What the other woman wrote earlier is a perfect choice. As you said, NONE of them "deserve" the win. If you HAVE to pick one of them, it'll be the way people elect their Presidents nower days: Not for who you think is the best choice, but who you dislike the least. And that's a really sad state of affairs (on ALL fronts).
I was thinking about printing off pics of the remaining chefs, putting on a very thick blindfold, and throwing darts to determine the "winner." Thankfully *I* don't have to choose!

Interesting post from TWOP...can't gaurante the accuracy ...
Get this, I just got off the phone with my sister's fiance. He works in one of those five star, hard to get a reservation restuarants in NYC( i can't remember the name for the life of me, my memory sucks) and he gave me some cool info.
His boss and five other owners of those high end restuarants were originally interested in hiring some of the Clipper Clique(my sister's nickname for the asshats), but after watching that last episode, they were all foaming at the mouth to get at Marcel. They want NOTHING to do with Sam, Elia, Cliff or Ilan. And my sister's fiance is dying to work with Marcel. He's actually encouraging his boss to send a head hunter out to him.( I didn't even know the food world had head hunters.) Apparently all the cook/chefs that my sister's fiance(his name is Loki by the way) works with want Marcel.

I would guess that not too many employers are going to want the Assault Brigade working for them. Such poor, poor judgment...could leave them open to tremendous liability.
In addition, I don't think it would be a good refleciton on a restaurant, to have any of them working there.
So now Sam,Ilan,Elia and Cliff, people who have not been tried in a court of law for any crime but have been judged by Amazon of the Bravo boards, are to be like sex offenders? Should they register and have their picture put on a website too? Anytime they seek employment, they will dread the " Have you committed an extremley stupid act, while drunk, during taping of a reality tv show?" You do take an analogy and stretch it as far as you possibly can, dont you?

I admit, I have to agree. I grew up with six brothers. And someone was always in the hospital...because of "rough-housing." On the other hand, we were like under the age of 18. But brothers have a special relationship which make that kind of behavior understandable. The weird thing is, no one believes Cliff considered Marcel like a little brother. Why he has come out with that line is truly beyond me. I mean, it's so lame-o.
Well the analogy was a bit off the mark IMO, but then again so was the response.
They pick on Marcel beacause they don't like him. That's really all there is to it. Cliff crossed the line.
Actually, Marcel reveals in his interview that Ilan started trashing him in the private interviews immediately upon meeting him on the first day...sounds like Ilan intentionally targetted Marcel from day one.
And then recruitted Betty, Sam etc etc...til finally he got Elia. Just a possibility supported by the evidence.

I think we are starting to loose site of the most important thing we have learned about this show and the people who run it. The assault/prank gone wrong (or however you characterize it) proved that the majority of contestants on this season's show lack any real moral fiber (with the exception of Marcel). But more importantly it proved that the judges do not really pick the winners. The producers of the show pic the person they want to win, and then orchestrate the show around that choice. This sad bit of information is now proven fact. Tom wanted to kick all of the contestants off the show and declare Marcel the winner. The producers said no. So, it is not a fair competiton, probably never has been. Anyone who believes otherwise, just got taken for a fool.
You are definitely correct about the producers' influence in deciding not to kick them all off, and the degree of control it implies they have over the show.
You may be correct about the producers already deciding who is going to win and constructing the show around that decision, but I think it was more an issue of them not wanting to have to give up the last two shows of the season AND the money involved in already paid for the Hawaii show(s).
They could have kicked the Assault Brigade off the show and brought back two of the previously aufed contestants.
Or, better yet, as I said previously, pick up a couple of the "So You Wanna be a White Rapper" reality show rejected contestants. It's about the level of the TC show now...

Now, either Marcel completely rocked the boat in the finals or she too is somehow cushioning BRAVO from any potential law-suit from Marcel...esp since she said this about no other contestant.

