Hey, does anyone have a favorite food movie??
A friend recommended "The Big Night" but I haven't seen it yet.
My favorite is Babette's Feast.
Wouldn't it be great if Christopher Guest (Best of Show) made a movie about the restaurant biz??? Could be hysterical.

WOW! Listen to this about the "Assault"
"Let's talk about the most controversial moment on the show, when Cliff, Ilan and Sam assaulted you in the last challenge.
"I'm taking a nap on the couch, and Cliff picked me up in a full-nelson, tossed me on the floor. The plan was to toss me around like a rag doll and have Ilan hold a camera and Sam shave me while Cliff held me down."
Sounds like something out of Lords of Discipline.
"Exactly! I broke free and told them to get away from me. I went into my room and tried to take a nap, and Cliff follows me in there and starts hurling chocolate bars at me! I then had to go to another room and lock the door."
NO wonder Cliff is trying to act all kissy-face. Unbelievable. Children.

Well, for some reason I think watching Al Roler is like eating glass, and although I ADORE Joan Cusack (who grew up in my hood) in the movies, I found her quite odd in the culinary show....lke she was on qualudes or something.

What really is bad is Elia now wrapping herself in the cloak of the Christian faith, claiming how important it is to her, how she reads the Bible every day, yadda yadda yadda. Clearly, if she actually does study the Bible every day, she must be limiting it to the Book of Job, because NOTHING that Jesus Christ ever espoused was reflected in her actions that night.
I was in Job's Daughters (an organization with Masonic affiliation) for many years, and if nothing else, the lessons of Job taught us that in the face of adversity, one must have absolute faith in the face of challenge, the knowledge that you will, indeed, be tested, that your adversary can and will test you to your very limits (you may not win, but if you do, you'll be rewarded a hundred fold), and that forgiveness--of your God, The Adversary and those around you--is all part of something beyond our scope but within our possibilities.
All that may not have been on Elia's mind that night of shearing, but I'm willing to bet it was the morning after, and I think she was counting on the fact that "forgiveness" was a fairly big deal in Christ's book as well as Job's.
I'm not especially "Christian" anymore, but if Elia wants to "cloak herself in the Christian faith," then that's her own bugaboo and her own "cross to bear," and maybe she doesn't even feel she did anything worth repenting for.
Religion is such a touchy subject overall, and kind of creepy when applied to a reality show, but since it was brought up and all ...

I do. But of course I'monly guessing from the various clues. What I do know is that once Marcel's story does get out...as it is now...sympathy wil be wholly in his corner and Betty, Sam, Elan, and Elia should take themselves to a monastery/convent.
I can see people boycotting Grub in LA or Casa Mono in NYC and Salute in Jersey....not something I would endorse, but people are pretty passionate about this show and especially about how Marcel has been treated.

Very good interview...
I am not a Marcel fan.. Even though he is young and small he stood up to everyone that picked on him and all the chriticism.. And then some Chick hits him in the head with a beer bottle? Hope she was arrested for that...
Bravo......Looks like this backfired big time... I say biggest ratings would have been to put them at JT. Make them watch the video and One By one Send them Packing..
maybe for the Finale you could have done a cookoff with Harold (dave) Vs Marcel (Leann Sous chef)
OR Even the Kid Vs the King
Marcel vs Chef Tom.... i would have watched anything other than the next two shows.. which I wont see.. I will get my results of the board...
FYI I am not buying any of the sponsors products as the producers overulled Judge Tom's Correct and moral decision to DQ the other cheftestants which they more than deserve.

