Wow I honestly don't know what is more disturbing, the "incident" or everyone saying there should be a huge law suit and everyone besides Marcel should be in jail. Are people actually comparing this to rape?!? How offensive is that to anyone who has been unfortunate enough to be a rape victim. I honestly cannot even begin to picture the LAPD's reaction to all of this. "Yes I'm on this reality tv show. My drunk roommates and fellow constestants woke me up from a dead sleep, pinned me on the floor and pretended they were going to shave off my hair. Then I got rug burns!!" I'm not condoning what happened at all but it's not the end of the world, and definitely not the most heinous thing I've seen in my whole life. For pete's sake editing can be amazing sometimes. Who knows how long that went on etc. What happened was wrong no doubt about that. But, does it really deserve this huge uproar? It's hard to believe everyone's watching the same show. Plus if you really are going to be this picky that they should go home for not saying anything, then Marcel should go home for tackling Elia at the beach and shoving the camera into I guess Ilan's face. They cut their hair the world will go on, with Marcel's rug burns and all!!

I have to agree with this...edited some bits out to make it shorter. I wasn't going to get into it again (did on other boards) but... I'm sorry...the cries of assault and battery, lawsuits...they are a bit much. Marcel wasn't going to get maliciouly hurt, he couldn't have been scared (it wasn't a dark, strange room, there was a production crew around....what could happen really) I honestly think what he did with the camera was much more serious. He did that out of anger. Cliff was fooling around..he wasn't angry. He didn't punch him in the face or break his arms or intend any harm. He got a rug burn... I just don't see this as the big deal it's being made out to be. I"m not saying it's ok as a general rule to go about grabbing people at the neck ( I know that's coming) I just don't see it rise to assault. I'm sure it does under the letter of the law, but.... It's hair...and a rug burn...in the big picture...it's not really that important.

Yes, Ive talked to Marcel more then once. And yes, I misspoke. Marcel said

"Yes there were glasses but did i break them? No! They were probably stepped on by production or a camera guy, I dont know. "

I got the part where Marcel agreed to pay for the glasses from Frank. My apologies.

Does this mean Marcel didnt say that to Frank? Since I didnt ask Marcel that question, I cannot say for sure.

Here is the link

Thank you for pointing out my error, I did not mean to misquote.

========================================

Actually, this is the entire quote from the blog. In your post(#154841) you just quoted the first response, and not the point that Marcel raises about Frank not even being present when Marcel put his glasses/toiletry bag on the floor, a point that lends weight to Marcel's statement and discredits Frank's statement.

Quote:
Us: Hello Marcel,

Marcel: HI

Us: Frank has explained the broken sunglasses from last weeks show and we were wondering if you would care to add to the statement.

Marcel: I willo ask Bravo but i dont think we r supposed to blog without permission. As for the glasses. Yes there were glasses but did i break them? No! They were probably stepped on by production or a camera guy, I dont know.

Us: Is Franks story true? Was there more to it? Did you feel in fear for your safety? Did the two of you work this out?

Marcel: Franks strory tru. NO! He wasnt there when I placed his items in his bag and set them on the floor next to a chair that was occupied with his and Ilans clothes. So how he can say that i swept them onto the floor and kicked them under the bed is aronious. Affraid? OF Frank? Never, r u joking? I thought it was more humorous than N E thing. Work it out? Yeah i reckon we did.

Us: Thanks for your time

Now, if you think an apology is warranted, you got it.

However, the fact that you mischaracterized it to begin with and then left out a significant point made by Marcel still, IMO, indicates a spin on your point to make Marcel's denial and back-up less powerful than it was.

That was the reason that I, in a subsequent post, quoted the entire blog."

I did not feel the need to post the entire post, just the section I misquoted. It was the section being discussed. I did insert the link to the archived post.

"Now, if you think an apology is warranted, you got it. "

Um, where?

"However, the fact that you mischaracterized it to begin with and then left out a significant point made by Marcel still, IMO, indicates a spin on your point to make Marcel's denial and back-up less powerful than it was."