The Ballad Of The "Bully-Gang"
Yesterday in old Las Vegas
Mr. Vigneron was 'bused.
Now they got the "gang" that did it
On a charge Marcel was used.
Some folks say they just was playin',
Others say they made him pay,
'Cause they all agreed the guy just wasn't all that damn soignee.
(chorus)
Oh, you can't clip your castmate down in old Las Vegas
Not even if it's meant to be in fun.
No, you can't chop your top chef down in old Las Vegas
You know someone'll pack their knives 'n run.
Well, they got him on the sofa
Where he'd gone to take a nap.
They'd been drinkin'; wasn't thinkin
When they thought to shear his cap.
Now, Cliff, he played the muscle man,
And Sam was set to shear.
Ilan was there to film it all,
With Elia there to cheer.
(chorus)
Oh, you can't shear your bunkmate down in old Las Vegas
Not even if you're tired of his cuisine.
No, you can't buzz old 'Foamy down in old Las Vegas
You know it's almost sure to cause a scene.
Well, Cliff, he tried to hold him down,
Ilan was camera-ready.
Sam was laughin' up a storm.
Their nerves were moonshine-steady.
But in the end, the little guy, he up and ran away,
Surely pissed, but "shorn-ly" missed--guess "Foam" don't play 'dat way!
(chorus)
Oh, you can't clip your castmate down in old Las Vegas
And then blame all the damage on moonshine.
No, you can't call him "Chop Chef" down in old Las Vegas
You know the judges won't approve the whine.
Well, they didn't get to shave Marcel.
They kinda chickened out.
But never one to be outdone,
Ilan just had to shout,
"Let's shave our own, since Foamy, he's done run away and hid!"
He said "Elia, cut it out!" and that's exactly what she did.
(chorus)
Oh, you can't shave your a$$es down in old Las Vegas
And then expect to not hear "Let's evict 'em!"
No, you can't save your a$$es down in old Las Vegas
You know the boards'll scream "don't blame the victim!"
So, now they want the "Bully-Gang."
Well, them that's left, they say.
Since Cliff was axed, and asked to pack his bags that fateful day.
The others roam, without their foam, a "pack" that some comdemn.
Like musketeers, they've heard the jeers of "Foul Ad Hominem!"
"Hang 'em high!" the boards'll say.
"They can't treat poor Marcel that way!"
But he'll be back, and we'll all watch
him say "I'm not your b!tch, beeyotch!"
Yes, we can moan, and we'll still fight, but we'll be back next
Wednesday night.
Just lock your doors, 'cause threats don't faze 'er. Here comes Elia with a brand new razor!!!

What I thought was really cool was that she got "soignee" in the first stanza! Tres clever.

Frank was the one I was pulling for from the beginning of the season. I absolutely hated to see him leave. Then Mike became my favorite, but now he's gone, too. Now I'm afraid to have a favorite because I'm sure I'll jinx him, too.
Yeah, but that mushroom diorama was just plain weird. Cute for his kid, but juat plain weird for TGIF, which is itself a strange thing to say.
I felt sorry for him because he was obviously trying so hard, but not only was it "just plain weird" for TGIF, there's no way that it could have been mass produced in the TGIF galley environment.
I had to laugh at Tom C's (?) comment about whether he was on mushrooms when he designed it...it did kind of remind me of some culinary dishes I've shared where chemicals imbibed by the cook definitely produced an "Alice-in-Wonderland" effect.

Not really. If just one person ever came on this board and said, "I like Marcel because his food is awesome!" I would be in shock. Most of you people just like him because everyone else hates him. That's got nothing to do with what this contest is supposed to be about.
I'm a "foodie", I like food. I watch the Food Network more than any other channel. I've never seen Project Runway and only a couple episodes of Queer Eye. I used to watch Kathy Griffin cause my wife liked it... but besides those exceptions and Top Chef I never even watch Bravo. Should someone be awarded "Top Chef" honors for cooking the best food, or just because he's the guy most picked upon?
(And before anyone [read: You-Know-Who] decides to bring up my past posting of Sam's message during the Fan Favorite competition as "evidence" that I'm being somehow hypocritical or contradictory, the competitions are two different animals. "Fan Favorite" was and is just that, but "Top Chef" is supposed to be about the food.)
-----
I don't think anyone can come on this board and say I like Marcel, or any other contestant, because of thier food. Because none of us can taste the food. The best we are suited to judge is how they "plate" the food, because that is a visual art. As to the quality of the food, we have to trust what the judges say. But now that it has been proven (and even admitted by the judges themselves) that it is the producers, not the judges, who make the real descisions, we can't even trust them. Knowing this, no one can say that this competition or this show has any integrity. With the exception of Marcel, all the other contestants, broke the rules. And if anyone but Marcel is declared Top Chef, it is at best, a hollow victory. Because how can anyone think that it is ok to win a title like TopChef, or any title for that matter, by cheating, and demeaning your competiton? They can say "from now on it's just about the food" but you can't wipe away the facts, no one but Marcel deserved to even go to Hawaii. Having known a producer for news, sports, Olympics, etc for NBC for many years, we grew up together, and still chat on the phone about once a month. Her comment was producers at all stations have the final word as to what is put on the air. No further comment was made. There must have been a logical reason they did what they did and they are not sharing it with us. I have a feeling it could possibly be a contractional thing with the sponsors.

