I'm getting to where I can't stand Bravo shows anymore. Sad, but true.
The end of this episode was stupid: Judge Tom is fat and bitchy this season. They needed to use some common sense with the Cliff situation and consider the circumstances. The Judges need to mind their own business when it comes to hair. Gail needs to get real when she talks about behavior and what they are looking for - they are looking for a cook, forchissake, not a presidential candidate. And please please please get guest judges people can actually understand!!

I really hope at some point(for their own sakes) that the asshats do a Stephen and apologize/admit to their asshattery. Look at Stephen-he was a tool and a douche-but after his acknowledgements at the reunion he was greatly forgiven and even embraced by many. If Sammyboy, Ilan, Elia, etc. have any sense they will come out with some kind of apology/acknowledgement to redeem themselves. Right now Sam, Ilan, and Cliff seem to just be trying to almost justify what happened-and that is not going to cut it. They hopefully will realize before this season is over how wrong they are and will admit to it and apologize. No matter what happens in the finale it will not redeem them from this assault incident.
As with Stephen you can see the viewers/public at large are very forgiving if the responsible parties fess up and apologize. I hope some of them are reading this and take it to heart. If they would apologize and admit the wrong(and their part in it) I know I would be willing to cut them some slack..any others think the same??
Yes, that would redeem them. But given that Cliff is making up stories about how he treated Marcel like a little brother or puppy dog(jeez talk about child abuse/animal cruelty) and the way Sam and Ilan have continued to slander Marcel in magazine articles, I'm not holding my breath.
Karma will take care of the rest.

watch close. there's a cut as we see Marcel walk into the bathroom. then another cut as he comes out and whacks the camera. How do we know the scene of him walking in the bathroom came AFTER getting jumped by Cliff. That could have been shot 2 weeks earlier. <shrug> there's no way we could possibly know. It LOOKS like he's dressed the same, lighting is the same but anytime you see a cut there's a chance of editing.
Why would he go in the bathroom and take off his T-shirt and pants? If you just got jumped; would you strip down to your boxers? what if Ilan jumped him or Sam. who wants to fight in their boxers. that's a pretty vulnerable feeling. Most people would keep their clothes on in that situation. I certainly would.
I'm not taking a position on this. I wasn't in the editing room. But, it is something to think about.

I just viewed some stills from the episode. In the stills, Marcel has just broken free from Cliff and is walking away. Elia is clearly seen to his right, on the floor laughing - with a full head of hair!!!! That means that their attack and attempt to shave his head happened prior to shaving their head. Which makes their actions even worse - they continued with their revalry and laughing after Marcel was attacked. It proves Elia did know what was going on and obviously found it as funny as Sam and Ilan did - horrible just horrible. And it shows they obviously had no guilt or concerns about what they did. We were lead to believe what we saw happened last - when really it began their drunken escapades.
Shame on you bravo for trying to make this look less than it was. Poor decision on the parts of the editors to make it look that way. And now I'm upset with Tom's blog seeming to state the same event when he implies that he saw the original video. If that was so than obviously you knew all along that they attacked Marcel first.
I would also like to point out that Cliff only apologized after he was kicked off the show - after he had been caught. If he had been a real man, he would have apologized immediately or first thing the next morning. And before he left, it was Marcel that initiated the bridge for a reconcilliation of some sorts when he told Cliff "sorry it had to work out this way." As if Marcel had anything to apologize for in that particular situation.
I'm thoroughly disgusted!
OMG! ROTFLMAO!!! Someone just drug you off the couch, flipped you over on your stomach and jumped on top...you get away, and then come back in your boxers...(I'd finish this, but.....I'm not that guy)

You know what would make a good special since there is going to be no reunion? Let the top four contestants from season 2 get to be the judges. They get to select a quick fire and elimination challenge. Tom C. and some past guest judges compete. I think that would be great fun. It would be interesting to see what these more experienced chefs can come up with. The harder the challenge, the better.

