But i don't think Marcel is there to win by default. I think any of the other 4 would have grabbed the money and r un, but I think Marcel is different. He has principles. He has almost never taken their bait or repaid their cruelty in kind. The only time he did was to Ma Betty Barker and even that was a lame attempt...he just doesn't know how to be unjustly cruel...innocently annoying, hell yes. But what truly creative person isn't?
00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
No truer words my friend...He is NOT cruel.
He dosn't mock them..He doesn't talk about their sexuality or
EVER personally attack them..He does't call them gnats or threaten them or even raise his voice.
He couldn't even as you said be mean to Betty succsessfully.
I want to hug him right now....lol
LOL. For some reason, I don't think he's a very huggy kind of person..but I understand.
He has amazing presence of mind. More than I could ever have..with my ADHD, I tend to fly off the handle just for the rush of it...but dayam! he's steady as a rock!
And that he still wanted to hug the others at the judge's table after they had just ganged-up (gung-up?) on him was amazing. I really think he has an incredible future ahead of him, both as a chef and as a human being. Not many of us when we get older can look back ourselves at that age and be proud of the way we handled ourselves (I certainly can't) ...he will be able to do that...and hopefully have sympathy for those going through the same thing.
Either he's heavily medicated or dayam..he does take it all so well....I woulda been a basket case or screaming in everyones faces.......Don't f*ck with Miss Savant 2007......lol
Now FINALLY Good night!!!
Oh and.... he'd get used to the hugs!!!!

The truth is that Marcel is pretty good at presentation, but sorry at actually cooking. I could make you a simple steak and baked potato that you would enjoy more than anything Marcel has made thus far.
That goes along with what i was saying in chat about what Bravo could do to "salvage" their creds in the eye of the viewer for next season. Along with varying the judges ENTIRELY (not just a "guest judge" here and there, but using some REAL WORLD judges), but also using a TOTALLY RANDOM set of challenges. For example, instead of giving everyone the same "theme" for a meal, have them select index cards with dishes written on them from a BINGO-ball spinner. It would give EACH chef a chance to shine because they'd be the ONLY person doing THAT MEAL and it's courses.
ANYTHING would be better than the mess that's transpired because of the way things are done now. : '(
Too much hatred and vengeance, not enough COOKING.
KINJIRU
(Speaking of "Simple Steak and Baked Potato", could you imagine Michael if he made it to this level of the competition, let alone that night?)

The entire situation is just sad. I think Sam had the ability to show real leadership throughout the entire season. He definitely has presence and I think most of the contestants would have followed his lead. He should have just treated Marcel like an irritating little brother and let it slide.
Let's not forget this is realty TV. The producers definitely could have diffused the situation by setting some stricter ground rules, but drama is what keeps us watching. The food could taste like cardboard for all we know.
Too true, my friend. Too true. That's why reality shows sell so well these days. They cater to the "mob mentality" (as can be seen right here in the forums at times). If it sells detergent and McDonald's, STICK IT ON THE AIR! Ugh!

You could also see the goodwill that Sam had garnered from his colleagues all season long in action. Ilan and Cliff worked diligently on Sam’s plates as if they were their own. That kind of teamwork is admirable, and should always be the case in a professional kitchen.
Even though she is right... I seriously doubt she actually has any idea of how a professional kitchen really works. Elia was smart to take Sam's advice about the chocolate. She was loosing it when the heart shapes didn't work and he kept his cool and told her how to fix it.
Marcel didn't show up with a magic foam to make it all better now did he?
No. He didn't. Sam definitely DOES have a way of handling things so the boat sails smoothly. I could see him at the helm of his own restaurant, easily, but as someone said earlier, the "passive-aggressive" nature has to be changed. When it's YOUR butt in a sling, you HAVE to be willing and able to take a stand (and enforce it!). Can't sit in the bleachers and hope the guys on-field know what play you want them to do next.