I have never posted before, and spent today reading up on the boards as I usually do. I've felt like posting several times, but figured, it could wait. Normally I don't feel that strongly about a TV show, or what happens on it, but after this week's episode, I feel compelled.
I am seriously wondering, if we are all watching the *same* show. Granted, I am not there behind the scenes when the cameras go off, but I have seen nothing, absolutely nothing that is so terrible about Marcel to generate this kind of hate.
As a matter of fact, everything I have seen is Marcel being the first to ask anyone if they need help, and so on and so fourth. Arrogant? Yes probably, but he is young, and anxious, but I doubt that warrants the kind of things he has endured here.
I find Elia, Sam and Ilan perhaps, the most passive aggressive people, that it frightens me. Elia "supports" Marcel, yet, does absolutely nothing to help him, publicly stand up for him, or tell others to lay off. This is not a friend, but someone who doesn't want to get involved.
Sam? Now he frightens me, seriously. If he expected at that resource store to not get "backlash" for continually talking (out loud) behind Marcel's back, is he insane? If you were there, and someone was behind you, talking trash and you could hear it, wouldn't you have a problem? I think so, yet I suppose Marcel "instigated" because he talked back?
As for Ilan, bashing Marcel's dishes, and the sexually reomte comments he makes, are also very....... borderline frightening. Anyone in a job could be fired for the derogatory sexual remarks he makes. Yet here, this is okay with some viewers.
The scene with them, the camera, and Marcel manhandled to the floor, horrified me. No, Marcel should not win due to sympathy, but on the food. Yet, at the same time, I do think he has endured quite a huge amount for trying to win a prize. It is a miracle to me, this kid has not gone off crying.
In my viewing, I have not seen on camera, absolutely anything that would make Marcel a "marked man" persea, yet I do see, episode to episode, others inciting HIM. I don't see him being carried by anyone, nor do I see him not helping anyone, except the once where he was swamped this last episode.
Are we all truly watching the same show? I almost seem to doubt it.

Which was a valid criticism, but then again it is a compettion. Each chef has to has his own thing to stand on even when they are on a team as they were in that challenge. Mikey learned that lesson well and that is how he lasted as long as he did. In the end for Mike he trusted Ilan and Sam to win the challenge and broke away from the principle of having his own thing to stand on.

I watch Top Chef becuase I like food, and Marcel's food does not impress me.
I watch TVFN religiously, Sooner, so I feel the same way. So much of this recent bickering has been about everything but the food. Marcel may have made some worthwhile dishes in the course of the show, but right now everyone's championing him not because of his culinary skills, but because they think he was "personally" wronged.
Cliff was the only one punished, but all of them participated in the assault/prank. When Tom C. said they should have been disqualified, the competition should have been over, and Marcel should have won. But the producers have always had someone else in mind to win the title, and so the game continues. But no one should be fooled into thinking this was anything near a fair competition. They should have all been disqualified. unfortunately, this competition has now become a joke.

Frank was the one I was pulling for from the beginning of the season. I absolutely hated to see him leave. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think they used his threat to Marcel as the real reason for sending him home, but looked for any possible thing they could find in his cooking as their excuse to send him packing. Then Mike became my favorite, but now he's gone, too. Now I'm afraid to have a favorite because I'm sure I'll jinx him, too.
I never really had a favorite, last season or this season. Last season most of them seemed equally good, and this season they mostly are equally mediocre. But as Mikey kept slipping through from one round to the other this year, I found myself hoping he would manage to continue skating through somehow even though I knew he wasn't making the kind of food that would win. Mikey made my kind of food... basic stuff that everyone likes.
A breaded beef cutlet, fried and topped with American style Béchamel. Served with whipped potato and braised green green beans.
In other words a chicken fried steak dinner with mashed taters and green beans
LOL...you forgot the "white pan gravy" (bechamel).
Maybe Mike can get a job at Betty's restaurant. Better bring his earplugs, though.
Know what you mean about not having a favorite this season. I think Jozie was auffed too soon and, had she remained on the show, there was a good chance she would have made it to the finals. It's hard to say, though, because most of the contestants are strong early on, but--as they use up their favorite dishes from before the test, and have to become more creative--they start falling by the side of the road.
What I don't get is why they continue to give Ilan a free pass on his Spanish food obsession. I know he worked in a Spanish restaurant before the show, but even one of the judges said he needed to reach beyond Spanish food.
Right now I think Marcel should win by default because there is no way that Sam, Ilan or Elia should even be allowed to go to Hawaii, let alone actually win. It would be a massive TC endorsement of their assaultive behavior.