To begin with, your opinion means very little to me. Ive tried to discuss things with you but you choose to ignore your mistakes and make others mistakes your lifes goal to point out no matter how often they apologize and correct themselves. How very bully-gang of you, IMO.

"That was the reason that I, in a subsequent post, quoted the entire blog."

I seriously doubt you even read my post when I originally posted it. No, you were too busy making a reply to me, thinking you had proven me wrong. Never realizing I had corrected myself. That would explain your very lame reply when I pointed out to you I had corrected my error and my correction was even in your reply. You were too busy trying to zing me but you got zinged.

Spin that,

Well I will send over a huge man to awaken you out of a dead sleep & wrestle you to the floor without you having any idea wtf is happening to you or why. And then I'm sure you would sing another tune.

The production staff was not on hand to witness this, otherwise I'm positive that it wouldn't have happened. (Perhaps it would have been joked about, but it wouldn't have come to it's fruition.)

As for the camera.. That was Marcel closing the door on Ilan's buttboy face, and rightly so. Along with the huge black dude I send over to your house I will send over some immature geeky giggling gay guy to film this event for all of the nation to witness & revel in your humiliation.

Then you can tell me how you feel,

"I think to me the worst thing about it was simply that he didn't know what they were doing. for all he thought they could have been going to beat him or whatever. that could be extremely scary."

I agree. The look on Marcels face as he was woke up was horrible to see. You kept hoping someone would say hey wanna shave your head with us or something, give him the option. Being woke up like he was with a large man holding you had to be terrible and I would have gone apeshit.

It was a bad idea, even before alcohol was in the picture, and it just got worse and worse as the film ran.

Ive had many bad ideas and TG no camera was around to witness them.

First of all, there was no production crew around, just Ilan filming rather than coming to Marcel's aid. That IS truly scary. Second, Marcel was screaming the names of the two people who appeared to him not to be participating, and neither of them responded. Marcel had every right to be angry and scared. He didn't know what they were about to do, and may have feared that they were going to really pummel him. Plus, being put in a headlock, lifted right off the floor, and carried across the room by the neck can't have been pleasant. It's a wonder he didn't have a neck injury from it. Cliff was engaging in thuggish behavior that could have been interpreted by a scared, jolted awake kid in quite a number of ways. Yes, including possible rape. Certainly that was going through my mind as I watched it -- I wondered if it would turn wierd and how long it would take the other two to realize it and stop Cliff. I personally would have been having a near heart attack in those same circumstances.

Marcel's punching the camera was a clear expression of just how frightened, angry, and worked up he was. Take a good look at his face as he is doing it -- that is one REALLY upset dude.

Yeah, it was a big deal. A very big deal. I'm just stunned at those who aren't sensitive enough to realize that.

no one was going to die. this was a controlled environment. It wasn't a frat hazing....it wasn't walking on a tightrope across the street....it was controlled...nothing extreme was going to happen. Again...what marcel did with the camera was probably worse. He could have hurt ilans eye had it been on the eye piece. Cliff was not going to hurt him. This wasn't any assualt by a stranger on the street. I talk about this incident...not a general assault.

I've been assaulted in a jail (worked there) by three convicts that outweighed me by a combined 400 pounds.

Did you all see Ilan with his two fingers out behind Marcel to Sam as he wanted the second course...Such a baby.

SO glad someone alse saw that. More high school behavior.
So laughable and so pathetic.

I saw that too. Why couldn't he just say, "I'd like to take the second course?" What a poopy-head.

LOL..Yeah that and the whole cigar..I swear Sam is one shrewd hottie...He played that kid like a fiddle..I don't even think Sam likes Ilan ..He had a plan to win and that included an alliance like Survivor...I think it's becoming more apparent as time goes on..He got pretty mad at his boys in the restaurant challenge..over some bacon????....And Ilan is like So sorry Sam!!!.....Ilan was his willing flunkie.