I've worked the fryer at lots of places (though never at Wendy's) and I'm not the least bit offended
I can understand people pulling for Marcel beacuse he's an underdog... hell that's natural. I was pulling for Mikey personally. But that's no reason to pretend that Marcel can cook because he can't. Mike had absolutely zero in the flair department... but I tried rolling some corn on the cob in parm and it's really freakin GOOD!
I guess if I had cooked it in an immersion circulator it would have been better according to Marcel? That's BS... boiling stuff in plastic doesn't add any flavor to it.
I'm not amazed at all that the corn tasted good! For some reason, people have taken the TASTE out of the competition, and replaced it with alot of frills and nonsense. Yes, i don't think Michael was "Chef" caliber, but in so far as "taste" goes? I'd pick a meal HE COOKED over just about anything any of the rest of them did (except for the Cheese-Doodle in the candy bar. BLECH!). ; )

When exactly did TopChef turn into the Jerry Springer Show?
Wayne I so agree it's at the point where I just don't care anymore....so I'll skate through the rest of the show's keep my fingers crossed that Willeam gets on TC on the next season and it will get back to cooking NOLA style! Maybe some drama but nothing like this, my friend wants to cook; not play my d*ck is bigger than yours...lol
I don't know...do you still want your friend to go on the show now? After what this season has turned out to be, I can't see much honor in being associated with the show. And, jeeze, what if the situation when haywire like this season, and your friend ended up looking as bad as some of the chefs this season? I'm not saying that your friend would participate in the hazing crap that the chefs this season have, but sometimes there is the guilt-by-association deal that goes on...
You've got a good point Amazon...maybe I'm just hopeing that if they get chefs like Willeam it will revert back to season one about the cooking. There will always be some drama just not to the extent of this season I would hope. But it is not up to me lol..he has seen the show and if they cast him it is his decision to accept or not.

So how does your friend feel about doing a reality show and possibly getting messed up by the intense living conditions, being mis-represented, etc...

We are celebrating the facts the in those 9000+ days, she was gifted with the marriages of both her younger daughters, the birth of her only grandson, and seeing that grandson (her "bud", my son) make it to teenager-hood. SO glad someone alse saw that. More high school behavior.
So laughable and so pathetic.
I saw that too. Why couldn't he just say, "I'd like to take the second course?" What a poopy-head.
LOL..Yeah that and the whole cigar..I swear Sam is one shrewd hottie...He played that kid like a fiddle..I don't even think Sam likes Ilan ..He had a plan to win and that included an alliance like Survivor...I think it's becoming more apparent as time goes on..He got pretty mad at his boys in the restaurant challenge..over some bacon????....And Ilan is like So sorry Sam!!!.....Ilan was his willing flunkie.
This is all so Shakespearerean
It was like Ilan was being submissive to Sam's authority. I think, unfortunately, that the final two will be Sam and Marcel. I look forward to Ilan leaving...what a schmuck! Elia, I do believe has some serious mental issues. Plus, the christian thing,as the saying goes, "if you are going to talk the talk, you better walk the walk" Her behavior during this episode shows that the most important thing to her was her new buddies, not what was right. Marcel could use some new supporters, that is for sure, because she only supported him to his face, not behind his back.
It's obvious that Elia never asked herself before the assault, "What would Jesus do?"
Maybe give Ted Neely a much needed break by playing himself for a change in "JC: Superstar?"
I don't know, I gotta believe it: "Saviouring is hard!"
You know IC, I have to say, just because she made a bad, VERY bad judgement call on all this Marcel bashing, (if she actually did, depending on how each person looks at it) doesn't make her a bad christian. Even the best and most devout christian makes mistakes and will ask God for forgiveness. (NO, I am not preaching, just trying to make sense of the disturbing actions of these goobers) Who is to say she did not feel a lot of convictions for her actions, or lack of actions, during this show, and DID ask for forgiveness. Anything is possible. One can only hope.

