Just a couple of things remain a mystery for me... I'm curious to hear from the horses mouth just when & why Elia had turned on Marcel. (Because it seemed to be on a dime & for no apparent reason.) And did y'all notice her look of pure disdain for Marcel at the judges table? Poor Marcel was clearly still oblivious to the hate she had for him as he hugged her & rubbed her head in an affectionate way.
And why didn't she just leave the chocolate hearts that she had already cut out intact & serve those ones to the judges? They would have been oblivious to the fact that the other guests were served the broken ones.
What a stupid backstabbing [expletive deleted]!!

I feel a little offended by this. I have waitressed part time in some very nice restaurants for many years in a upper middle class suburb. Working in a busy successful restaurant is working in a hostile work environment. Trying to get the food out quickly in such a small area with so many people and different personalities, sorry to say but physical fights still happen, no matter if you work in a diner or fine dining restaurant. Customers never realize it because it always happens behind the doors and walls,and it happens more than most people know. In many restaurants that are not corporate owned, unfortunately, "no tolerance" rules do NOT apply. The less productive party goes home "until they need you again" (gets around unemployment, cuz you were never "officially" fired) and your money makers get to stay. I work full time in a office as well and if you so must look at someone threateningly, your job is on the line.
So to say its the "type of establishment" is not true. Its more like the business itself.

I guess I didn't expect the whole thing to be quite so nasty. I know the whole board has been speculating about what was going to happen. I figured they'd run up behind Marcel and shave a piece of his hair. I didn't think Cliff would hold him down like he did...and for so long!
I've got all my paws! I did shave my head once years ago--it was all the way down to my waist and I got tired of it and zipped it off. Looked really cool and was wonderful in the shower!

I was horrified by what I saw tonight. I just could not believe my eyes. So they were celebrating, no excuse for what happened. I happen to feel that all of them still were feeling pangs of jealousy at how well Marcel's dessert was received and so jealous the woman wanted Marcel to feed her. You could hear the sizzle of their jealousy in the kitchen!
And then when the moronic Elia "always wanted to shave her head" actually does it (the cavelier attitude which upset me greatly having just lost all my long hair to chemo treatments! - "a woman's shining glory" - you know) and then encourages Illan to do it too - you know she and Illan were the instigators of what transpired next. And then she knew what she had started when the boys decided to go after Marcel, and great friend that she is, she hide in the other room and would not come out knowing full well what was going on in the boy's room. She was just as guilty as the boys. I've always said here, she has a loose screw and her spock like pointy ears are NOT complimented by a bald head!
I was really afraid watching Cliff wrestle Marcel, that he was going to snap that poor boy's head. You could see Marcel was scared out of his ever loving mind. No way Marcel broke that Nelson, Cliff let him go finally when he realized no one was going to "do the honors" of the shave. It was obvious Illan was behind the camera, urging Cliff on and insisting Sam to do the shaving. And Sam, if he had just gotten up and laid the hand of reason on Cliff saying Enuf is Enuf - could have redeemed himself - but he didn't and became a real weasel along with the others.
And then the UTTER STUPIDTY of not erasing the digital recording absolutely takes the cake! (By that time they realized what they had done - and yet obviously no one tried to apologize to Marcel because he still felt so threatened he had to sleep in the bathroom)
What is also sad (I think they ALL should have been tossed off the show except Marcel - let LeAnne and Harold cook at the finales) is these three chef's have ruined themselves for LIFE - because not one of them will ever live this down (in the business) and so many doors in the future have been closed by these actions. You screw up big time and never live it down - it will always come back to haunt you. What prospective employers will want these jokers in their restaurants or be willing to finance any ventures with them - NONE.
I think Bravo was correct to air what happened - not because they particularly wanted "good TV" but because they had to show it and what the repercussions of such actions were. I just think that the producers were WRONG to step in and let the 3 remain in the show. According to Tom, he would have tossed them all out. Maybe I won't remember their names after this show is over, but many in the business will.
Marcel may be a young know-it-all, which is what they find irritating but he did not deserve this. He showed great aplomb and sangfroid, well beyond the maturity of his years. BTW folks - college hazing is illegal in most states, exactly for this reason and because people do get hurt when mob mentality takes over a situation.
The food got left behind tonight - and it was a great show till this point - one could actually see the diners enjoying their meal and being romatic with one another. It was a cute episode.