This is all so Shakespearerean

It was like Ilan was being submissive to Sam's authority. I think, unfortunately, that the final two will be Sam and Marcel. I look forward to Ilan leaving...what a schmuck! Elia, I do believe has some serious mental issues. Plus, the christian thing,as the saying goes, "if you are going to talk the talk, you better walk the walk" Her behavior during this episode shows that the most important thing to her was her new buddies, not what was right. Marcel could use some new supporters, that is for sure, because she only supported him to his face, not behind his back.

It's obvious that Elia never asked herself before the assault, "What would Jesus do?"

Maybe Elia asked God for forgiveness and was forgiven. It seems God can forgive but fans of reality TV cannot.

Kiasmama- see my post on the previous page.

And yes , it is a huge deal when you are awoken to somebody threatening you in a place where you SHOULD have been completely safe from this type of harassment.

I said this earlier but here it goes again, I thought that Cliff was going to seriously unzip his pants & go to town on poor Marcel. I can only imagine what was going through Marcel's mind. I most likely would've pissed my pants given those type of circumstances.

How did Marcel know Cliff wasn't going to hurt him? There sure hadn't been any indication of friendship shown so far in the show towards him. Plus, at first he didn't even KNOW it was Cliff. 1. This wasn't a controlled environment. No production crew members were present.

2. Not strangers? Then who were these animals in the dark? Surely not the polite, well-mannered contestants that they posed as in front of the daytime TV cameras. And really, how much did they know about each other outside of this experience? Absolutely nothing. They take on faith that Bravo has screened out the dangerous kooks, but what if Bravo made a mistake? You can't say that Marcel was never in danger. While a headlock is a safe move, Cliff could also have outright choked Marcel before the others realized it.

3. Your saying that nothing extreme was going to happen is your opinion derived from knowing, as a viewer, what the other cast members planned to do. The whole point is that, AS IT WAS HAPPENING, Marcel DIDN'T know, because none of the drunken fools thought to tell him while assaulting and manhandling him.

4. Marcel was ripped awake and thrown to the floor, with a bigger, heavier man on top of him trying to subdue him as he screamed for others to help him. Or didn't you notice that he was screaming?

5. Marcel well knew that there were no production crew members present to protect him. All he had to protect him were the other cast members. But it was precisely those other cast members who were taking joy in assaulting him or just deliberately hanging back and letting it happen. What's not to be scared about?

6. Ilan's eye would not have been hurt. He was using the production crew's camera, and all digital camrecorders Bravo would be using would have huge rubber eyepieces -- which are standard protective equipment on all of these cameras.

Probably the most disturbing thing is the number of "pop-up gophers" like you and the other refugees from detention hall whom Ilan has promised used ipods once used by the Gotti boys who come and bother us good people with your juvenile nonsense. Every lame attempt by one of you "pop-up gophers" aka "pogo's" to legitimize the brat pack's assault only keeps it fresh in our minds what immature bullies Sam, Elia, and Ilan are.

So do, refresh our memory again and again, all ye Gotti-wanna-be's.

You know you want to.

You do.

You really do.

And, just a little added note. I hope once back in Vegas, the restaurant owners there see this and tell Elia to 'PACK HER KNIVES AND LEAVE TOWN"! In the beginning when she said she had worked with him before, defended him, blah blah blah, she showed herself to be a good person, someone who would be nice to work with. THEN, after joining the 'DARK SIDE", she turned her back on someone she concidered a friend. Go back to your family Elia, cook for them because any self-respecting chef should be afraid to have you in their kitchen. JMHO, take it or leave it.

I've been a TC fan and I have to concur my disappointment with this episode. I'm an arist and foodie and really enjoy the creativity of the challenges. Certainly Marcel was oppinionated but I don't get why he was so hated. This episode was a complete downer. How embarassing for the judges to have this kind of behavior displayed in front of Chef Ripert.

