella pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the bacon and cook until fat is rendered, about 6 minutes. Transfer bacon to paper towels and drain, reserving the fat in the pan.
Season chicken legs and breasts with salt and pepper. Add chicken to bacon fat and cook over medium heat until brown, about 7 minutes per side. Remove chicken from pan and set aside.
Add onions and garlic to pot and sauté until beginning to brown, scraping up any browned bits, about 10 minutes. Stir in rice, roasted pimientos with juices, saffron, seafood stock and chicken stock to pot and bring mixture to simmer. Remove from heat.
Pour rice mixture into the paella pan. Arrange chicken, chorizo slices, shrimp, clams and mussels in rice mixture. Sprinkle with chopped bacon and peas. Cover with foil or pan lid.
Bake paella until the chicken and is cooked through, the clams and mussels have opened, and the rice is tender, about 40 minutes. Remove foil or lid from baking dish. Let paella stand 10 minutes. Serve with lemon wedges.
I know! I was looking at the preview for next weeks, and all of a sudden when they were talking in the car I didn't hear a familiar voice, Carson's gone! I wonder who will fill in for fashion....another mystery. (I just have to say that when --was it Ted?--said that Carson's gone, I loved the look on Thom's face! So funny!)
Is it just me or was Kyan especially gorgeous in this episode? That smile he flashed at the beginning of the haircut scene was amazing!!! It literally took my breath away! And he seemed so happy throughout the whole show... always a great smile. Loved the part when Ari kept him waiting.... why couldn't I have run up on him just standing there with nothing to do??? Yes, some would call that the rock symbol sign, but as we learned in a previous QE episode (great, now I can't remmeber which one it is, but I swear there was one!)
the correct rock-on sign is ,,/ without the thumb. Kyan just probably got mixed up into saying I Love You with his hands....
Thom singing = me swooning.
Thom has such a nice voice, and seeing him sitting there, strumming a guitar, even if he couldn't actually play it... I sweah, I jus' 'bout had the vapors.
And if there really is no Carson next week, I'm going to be seriously disappointed. A Queer Eye without Carson is scarcely a Queer Eye at all. I understand that they might need a break sometimes, but I'd much rather watch a rerun or few than an episode without any one of them -- it's the Fab Five, after all, not the Fab However-many-we-have-around-now.
jais_girl
I couldn't believe that he didn't wear the jacket either! After everything that Carson did to get that for him and he just sticks in back in the closet! Humph!
I almost screamed with delight when Jai started singing. He has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard! I'm with you on his outfits too! I loved the little trucker's hat with the plaid shirt! He looked hot! And I also loved his hip tip with the home run and Kyan! I also love baseball! Go Mariners!
The guy just totally freaked out! Did his mental twin brother come in and take his place?! OW!...OW!...OW! I just don't get it.
I loved the interior design and especially when Thom was like "Its about time he realized I am a genius." (or something to that effect)
Even with all of that stuff, that made this epi entertaining, I didn't really like it. I don't know why and I can't put my finger on it, but I don't know...
I believe that it was Kyan that said Carson was missing. But where did he go? Who's going to do fashion? Why isn't he there? What if the next guy has perfect fashion and that's why he's not there?
Maybe Carson is going to join them at a later time, the only part they really showed in the preview is the car, they didn't show a lot in some other areas. Though I do have to say that the orange skirt Jai was wearing-THROW IT AWAY!- the pleats don't really become him, though the color does.
Was it just me, or did Ari not seem very appreciative?
I mean, the dude got TRICKED OUT by our Fab Boys -- new furniture, clothes, products, and very very nice AMPS AND GUITARS!!!! The musicians I know would be crying at the site of new equiptment. Ari just kinda bumped fists. Even Jai had to pause and ask point blank if Ari was excited.
Sorry! It's just my pet peeve when i feel the SG aren't appreciative!!!
jais_girl
That was it! That's why I didn't like this epi as much! He didn't seem like he really liked the changes they made, but didn't want to say it on camera! Kind of makes me mad, after all they did for him.
Could someone tell me what epi was shown before Ari's? I had a lot of stuff to say about it, but never got the guy's name.
Hi Jai's Angel!
I'm an L.A. gal, so it's only 1:00 a.m. here. I just watched Ari's epi on Tivo, so I'm all fired up!
I don't know. I was annoyed Ari didn't wear the coat Carson made for him. You're right, maybe he didn't like some of the changes, but how could he not be COMPLETELY OVER THE MOON with the new equiptment??? Not to mention Jai's hookup with the record industry A&R people??? That is a huge coup for Mr. Ari.
Not to mention, his apartment was a complete mess pre-F5!!! How could he not be thrilled with the change??
The epi before Ari was Winston, the Restaurateur. I loved Winston. He was soooo thankful and an overall good guy. And before that was Sean, who I know you're familiar with . Again, Sean was appreciative of the F5 and a total doll.
Makes such a difference, dontcha think???
xoxo,
My 3 cents (inflation, you know):
The entry door was in the kitchen?!?! "I'll be right there...I have to close the oven door!"
