If I was Marcel, I would have pulled a "Richard Hatch" faster than the speed of light. (it's purported that on the 1st season of Survivor, Richard Hatch caught the producers of the show sneaking food to the contestants they wanted to win. Instead of turning them in for fraud, Hatch struck a deal with them, and Hatch was declared the winner). Marcel, should have told the show to declare him the winner of the competion then and there, and if they didn't, he should have immediately picked up the phone and dialed 911, filed an assault charge against Cliff, and conspiracy and complicity to commit assault charges, against the other three idiots. Plus file a lawsuit against the producers of the show and the BRAVO network for manufacturing and instigating as well as contributing to an unsafe work and living environment.
Believe me, when cops start showing up and arresting people, Everyone's outlook changes.
Who's to say he hasn't lol.

I agree on all your points and well said. Recently I posted a comment in defense to Marcel and I got bashed for sticking up for the underdog. Now that the other members have crossed that line with Marcel, does it really matter who wins top Chef? These chefs by no means compare to level of skill of Harold or Lee Anne from last season.

Everyone is getting on the men about this episode of abuse, but what about Elia? All through this competition, she has failed to step up. Sure, she is nice to everyone, but does she ever do the right thing? She should have never let Mia leave the show on her account. Instead, she just stood there rubbing the bridge of her nose like she always does when there is a any sort of confrontation. Did she ever tell the others to lay off Marcel? Which is worse....a sin of commission or omission?

Who said they were raw?
At least one of the judges said "raw".
And let me reiterate my question because the people who were defending the chicken with Tom's Blog have yet to answer it.
If someone gave you a piece of chicken and told you it was very tasty and was "most likey" (Tom's words not mine) cooked safely would you eat it?
GAWD WAJ.Aren't you the one who kept making fun of Bettygate and killing kids with extra sugar????
The chix was rare they said...Even it was raw..one litle bite from one litle tiny piece of chix will not KILL you!!!
Didn't someone serve undercooked chix last year???
I seem to remember the backwards Mohwak guy saying it was medium rare..Then someone else did say raw...but maybe that was only one piece or maybe...gasp..they embellished
or said raw for emphasis.
I am SURE if they felt it was a piece of death meat he woulda' been sent home.
LOL I explained my bias against undercooked chicken. The hospital trip was not fun but was definetly colorful. I can give details if anyone likes, but its probably better to do so after lunch.
Good point about Mr. Mohawk. I think that guy would say anything to trash someone.

To all the "Boys will be Boys" apologist, I feel sorry for you!! It's fine if some Neanderthal wants to accept an assault like that, but most don't care to be awakened in the middle of the night and wrestled to the floor and restrained like that!! So very sad!! Almost reminds me of that video attack back east I heard about recently; some love triangle retaliation with some sadistic girls kicking the H e l l out of one of their peers!!
I find it interesting how so many people can watch the same show and get 2 totally different views of it.
I find it equally interesting on how if I cannot see the same thing and now I am a Neandrathal being "felt sorry" for. No one was hurt and Cliff was disqualified. I know I made it perfectly clear that Cliff's actions were not right. His intentions were not to hurt him. I just don't see why a federal case should be made of it.
Someone posted assault can be as simple as spitting at someone, well in the same wouldn't calling someone a neandrathal be considered defamation of character?
Thank you very much. Its really shocking how some people can get so obsessive about people on a reality show that two sets of rules apply in reguards to not only behavior but posters commenting on the action.
Well if you are not the one being assaulted in your sleep, it's easy to see it as petty, or just juvenile fun. But if you are unlucky enough to be the person who was assaulted you may have a very different viewpoint.
I actually have been on the reciveing end of several pranks/jokes, a couple much worse than Marcel's treatment. The thought of returing the "favor" was the only thing that I was concerend with and calling the police or sueing never crossed my mind.

Simply put: I'm out until Project Runway 4 !
Sorry but I fell in love w/ Bravo programming when Project Runway first aired and have enjoyed many of their shows as guilty pleasures, especially Top Chef 1, but after last night Bravo has officially hit my seedy level, ala Jerry Springer, Jackass and most reality shows offered on Fox.
An overwhelming number of the contestants on TC2 are immature, arrogant, petty, nasty and vile. And as if being the most arrogant Uncle Tom wasn't enough Cliff treats us to watch his violent streak, gee thanks Cliff...thanks bunches.
I realize the drama that the cast of TC2 has displayed is an attraction for most so I know my stance means nothing to the powers that be; however, between this show and the other drivel Bravo has offered of late, I HAVE to leave. I'd rather turn my TV off than to continue to watch immature behavior, manufactured drama, constant sniping, bitching and violence. The only thing I can say at this point is:
Thank you Bravo for exposing me to this season's chefs and letting me know where they work. I entertain regularly on business across the country and it is always good to know where not to go.

