And I quote from Tom:
Marcel’s chicken wasn’t great, but he had actually made a stab at chicken confit -- a preparation often used with duck leg, in which the meat is cured in spices and slowly cooked in its own fat. If the chicken confit had worked, it would have been unusual and delicious. Most likely Marcel cooked the wings at a temperature high enough to make them safe, but the faulty execution gave the dish a soft, undercooked texture and appearance. And though the judge’s confit discussion did not make it into the episode, we discussed it and agreed that, like Sam’s unsuccessful watermelon dish, Marcel’s chicken showed a stab at doing something interesting. Also, Marcel was responsible for the vegetable tempura, which all agreed was delicious.
"Most likely Marcel cooked the wings at a temperature high enough to make them safe..." Most Likely? Hmmm sounds like damage control to me. Especially since it was described as Raw.
Who said they were raw?
At least one of the judges said "raw".

Was it Raw or Rare? I cant recall but I'm thinking it was one or the other. Either way its an open invitation for Uncle Sal to visit the Colon.
At the JT, at least one of the judges said raw.
As far as chicken is concerned, isn't raw and rare the same thing in regards to getting someone sick?

As a Executive Chef with 15 years experience, I can assure you that Marcel is NOT good at all. His Food is not thought out to the point that it would be well executed in a restaurant. He never thinks of the flavor of the food and then how he would make it better. His Salmon dish tonight was sooooo boring. And what is his thing with Salmon and beets, it is not that great of a combination. If he wins it will be out of luck and not skill. He has lost the real concept of good cooking , which is take a great ingredient and make its great flavors shine and is only interested in making stupid foams.

Still stretching.
He had already served it to a number of people before the judges got theirs. Rememer Padma whining about the wait time? There's also no gurantee that all the chicken was cooked in one batch so some might have been cooked correctly.

just watched the rerun wanted to see the show twice before i came up with a response. its sad but i don't think anyone deserves to win, padma was 100% correct that no one was showing the qualities that they look for in a Top Chef. theres so much unprofessionalism and childish antics it makes me sick to my stomach. how do some of these people work in an enviroment when others are dependent on them to make desisions? and if you've ever worked in the restaurant business its a make or break mentality every single day, sorry elia but you'd be the first to break.
cliff deserved to get kicked off for his actions but at the very least he SEEMED sincere when he apologized, and it didn't SEEM like there was any hard feeling between him and Marcel. and wtf sam? the situation felt oddly uncomfortable for both parties? UMMM NO!!! maybe it felt uncomfortable the next day when you got called out on it, or by uncomfortable you mean "funny" cause i saw you giggling like a school girl while marcel pleaded for your help. ASS.
Ilan i'd imagine you had a equally as stupid comment about the incident, what was it again? oh right we were drunk. interrupt your peers when they're talking to you more please. ugh.
elia whats the problem? you need to get your head on straight(hopefully its a little lighter after losing all that hair) girl a MUCH MUCH better chef(imo) gave up her right to be in the competition so you could continue. but you give up the second something doesn't go the way you expected it? they enjoyed your dish hun..
this season is a train wreck but who can look away honestly? does this show even have producers on location or any kind of intermediator trying to keep the peace? chef tom said two words about the entire clif-marcel situation and doesn't feel like he needs to mediate. yeah tom shouldn't have to baby sit, but we've been at this breaking point for awhile now and even a few words of "knock off the funny stuff and focus on your cooking" could go a long way.
thankfully i can fully expect the reunion show to be full of even more drama and cheap shots at marcel that they didn't have time to broadcast the first time around. oh wait, this is a cooking contest? *sigh*

Bravo Padma!!
"It wasn’t in fun; they weren’t all chummy with Marcel. I bet he was very scared being woken up like that from a sound sleep and dragged onto the carpet. In a previous blog, I said that Marcel was their Piggy in some "Lord of the Flies" scenario, and unfortunately it turns out that I was right. How dare Cliff lay his hands on Marcel? And nevermind human decency -- how stupid can you be? Leaving aside the fact that you’re on national television, or that potential investors, employers, and millions of the general viewing public are watching, why would you jeopardize your chance at $100, 000 dollars after you’ve spent weeks and weeks slaving your heart out with little sleep, away from all your family and friends?
Elia, Ilan, and Sam were not innocent in it either. None of them said to stop. In fact, Ilan eggs Cliff on so boisterously off camera and Sam sits there laughing on the couch. I guess Elia was holding the camera? I felt awful when I heard and even worse when I saw the footage. I always thought that our show was better than many reality shows because it was about people trying to be the best at their craft, and that that dedication was compelling to watch, I saw no one trying to be better that night. What a shame."
I hadn't read those yet and I sort of just posted the same thing about the STOP...So why are Sam and Ilan even still in this?????? Hhmmmm.....Why did Gail seem so chummy with Cliff tonight????
Maybe Gail hates Macel too?

