I was completely disgusted and turned off by Bravo airing and not doing anything at all to put a stop to the assault on Marcel. That was completely dumb and the show should be taken off the air. It was completely irresponsible. I don't even care who wins and I will not watch the show anymore. Someone could have been injured and they just stand there and continue to tape it and then have the nerve to put it on the air. That is just sick. I will not watch anymore Bravo shows if Top Chef is not immediatly removed from the network.

Sorry but I have to say how sad this second season. How old is Ilan anyway, 14? I mean the maturity of these chefs was sooo not there. I am not saying first season didn't have it's moments but this season was not all about the food. Just a large group of children loose in the kitchen. Hopefully, producers will try harder to find serious mature chefs for the next season and not settle for just a bunch of cooks.

well, at least you are consistent...and worth a good chuckle.

Marcel is DOPE!

LOL.

No flip-flopping by me.

very true...in fact i'd say you're presidential materuial.

And my first presidential directive would be to turn TC back into a cooking competition.

Im sure they wouldnt have aired it if he was injured...we didnt see it live..
heck..they might even have talked to Marcel about it...I dont know..I actually thought they were gonna shave his head (they sure made it seem that way in promos) now that wouldve been good tv...haha

I've watched all the shows from last season and this season and tonight's show made me come here and check out the website and the board just to post that Marcel is my favorite and has been from the beginning and I feel the only reason the others pick on him is that he is REALLY GOOD and they feel threatened by him.

I wish all of them the best, but I am rooting for Marcel.

Peace.

Ilan should have been given the same treatment as Cliff, while he didn't grab Marcel, he was verbally encouraging and instigating the entire attack. You hear his voice during the whole assault, calling for Sam to shave Marcels Head, over and over trying to make it happen, finally saying in disgust "Is he just holding him for nothing?" I think Ilan is a coward and a bully, letting Cliff use the muscle while he held the camera, unable to contain his excitment over the idea that Marcel was about to be shaved, if only Sam would get with the program. What a weasel Ilan is. Isn't there a law dealing with just this type of encouraging behavior that holds people accountable for promoting hate crimes? Clearly this is a crime of petty hate. I hope Marcel gets to see Sam and Ilan packing, as he ends up in the final two.
aguynamedWayne
Though I haven't checked in that much this year, I just wanted to say that after watching tonights episode maybe the remaining contestants (excluding Marcel) may indeed be good chefs, but anyone who would sit by and allow another person to be assaulted for someone's twisted enjoyment, will never will the title of decent human being.

(If I were Marcel, I would have called 911 before they or the show knew what hit them. Its called a lawsuit)

How embarrassing. Reading through this makes me sad that I watch this show. I love to cook, I love to learn about cooking - this is no longer about either.

Drama Chef maybe, Jackass Chef, oh no, Good TV Chef - that's it.

Yes Cliff was wrong, wow, off the deep end.
Yes Marcel is a douchebag, like "Red" encompasses many colors, Marcel encompasses all aspects of being a douchebag - and good for him, cos he would have gone long ago if he wasn't.

but also,

the producers like good infuriating TV more than real competition,
the judges like their reputations more than any sense of continuity.

This year, it's become another reality show that has nothing to do with reality.

So, taking into account all of what you've just said, who would you have seen stay, and who would you have seen go?

Is it just me, or as each episode progresses I find that I can only bear to watch it only once? When Season 2 of TC premiered, I was watching the early episodes over and over and over again....I just couldn't get enough of them! But then, somewhere around the Thanksgiving/The Raw and The Cooked episodes, I can't bear to watch any of the later episodes more than its initial run. It's almost PAINFUL to watch because of how outrageous things became episode after episode. It seemed like in the beginning it was all about the food, but then it slowly turned into this deranged cheftestant soap drama. After watching tonight's episode, I went ahead and deleted it from my DVR....there is no way I could watch it again!

I can't wait for the season finale! Even more, I can't wait for season 3! I do think Sam will bring this one home and be crowned Top Chef!!

