Ok I just heard it, it is not Tom who says it, it is Ilan. He says, "We asked to borrow a camera to take with us back to the loft." It was in tonight's episode.
I remember that as well. but still doesn''t answer the question of whether Bravo had video cameras playing as well.
I agree with you, if they were there they should have tried to stop it. Who knows what could happen legally. I just do not know. I am sure there is a clause in their contracts that says they can not sue them being Bravo or Top Chef for anything. If they have something in their about chefs touching each other in an aggressive manner, I am sure they have a clause about not being able to sue.

On the bright side however the Cliffinator put to rest all Marcel's Hip Hop tough talk. His "street cred" is hovering somewhere between Snow and K-Fed.

I wish he did shave his head. It is shaved, actually a buzz cut now and he looks better.
Looked at Chow.com to see if Cliff podcast put out there yet to see what really happened behind the scenes!! Still waiting!! Anyone have any info on that??

And I quote from Tom:
Marcel’s chicken wasn’t great, but he had actually made a stab at chicken confit -- a preparation often used with duck leg, in which the meat is cured in spices and slowly cooked in its own fat. If the chicken confit had worked, it would have been unusual and delicious. Most likely Marcel cooked the wings at a temperature high enough to make them safe, but the faulty execution gave the dish a soft, undercooked texture and appearance. And though the judge’s confit discussion did not make it into the episode, we discussed it and agreed that, like Sam’s unsuccessful watermelon dish, Marcel’s chicken showed a stab at doing something interesting. Also, Marcel was responsible for the vegetable tempura, which all agreed was delicious.
"Most likely Marcel cooked the wings at a temperature high enough to make them safe..." Most Likely? Hmmm sounds like damage control to me. Especially since it was described as Raw.
Who said they were raw?
Was it Raw or Rare? I cant recall but I'm thinking it was one or the other. Either way its an open invitation for Uncle Sal to visit the Colon.
People keep harping on the undercooked chicken like it's a big deal. Doesn't it make sense to assume it must not really have been that big a deal or the judges would have booted him out no matter how good the tempura was? There's very little worse to eat than uncooked poultry (except chocolate ganache stuffed with chicken liver) so, if it had really been that horrible, they would have eliminated him for it without a doubt. Using logic, the results of the judging would indicate that this is a tempest in a teapot that Marcel haters are just flogging to justify their own conceits.

Yes, Marcel had a slam dunk with that dish in terms of flavor, but slam dunks for Marcel's dishes are not consistent and that is simply the point that I'm trying to make. I'm not a Marcel hater by any means, just a TC fan.
But I haven't seen consistency from anyone...Sam is perhaps the most consistent, with the watermelon, blue cheese brulee an exception. Sam, by all rights, should win. He' sjust sucha wanker...and so I vote Marcel by default. I think he'll grow into it.
I could in no way vote for Ilan. as well as he has done..he is truly a toxic personality and would turn any kitchen into a chamber of horrors. He' s a button-pusher, a crazy-maker, as they say in the biz. No profit from such as he.
Elia is also good, but i would never trust a chef who would call it quits mid-service. Got to "make it work!"
If Sam were more mature and showed more leadership, he's be a natural. But he's not a natural, at least not from what we've seen, and certainly not from seeking our votes becase he is "low on cash." I mean, get a job already!

I am bringing Chef Tom's comments about the uncooked chicken. Copy and paste here we go...
“Marcel served raw chicken which is a health hazard … he should have been sent home.”
Marcel’s chicken wasn’t great, but he had actually made a stab at chicken confit -- a preparation often used with duck leg, in which the meat is cured in spices and slowly cooked in its own fat. but also,
the producers like good infuriating TV more than real competition,
the judges like their reputations more than any sense of continuity.
This year, it's become another reality show that has nothing to do with reality.

You know you have to think about it in terms of a TV show and not a cooking competition. Why was Marcel cast. Drama. Why has he seemingly skated through the competition with little scrutiny, considering his skills seems to be just as limited to his scope of cooking as others.

well, I still haven't seen the episode. can't wait. but I am glad to see Cliff is gone. he was kinda mean. very arrogant. though he did seem talented. i liked him better early on. he got worse as he went. I really thought he should have been the one to go home on the restaraunt challenge, but from last season I know that they don't always judge solely on the merit in one competition and as well as he did throughout I am sure they didn't want to send him home for one mistake.
as for Marcel, I don't know about his food. seemed they were trying to make him this season's stephen. but I never had a problem with him or understood why they disliked him so much. from what I have seen which is all episodes so far. I think it might be his voice. but many times I have seen him ask them if they need help and tried to be nice. I like his hair. some of his food seems interesting. but they are all way out of line with him. all of them. except elia. I saw a preview for hawaii where she said he moved her steamer. but he did say there was no heat, so it doesn't seem it was done malicioulsy. ???
I've thought Sam or Ilan would take it from the beginning and Sam sure is hot! but Ilan has began to bother me with the way he treats marcel. to a point of not liking his fine a$$ anymore. that's sad.
all in all this season has dissapointed me. as the judges have said many times it just seemed so many of them weren't into it and many just gave it up! none of the food has been really spectacular and honestly I now find myself STILL watching season 1 for kicks. very dissappointed. didn't think I would watch again after last season's. but here I am. but I am dissappointed. I hope Hawaii is fun.