So bizarre.
In Cliff's video performance last night with Andy Cohen (where'd they get that guy?) and Gail, he goes on and on about how Marcel isn't the bad guy he is portrayed to be and it was all just little individual spats brought on by the intensity and that he considers Marcel to be his little brother and that Marcel is a phenomenal chef with phenomenal knowledge and no one ganged up on him....HUH???
Then Gail goes on and on about how great a chef Marcel is and how wonderful and innovative his dishes are etc etc...
Either Cliff's lying, which doesn't say much for him, or the "everyone hates Marcel" camp is being misguided by the edits.
So bizarre.

To all the "Boys will be Boys" apologist, I feel sorry for you!! It's fine if some Neanderthal wants to accept an assault like that, but most don't care to be awakened in the middle of the night and wrestled to the floor and restrained like that!! So very sad!! Almost reminds me of that video attack back east I heard about recently; some love triangle retaliation with some sadistic girls kicking the H e l l out of one of their peers!!
I find it interesting how so many people can watch the same show and get 2 totally different views of it.
I find it equally interesting on how if I cannot see the same thing and now I am a Neandrathal being "felt sorry" for. No one was hurt and Cliff was disqualified. I know I made it perfectly clear that Cliff's actions were not right. His intentions were not to hurt him. I just don't see why a federal case should be made of it.
Someone posted assault can be as simple as spitting at someone, well in the same wouldn't calling someone a neandrathal be considered defamation of character?
You don't see what the big deal is? Let me break it down a bit for you.
Marcel is very aware that he's not part of the boy's club that has emerged. He's been openly dissed not only in front of the judges, but guests and has to continue to live in a hostile environment. Put yourself in his shoes (as hard as that may be to do) and imagine being brutally awakened by a hulking figure about twice your size and all you've been bombarded with is the fact that those around you want you gone. Exactly how would you react? The guys left are a bunch of F***S!
WORD!!! Holy shite, I thought Cliff was going to unzip his pants & go to town on poor Marcel. Marcel conducted himself with true grace!!!
You mean the grace he showed when he punched the cameraman as he ran out of the room? The camerman should sue for assult and battery.

Elia looks a little strange bald.
Ilan ..(I hate saying this)...looks HAWT bald!!!
Sam-good for redeeming yourself by helping Marcel-too bad you chickened out of the head shaving-but we all forgive ya.
Looks like more drama in Hawaii! LOL
And this time, it looks like the drama is caused by Marcel.
[NOD NOD]
But it's not just this episode. He's been doing this since day 1. It's just that it took driving Cliff to violence to show the world what a horror Marcel REALLY IS.
[sigh]

"Bye, Cliff. It would've been cool seeing you at the last show against Sam once all was said and done".

Nope, but it's easy enough to find out what the word means in any library that carries ENGLISH-JAPANESE Grammars (or if you just read the book SHOGUN by James Clavell). ; )

just watched the rerun wanted to see the show twice before i came up with a response. its sad but i don't think anyone deserves to win, padma was 100% correct that no one was showing the qualities that they look for in a Top Chef. theres so much unprofessionalism and childish antics it makes me sick to my stomach. how do some of these people work in an enviroment when others are dependent on them to make desisions? and if you've ever worked in the restaurant business its a make or break mentality every single day, sorry elia but you'd be the first to break.
cliff deserved to get kicked off for his actions but at the very least he SEEMED sincere when he apologized, and it didn't SEEM like there was any hard feeling between him and Marcel. and wtf sam? the situation felt oddly uncomfortable for both parties? UMMM NO!!! maybe it felt uncomfortable the next day when you got called out on it, or by uncomfortable you mean "funny" cause i saw you giggling like a school girl while marcel pleaded for your help.
*sigh*
and JUSTMEAOD is there a reason why you type in all caps with spaces inbetween every sentence? all caps is yelling and sometimes your posts break the borders and makes all the following posts spill out into the advertisments on the side. sometimes you even have an entire page dedicated to your posts because you quote so many single posts in a row. i really wish there was an ignore feature..
BRAVO!!!!!! [No Pun Intended, i assure you]
WELL SAID, ma'am!
I'm sure PLENTY of people agree with the Mia/Elia situation. I think if Mia were where she was SUPPOSED TO BE after that show, we'd have a really INCREDIBLE race between her and Sam (all the way, if not only on the last show)!
I'm sorry, Elia. You just don't have what it takes to be a chef, let alone own a restaurant. It takes way too many DO IT *NOW*, *THIS* *WAY* OR ELSE choices on a near 24/7/365 basis in order to be a chef. The entire world ISN'T based on Seafood, and according to the judges (and the patrons!) you can't even make a burger worth squat (what was it they wrote on the comment cards? "Tastes like meatloaf"? Ugh!). : '(
What the other woman wrote earlier is a perfect choice. As you said, NONE of them "deserve" the win. If you HAVE to pick one of them, it'll be the way people elect their Presidents nower days: Not for who you think is the best choice, but who you dislike the least. And that's a really sad state of affairs (on ALL fronts).
Basing it JUST on the show here, i really would've wanted Mia to be in the top 3 along with Sam and Cliff (that is, before i saw how easily he can be infuriated. Imagine in a professional setting! Customer sends back a steak because it's not done right, so Cliff throws it at him in frustration). : '(
Process of elimination. Sam takes it, but i REALLY REALLY pray that the next season they REMOVE THESE JUDGES. It'd be a GREAT idea if they brought in new judges each week entirely, not just *1* guest judge. Make it a truly random pick also. 1 from a 5-star, 1 from a 2-star, 1 from a cruise line (now THOSE guys have to be CREATIVE with a limited supply of resources on-board!), et al.
No way you could see people "play favorites" then (Padma), and by using different "levels" of chef as judges you allow for a wider-range of "pallets" in the judging.