Thank you, Julias. I agree completely. What seems weird to me is that the point of view that, "Gee, it's not like he was hurt. No big deal." And blaming Marcel for not being able to accurately analyze who was doing what and whether or not he was really being attacked? After being jumped on in a dead sleep?
All drama aside, don't ever wake me up from a dead sleep and throw me on the ground. And certainly don't put me in a headlock - nor anyone else who has even slight claustrophobia. We can't stand to be confined. Immediate fury!!
I must say that if what happened to Marcel happened to me, I would probably play the challenge out to the end. And I would think about what to do, long and hard - the public humiliation at being overpowered, on national television no less, would be very stressful to me. By the way, I'm a girl, not athletic nor particularly strong. A definite girly-girl, not a guy.
Personally, my dilemma would be whether to just let the whole thing go and just move on with no hard feelings, or to file a formal criminal complaint against Cliff, and probably against the rest of them as well, since the tape supports all of them knowing what was happening and they just watched/ignored/continued to cut their hair. There has been a pattern of abuse that Bravo ignored, yet televised (go figure). I would probably sue Bravo for not intervening beginning when that idiot threatened to beat me until I was unrecognizeable. And for the pattern of abuse that they filmed and that continued all the way up until Attack Night.
Although Attack Night did not have any Bravo employees around, there was certainly enough hateful and threating comments to predict what would likely happen in that pressure cooker of competition. To blame Colicchio, or Padma or Gail is not reasonable because they are just judges. BUT...
Those camera guys, hired by Bravo to film each event, have been there for every single crappy thing all of them have done and said, except on the Attack Night. And the Producers/Editors have seen every single inch of every single taped moment that the camera people filmed. To make the Reality Show. I feel certain that the camera people spoke to the Producers about what was happening and they pooh-pooh'd it. Maybe not.
Those who say, "It's only hair." are missing the point. Even I, as an admitted girly girl, don't get upset when a hairdresser cuts my hair too short. Hair grows. If I was attacked like that, my haircut would be the least of my issues. In my mind, it is EXACTLY like being raped.
It's not that I don't love sex, when it's my idea, even if I am disappointed in how it turns out (like a haircut that is too short). It is a whole different ballgame when I am pinned to the floor and forced to have sex (or my head shaved). Aggression and power, you guys. Women will certainly understand, no?
Rape is about aggression and power. That is what those a-holes did to Marcel.

Do you really think bravo would not film that night...after having them under camera for 24/7? it just doesn't make sense. they film them everywhere but the bathroom...that's been said by harold. So waht if the kids borrowed a camera....how does that translaste into bravo not filming. No I wasn't there...none of us were...which is why I don't take what happened on that film as cannon.

The proof lies in the Executive Producer's blog. They knew NOTHING about the assault until Marcel mentioned it in passing during an interview the following day. Only then did they confiscate the tape. So, either the Executive Producer is out-and-out lying, which I find hardly credible, even for this gang, or it is as she said. If someone on sataff had been filming, they would have known about it immediately, and Tom would have been called imediately,

There is no way an Executive Producer is going to lie in black and white in public at the risk of ruining her career or job. What hapopened in Season 1 is not necessarily what happened in Season 2. Of course, she MAY be lying, but it just seems too far-fetched.