Have you read Tom's blog? He says that he asked that all 4 be kicked off and have Marcel win the 100K by default. He totally rejected their behavior. it was the PRODUCERS who overrode his decision. And watching some video of Andy "Incoherent" Cohen, i can believe Tom.
But i don't think Marcel is there to win by default. I think any of the other 4 would have grabbed the money and r un, but I think Marcel is different. He has principles. He has almost never taken their bait or repaid their cruelty in kind. The only time he did was to Ma Betty Barker and even that was a lame attempt...he just doesn't know how to be unjustly cruel...innocently annoying, hell yes. But what truly creative person isn't?
Anyway...here's my read of our culinary telenovella...Elia has definitely gone to the dark side. I think it started with the restaurant competition, where Marcel put her in the harsh spotlight and she realized he wouldn't protect her incompetence. But she sure knew who would and it was then that the co-habbing began. Of course, the unwritten rule was she had to join the hate-Marcel camp. you know, it's very tiring to stand by an unpopular person, esp if you are an insecure spoiled rich girl like Elia seems to be. She found no difficulty in betraying him and mocking him right away. Of all the conterstants, she seems to have the blackest heart (let's not forget how she used Mia)...at least Ma Betty Barker put her knives in Marcel in daylight and in the chest...Elia slid them in his back under cover of dark. Well, Delilah's have existed throughout history haven't they? And so have scheming weasels like Ilan. Those two: a mutual using society. He lusts, she toys. I expect to see more of her betrayal in the coming episodse.
It amazes me that almost all the blogs and boards I go to have turned against her so completely...it gives me faith in humanity.
Yeck, Now I have to take a shower!!
Ok...much better.
And yes, they are all lying to ease their conscience, no one actually admits guilt and make amends. Life is too hard when you know you are a deeeek and beeeetch, so best to pretend otherwise. It will pop up elsewhere in life however, sooner or later, so I hope their wake-up calls are not too harsh. We're all imperfect dishes after all.

Hey JMe, jumping in here because there is no way in HELL I am going to read over 300 posts!! SO, here goes my opinion.
First, for some reason, was feeling very let-down after this episode. Partly because I felt that Ilan should have been reprimanded in some way for his antics behind the camera..."come on Sam, get the clippers, Cliff has him down..." etc. He is such a scary little thing! Now, the food. What ever gave Ilan the idea that 'CHICKEN LIVER BON BONS' was a good idea!! Holy crap, that was just GROSS! The other QF dishes were ok, nothing special in my eyes, but way better than Ilan's disaster!
I know Cliff was probably going home anyway, but because of his assinine behavior, he did not leave with dignity. I still think he should have left instead of Mike, even though Tom said i was because he contributed the least to the EC.
Someone said that Cliff knocked Marcel's tray of salmon on the floor. Did he? Not sure, but he did say he saw it falling and it didn't look like he did anything to stop it. However, Marcel thought quickly and saved his dish by reducing the portion size. Nice going Marcel!
Elia says she took all of the offered cooking courses at some fancy schmancy school, yet she didn't know that cream needed to be COLD to whip?!!!!!! Good heavens girl, common sense should have told you that. She does not have what it takes to be TC, as someone pointed out..."I quit", "I give up" not TC comments.
As for the TRUE Top Chef???? Sam MAY be a better chef than Marcel, but in the face of all the ridicule and harassment that Marcel took, he showed a maturity that the others only dream of posessing. Sam showed his colors by sitting by and not stopping the Cliff/Marcel?Ilan incident, knowing full well that it was out of control. SO, I do hope Marcel wins. Because, TC means to be able to keep control of yourself in trying times, and NONE of the others have proven that they are capable of that.
Long, yes, but will now step off my soap box, and wait for the disagreements/agreements to come pouring in.