I wonder who, if any, of the original chefs might have stood up for Marcel that awful night. Certainly, not Betty. Maybe Mia or Josie.
You may think this sounds odd, after his actual threatening Marcel, but I think Frank wouldn't have put up with it. Frank is a good guy and I don't think he would condone a gang of people going against one person. It just doesn't seem like something he would be with.
I totally agree...Frank is not easily led.He is older and wiser..A Chef is always a gentleman he said.Well.not always Frank but I do think he would have had no part in that childish cruel behavior.

The way I remember it, it was only Sam talking to Frank. I don't remember seeing anyone else present.
If you are right and I am wrong, then how did Sam know that Marcel had done anything to anyone's stuff? Is he a psychic?
When Frank comes back and gets in Marcel's face, Marcel is sitting on an ice chest drinking a beer right next to Mikey (?). That whole thing took place in a room full of people.
Marcel told Sam,in the gents loft "there was stuff and toiletries all over and I threw them on the floor." Sam went down to the ladies loft and told Frank what Marcel had said. Frank went back, saw his stuff and went back down to the ladies loft and threatened Marcel with great bodily harm.
As much as I had my differences on prior boards with ChelseaNH, I do have to admit that she had her facts straight as far as her recapping skills and her attention to detail.
Her take on the "toothbrush fiasco" at http://chelseanh.blogspot.com/2006/11/turkey-day.html reads:
The top half is hanging out in the "communal loft." Ilan and Cliff are sleeping, which seems like an excellent use of free time to me. Frank interviews that having time off is great, and he expects animosity from the losing chefs. Marcel strolls in and tells them that he threw all the stuff left on the counter onto the floor. Which sounds a lot worse than what he actually did, so I have wonder if he's trying to stir up trouble. Sam interviews that Marcel is selfish and conceited. Sam tells Frank that his roomie (Marcel) has been disrespecting his stuff. Frank goes back to the loft to check and discovers that his toothbrush is on the floor. Well, technically, no, the toothbrush is in his toiletry kit, but that's on the floor, so Frank isn't completely exaggerating. Frank stares down Marcel and threatens to beat him to a pulp if he ever messes with Frank's stuff again. Except Frank doesn't really sound furious, so as threats go, it's more theater than anything else. Marcel looks at Michael like, "Can you believe this guy?" Marcel recaps that Frank was a "crazy wildebeest," which isn't what I saw. Marcel asks what prompted Frank's behavior, and Frank reminds him about the toothbrush on the floor. Marcel points out that it's in the toiletry bag -- although he himself said he put their stuff on the floor when he came in, so it's a bit late to be splitting hairs. Marcel interviews that things are getting "personal" now. Well, yes, messing with people's personal property will do that. I do think Marcel was perfectly justified in clearing off the counters, but it would have been better to put the stuff someplace up off the floor, and it would have been much better not to walk in bragging how he tossed everyone's stuff in a corner. It's more to the point to complain that he had to waste time cleaning up the kitchen.
So, take it for what you will, I guess.

Just jumping in to ask a question, maybe Actor and/Holster or whomever...
With the rules clearly stating, threatening or actual physical contact can get you thrown off the program, do you think if they had either repremanded or thrown Frank off the show (like the just did with Cliff) when he threatened Marcel it would have prevented the craziness (scuffle) that happened on the last episode?
I think it would have stopped everyone in their tracks. Yes. As Tom C said, being silent is as bad as actively doing something wrong. In that sense, the producers, and Tom, if he knew about it, are at fault for "permitting" if not "encouraging" Marcel bashing. As a former teacher and design studio manager, I know the value of a few well chosen words. Even with "adults." As my father said, running a business is 90% people problems, 10% business.
So, yes, I do think so. But Betty is a wild card, and nothing may have stopped her narcissistic rages. Ilan is a coward and would have towed the line. Sam and Elia too.
So instead of the drama, we probably would have seen more "silent treatment." THAT would have sent the producers into depression....which perhaps is where they wiil be sent when they realize how inhumanely they have used these people for monetary gain.
Thanks to both Actor and Holster for the answers.
I too believe that had the repremanded Frank or sent him packing it might have stopped what happened. I agree it may not have stopped Betty, but she might have reigned in a little. I also agree the producers would be depressed had the silent treatment started.
Because the Bravo/Top Chef management did not step in when Frank's threat was made, I feel the Bravo/Top Chef team were just as guilty. They stood by and watched it develop also. So I believe the management is equally responsible for the actions of the last episode.