All I can say is Ilan and Elia are very lucky that they are such good looking people. I sincerly hope Elia donated her hair to Locks for Love.
RitaG
Thinking about it, I believe the judges/producers, whoever is in charge are underestimating the viewers. They seem to feel they must defend Sam and the others but if we, the majority of viewers, wanted to watch a wrestling show we would not be watching a show called Top Chef. I thought this was supposed to be a show about cooking and who was the best cook. At this point I don't think any of them should win that title. I feel bad for the judges because they have to give it to someone but none of them deserve it. Marcel has been used as a whipping boy for most of these shows, but I have seen all of them and there is just no rationale reason for it. I have to say this is a most immature group. If Elia had stuck up for Marcel I would say she should be the winner, but she has not. Sam had the appearance of a man who could go far on tv but not anymore or at least I won't be watching him. What a shame.

Last year's group was much much better. I know you probably don't want to do it, but I would love to see reruns of last year instead of this season. It pains me to watch anymore of this season's shows.

Sure. amongst friends. Not from one person who wanted to "slap Marcel's face" from the "moment" he met him. That's just bullying. No offer for a beer is part of that script.

Considering the fact that these people were forced to be togeather and forced to interact with each other 24/7 I don't see it that way. If I was forced to be in the proximity of someone like Marcel 24/7 and he acted the way he did I'd probably tool on him too. And Frank for Snoreing and Mike for being a kuncklehead and Ilan for looking like Ted Alenn, wether I knew them or not.

LOLZ You really believe that some Nazi dude went and drafted this troop of people and FORCED them to live together 24/7? They were clamoring to be on this show. And reality TV is nothing new.. they knew what they were in for. So please do not try to excuse the actions of these [expletive deleted] under the blanket of saying that they were FORCED to do anything.

Actually next to Survivor and Road Rules, or any other show where the accomodations are the hook of the show, these were probably the worst living arrangements I have seen on Reality TV. When MTV treats its Real World contestants better than Bravo you know something is wrong. As Harold said last year, on a cooking show you shouldn't have to hide in the bathroom to find some solitary space. And the first season of Top Chef had MUCH better accomidations than this season. Bunk Beds? One Bathroom? No Air conditioning during a heatwave, but all the Booze and Tobacco you want? Hell even the Ultimate Fighter show that wants its contestants to fight each other puts them into accomidations that are palacial compared to Top Chef. Bravo should have just locked them in a shipping container inbetween challanges. It doesn't excuse anything but it sure explains a hell of a lot.
WhataJoke
Just to get this back about the food....

I found this interesting from Tom's EW interview.

EW: What was the worst thing you tasted all season?
TC: Something that Marcel made. It could've been a Quickfire challenge. It was clam and, like, hearts of palm and something else. Clams when they're room temperature and warm, they're disgusting. And that's how they were. They were just gross.

EW: Best thing?
TC: It could've been the fideos dish that Ilan made last night, the toasted pasta. It was really good, really, really flavorful. That's what comes to mind.

And for those of you judging at home the Clams, hearts of Palm and Coconut was the dish that Amazon tried to mistakenly blame on Cliff...

Amazon, come admit your mistake, or do you have the courage of a pigmy?

it's never..he hit me...she stole my belongings...he lied about me to x, .....no actual harmful actions...just psychodrama...usually a projection of the insecurities of the person who eventually becomes the one who actually does something to actually cause harm to the "annoying one."

If Marcel were truly the Olympian Annoyance Ma Barker and the Brat Pack make him out to be, Tom would have seen it and acknowledged it. He has done just the opposite.

And in my experience, anyone that annoyinmg would never have the presence of mind to react so maturely to all the actual abuse he is getting. They'd at the very least have Ilan's smirk and at the worst destructive revengeful behavior.

NOt buying it. They're simply torturing that guy because they intuitively know he has a gift and won't be distracted by them either in this contest which the remaining three desperately want to win, or in life itself. That just drives insecure people NUTS!