Thom's face while he was listening to Ari's song. "I've got to have contact....pretty eye contact."
Ari, if you ever get to southern California (oh no, tomasulo on the prowl again!) would you like to have a cup of coffee (decaf)...or maybe a White Russian? (SIP!)
Thank you, Kyan! Not since Billy Yamaguchi have I seen anyone as fascinating as Oscar Bond. He looked like one of the Stones, or even better, one of The Kinks 40 years ago. Love it!!
Ted: "'People get sweaty and drunk and they throw things and there's a lot of love' Sounds like Thom Filicia's house!" (You were right, mrs dee, I am SO there!!)
Thom bought a basket at Bed, Bath & Beyond which kind of upset my daughter who works at Linens & Things. (Stop by some time, Cupcake....she gets a 25% employee discount. Think Bravo budget!)
Jai: "I want to take your journey...." Am I just now starting to fully appreciate how eloquent and poetic you are?
Thom: The phantom glass for the toast to Ari?....what the H-E-double hockey sticks was that?!?!
Somebody please give Ari a garlic press for Hannukah!
I got a little turned on when Ted yelled to Carson "Get me a beer, beeyotch!" (Did I actually admit that?)
I loved the Fab 5 re-enactment of the male hetero shoulder squeeze.
Joe from Rolling Stone had a little John Travolta thing goin' on.....care to meet me for a Margarita next time you're in L.A.? (oh, tomasulo, this is getting downright pathetic!)
At first I was wondering why Ted was having Ari make such a complicated dish like paella but, like someone else said on here, it's not that difficult to cook - it just has a lot of ingredients. I can't wait to try the recipe myself! (Hope I don't cut myself.)
Great show overall. I'm not a fan of Ari's type of music but he definitely has a lot of talent.
"She did, Thom - I'm telling you, she did have 'self-deprecating' under her name way before you ever said anything about it! I swear! Ok, I don't swear...but I promis..uhhhn no, I can't do that either. Uhmm, trust me? What fingers behind my back?"
At first I was wondering why Ted was having Ari make such a complicated dish like paella but, like someone else said on here, it's not that difficult to cook - it just has a lot of ingredients. I can't wait to try the recipe myself! (Hope I don't cut myself.)
Great show overall. I'm not a fan of Ari's type of music but he definitely has a lot of talent.
Welcome to the boards chakkuri - your name is interesting, does it have a meaning?
Yes, I agree! He seemed to be one of the least appreciative MBs in a looooong time. I would say he was self centered but he was quite forthcoming with his bandmates. Maybe he doesn't know how to express himself easily. Still, he really got a wagonload of stuff, could have written a song or acknowledged the Fab Five from the stage. Afterall, even the Bravo twin wrote a wonderful poem and they had about as much couth as Shrek.
I also love baseball! Go Mariners!
Oh, yes, Go Mariners! I'm a fan of them, and I'm awfully sad that Edgaaaaar Maaaaartiiinnez is leaving...
I really think the Mariners need all the help they can get right now! Over 80 losses! Whew!
I believe that it was Kyan that said Carson was missing. But where did he go? Who's going to do fashion? Why isn't he there? What if the next guy has perfect fashion and that's why he's not there?
Even though I'm an Angel, I do have to say: WWHHHAAAA! I want Carson back! (already!)
He might be filming his movie, The Perfect Man...
Was it just me, or did Ari not seem very appreciative?
I mean, the dude got TRICKED OUT by our Fab Boys -- new furniture, clothes, products, and very very nice AMPS AND GUITARS!!!! The musicians I know would be crying at the site of new equiptment. Ari just kinda bumped fists. Even Jai had to pause and ask point blank if Ari was excited.
Sorry! It's just my pet peeve when i feel the SG aren't appreciative!!!
Hm....maybe I saw this episode in a different way than you. I thought he tried so hard with the food (even though he may have burned himself) and he wanted to show his friends the new grooming techniques he used (he was so excited he forgot to use water! ) and wasn't it him that kept repeating "I'm not worthy of this!"
Just a thought!
Well... if you read my first post - you know I was a little unsure about Ari. I watched my tape again and caught his words of appreciation thoughout the show - a little here, a little there... but the thing that touched my heart was how sad he sounded after they left.
**Whispered** "I can't believe they're gone!"
I guess that's why the reveal segment caught me sideways. Kyan seemed to be having an absolute ball - and Carson's not one to hold back the disparaging remark... and he was positive...so maybe we missed even more in editing.
I'm gonna have to watch this again.
I WAS thankful, just a little overwhelmed and shocked. I think anybody who gushes and screams for joy and emotes that passionately when there are two cameras stuck in the their face the whole time, they're a big old phoney anyway. All the stuff was great, but honestly I was grateful for their company and their attention. Maybe I'm not that material a person. I'm certainly enjoying the guitar and the flat screen tv and sofa - but the gig was coming up, there was so much pressure and I knew the whole thing was gonna be on TV. Anyway, I think I appeared plenty thankful (except when they left and I just sort of lost it).