Stay warm guys....it's freezing out there! ;-)

Id be shaking a little if I was Tom...Cliff is HUGE!

And what is this supposed to mean? Chef Tom is no lightweight from what I see. But notwithstanding that, even though Cliff is a jerk and his actions were unjustifiable, he was under the influence of alcohol. While that is no excuse it is a stretch to say that Chef Tom should have been afraid because Cliff is "huge" when there has been no evidence of him having a propensity for physical violence.
edwardnortonfan
There's a fine line between joking and harrassing, and Cliff went too far. This incident crossed the line and I'm glad that the producers actually did something about it this time instead of just letting it slide by because it made for good TV.

That being said, I can understand why MArcel frustrates everyone. He's young and arrogant and he talks like it...but they take it too far. Last season, the chefs got annoyed at each other sometimes and fights did spring up, but when it came down to it they were able to put aside their differences and focus on the food. This season is like watching kids bickering on the playground each week. But I DO think that the final four chefs show great talent and I'm excited to see what happens in the final episodes.

The producers of this show are no better than the retards who taped the girl on Long Island as she was beaten up by three other girls. They then proceeded to put it on the internet. It is no different. It is wrong. There is no excuse for it. Those people are now facing prosecution. Why should the producers of Top Chef not be held accountable?!?

I actually agree, Cliff and the producers, and the cameramen, and the other contestants witnessed and sometimes encouraged an assault.
ldrbmr

Nope. What I'm saying is that the producers finally show footage where Marcel is the instigator.

I've been blaming Marcel the entire season but it seems the footage CLEARLY shows him as the instigator.

I still don't see how Marcel MAKES these people act as childish as they are. Children blame others for their behavior instead of taking responsibility. Marcel has helped others this entire season and yet still been the subject of endless harrassment. Where in this episode did he "instigate" anything? He simply said that he could not help plate Sam's dishes. Ever think that might just be the case? These children on the show this season are as sensitive as 12 year old girls and take everything personally. They should be more like Marcel and let it roll off their backs like professionals do.
woodsbaker
Ilan spends time badmouthing Marcel's food and making fun of the foams and then creates a chocolate ganache filled with chicken liver!!! Unbelievable, and gross. Somehow I don't think that is going to be Russell Stover's favorite new flavor.

It meant if it was ME...Id be scared...and yes, while he had no prior physical violent behavior ...he did tonight...I would have been scared...

Just jumping in to say, I think the crowd borrowed the camera and did their own taping. I don't think any of the Bravo people were around the attempted shaving of Marcel's hair. I think Tom said that either tonight or in the trailer for this episode. Will try to find it.

"Heartfelt and sincere?!" It looked more like an exercise in "oops, I need to cover my ass." The bottom line is that Cliff's actions were literally
CRIMINAL. So, I'm certain that Cliff was trying to mitigate as much tension and ill-will as possible to *avoid litigation.* It's all there on video! A *total* lack of professionalism... Cliff has no place in this competition...good call by Tom and the producers.

I doubt it. Reality show contracts usually state that they will be video'd 24/7. Some friends applied for TC and that was in the contract. Basically you sign all your rights away (not really, as that is against the law, but they do their best to make you feel that way). But will be glad of any hard info you may receive.

Based on toonight's show, it looks like Elia's gone over to the other side. She bonded with the 3 guys and didn't come to Marcel's aid.

Also, there was an article/interview conducted with Marcel where he talked about his friendship with her in the past tense. In the same thought, he talked about his relationship with LeAnn in the present tense. There was a link to this interview on the TWOP board.

I posted earlier saying they would have been charged with being accessories ala Jodie Foster's, The Accused!! Cheering someone on like that is just as bad in the eyes of the law!!

Sam: "I'll scramble the eggs. What are you going to do?"
Cliff: "Beat this shrimp."