With the rules clearly stating, threatening or actual physical contact can get you thrown off the program, do you think if they had either repremanded or thrown Frank off the show (like the just did with Cliff) when he threatened Marcel it would have prevented the craziness (scuffle) that happened on the last episode?
I wondered about that too. Tom C's blog states "Bravo's Legal department advised us of the Top Chef rules, which stated that harming or threatening to harm other contestants was potential grounds for disqualification."
If that was the case, and if "threatening to harm" another contestant was grounds for disqualification just as much as "actually harming" one was, then why wasn't Frank disqualified for his threat against Marcel? Maybe Bravo didn't feel the threat was "serious" or "serious enough" at the time?
I liked Frank (at least better than I liked other contestants at the time), and I don't despise Marcel, but if you're going to apply a set of rules, you shouldn't get to pick and choose who those rules apply to, and it seems to me that Bravo played a double standard in dealing with Cliff and Frank.
Yes, I think all the remaining chefs played atrocious and possibly dangerous and damaging parts in what was done to Marcel, but if they disqualified them all, there would be no show left, which means an abrupt end to the season, an abrupt end to the viewership, and an abrupt end to the drama, to Bravo's numbers in the ratings, and to the intense discussion of it here.
Nevertheless, it still bugs me that Frank wasn't held to the same "rules" microscope as Cliff for his verbal threat against Marcel.
The most important word in the sentence is potential-a little legal wiggle room. Marcel has publicly stated he was not afraid of Frank.
I seriously doubt if it were Chef Tom's kitchen he would get rid of everybody and close down the kitchen for latent rather than patent behavior. Imagine how pleased reserved diners, banquets, suppliers, union contracted services and the like would react. Eliminate the worst offender and move on,
The Elves sign a contract to produce a specified number of episodes for Bravo. It would be a litigious mess to close production a declare a default winner. Can you imagine being in litigation with Sears, Toyota, et al.?
I seem to remember the reality show "The Law Firm", with Roy Black, also shown on NBC/ Bravo. It was the first reality show I had watched--without explanation after a couple of episodes it vanished. The next reality show was TC1 and each week I was left wondering will it be back?
Also with Frank it was more of an 'if this, then that' kind of thing. He did not threaten Marcel outright because of the "If you do such and such... then I will.." statement. He did not say "I am going to beat you..." he said IF you do this again, THEN I am going to beat you..." I think the conditional part kind of helps Frank in that situation.

If someone on sataff had been filming, they would have known about it immediately, and Tom would have been called imediately,
so they don't film them all the time then? so harold was lying? I just don't think we know everything. There are three sides to every story.
There is no way an Executive Producer is going to lie in black and white in public at the risk of ruining her career or job. What hapopened in Season 1 is not necessarily what happened in Season 2. Of course, she MAY be lying, but it just seems too far-fetched.
Wouldn't you say the producers lied when they presented the assault and Ilan and Elia shaving their heads in a different order than the way it really happened?

Clapping for your post...Bravo.....I feel so sad...I thought Ilan was the sweetest thing.....Once I saw his audition video
I knew something was wrong.
Holster said something about peeps are only as good as they were loved..No love..bad behavior to truly snippet to make it shorter..But sometimes the opposite of that is true..Too much love..IE.Scott Peterson.......I am in NO way comparing the two. I just mean some kids who have been treated like stars and spoiled all their lives have a lot of problems too. They have a sense of entitlement and no real value system as they were never held accountable.
That may be the case here.

Bravo absolutly had the camers running, because when they were in the bathroom cutting the hair, they showed Sam with the Camera while Ilan was cutting his hair!

Well I will send over a huge man to awaken you out of a dead sleep & wrestle you to the floor without you having any idea wtf is happening to you or why. And then I'm sure you would sing another tune.
The production staff was not on hand to witness this, otherwise I'm positive that it wouldn't have happened. (Perhaps it would have been joked about, but it wouldn't have come to it's fruition.)
As for the camera.. That was Marcel closing the door on Ilan's buttboy face, and rightly so. Along with the huge black dude I send over to your house I will send over some immature geeky giggling gay guy to film this event for all of the nation to witness & revel in your humiliation.
Then you can tell me how you feel,
if I was in my own house...wiht my roomates and other people...in a lighted room and woken up from a dead sleep by one of my larger roomates, who didn't like me..... ok....so what? It wasn't a dark alley. It was a lighted living room, he was woken up by one of his roomates. Geez..I've been woken up and held down by drill sgts. Guess I had it all wrong...I should have sued!! Not to mention the assault at work. I know how it feels.
marcel did what he did in anger (camera)..cliff did not. I see that as a big difference.
[Good evening, all]
What transpired after watching the show (and that section of the show) several times only underscores what you're saying, ma'am. I was going to bring up the Drill Srgts routine also, but it seems as if Bravo protected themselves from prosecution with the waivers each signs before the filming (of the show).
I wonder if the Military has people sign a waiver also before new recruits get to boot camp. After all, we wouldn't want people to get all scuffed up by the Brute-Squads.
What i'd like to know is if the contestants from Season 1 signed the EXACT same contract, or if this time things were different. If so, it would show that Bravo had "intended" for things to get "rough", and left things "stew in their own juices" for as long as they did here (ending as we all saw).