I think you are absolutely right. It would not be difficult to legally argue their culpability in creating a hostile environment...in a regular business, Ilan would have been fired long ago for sexual harassment.
And given the contractual nature of this show, it is technically a business, and subject to federal law.
Given the statute of limitations, it is no surprise that Bravo had Cliff on video Wed night putting out the "little brother" fiction. Marcel could sue at any time. I'm just glad he has the kind of integrity the others lack and won't stoop to a MickyD-style lawsuit.

I wondered about that too. Tom C's blog states "Bravo's Legal department advised us of the Top Chef rules, which stated that harming or threatening to harm other contestants was potential grounds for disqualification."
If that was the case, and if "threatening to harm" another contestant was grounds for disqualification just as much as "actually harming" one was, then why wasn't Frank disqualified for his threat against Marcel? Maybe Bravo didn't feel the threat was "serious" or "serious enough" at the time?
I liked Frank (at least better than I liked other contestants at the time), and I don't despise Marcel, but if you're going to apply a set of rules, you shouldn't get to pick and choose who those rules apply to, and it seems to me that Bravo played a double standard in dealing with Cliff and Frank.
Yes, I think all the remaining chefs played atrocious and possibly dangerous and damaging parts in what was done to Marcel, but if they disqualified them all, there would be no show left, which means an abrupt end to the season, an abrupt end to the viewership, and an abrupt end to the drama, to Bravo's numbers in the ratings, and to the intense discussion of it here.
Nevertheless, it still bugs me that Frank wasn't held to the same "rules" microscope as Cliff for his verbal threat against Marcel.

I see your point. I believe that whole scenario could have been avoided had the proper steps been taken earlier by the management. I agree Marcel is no angel. I think the whole group that is left is a less than desirable group. Management needs to realize that they helped foster the incident.

Absolutely. It says a great deal about the producers. But, ya know, this is Hollywood. Cash cow machine with no ethics or morality...the corporations, not necessarily the talent. Ari on Entourage is just a shadow of what vultures live there.
It is what it is.
Based on what the judges did to those disadvantaged young men on American Idol, I choose not to watch further. Millions have decided otherwise. TV has become our colliseum. Feed em to the lions...or 21st Century Foxes.

everyone is taking this thing way too seriously.
it's a freaken tv show. the production people put these people into a pressure cooker. Read Tom C's Blog.
He explains some of the rules. These people weren't given ANY WAY to relax and get away from each other. They couldn't listen to music on headphones, no tv. They couldn't even take a walk to calm down. Marcel on rapping on the roof? That was a violation of the rules. It was a staged scene. These people had cameras in their faces every moment of the day and night.
don't take my word for it. Read the contestant rules for yourself
http://www.bravotv.com/blog/tomcolicchio/2...f_champions.phpGiven the circumstances I'm amazed something worse didn't happen. So Cliff snapped. Get over it.
I'm fed up with this thread. People can't even take a simple joke anymore. I'll be back in a couple weeks to
calmly and rationally talk about the winner.

I just can't believe a show I used to just love, has been reduced to what it has. I'm to the point where I don't even care who wins, I just want it over... and by the looks of things were in for MORE drama next Wednesday. I was really hoping things would get back on track but it doesn't look to be.

I am not saying they really had to send Frank home for the threatening (and it states that they can), they could have sent Tom in there when it happened and spoke to Frank about the rules and then spoke to the group to remind them all what was in the contract they signed. This group of cheftestants were spinning out of control from almost the beginning and they needed, the management, to step in and stop it when the Frank threatening of Marcel happened.

