Exactly. These are really fictional characters, since they are products of someone's editing. It's like talking about soap opera charcters. Anyone who thinks they really know these person's hearts, minds and souls are delusional. We have a hard enough time understanding the people we actually live with! Lol.

But the difference between soap operas and reality programs are soap operas are scripted and they are all "playing" characters. Reality programs aren't scripted, (at least as far as I know), and these people aren't "playing" characters. I think we all get caught up in the chaos called reality TV. I do too. Getting caught up in it does not make us dopey, just makes us human. I try to approach reality TV in this way, I know it is manulative in its presentation. They have to have a good guy and a bad guy. They don't pass out white or black hats like they did in the horse operas of days gone past. Watch them like I do, tongue in cheek. Getting involved does not make for dopey, makes ya human. Don't step away from the screen, just watch and enjoy the chaos called reality TV. I have always said that when it comes to the bottom line on the program, the top chef, the one with the most to offer will win. It reminds me of last PR, most people disliked Jeff, but when it came down to it, he was the most creative and had the most original ideas. He was not the best liked but it was a design show. Many will disagree with me but that is how I saw it.
As I said don't back away from the TV just enjoy the show for what it is.

I don't see how I contradicted myself, but, you're entitled
to your opinion. I don't know if Marcel will sue, but, I don't
believe his case would be trivial. I'm sure he sacrificed some
to come on the show, and yet, the cards were stacked against him, from the first show.
There was something part of the other's lifestyles that he was against. If it was against the rules, he was within his parameters to complain. These guys may be friends of yours, or you have a deeper level to the show than me. Maybe you're just smarter, or with less time invested to develop my unusual loathing for this year's cast for what they did to Marcel.
I'm just a viewer. I have opinions, sometimes strong ones that contradict people with other points of view, not my own. We don't all see things the same way. I may be dead wrong. But, I know what I feel when I watched them all season...
These are the pitfalls and benefits of expressing opinions on a message board. I'm not offended that people may not see things the way I do all the time. It is always fascinating though that when people don't know how to refute something I say, instead of correcting me, they resort to low down ad hominem attacks. It's alot like the mishogos of this whole season, so why should the boards be any nicer?

I wish I could say I wasnt as emotionally involved in the show as you are but I would be a liar. I love the show and all its players, even the [expletive deleted]. I watch and rewatch every episode every chance I get. I guess the difference is I dont get upset if my favorite isnt the most popular.
Yes, I did get upset last season when Dave got the boot but I was all better in about 10 minutes. I wasnt happy Jeff won on PR, still cant believe it, but its ok. My favorite didnt win, time goes on.
I do feel you contradicted yourself when you went on and on how terrible the other chefs were being to Marcel, how fiends had made it onto the show,how Marcel should sue, etc... then say you thought the show was so interesting,your favorite over last seasons. Huh?
Still would love to know who are the ex-felons and why Marcel should be able to sue Bravo if they were there.

Thanks. Everything you said made a lot of sense. Project Runway was great this season, but, they only show what they want to show, and want us to see. I have to remember that they're manipulating our emotions, like with Marcel on TC.
He's probably doing jello shots with Sam and Ilan right now laughing about all the people who bought into the drama.

I personally know Marcel..you could say we're rather close. And of all the things you could say about him, he most certainly is the least selfish, arrogant person I've ever met. I'm sure one could twist that into a judgement of my character if they wished, but simply..I've come across truly mean, selfish people before, and have had many bad experiences with people, and he simply does not fit into that category. He couldn't be further from it.
I'm sure at some points, all of us have come across in a way we are not, and that is even without clever editing on the telvision meant to portray a certain image of someone. We've all acted mean, or arrogant, or inappropriately, etc at some point in our lives. How we act for one moment does not determine who we are entirely as a person.
Thank you for your post, Violet. If you are in touch with Marcel, I hope you will let him know that many of us here can see right through Cliff, Sam and Ilan. I am hoping that nothing happens to Marcel in next week's episode, but I'm afraid that something does. In that case, not only the perpetrator but the person filming it (either Cliff or Sam) should be thrown off the show. And if the third person knew what they were up to and did nothing to prevent it, he should be offed also. Marcel has shown himself to be a bigger man than any of the 3 Stooges.

Maholo, it's appreciated. My 75 year old mom had a heart bypass 10 days ago. She's in another state,(not too far away though) but has asked that my teenager and I not come out to see her until the summer when she's up to it. Gotta respect that, but it's hard. She had a set back today, and her recovery will be slower than we had hoped. Unfortunately, my drama queen younger sister is the one who called with the info while I was reading the boards this morning. Sounds like your gramma had a bit of wisdom going for her, neh?

Why target the poster who is simply asking a question: why it is that someone uses all caps, which many people find irritating and hard to read, and which--on some board systems--would get the poster banned for doing?
It's a logical question, and it's certainly not very friendly to new posters to make them feel like they've done something wrong, when all they've done is ask a logical question.
It's so senseless really!! I get beat up for using "!!!!" as a delimiter!! Became a habit years ago when I started chatting online!! My boss got on me at the same time for using CAPS in my emails!! Some people just need to complain about something!! I had to learn not to correct spelling in this venue; interrupts the flow!! lol!!

But you know, several of us did respond to your posts and and those of other newbies (as we often do) saying that there's a reason for the caps and that reason is acceptable...this person is not shouting or trying to be rude, so just take a chill pill, Jill, relax, accept that there's a legitimate reason and let it go! Personally, I don't need to know more than "sorry folks, I just need to do it this way to post, not shouting or anything" and that's fine with me, know what I mean?
With that said once again, welcome to the boards, what do you think of the show?????

Well, yes and no. You are right in that there are no scripts per se, but a good video editor can make black seem white. It's like taking 50 photos of a person at a party, and showing just one...which one? happy? sad? asleep? bemused? angry?
So our impression of reality contestants is very much controlled by the editors.
That's not to say we cannot get some glimmer of who these people are, esp if the editors are fair. I still think Betty suffers from pathological narcissism, just as I believe Marcel has a mild form of Asperger's Syndrome, but I can't be sure. How could I? But there is enough evidence, not only from the show, but from interviews, comments from past contestants etc to support my theory and help me understand why they would act the way they do.
In the end, television is just not a proper vehicle for human relationship.
We don't know if the people on this board are some of the contestants in disguise, or if those who say they are their friends are really their friends. How could we? So all must be taken with a grain of salt.
Nevertheless, I continue to root for Marcel. I believe he's the real deal. I can only hope I'm right, but am aware that he could be something quite different. But no one has yet made enough of a convincing argument to convince me otherwise. No amount of jumping up and down and shouting could ever do so. Such drama almost always masks deceit.
Again, it's TV, not my neighborhood.

It sounds like someone, maybe Cliff, gets kicked off the show next week because of a prank that crosses the line. It has to do with messing with Marcel's hair while he is sleeping. By "crossing the line" I meant it must mean violating something each chef signed off on in their contract .