I have lurked on here for quite some time now, never feeling the need to post anything. However I feel compelled concerning this episode.
To those of you who feel that way too big a deal is being made about a "frat" house prank, I think it is important to consider the circumstances.
WE knew the circumstances, at first Marcel did not.
Marcel was sound asleep, he doesn't know about the little party/game that is going on . He has no clue, he is sound asleep when he is drug off the couch and flipped onto his stomach by someone who has him pinned to the floor. I wonder how many terrifying seconds went by before he knew WHO was on top of him and WHAT was going on.
Some believe it's ok becuase it was Marcel (you don't like him, you think he's a....). It is this mentality among the contestants that has fed the petiness of this entire season and the culmination of last night's show.
They picked on an unconscious person.
The whole thing was sickening, was painful to watch, and while I used to love to watch Top Chef reruns this is one episode I never want to see again.

I was appalled at Cliff's behavior. I never would've thought he would stoop down to the level of a high schooler. I thought he was more mature than that. I was actually was roting for him but after last night, I was disgusted.
I wonder what life is like for him once he returned home and back to work. I'm sure his co-workers, family & friends were hopeful but after witnessing his act on TV knowing fully that he signed a contract not to physically harm another contestant.....Agh! I was outraged. He totally jepordized his chances simply because he was caught up in the moment of being stupid.
They all really need to get over hating Marcel. Marcel is Marcel. I'm not saying he's innocent but you would think the others would be more adult about the situation and just ignore him and cook. Oh well, I'm sure Betty saluted Cliff's act.

Ilan should have been given the same treatment as Cliff, while he didn't grab Marcel, he was verbally encouraging and instigating the entire attack. You hear his voice during the whole assault, calling for Sam to shave Marcels Head, over and over trying to make it happen, finally saying in disgust "Is he just holding him for nothing?" I think Ilan is a coward and a bully, letting Cliff use the muscle while he held the camera, unable to contain his excitment over the idea that Marcel was about to be shaved, if only Sam would get with the program. What a weasel Ilan is. Isn't there a law dealing with just this type of encouraging behavior that holds people accountable for promoting hate crimes? Clearly this is a crime of petty hate. I hope Marcel gets to see Sam and Ilan packing, as he ends up in the final two.
The difference is Ilan was talking (instigating), Cliff had actually gotten physical, which goes a much longer way. Ilan could've stood there all night yelling for Cliff to "get him" or whatever it was he was saying, the producers wouldn't do a darn thing about it. I agree, Ilan is cowardly. I just wished Cliff would've just walked off, although I doubt he would've been in the finals. The judges weren't impressed at all about his dish.

Hi everyone! This is my first post. I have been reading the boards throughout the season. When I read papillion's post, I had to reply.
First of all, what happened to Marcel was FAR from watching someone being raped! Cliff wrestling Marcel in no way shape or form compares to the violence of a rape! Get real!! And in my opinion, Cliff AND Marcel should have gone home. Marcel knocked home sweet hell out of whoever had the camera, does that not count as breaking the rules? Marcel should've gone home last week when he served those undercooked chicken wings. Chicken has to reach a inside temp of 180 degrees to be safe to eat, and when Gail saw that the wings were undercooked she quit eating them.
The whole shaving Marcel's head went wrong. Had it been me doing it, (I come from a family that has always played a joke on someone while they're asleep.) I would have never woke Marcel up. I would've just walked over to him with the clippers and buzzed him, done! Anyone here ever watch "Jackass"? They do crazy things to each other while they're asleep!
Who do I think will win this season?? Sam will be Top Chef. I picked him from the first show, just as I did Harold last season.
I'm ready for any and all backlash from Vampire Boy's fans.

Not to mention the complete humiliation of having it aired over national TV over & over. I know I've said this before, but major kudos to Marcel for the way he handled himself.
And the more I think about it, Ilan should have totally gotten the ass-boot off the show too. Because while Sam didn't really do much in the way of stopping this, at least he did recognize that it was wrong (as evidenced by his wimpy request for Cliff to "let go.") Ilan on the other hand just kept on giggling like a little girl & was begging the others to join in. What kind of a human being doesn't recognize when a joke has gone too far? Then on top of that, he kept on filming!! As if he was going to go home & whack-off to the film on a nightly basis. I am thoroughly disgusted by his childish antics. Pity too, because he used to be my fav.