I hear ya, ma'am. Sorry to see that this really IS the way the world thinks when people are alone in their dark rooms trying to seem more than they truly are offline to online situations. Once anonymous, the class-clowns become the "Biker-types".
The only problem is that their "bikes" are Shwinns. ; >
Don't let it get to you. You have as much of a right to post here as any of them, and at whatever times you wish.

My friends said the contracts they were given did have a no-sue clause. But you know lawyers...there's no such thing! LOL.
I give Marcel credit for brushing it off.
=====================
Having worked for lawyers when I was an undergrad I know some would probably try to circumvent the contract's clause. lol
I woke up thinking about this! I am really kind of disturbed by the whole episode. First off, I've worked for my share of lawyers (admin) and there really is no legal way to circumvent or contractually disavow illegal behaviour. Marcel was assaulted, his perpertrators also filmed his assault, and yelled out taunts of encouragement. And likewise the producers of the show, could have been held libel for creating/manufacturing an unsafe work/living environment (it could be legally argued that the producers as well as the other contestants besides Cliff, were complicit in the assault). Obviously Marcel wants to win the competion through his cooking skills, because if he had wanted to, he could have called the police, filed a charge and had them arrested, or he could have just got a good lawyer and sued Cliff, the other contestants, The producers of the show, and the BRAVO network (and though Im not sure about the legality of it, but I think profiting from showing an assault is morally bankrupt).

Just jumping in to say, I think the crowd borrowed the camera and did their own taping. I don't think any of the Bravo people were around the attempted shaving of Marcel's hair. I think Tom said that either tonight or in the trailer for this episode. Will try to find it.
THING IS SWISS
WHEN MARCEL WAS DOWNED BY CLIFF
CLIFF WAS CALLING OUT
MOST OF THE REPLIES SOUNDED FAR OFF
SO I'M PRETTY SURE IT WAS THE CAMERA PEEPS

It's a freakin' reality show. Even if they did have their own camera (the TC's) there were absolutely other people there, had to be. It's just more dramatic to use the camera that the TCs used. Reality TV is just as much real as Pamela Anderson's boobs.

Interesting.
Did the producers set up the chefs for an incident?
- They gave the chefs a camera AND booze (remember how Mikey had to use contest money for beer so it doesn't seem to be extra booze lying aorund)
- How did the cameraman happen to be in the hallway WITH A CAMERA as Marcel came out?
- If the cameraman was alerted my Marcel's screams, why didn't he run in to help? Cliff held him for a long time
It seems Andy is the loser who coordinated tonight's events - from the drunken acts of the chefs to the live call-in show.
Before that skank Padma starts attcking the chefs, she might want to pick on that loser Andy first.

and I tried to post this thought last night, but I was too tired to make much sense. So here is my 2nd attempt.
The 4 people who assaulted Marcel (Cliff assaulted, as the others happily egged him on) may indeed one day call themselves good chefs. But after seeing them assault and degrade another person for their own twisted enjoyment; they will never be able to call themselves decent human beings.

What do you call the producers who help set up the incident and did nothing to stop it?

I usually give someone til their 30 before those calls....sins of youth and all...plus the childhood of Americans runs about that long. So Frank and Betty, yes; The brat pack...esp Ilan the Terrible and Elia the Quitter...can still atone. I wonder if that's why Cliff grew his hair and moustache..a disguise??

Well, I guess you are a bit more forgiving than I am. For me, if you are over 18, you are old enough to face the consequences of your actions. In any other setting those guys would have gotten arrested. And I have to say, if I were a restaurant owner, I would never want to hire such moronic, immature, and down right mean spirited people to work for me, regardless of thier talent level. Hell I don't even want to eat the food that people like that make.