Thank you for seeing the truth other people are glossing over in the Marcel Fan-Club online. If he isn't foaming everything he touches he's trying to "help" someone else with THEIR dish (so he can throw a monkey wrench SOMEWHERE to make himself advance yet again without any cooking skills).

Can you, in all honesty, really refer to what happened as a "dumb joke?" In what twisted world do you live in where having one guy wake up a different guy (that he outweighs by about 100 pounds) past two o'clock in the morning, and physically hold him down on the floor with his hand on the back of his neck while others laugh and egg on the situation, a joke? That isn't a joke no matter how many times you, or Cliff, or Ilan want to say it is just to try and lessen the impact and somehow excuse the behavior.

First, can we cut down the quoting??
OK. well, that's ONE way to look at it. If they really wanted drama they would have kept Ken and Emily on for the whole season. While there is probably some truth in what you say, I don't think this is purely a dramatic conceit. We disagree. And no doubt we will defend our positions accordingly. I still think Marcel has a form of Asperger's and his "oddness" is grossly misunderstood. You think that's hogwash. We disagree. I think the others are unecessarily cruel and intentionally juvenile and hence lack professionalism. I think Marcel has handled himself masterly. I think he lacks a certain generosity of spirit but he is young and will hopefully develop that part of himself. And i think he is antural with food, but more focussed on what could be than what is...which is a two-edged knife. You think he is a selfish, mediocre talent who pushes other's buttons intentionally. Couldn't disagree more...
We'll never really know.
So let the games continue!

I'm sure this would be a never-ending debate.
AS to Marcel's flavors:
"Marcel’s Wild King Salmon, although presented in what I thought was an unoriginal fashion (not what we expected from our resident Foam King), was prepared just right. The display of heart shaped potatoes may have been trite, but the flavor combination was a crowd pleaser."
How is Ilan's personality "toxic" as compared with Marcel? If this was truely the case why didn't the other chef's pick on him instead of Marcel.

Wow. What an episode.
Something that sticks with me is just how long it seemed like Cliff had Marcel on the floor. I mean, it felt like it just went on forever. I really want to hear from someone at TC how Tom and the producers found out about it. I am almost certain that there must have been some sort of production assistant or someone there other than just the chefs. From what I can tell, Marcel went to bed in the bathroom and didn’t speak to anyone.
You know, Marcel was done wrong. I don’t care how annoying he is. Just like a woman dressed provocatively deserves to be raped? NO.
He handled himself very well, I thought. He could have been a full-on drama queen, but he wasn’t. I think he felt like justice was served. Cold.
I like Marcel, I always have. I guess I just understand the oddballs better than average folks. Most likely because I am an oddball myself.
For a little while, I had lost some faith in Sam, but I like him okay again. I think he is the best chef on the show, and although he might not always be able to keep his cool, he does a better job than most everyone else. He has made some mistakes, but they are in a fishbowl under a microscope, and that has to be exceedingly stressful.
And Elia. Why does everyone think she is so great? Someone else mentioned what a wackstick she is. She has poor stress management skills. The chocolate-smearing, the hair-lopping-off, the wanting just to throw in the towel when things get tough…I am just not impressed. Someone needs to get her to coping training and quick. NOT TC material as far as I am concerned. I don’t dislike her, but she really is lacking in a lot of ways.
I dunno about Ilan. He looks cute with his hair shaved. I will be disappointed if he wins. I guess he is my least favorite. I just think no one stands a chance against Sam. He has been the most consistent of the bunch. And I think he is a good guy.
Oh, one quick comment about the Padma-bashing. I like her better than Joel. Except I SO could not understand what she was saying when she was talking about proteins. I had to rewind. I certainly didn’t know she was married to Rushdie. Interesting.
And that’s all I have to say about that. (Quoting the poor dude from American Idol tonight.)

very true...in fact i'd say you're presidential materuial.
And my first presidential directive would be to turn TC back into a cooking competition.
AAAAAAAAAAAMEN!
Get rid of Pamda also, and you can have my vote! If anything, she should go to the E! channel and do kiss-up interviews at award shows. It's be her "Fort'e" (to swipe a Marcel word).

Uh I have had bad bad hospital emergency room quality miscooked chicken before and I can tell you first hand its a rather large deal.
That's exactly my point. It is such a big deal that if the chicken really had been that undercooked, they would have kicked him out, therefore the chicken couldn't have been so undercooked as to have been inedible or have caused concern for the safety of the food. When they said "rare" or "raw", I think it was just hyperbole for undercooked and they didn't mean literally either rare or raw.