Have you read Tom's blog? He says that he asked that all 4 be kicked off and have Marcel win the 100K by default. He totally rejected their behavior. it was the PRODUCERS who overrode his decision. And watching some video of Andy "Incoherent" Cohen, i can believe Tom.
But i don't think Marcel is there to win by default. I think any of the other 4 would have grabbed the money and r un, but I think Marcel is different. He has principles. He has almost never taken their bait or repaid their cruelty in kind. The only time he did was to Ma Betty Barker and even that was a lame attempt...he just doesn't know how to be unjustly cruel...innocently annoying, hell yes. But what truly creative person isn't?
Anyway...here's my read of our culinary telenovella...Elia has definitely gone to the dark side. I think it started with the restaurant competition, where Marcel put her in the harsh spotlight and she realized he wouldn't protect her incompetence. But she sure knew who would and it was then that the co-habbing began. Of course, the unwritten rule was she had to join the hate-Marcel camp. you know, it's very tiring to stand by an unpopular person, esp if you are an insecure spoiled rich girl like Elia seems to be. She found no difficulty in betraying him and mocking him right away. Of all the conterstants, she seems to have the blackest heart (let's not forget how she used Mia)...at least Ma Betty Barker put her knives in Marcel in daylight and in the chest...Elia slid them in his back under cover of dark. Well, Delilah's have existed throughout history haven't they? And so have scheming weasels like Ilan. Those two: a mutual using society. He lusts, she toys. I expect to see more of her betrayal in the coming episodse.
It amazes me that almost all the blogs and boards I go to have turned against her so completely...it gives me faith in humanity.
Yeck, Now I have to take a shower!!

And yes, they are all lying to ease their conscience, no one actually admits guilt and make amends. Life is too hard when you know you are a deeeek and beeeetch, so best to pretend otherwise. It will pop up elsewhere in life however, sooner or later, so I hope their wake-up calls are not too harsh. We're all imperfect dishes after all.

Well, we can only go by what we see and any other outside information like interviews. I have always viewed these folks like some bizarre hybrid of fact andf fiction....and treat them so accordingly. Would never assume I actually KNEW anything about who they REALLY are.
I've been in many situations like this show...hothouse environment...talented people...cliques form...bullying...etc etc. And the same thing is always true...the complaints are always hyper=personal and hyper-generalized in nature....he's annoying...she's arrogant...he never is part of the group...she doesn't respect anyone...
it's never..he hit me...she stole my belongings...he lied about me to x, .....no actual harmful actions...just psychodrama...usually a projection of the insecurities of the person who eventually becomes the one who actually does something to actually cause harm to the "annoying one."
If Marcel were truly the Olympian Annoyance Ma Barker and the Brat Pack make him out to be, Tom would have seen it and acknowledged it. He has done just the opposite.
And in my experience, anyone that annoyinmg would never have the presence of mind to react so maturely to all the actual abuse he is getting. They'd at the very least have Ilan's smirk and at the worst destructive revengeful behavior.
NOt buying it. They're simply torturing that guy because they intuitively know he has a gift and won't be distracted by them either in this contest which the remaining three desperately want to win, or in life itself. That just drives insecure people NUTS!

LOL. For some reason, I don't think he's a very huggy kind of person..but I understand.
He has amazing presence of mind. More than I could ever have..with my ADHD, I tend to fly off the handle just for the rush of it...but dayam! he's steady as a rock!
And that he still wanted to hug the others at the judge's table after they had just ganged-up (gung-up?) on him was amazing. I really think he has an incredible future ahead of him, both as a chef and as a human being. Not many of us when we get older can look back ourselves at that age and be proud of the way we handled ourselves (I certainly can't) ...he will be able to do that...and hopefully have sympathy for those going through the same thing.

The chain of events they aired to us played out as-if she and Ilan shaved their heads BEFORE Cliff tried to get Marcel to shave his head. My question then is: If Ilan was talking from the bathroom, and Elia came out to see what was going on, and if Sam was sitting on the other side of the room "observing" Cliff and Marcel, then WHO *REALLY* WAS FILMING THIS?! And that HUD is a filter for many video compositing packages (to give a tape the "feel" of coming from an amateur source).
My guess is it was all a ploy by the production company to get something "shocking" for the show (so as to keep people watching/interested).
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....
Thanks for the photo. There clearly is something "fishy" going on here, and it isn't Elia's idea of a main course.

But, that is EXACTLY what Sam DID do! You can hear clearly him saying something along the lines of "Hey, Get off him", or something like that. True, it wasn't said in a blood-curdling manner, the way a cop would when telling a criminal to "FREEZE!", but Sam DID say it, and DID try to end the BS going on.
Just have to watch the videotape again (and yes, i'm rewinding it one more time because i want to see Elia out of that bathroom with her hair INTACT! Ugh!).