Kristl....thank you for asking, I was catching up as a distraction to the last few days. My mom took a turn for the worse, and to honor her living will, the family had her taken off machines and meds on Monday and she passed away two hours later. We are honoring her wishes by celebrating the 9000+ extra sunrises she shared with us. She always told us that every day after her 50th birthday was a gift, and since she almost made it to 76 years old....well, we did the math, and it came out to over 9000 extra days that we had her with us beyond her own expectation. We are celebrating the facts the in those 9000+ days, she was gifted with the marriages of both her younger daughters, the birth of her only grandson, and seeing that grandson (her "bud", my son) make it to teenager-hood. I miss her.

Jazzie, that was a beautiful tribute to your Mother! I am so sorry for your loss, and hope that all your memories of her will shine brightly in every sunrise YOU experience. My prayers to you and your family.

A few of the chefs have said that in QF the heat and the lights make the food terrible after awhile.....That whole process takes way longer than we see...By the time Tom gets there it's not what it was supposed to be originally..I am honestly not defending his dish just because it's Marcel ...It may well have been gross....I would have said that for any chef.

Hey JMe, jumping in here because there is no way in HELL I am going to read over 300 posts!! SO, here goes my opinion.
First, for some reason, was feeling very let-down after this episode. Partly because I felt that Ilan should have been reprimanded in some way for his antics behind the camera..."come on Sam, get the clippers, Cliff has him down..." etc. He is such a scary little thing! To have that much hate for a person, WOW!!! Definately need the psycho music playing right about now. AND, Sam should have been called out on this too. He just sat there laughing, and even though he SAID he was uncomfortable with what was going on, he still did NOTHING. You can't tell me that they ALL didn't realize what was happening was wrong. Elia, not sure where she was, but heard her in the back ground saying something like "I can't do that" (not a direct quote) ALL PARTIES SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUNISHED FOR THIS!!!

Now, the food. What ever gave Ilan the idea that 'CHICKEN LIVER BON BONS' was a good idea!! Holy crap, that was just GROSS! The other QF dishes were ok, nothing special in my eyes, but way better than Ilan's disaster!
I know Cliff was probably going home anyway, but because of his assinine behavior, he did not leave with dignity. I still think he should have left instead of Mike, even though Tom said i was because he contributed the least to the EC.

Someone said that Cliff knocked Marcel's tray of salmon on the floor. Did he? Not sure, but he did say he saw it falling and it didn't look like he did anything to stop it. However, Marcel thought quickly and saved his dish by reducing the portion size. Nice going Marcel!

Elia says she took all of the offered cooking courses at some fancy schmancy school, yet she didn't know that cream needed to be COLD to whip?!!!!!! Good heavens girl, common sense should have told you that. She does not have what it takes to be TC, as someone pointed out..."I quit", "I give up" not TC comments.

As for the TRUE Top Chef???? Sam MAY be a better chef than Marcel, but in the face of all the ridicule and harassment that Marcel took, he showed a maturity that the others only dream of posessing. Sam showed his colors by sitting by and not stopping the Cliff/Marcel?Ilan incident, knowing full well that it was out of control. SO, I do hope Marcel wins. Because, TC means to be able to keep control of yourself in trying times, and NONE of the others have proven that they are capable of that.

Long, yes, but will now step off my soap box, and wait for the disagreements/agreements to come pouring in.

Don't know if you guys are talking about this aspect anywhere but let's talk about Cliff's choice of dishes for this challenge.

SIRLOIN? SIRLOIN? He is given the task to make a sensuous love meal for couples and he chooses SIRLOIN? I'm not a beef expert by any means but isn't sirloin kind of at the bottom of the stack for meat/steak quality? Where was the filet? Some kind of chateaubriande for two done in a new way? I didn't catch a budget issue for this challenge. Why sirloin?

(Clearly he would have been sent packing on this episode without the Marcel incident on his dish alone...but sirloin? I don't get it)

PS. In my dream last night I met Ted Allen at a party and was telling him how the message boards are buzzing with trying to get him a permanent placement on this show. Maybe I'm a little too obsessed with it.....wink.gif

i'm sorry you can't grasp the notion of personal privacy and safety. maybe if yours is violated by someone twice as big as you who actively dislikes you, you might get a glimmer....

no one was going to die. this was a controlled environment.