Elia: shockoolatte
Ilia: say that again
Elia: shockoolatte
Ilia: Ooh, that's nice. Can I stay in your room?
Elia: Only if you shave your head.
Ilia: I'll shave mine if you shave yours.
Elia: Our heads, you mean?
Ilia: Yeah.
Elia: Ok I'll do it.

Elia to Cliff: "Look, Cliff, we shaved our heads. How about you, oh, wait nevermind."

Elia: "I cant believe I couldnt cut out these stupid little shockoolatte hearts and this French judge is here and I'm so trying to go out with him. Now when we get back to the loft tonight Ilan will be hitting on me all night again. Hey, I know, I'll shave my head. Surely, that will put him off. Oops my bad."

Elia: "Oh gross Cliff kissed me goodbye. Thank God it was on the cheek."

Sam: "No way I'm shaving my head and losing this lovely bun hairdo."

Cliff now joins Otto and Mia in the hall of shame.

What a depressing way for one of the more talented chefs to go. But I was glad to learn that he would have likely been eliminated anyway. At least he has the comfort that "he may have won" had he not pulled this stunt.

Marcel is an annoying twit. We all know various kinds of annoying twits. How we choose to respond to them tells a lot about us not them. If you react the way some people did (Frank, Betty, Cliff) it means you give him more power than any twit deserves. They let beating him become their goal rather than winning the game. I think it was Richard Nixon (of all people) that told his staff as he left the White House, with amazing insight, not to hate because hate will destroy you.

Well no haircut for for MC Foamy was a dissapointment.

On the bright side however the Cliffinator put to rest all Marcel's Hip Hop tough talk. His "street cred" is hovering somewhere between Snow and K-Fed.

I am aware that they sign their lives away, as do the PR cast does also.

I am trying to find the information about them borrowing the camera, I think Tom says it in the trailer when they are sitting at the judges table. He says something like they taped the ....... just can not remember the wording.

Watching this show tonight literally made me nauseous. It was truly sickening to see the contestant's heinous treatment of Marcel- especially seeing no sign of anyone attempting to help him. I truly hope he sues the pants off the group involved (producers/fellow contestants)- that kind of abusive behavior should not be tolerated. I personally think Marcel has been a gentleman throughout this whole thing and has been focused on providing innovative and intelligent solutions to these challenges. He already works for one of the top restauranteurs in the country and I'm sure he will have an exciting future ahead of him- regardless of how this crock of a show is turning out. After tonight I have no interest in spending time watching this show anymore.

Ironic justice would have been if Cliff's dish was the best and he was "kicked to the curb" anyway!! Oh, too bad!!
jlhchef
As a Executive Chef with 15 years experience, I can assure you that Marcel is NOT good at all. His Food is not thought out to the point that it would be well executed in a restaurant. He never thinks of the flavor of the food and then how he would make it better. His Salmon dish tonight was sooooo boring. And what is his thing with Salmon and beets, it is not that great of a combination. If he wins it will be out of luck and not skill. He has lost the real concept of good cooking , which is take a great ingredient and make its great flavors shine and is only interested in making stupid foams.

Well, it will depend on 1) if it is true.

and 2) if true, if Elia had the decency and courage to confront Marcel privately first OR if these are things she has known about for a while, but only now reveal because she has joined the pack.

More Hawaii-Five-O mysteries.....

As usual, Marcel handled himself as well as could be expected...in fact, better than could have been expected. I am always amazed by his ability not to be bitter about the horrendous treatment he receives. What happened to him on tonight's episode was despicable.

Elia never stuck up for Marcel, she is a coward like the rest of the ones who pick on Marcel and birds of a feather...
She is a weak person who should have gone home long ago and would have if Mia hadn't quit to save Elia's butt. Top Chef title will not be hers. How many times has this crybaby said "I quit" or done something really weird??? Like smearing the chocolate all over her face because she couldn't understand how the judges could have liked Cliff's dish in the QF challenge. And now, the whole shaving her head incident and joining the children on the playground of insulting Marcel...how could anyone support her? She needs to pack her knives and go back to being a room service cook.