I cringe to think what kind of establishments you worked in. If that happened nowdays, everyone involved would be fired simply because the restaruant would be liable for fostering a hostile work environment.
...which is one where top chefs are working, preparing gourmet food (mostly) for high-scale clients (mostly). They are holding themselves forth as top chefs--not construction workers, not basebal players, etc.
I feel a little offended by this. I have waitressed part time in some very nice restaurants for many years in a upper middle class suburb. Working in a busy successful restaurant is working in a hostile work environment. Trying to get the food out quickly in such a small area with so many people and different personalities, sorry to say but physical fights still happen, no matter if you work in a diner or fine dining restaurant. Customers never realize it because it always happens behind the doors and walls, and it happens more than most people know. In many restaurants that are not corporate owned, unfortunately, "no tolerance" rules do NOT apply. The less productive party goes home "until they need you again" (gets around unemployment, cuz you were never "officially" fired) and your money makers get to stay. I work full time in a office as well and if you so must look at someone threateningly, your job is on the line.
So to say its the "type of establishment" is not true. Its more like the business itself.
Don't worry about it peapod, Amazon really don't care who she offends as long as she can badmouth the "bully-gang".

You seem like a pretty damn smart individual. IIRC you were one of those lamenting the way people dismissed the pop up Marcel posters and now it looks like your flip flopping doing the same thing. Its pretty silly at this point considering how none of these remaining chefs have covered themselves in glory.
Where are Carlos and Otto when we need them!!!

Well, to me there's a difference between someone who pops up just to spew generalized, baseless and non-contributory negativity and one who pops up to say something positive....or even "negative" if it seems defensible and avoids flaming othert posters without engaging in some kind of dialogue. Yes, I do get carried away sometimes, and whack away with a condescending hammer, but I am transparent and do not hide behind anonymity. I'll take responsibility for my words,...the irresponsible pop-ups do not.

Puff-ball interview of Cliff at http://bloggingtopchef.blogspot.com/
Blatant anti-Marcel bias excusing the brat pack mentality on interviewer's part:
TC: What was with Ilan talking about Marcel being a virgin? Were they playing?
CC: I took it as a dig. They were breaking balls. I wouldn’t have gotten upset.
BTC: It’s like one of those nights at work when you go at each other, then you are like, “hey, sorry let's go get a beer”.
CC: Right.
Yeah, right.
Pretty realisitc actually. If your around guys that talk trash it happens all the time.
Sure. amongst friends. Not from one person who wanted to "slap Marcel's face" from the "moment" he met him. That's just bullying. No offer for a beer is part of that script.
Considering the fact that these people were forced to be togeather and forced to interact with each other 24/7 I don't see it that way. If I was forced to be in the proximity of someone like Marcel 24/7 and he acted the way he did I'd probably tool on him too. And Frank for Snoreing and Mike for being a kuncklehead and Ilan for looking like Ted Alenn, wether I knew them or not.

I have no problem with anyone saying anything positive or negative as long as there is some semblance of reason or fact behind it and its not ridiculously offensive. I don't mind the snarking and or flaming as long as its at least funny, as I have said before thats my stock and trade. Its just sad that it seems that the board has spiraled into generalizations and character assassinations when we could be actually having fun with such a over the top season.

Well, that's where we are different. I have spent a lot of time around creative folk and the population is littered with ADD, Aspergers's Autism, etc etc... I have learned how to distinguish between preventable behavior, intentional behavior and hard-wired behavior. Developing tolerance, understanding and patience is not an option in this world if you want to become a leader.
I give the younger chefs leeway because they are still quite ignorant of the mutiplicity of ways of being in this world....but will not hesitate to call out boorish behavior when I see it...esp the kind of absolute degrading behavior we witnessed last night.
Perhaps the humiliation of another person is becoming a popular sport in America, as certainly witnessed on American Idol the other night or most TV shows...it is not a sport I like or will be silent about when I see it.
Ignorance is not an excuse...we are obliged to learn about the complexities of the world and the people who inhabit it...esp those whom we with live and work with. That is the work of a
"Chief" in any business or group.
To in any way condone the childish bullying and theatrics exhibited by Sam, Elan and Elia is simply irresponsible and contributory to their continued deliquency.