If the intent was to deceive in order to lessen the sense of conspiracy or assault, yes. Defintely. However, I don't know the case law for "Reality TV"...is it the same as advertising food as "Organic"? Or is it treatyed as fiction? But how could it? If I were a lawyer, I'd be fascinated to unravel it.

Ah! BUt that is not love at all. That is a dangerous co-dependent relationship wherte the parent is more of a child than the child. True love sets boundaries and instills self-respect...something the brat pack lacks but Marcel is firmly founded upon.

This was a lighted room, with a production crew (what did bravo just take the night off???)
Have you forgotten that the chefs borrowed the camera from the production crew?
and we are to beleive that bravo wasn't taping anything that night because the kids borrowed a camera? I dont' think so....
why? were you there? know a cameraman who was? know one of the assaulters?
Do you really think bravo would not film that night...after having them under camera for 24/7? it just doesn't make sense. they film them everywhere but the bathroom...that's been said by harold. So waht if the kids borrowed a camera....how does that translaste into bravo not filming. No I wasn't there...none of us were...which is why I don't take what happened on that film as cannon.

no one was going to die. this was a controlled environment. It wasn't a frat hazing....it wasn't walking on a tightrope across the street....it was controlled...nothing extreme was going to happen. Again...what marcel did with the camera was probably worse. He could have hurt ilans eye had it been on the eye piece. Cliff was not going to hurt him. This wasn't any assualt by a stranger on the street. I talk about this incident...not a general assault.
I've been assaulted in a jail (worked there) by three convicts that outweighed me by a combined 400 pounds.
Kiasmama- see my post on the previous page.
And yes , it is a huge deal when you are awoken to somebody threatening you in a place where you SHOULD have been completely safe from this type of harassment.
I said this earlier but here it goes again, I thought that Cliff was going to seriously unzip his pants & go to town on poor Marcel. I can only imagine what was going through Marcel's mind. I most likely would've pissed my pants given those type of circumstances.
You said it, but i believe that is EXACTLY the difference between hazing/harassment and Assault/Battery.
If Cliff didn't have the beer(s), would he have still been so easily lured by Elia and Ilan into doing what was done? I don't think so. I honestly don't think Cliff's the type of guy to WANT to tempt fate (and a prison record. He's a CHEF, not a SH!T).

Absolutely. I would really be interested in knowing their reason for changing the order of events that night. It seems that in an odd way, they are trying to protect Ilan and Elia by making it look like were hyped up about shaving their heads and they just took their excitement too far. Especially since right before they showed what happened that night, Sam said that it all started when Ilan and Elia decided to shave their heads. Obviously that was an intentional lie on Sam's part, but for some reason the producers felt that they needed to add his comment to the show.

That could have happened much later ...after the assault. Again, the Executive Producer makes clear that no one on staff knew anything about the asault until Marcel mentioned in passing in an interview the day following the assault.
Take it up with her.

Video says otherwise. And his claim that Marcel is "like my little brother" screams it.

Funny, you say Marcel could have hurt Ilan's eye...I didn't see any black eye on Ilan, (too bad!) but Marcel did have bruises and carpet burns..so who really got hurt here? How did Marcel know Cliff wasn't going to hurt him? There sure hadn't been any indication of friendship shown so far in the show towards him. Plus, at first he didn't even KNOW it was Cliff. Controlled? WTF have you been reading??? Controlled alright, by the three a-holes!
...AND the BRAVO Film Crew (who HAD to be there to have given them the camera in the first place (as they said at the beginning of that skit)).