I remember Tom C saying something like it was a complete mess. NOt positive though, I'd have to check.
I've seen that episode about 20 times and I don't recall anything of the sort? As I recall he criticized them for doing two things that were "OK" instead of one really good dish.
OK. I take your word for it.

"Exactly! I broke free and told them to get away from me. I went into my room and tried to take a nap, and Cliff follows me in there and starts hurling chocolate bars at me! I then had to go to another room and lock the door..."
^^^Good Lord Cliff was throwing chocolate bars at him after assaulting him? Jesus!
Go Marcel!!!!!!!
LOL...weird thing is, most chefs I know smoke. And yet it kills their taste buds...weird.
That is true. Not a chef, but both Hubby and I quit smoking 1 1/2 yrs ago and things that I used to like...yuck! Now I find that there are a lot of things I never liked before that are pretty darn good!
Me too. Quit 4 years asgo. Taste and Smell have completely rebounded.
Just curious...do you still want one sometimes? I know there are times I am glad there are none in my house or I would be puff, puff, puffin' away!! LOL
If my precious 5 yr old Chase walked into the room and said "Look, I found this on the sidewalk" and was holding a pack of cigarettes in his tiny little hand, I would tackle him as if he was Tom Brady and I was Brian Urlacher.

ROTFLMAOOAOAOA (ROLL ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING MY ASS OFF OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN)
That was great....and I do understand THAT feeling. Thing that has kept me from caving in so far is...that first cigarette after you haven't smoked in a long time, is like smoking pot! Light headed, blury vision, nausia, thirsty. Can't stand the thought. I had neck surgery many years ago. Was in the hospital for about 4 days. On the way home, had Hubby stop at the 7-11 and get...smokes, rolaids, and a diet Pepsi...lol

Didn't you know, Sooner? It's all fair game when you're bucking for the "Magdalene Of The Year" award. I think Marcel's got that one in the bag, but I guess you can't blame someone for trying.
Which Magdalene? The [expletive deleted]/saint one or the Irish washerwoman one?
And why? I'm not getting the joke.
She was absolved of the "[expletive deleted]" status awhile back. Hey, now, wasn't calling anyone a "[expletive deleted]!"
Darlin, that's why I called her a [expletive deleted]/saint. One preceeded the other.
Still trying to figure out what you meant by the "Magdalene of the Year" award.
"Magdalene Of The Year" = "Saint Of The Year"
("Saint" as in one who tries to pass oneself of as such)
Main Entry: 1saint
Pronunciation: 'sAnt, before a name (")sAnt or s&nt
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French seint, saint, from Late Latin sanctus, from Latin, sacred, from past participle of sancire to make sacred -- more at SACRED
1 : one officially recognized especially through canonization as preeminent for holiness
2 a : one of the spirits of the departed in heaven b : ANGEL 1a
3 a : one of God's chosen and usually Christian people b capitalized : a member of any of various Christian bodies; specifically : LATTER-DAY SAINT
4 : one eminent for piety or virtue
5 : an illustrious predecessor
- saintˇdom /'sAnt-d&m/ noun
- saintˇlike /'sAnt-"lIk/ adjective

I think we are dealing with the emotionally/mentally disturbed here Whata? Ilan making a joke about Marcel being a virgin is not really anything normal people would be upset about.
Creating a hostile workplace is.
It also wasn't a joke. It was several comments made in an attempt to denigrate Marcel.
But even if it was a joke, in the workplace sexual jokes simply aren't appropriate. Sure, people still do it, but when the jokes are later deliberated in public, nobody involved comes out looking good.

Lia
ROTFLMAO!!!
What I thought was really cool was that she got "soignee" in the first stanza! Tres clever.
OMG, OMG, OMG, I was so hoping you'd love it, and you do, so thx so much for the approval! Squee!!!!! kthxbi111

========================
I think when you follow their recipe as written you can determine if it is good or not. We have to assume that it was written as it was created. I agree we can not comment on how they prepared it because we do not get to see them from start to finish. I have to say their skill is in question also because we can not see it from start to finish being made. But if we follow their recipe we can determine how it tastes.

I disagree. Take Marcel's dish...the one Tom ranked as the wordt. If the clasms were not luke warm, it could have been entirely different. Preparation can mean everything, esp in desserts....as almost all the chefs have experienced. Recipes are like boxes of paints...turning them into art is all about the how.