I don't like they manipulated the time line on attacking Marcell and when they decided to shave their heads. They shaved their heads after they attacked Marcel.
I taped the show and if you look at the floor behind Marcell as he got free and is walking to the door you see Elia on her knees doubled over in laughter WITH A FULL HEAD OF HAIR. The bull Cliff and the others spewed about shaving their heads then thinking what a great idea it might be to shave Marcell's is all a bunch of lies. The A$$es shaved their heads afterwards.

And I repeat....
It sounds like you have never been pulled from your bed late at night while sleeping by someone twice your size and weight and then was picked up off the floor and taken to the ground in a hold that has been banished from high school and colege wrestling because it has caused too many broken necks, and all the while having people who have previously threatened and screamed in your face, laughing and egging the assaulter on.
These were and are not Marcel's friends. They are not high school or frat boys, they are not brothers...they are people who intensely dislike and hate Marcel and want him gone. And everyone knows that.
You have no idea of the terror the psyche goes through. Nor the strain put upon the physical heart.
And if you did, you and those like you would never write what you have written. And it's only that ignorance that saves you from the condemnation you would otherwise deserve.
You have uneccessarily exaggerated the general concerns expressed in this forum. It was an aggressive assault. It could have resulted in serious physical injury, even death, especially considering Cliff's drunken state and resulting impaired judgment. It could have been pursued legally. Marcel chose not to. Good for him.
Any attempt to dilute it's seriousness is just as heinous in nature as the assault itself. We watch for children who torture animals because its an indicator of serious sociopathic tendencies. So too any unwanted physical assault by an unfriendly person upon another innocent person asleep in the safety of his home, temoprary or otherwise.
The inviolatibilty of the human person is a sacred and cherished right in a free society. The sole purpose of our laws is to protect that god-given right. No one should ever be made to feel in jeopardy of it. Ever.
Why take that kind of forced public humi

No, Frank wasn't sent home immediately, but he was gone in the next episode where, clearly, it was Sam who deserved to go strictly based on the surfer's poll. Sam did not even attempt to fix his dish while Frank did. Also Frank's strawberry/waffle dessert was well-received by both surfers and judges alike. Cliff was also a candidate for elimination while having the only dish with sand in it making it inedible. I think there were mitigating circumstances in that Frank's $300 sunglasses were actually broken (Marcel admitted it but blamed it on a PA stepping on them) plus in his threat to Marcel he said "IF you ever touch my personal things again..." which was a strong way of saying "Don't do it again."

I think we all agree with you when you say it is a reality tv show, what we are saying is the management let the incident happen by not checking it way back when the Frank threat happened. They are responsible also to the prank happening. Then they, the management gets all self righteous and kick Sam off the show. They can not have it both ways. They need to apply the rules equally or not at all. They are just as responsible as the pranksters were in all of this.

And the proof lies in this:
1) Cliff was taped live Wed night blathering on and on about he treated Marcel as a little brother and that they were friends. And we all know what a crock that was and is. So, why??? Why this lying on Cliff's part?? BECAUSE HE KNOWS HE SERIOUSLY FUKED UP! If it truly was just a prank, just roomates havin a bit of fun, he would be saying so...but he's not.
2) Bravo intentionally re-edited the sequence of events to minimize the conspiratorial and assaultive nature of the whole evening. Why? When someone is lying or hiding, they are already admitting their guilt.
This episode stinks for a reason...someone pushed the garbage under the rug. And they are praying that enough "do nothings" dismiss at as a prank.

In my humble opinion a threat is a threat, and Frank threatened Marcel.

Saying "if" doesn't matter, it was a threat nonetheless, and considering that Frank is considerably larger and more vocally and physically assertive than Marcel, it leaves little doubt as to the statement's full weight on the "little guy."
And while Cliff would have most likely ended up being eliminated for his dishes in the same episode as his elimination for harming another contestant, at least Frank was given another episode's chance to prove himself, and was eliminated legitimately on his dishes alone.

Marcel did not admit breaking the glasses. No one knows who did it. However Frank said that he demanded that Marcel pay for them, and Marcel said he would. Probably to calm down the enraged bully.
