I think we are starting to loose site of the most important thing we have learned about this show and the people who run it. The assault/prank gone wrong (or however you characterize it) proved that the majority of contestants on this season's show lack any real moral fiber (with the exception of Marcel). But more importantly it proved that the judges do not really pick the winners. The producers of the show pic the person they want to win, and then orchestrate the show around that choice. This sad bit of information is now proven fact. Tom wanted to kick all of the contestants off the show and declare Marcel the winner. The producers said no. So, it is not a fair competiton, probably never has been. Anyone who believes otherwise, just got taken for a fool.
Marcel didn't exaclty smother himself in the foam of integrity when he backstabbed Sam at the judging table after agreeing that he was infact the leader of the holiday challange.
While this may be true, it is not a violation of the rules, Marcel did not assault/prank anyone. The others participated/contributed to Cliff's actions. They are all guilty. And does not change the fact that the producers, not the judges, decided who the winner should be.
My point ws about the moral fiber claim you made. If Marcel was of Moral Fiber he doesn't stab someone in the back who shouldered most of the risk in the challange once the coast is clear.

...it's not really that important.
never is till someone dies...and many have at frat hazings where this stuff happens...and i know ...i ran our hell week...sigma nu, u of az.
i'm sorry you can't grasp the notion of personal privacy and safety. maybe if yours is violated by someone twice as big as you who actively dislikes you, you might get a glimmer....
no one was going to die. this was a controlled environment. It wasn't a frat hazing....it wasn't walking on a tightrope across the street....it was controlled...nothing extreme was going to happen. Again...what marcel did with the camera was probably worse. He could have hurt ilans eye had it been on the eye piece. Cliff was not going to hurt him. This wasn't any assualt by a stranger on the street. I talk about this incident...not a general assault.
I've been assaulted in a jail (worked there) by three convicts that outweighed me by a combined 400 pounds.
Funny, you say Marcel could have hurt Ilan's eye...I didn't see any black eye on Ilan, (too bad!) but Marcel did have bruises and carpet burns..so who really got hurt here? How did Marcel know Cliff wasn't going to hurt him? There sure hadn't been any indication of friendship shown so far in the show towards him. Plus, at first he didn't even KNOW it was Cliff. Controlled? WTF have you been reading??? Controlled alright, by the three a-holes!
And, just a little added note. I hope once back in Vegas, the restaurant owners there see this and tell Elia to 'PACK HER KNIVES AND LEAVE TOWN"! In the beginning when she said she had worked with him before, defended him, blah blah blah, she showed herself to be a good person, someone who would be nice to work with. THEN, after joining the 'DARK SIDE", she turned her back on someone she concidered a friend. Go back to your family Elia, cook for them because any self-respecting chef should be afraid to have you in their kitchen. JMHO, take it or leave it.

Well some would call that having a shrewd, but effective strategy. What the other's participated in was not a strategic move to help them win the competition. They were vocally and physically demeaning Marcel for their pleasure.
So I stand by my minor point. But really, I would still point out, that there seems to be a lack of concern about my main point. Which is that, the producers of the show, are really running things. The "judges" are just a red herrings. The producers pick the winner they feel will garner the best ratings. This means, the show lacks integrity, and unfortunately means the title of Top Chef, doesn't really mean anything.
(but hey, it's entertaining, and the winner (justified or not) does get 100 grand. So it's not all bad.)

Interesting post from TWOP...can't gaurante the accuracy ...
Get this, I just got off the phone with my sister's fiance. He works in one of those five star, hard to get a reservation restuarants in NYC( i can't remember the name for the life of me, my memory sucks) and he gave me some cool info.
His boss and five other owners of those high end restuarants were originally interested in hiring some of the Clipper Clique(my sister's nickname for the asshats), but after watching that last episode, they were all foaming at the mouth to get at Marcel. They want NOTHING to do with Sam, Elia, Cliff or Ilan. And my sister's fiance is dying to work with Marcel. He's actually encouraging his boss to send a head hunter out to him.( I didn't even know the food world had head hunters.) Apparently all the cook/chefs that my sister's fiance(his name is Loki by the way) works with want Marcel.

Marcel didn't exaclty smother himself in the foam of integrity when he backstabbed Sam at the judging table after agreeing that he was infact the leader of the holiday challange.
This is the response that Marcel gave regarding that Judge's table in his interview:
The second incident was your apparent lack of grace at the catering episode when Sam won the challenge.
"Of the 13 dishes, nine of them were my suggestions, and I made four of them. What hurt me about that one was that it wasn't about winning the challenge, but about recognition. I killed myself in that kitchen for them, working 12 straight hours, and I never got one pat on the back or thank you. Ilan and Sam took a lunch hour, which I never did on that challenge, and Betty took off for 30 minutes, slapping on all this makeup, but I worked through it, because I wanted to prove myself a team player. A real leader would offered at least a thank you for all the hard work, but Sam never did."
His pauses and stares at the now-empty shrimp cocktail glass. The wounds are still fresh on this one."Look, maybe I wasn't as gracious as I could have been, but I'm human—there was only so much disrespect I could take."