I am bringing Chef Tom's comments about the uncooked chicken. Copy and paste here we go...
“Marcel served raw chicken which is a health hazard … he should have been sent home.”

Swiss my point is that even Tom can't say for certain that it was cooked safely.
Open question for everyone. If someone served you a plate of chicken and said it was the going to be very tasty and it was "Most Likey" cooked safely would you eat it?

I wonder if restaurant owners, managers and executive chefs call this season Who Not To Hire.
I say cut the cord on all of them and award the $100,000 to Tiffany from last season. She may be bitchy but at least she's not infantile.
Hmmm! You must have forgotten the back story on Tiffany!! Besides her saying she wasn't there to make friends, it was thought she purposely tried to sabotage her competition by turning a stove temp up or down on them!! I can believe it!! She already proved herself to be a liar several times!! Boo Hoo Tiff; you see you never see her anywhere due to her abrasive personality!! LeAnn, Dave, and even Stephen are showcased after being finalist!! She's comparable to Project Runway's Santino from Season 2!! Total jerk, thinking very highly of himself. and so sure of himself even when he crapped out with a challenge!! Delusion reigned with both of them!! lol!!

I'm sure this has already been said about a hundred times by now, but since I don't have time to catch up on the boards, I'll say it anyway. If they aren't supposed to judge them based on their past performances, then how can Padma justify her reason to keep Marcel? She said that she wants to see him Hawaii to see what he'll cook. If they aren't supposed to be judged on their past, then they shouldn't get to stay based on curiosity of the future.
*****Disclaimer***** This has nothing to do with Marcel (so all of you viscious Marcel lovers can back off! ;-) I would think that's an unfair reason to keep someone regardless of who it is.

You know you have to think about it in terms of a TV show and not a cooking competition. Why was Marcel cast. Drama. Why has he seemingly skated through the competition with little scrutiny, considering his skills seems to be just as limited to his scope of cooking as others.
Marcel is a Gold mine for Producers. Emily was very similar. Ken from last season. Steven as well. This whole season has been edited to portray Marcel as a victim leading up to today's episode. And I'm sure that he will roll to victory with a sympathy vote over a dumb joke.
Uh it started out as a joke and it was obviously a dumb thing to do. Its pretty simple actually.

I think you could be on to something with the Asperger's thought. Aspies are hard to understand unless you know one really well and sorta "get" them. I have a few Aspie friends, and my son has been dx'ed with slight autism. I KNOW my son just irritates his classmates to NO END without meaning to at all. And my son isn't arrogant, he's just really unaware of how other people feel. He is completely unable to put himself in someone else's shoes. It just totally escapes him.
Marcel just comes off as very genuine to me. I don't think anything is an act with him. He is who he is. Yes, he can be very annoying. But he can also brush things off fairly easily. I am sure this isn't his first experience with his peers not liking him. I think he has adjusted well. But then again, that's sort of an Aspie trait too: not caring about what other people think of them. Not because they are egotistical, but just because it doesn't occur to them to care.
Anyway, Holster, good observation IMO.

Uh, no, it didn't start out as a joke. It was never a joke. There is nothing funny about shaving off someone's hair without their consent even if you don't have to wrestle them down on the floor to do it. This was just an extension of their ongoing cruel mob brutality and giving it a label of something that it clearly never was doesn't make it so. Holster is right...you just love the stretch.

Nope. What I'm saying is that the producers finally show footage where Marcel is the instigator.
I've been blaming Marcel the entire season but it seems the footage CLEARLY shows him as the instigator.
I still don't see how Marcel MAKES these people act as childish as they are. Children blame others for their behavior instead of taking responsibility. Marcel has helped others this entire season and yet still been the subject of endless harrassment. Where in this episode did he "instigate" anything? He simply said that he could not help plate Sam's dishes. Ever think that might just be the case? These children on the show this season are as sensitive as 12 year old girls and take everything personally. They should be more like Marcel and let it roll off their backs like professionals do.
"Marcel" and "Professional" don't belong said in the same statement. If anything, he's the most UN-PROFESSIONAL of all those contestants, still in the running or Eliminated. Heck, even Michael had more "professionalism" than Marcel (but Michael was too much of a "Good Ol' Boy", and there comes a time when you HAVE to take things seriously, especially in a contest like this one).
Just Marcel's comment about "not caring if Sam does the course He was given the right to chose for" because he (Marcel) was "just going to do whatever he wanted anyway, and let the cards fall where they will". THAT showed obvious lack of respect for the show, it's production staff, and the contest as a whole. If he can [expletive deleted] about Betty using Sugar instead of Nutrasweet (an all out problem when you're cooking a menu for children that might be ADHD or Diabetics), what makes his crap not stinky?