Hey JMe, jumping in here because there is no way in HELL I am going to read over 300 posts!! SO, here goes my opinion.
First, for some reason, was feeling very let-down after this episode. Partly because I felt that Ilan should have been reprimanded in some way for his antics behind the camera..."come on Sam, get the clippers, Cliff has him down..." etc. He is such a scary little thing! To have that much hate for a person, WOW!!! Definately need the psycho music playing right about now. AND, Sam should have been called out on this too. He just sat there laughing, and even though he SAID he was uncomfortable with what was going on, he still did NOTHING. You can't tell me that they ALL didn't realize what was happening was wrong. Elia, not sure where she was, but heard her in the back ground saying something like "I can't do that" (not a direct quote) ALL PARTIES SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUNISHED FOR THIS!!!
Now, the food. What ever gave Ilan the idea that 'CHICKEN LIVER BON BONS' was a good idea!! Holy crap, that was just GROSS! The other QF dishes were ok, nothing special in my eyes, but way better than Ilan's disaster!
I know Cliff was probably going home anyway, but because of his assinine behavior, he did not leave with dignity. I still think he should have left instead of Mike, even though Tom said i was because he contributed the least to the EC.
Someone said that Cliff knocked Marcel's tray of salmon on the floor. Did he? Not sure, but he did say he saw it falling and it didn't look like he did anything to stop it. However, Marcel thought quickly and saved his dish by reducing the portion size. Nice going Marcel!
Elia says she took all of the offered cooking courses at some fancy schmancy school, yet she didn't know that cream needed to be COLD to whip?!!!!!! Good heavens girl, common sense should have told you that. She does not have what it takes to be TC, as someone pointed out..."I quit", "I give up" not TC comments.
As for the TRUE Top Chef???? Sam MAY be a better chef than Marcel, but in the face of all the ridicule and harassment that Marcel took, he showed a maturity that the others only dream of posessing. Sam showed his colors by sitting by and not stopping the Cliff/Marcel?Ilan incident, knowing full well that it was out of control. SO, I do hope Marcel wins. Because, TC means to be able to keep control of yourself in trying times, and NONE of the others have proven that they are capable of that.
Long, yes, but will now step off my soap box, and wait for the disagreements/agreements to come pouring in.

After reading some of the posts, (way to many to read, and sick of hearing about that stupid chicken!) Was just so irritated that people acted like it was a big fun party. (Not everyone mind you) But as someone else pointed out. It is only fun and games when you are friends, and these morons proved time and time again that they were NOT friends of Marcel. LOL I didn't even post until this morning. Read a few last night, saw all the "screaming" and said to myself, "Self? Let's go snuggle up to Hubby and the dog...much better company"...so Self went to bed...and snuggled up to Hubby and the dog.

Such unconditional love!! We come home and say, "did you miss Momma? and the howing begins...him in your arms, head back, howling like a wolf...her on the floor, ball in mouth, yippin' and howling, never letting loose of the ball. He says "happy your home...rub my belly" she says "happy your home, throw the ball!" Too funny!

The guy kicked off last night, Dustin Wilkes, wow! The look on his face when they said he was leaving...man, he just froze and then stared into space. Almost looked like he was going to start screaming. And, Meg squeeked by again. Thought she did a lot better, but I thought Randy Owen was pretty rough. Didn't know the song so didn't like it. WHATEVER, just because he didn't write it? thought he was an A-hole. Will see how the rest plays out.

LOL. But just to make clear, I intend to defend Marcel until the day he wins this competition. I think his behavior has been completely understandable and with few exceptions honorable. His cooking has been inconsistent but no more or less than Elia's or Ilan's. Sam is the most consistent in that area. But the enormous immaturity of the brat pack puts them all at very low rungs compared to Marcel.
That is my opinion based on what I've seen thus far and I will defend it til the day he wins. I will give no quarter to the other three until I see behavior worthy of an adult.
Nor do I stand in anyone's way who feels different. But neither do I deny myself the right to comment, correct and generally kibitz as I see fit.
Let the games continue!