Funny, you say Marcel could have hurt Ilan's eye...I didn't see any black eye on Ilan, (too bad!) but Marcel did have bruises and carpet burns..so who really got hurt here? How did Marcel know Cliff wasn't going to hurt him? There sure hadn't been any indication of friendship shown so far in the show towards him. Plus, at first he didn't even KNOW it was Cliff. Controlled? WTF have you been reading??? Controlled alright, by the three a-holes!

Do you all think there might be a repeat from last season's setup that had the last four eliminated cheftestants come in to act as sous chefs for the final two? Since Cliff has been banished from all that is Bravo, that would leave Mikey and Betty and whichever 2 of the top 4 who lose next week.

However way it goes, whether Marcel is one of the top two or has to help one of the top two win....it could make for quite an interesting dynamic where karma could really come full circle just like it did for Tiffany and her previous treatment of Dave "I'm not your [expletive deleted], [expletive deleted]!" Good points (dang I miss Dave). Will they have a "reunion show" this season? I'd be very interested to hear the thoughts on the Marcel incident. Betty will probably be saying how Marcel deserved it and how she regretted not being there to pull his hair out of his scalp follicle by follicle.

I do think we'll see Ilan and Sam at the final 2 but Marcel WILL come back in some form (not that I wouldn't like to see him there, just a hunch).

Marcel was in awe of Chef Ripert...He chooses salmon....Pretty basic salmon???..Cliff..Sirloin????
What were they thinking???

Poor Chef Ripert probably thought he had wandered onto the set of Jackass.....lol....Oy!

LOL! Yes, Salmon too. Weird! Where was the foie gras, etc? (I had an incredible ravioli filled with foie gras at the best meal I've ever eaten at Opus Grill in LA which would have been VERY impressive with this meal)

A few of the chefs have said that in QF the heat and the lights make the food terrible after awhile.....That whole process takes way longer than we see...By the time Tom gets there it's not what it was supposed to be originally..I am honestly not defending his dish just because it's Marcel ...It may well have been gross....I would have said that for any chef.

Miss Savant 2007 has to be fair and impartial....lol

Yes Siz ...We can be co/ Miss Savants 2007
You did by rights get to the top first..Even if you did sleep with all the judges to get there...I will overlook that...If we need each other and cannot fufill our duties we will step in for one another.

Our first project as co Miss Savants of 2007????

Lets see if we can my arse out of that bus door why don't we???

It's killing me....Heeeeeeelp!Where's Paula with that damn butter???
And then we get JUSTME to be just a wee bit less shy ...lol

After that...we party like it's 1999..After all... we are pageant winners.

Woooooohooooooo

One more thing before I head out for the day. I am hosting a tasting menu dinner party in a few weeks and am intending to attempt Ilan's fideo dish (recipe is on Bravo site) for it if I can only find clams in the desert. Wish me luck!

Do you all think there might be a repeat from last season's setup that had the last four eliminated cheftestants come in to act as sous chefs for the final two? Since Cliff has been banished from all that is Bravo, that would leave Mikey and Betty and whichever 2 of the top 4 who lose next week.

However way it goes, whether Marcel is one of the top two or has to help one of the top two win....it could make for quite an interesting dynamic where karma could really come full circle just like it did for Tiffany and her previous treatment of Dave "I'm not your [expletive deleted], [expletive deleted]!" Martin.

I've thought about this too. I think Marcel would conduct himself in a mature upstanding manner much like Dave did. (And Tiff still managed to steal his thunder with lying to judges about who's dessert dish it really was.)

I really hope that if Marcel is in the final two, that the 2 would have their choice of the chefs from the entire crew of cheftestants. For fairness sake... because the producers already know that these 3 children cannot be trusted.

LOL........Next dream tell him I love him please.
I had a dream last week too and had the whole thing all figured out....Obsessed..Moi????