The Ballad Of The "Bully-Gang"
Yesterday in old Las Vegas
Mr. Vigneron was 'bused.
Now they got the "gang" that did it
On a charge Marcel was used.
Some folks say they just was playin',
Others say they made him pay,
'Cause they all agreed the guy just wasn't all that damn soignee.
(chorus)
Oh, you can't clip your castmate down in old Las Vegas
Not even if it's meant to be in fun.
No, you can't chop your top chef down in old Las Vegas
You know someone'll pack their knives 'n run.
Well, they got him on the sofa
Where he'd gone to take a nap.
They'd been drinkin'; wasn't thinkin
When they thought to shear his cap.
Now, Cliff, he played the muscle man,
And Sam was set to shear.
Ilan was there to film it all,
With Elia there to cheer.
(chorus)
Oh, you can't shear your bunkmate down in old Las Vegas
Not even if you're tired of his cuisine.
No, you can't buzz old 'Foamy down in old Las Vegas
You know it's almost sure to cause a scene.
Well, Cliff, he tried to hold him down,
Ilan was camera-ready.
Sam was laughin' up a storm.
Their nerves were moonshine-steady.
But in the end, the little guy, he up and ran away,
Surely pissed, but "shorn-ly" missed--guess "Foam" don't play 'dat way!
(chorus)
Oh, you can't clip your castmate down in old Las Vegas
And then blame all the damage on moonshine.
No, you can't call him "Chop Chef" down in old Las Vegas
You know the judges won't approve the whine.
Well, they didn't get to shave Marcel.
They kinda chickened out.
But never one to be outdone,
Ilan just had to shout,
"Let's shave our own, since Foamy, he's done run away and hid!"
He said "Elia, cut it out!" and that's exactly what she did.
(chorus)
Oh, you can't shave your a$$es down in old Las Vegas
And then expect to not hear "Let's evict 'em!"
No, you can't save your a$$es down in old Las Vegas
You know the boards'll scream "don't blame the victim!"
So, now they want the "Bully-Gang."
Well, them that's left, they say.
Since Cliff was axed, and asked to pack his bags that fateful day.
The others roam, without their foam, a "pack" that some comdemn.
Like musketeers, they've heard the jeers of "Foul Ad Hominem!"
"Hang 'em high!" the boards'll say.
"They can't treat poor Marcel that way!"
But he'll be back, and we'll all watch
him say "I'm not your b!tch, beeyotch!"
Yes, we can moan, and we'll still fight, but we'll be back next
Wednesday night.
Just lock your doors, 'cause threats don't faze 'er. Here comes Elia with a brand new razor!!!

No, Frank wasn't sent home immediately, but he was gone in the next episode where, clearly, it was Sam who deserved to go strictly based on the surfer's poll. Sam did not even attempt to fix his dish while Frank did. Also Frank's strawberry/waffle dessert was well-received by both surfers and judges alike. Cliff was also a candidate for elimination while having the only dish with sand in it making it inedible. I think there were mitigating circumstances in that Frank's $300 sunglasses were actually broken (Marcel admitted it but blamed it on a PA stepping on them) plus in his threat to Marcel he said "IF you ever touch my personal things again..." which was a strong way of saying "Don't do it again."
In my humble opinion a threat is a threat, and Frank threatened Marcel.
WELL STILL THINK FRANK WOULDN'T HAVE GONE MUCH FURTHER

I've disagreed with this before, and I still do. I thought that Frank was a great chef, in that he could think on his feet. If he had had any more time he would have fixed that dish and we would be talking about what he was going to do in Hawaii now.

Frank was the one I was pulling for from the beginning of the season. I absolutely hated to see him leave. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think they used his threat to Marcel as the real reason for sending him home, but looked for any possible thing they could find in his cooking as their excuse to send him packing. Then Mike became my favorite, but now he's gone, too. Now I'm afraid to have a favorite because I'm sure I'll jinx him, too.

WOW Holster. Thank you for that article. VERY IMPRESSIVE of him. One thing I noticed was that he did mention that he did value Elia's opinion but didn't mention how he felt about her now, after her betrayal. Would love to hear that. If I ever got to Vegas, I would definately look him up. The others? Not a chance. Especially Ilan...who wants to shake hands with a chronic masturbator. LMAO Good one Marcel!