Just tagging on here, late to the party.
Overall impression: Very immature bunch of chefs. Whoever will be top chef will be tarnished (and, sadly, remembered) forever as immature.
Sam - The consummate egger-on-er. After promising Elia that he will shave his head after she does, he declines? And let's not forget how he egged on Frank to go after Marcel and otherwise got his digs in, in the prior episodes. What a jerk. And to not come to Marcel's aid when Cliff was putting him in a headlock? He just sat there and watched Cliff disqualify himself, rather than rushing to Marcel's aid. Completely unacceptable. Sam should have been booted, too. Big time. And, let's not forget how he walked away and initially refused to help Marcel plate his salmon. He came back, saying "I'm not that guy," though admitting he'd like to be. Correction - he is that guy, but suddenly realized that he had to preserved his ticket to Hawaii and couldn't do anything that would get him the boot. His coming back to help at the very last minute was not at all to "help" Marcel, but strictly to protect his own hide from criticism. What a hypocrite.
Ilan - He FILMED the wrestling match, urging everyone to "get him"? He also should have gotten the boot. I don't care how great a cook he may be, this was just awful. Put down the freakin camera and stop it, you jerk. There are no words.
Elia - Second time she goes mental. And why didn't she rush in to help her friend?
Marcel - Frankly, I didn't see that he did anything wrong in the episode. He actually stood out as acting the most professional of all.
Cliff - Wow, did he have no appreciation whatsoever for how this would look on camera, if nothing else? Large guy attacks little guy? Bully vs. pipsqueak? Lifting Marcel right up off the ground in a headlock and swinging him in the air as Cliff walked across the room with him? And, if that weren't bad enough, the whole wrestling thing with the larger Cliff on tip looked kinda gay/homophobic and uncomfortably racial, even if entirely unintended. Does it take a genius to know that if the victim is screaming, he might be getting hurt? Why, exactly, did Tom's boot-off come as such a blow to Cliff's solar plexus? HOW COULD HE NOT HAVE KNOWN THAT HE WAS SLITTING HIS OWN THROAT WITH THAT BEHAVIOR? So, Cliff lives forever in my mind now not as the talented chef he seemed to be, but as an out-of-control bully. [censored].
Chef Tom - Two thumbs down. He should have blasted Sam and Ilan and ripped them a new one for participating in the fiasco and for not rushing to Marcel's defense. To my mind, they were equally culpable. And, if Chef Tom will stand on his soapbox and rip someone for unintentionally getting a free box of fruit, why won't he scream at a guy who STOOD BY AND WATCHED another get hurt, or at the guy who FILMED the entire thing rather than dropping the camera and breaking it up? Could it be that Chef Tom was too shaken up about the whole show just having turned to ashes to know how to recover? Or, did the producers keep him from berating them so the eventual winner wouldn't be so tarnished? Poor Chef Tom, I bet he's regretting having lent his good name to this abysmal venture.
The show - Was supposed to focus on professionalism, but this cast has been a bunch of immature, whining, squabbling fools. The thoroughly annoying Marissa set a low, immature tone and the cast never rose above it after that. I think the producers and judges should have booted all four and just declared Marcel the winner. This is so NOT about the food that I could barely bring myself to even watch this episode, and now I'm so disappointed that I could care less about who wins. This coming from a real Top Chef fanatic is a stunning measure of how badly Bravo failed on this season's Top Chef. Whoever selected this cast should be shot, drawn, and quartered. I hold out no hope whatsoever that decent chefs who care about their reputations will want to be associated with this show in the future; I'm afraid that only hacks and jerks will apply. Sigh.
I'm so disappointed that I could cry. [censored]. Bravo, you had to work really hard to lose this Top Chef fan. How sad that you succeeded.

LOLZ You really believe that some Nazi dude went and drafted this troop of people and FORCED them to live together 24/7? They were clamoring to be on this show.

Just a couple of things remain a mystery for me... I'm curious to hear from the horses mouth just when & why Elia had turned on Marcel. (Because it seemed to be on a dime & for no apparent reason.) And did y'all notice her look of pure disdain for Marcel at the judges table? Poor Marcel was clearly still oblivious to the hate she had for him as he hugged her & rubbed her head in an affectionate way.
And why didn't she just leave the chocolate hearts that she had already cut out intact & serve those ones to the judges? They would have been none-the-wiser to the fact that the other guests were served the broken ones.
What a stupid backstabbing [expletive deleted]!!