I definitely think you have a valid point Wayne, but I don't think they did it to promote Sam (I AM That Guy), but to prolong the series ....more shows, more profit. I think Tom C was protecting Sam (Should have been booted at the Surfer contest if in fact the judging is not cumulative), but not the producers. But anything at this point could be true. I s still think Marcel would have asked for the show to continue so he can win fair and square.

everyone is taking this thing way too seriously.
And the proof lies in this:
1) Cliff was taped live Wed night blathering on and on about he treated Marcel as a little brother and that they were friends. And we all know what a crock that was and is. So, why??? Why this lying on Cliff's part?? BECAUSE HE KNOWS HE SERIOUSLY FUKED UP! If it truly was just a prank, just roomates havin a bit of fun, he would be saying so...but he's not.
2) Bravo intentionally re-edited the sequence of events to minimize the conspiratorial and assaultive nature of the whole evening. Why? When someone is lying or hiding, they are already admitting their guilt.
This episode stinks for a reason...someone pushed the garbage under the rug. And they are praying that enough "do nothings" dismiss at as a prank.
I would also have to question Bravo's integrity in having CLIFF on to spew a load of butt-covering crap, rather than having Marcel on for the interview. What, exactly, were they afraid Marcel would say? Their credibility goes down even further with that crassly promotional move, IMO.
It was radically obscene to allow Cliff--the actual perpetrator of the assault!--an unopposed opportunity to spin what he did into "hey, I'm a nice guy who got carried away."
Would they have allowed the perpetrator of the assault the same opportunity to to spin what they did if the victim was Elia? Cliff?
Would Andy be trying to, in his blog, spin the assault as a "prank" if the victim was Elia? Cliff?

I was watching last season a few days ago and sitting fuming over Dave's going home in vegas and her taking credit for his fab dessert but was like, now this kind of drama, I can handle! haha. it was so much more innocent. I think that it was all engineered by Bravo to make everyone more accepting of Tiff so they can bring her out like DAve and LeAnne. anyone noticed, she is the only one of the last four who has nothing to do with bravo? I wonder if is her or them?
here's another wild conspiracy theory. I wonder if the winner will offer Marcel the money in apology? that'd be crazy. I mean, I agree, they should have sent them all home. but I don't think they should have declared Marcel winner by default. but perhaps offered him the money and gave no one the title? I guess they couldn't do that though. his food just hasn't been that great. he's been in the middle mostly and a few times on the bottom of the pile.

I'm not blowing anything out of proportion. That challange had winning leader wins challange, losing leader goes home written all over it. If Marcel wanted the credit then step forward and lead. And in reality Sam had to lead because it was the only way to diffuse the Betty/Foamy feud.
Would Marcel have stepped forward and claimed responsiblity for all his work if it had not been well recieved and they were on the chopping block. No Way. It was simply a weasely and opportunistic attempt to grab attention for himself while undercutting Sam.

[No, Frank wasn't sent home immediately, but he was gone in the next episode where, clearly, it was Sam who deserved to go strictly based on the surfer's poll.

I've disagreed with this before, and I still do. I thought that Frank was a great chef, in that he could think on his feet. If he had had any more time he would have fixed that dish and we would be talking about what he was going to do in Hawaii now.
Just my opinion, of course, but it feels right to me.
Frank was the one I was pulling for from the beginning of the season. I absolutely hated to see him leave. ...I understand that you think that our reaction makes light of real assaults, but that is entirely not the case. What happened to Marcel is unacceptable behavior and the kind of assaults you describe are also unacceptable. What I have a problem with is that you said:
"There was no danger"
We all saw Cliff hold Marcel down by his neck. That could easily turn into a very serious injury. Like some hockey player got punched in the neck and now he's paralyzed. Yes, Cliff did not go into this planning to hurt Marcel but it could happen. The fact that nothing more serious than rug burn and bruises happened does not change its unacceptability.
The intent to pull a mean "prank" also does not change.
People seem to take offense to it but this incident fulfills all the legal elements of battery:
intentional harmful or offensive contact of another's person.
The circumstances and consequences change the $ damages. Although you think this was a trivial thing compared to many crimes out there, we should want to deter people from doing this in the future. It is not acceptable.[/quote}
Yet the TC judges/producers rewarded the behavior by sending everybody involved, except for Cliff, to Hawaii. How's that for endorsing "assaulting a sleeping colleague" as one of the qualities necessary to be a top chef?
And even though they sent Cliff home, they rewarded him for his assault by giving him unopposed free air time in which to spin what he did.

Given Sam's begging for fan favorite votes because he's out of a job and "needs the cash" gives us some sense of their character.