I can't really answer that question unless the cooks returned the camera broken and producers watched the tape.
I look forward to the answer. Breath not bated though.
In the producers BLOG posted today, she makes it quite clear that Marcel did not go to the producers. Someone from the show arrived at the loft the next morning to find Elia and Ilan without hair and were absolutely furious with them. So they put the show on hold for one more day rather than wrapping that night (hence why Tom arrives on day 2 to everyone just waking up - of course it could have been afternoon and they were napping since they had nothing else to do). When another producer was doing regular interviews with Marcel at the end it somehow came up. They then pressed Marcel for details. It was only after that they watched the tape. Otherwise, they probably would not have found out for some time when they went to edit the tape. If you haven't read her blog, its very interesting to see the timeline of all this and what truly happened.
Cudos to Marcel. I would not have been as forgiving as he was. Something tells me we only saw part of the tap as is evident when they cut from Marcel on the floor to him standing trying to break Cliff's hold. I hope that his torment was no longer than we saw. If it was, than that makes me even more upset because than it would really speak volumes as to the nature of the other competitors.
I also feel that Ilan at the very least should have been kicked off. He clearly was egging Cliff on. Shame on you Ilan. Alcohol or not, Cliff and Ilan and even Sam should be held accountable for their deplorable actions
And I am truly disappointed in my favorite chef Sam. I can't believe he did not even try to stop it when it obviously went to far. He didn't have to physically get involved (although it wouldn't have hurt as Marcel obviously was no match for Cliff) But he could have at least had the guts to tell cliff to stop. I am sorely disappointed.
I was routing for Sam to win...but I don't know any more.
Sam did tell CLiff to stop.
Yup Bottom I said that about 20 pages back..lol Sam to Cliff to stop it had gone to far and was not funny anymore..that was when Cliff let go and Marcel took off. I might be wrong but I think the camera that was knocked out of the way was being operated by Ilan cause he filmed that whole incident while taunting.

First of all, these chefs have been living with each other 24 hours a day, and most of what goes on we never see. So let's give the chefs the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their feelings toward Marcel. With everyone feeling the same way, clearly there is a valid reason.
That said, it in no way excuses what Cliff did, and I felt bad for everyone involved. It went too far and they all know that.
My favorite is still Ilan and while I doubt he'll win the honor of Top Chef, I am still pulling for him. He is the most interesting chef and seems to have the most potential. And by the way, he looked totally HOT with his shaved head. He has personality (something Sam does not), and he does have a sensitive, sweet side (that neither Marcel or Elia have). Traits that would seem to make a Top Chef.
Sam is my second favorite, and my guess is he'll be the winner.

I can't remember the name of the episode, but it was the one at the fire station--Elia told Marcel that she would always stand up for him. But, last night when Cliff was holding him down and llan called for her, she said "I can't right now!" She may not have wanted to be a part of shaving his head, but she also didn't want to be a part of standing up for him either.

Sizzler, Fred Goldman did not go "around the law". It is part of that law that if you lose in criminal court you can absolutely sue in civil court (where that butcher Simpson was found responsible for the two murders.)
Why did Padma call Elia an idiot? For the attack on Marcel or for shaving her head? I think Elia looks great with a shaved head (I did that once myself -- sure made showering faster!)
As for Marcel, he should have been booted out when he tried to make Betty lose when she was cooking (when she had nothing to do with the fryer cooling down.)

I have read through all the posts and now watched the episode 3 times. IMO Cliff went to far by breaking the rules but I am also reading through the posts and now we are comparing this to rape? Now unless Cliff dropped his pants, and went into Brokeback Mountain mode, I would not have immediately thought all that... and I am a woman. He was not out to intentionally hurt him, he wasn't planning to beat up him. What he did was not right but comparing to a gang rape? Sorry I don't see where they compare. I think Frank was more of violent threat than Cliff.
Now before everyone jumps on my back - I am not condoning what any of them- and IMO ALL of them were involved, did but I am questioning the severity of how some people looked at it.
Yes it was extremely stupid and went to far but I look at all of them like they are living in a frat house.. ..A very drunken frat house. I remember in college, rushing fraternities and sororities, the hazing and other stuff that happened,... vaseline in the hair? Nair in the shampoo? Putting underwear in the freezer on top of fish so your undies totally smell fishy? Shaving the eyebrows? Hand in cold water to make you pee in bed? All stupid pranks, all not at all very nice. But filing assault charges for any of that? Suing all parties involved? Wow.
From some of the posts I have read, some may think frying in the electric chair may not be enough of a fitting punishment for Cliff and Bravo.
Exactly. These "Marcel should file assault charges" posts are pretty over the top. Same with the lawsuits. Yes lets jam up the legal system with more petty lawsuits.
Thinking like this pretty much the the same misguided logic that argues that tag and dodgeball should be banned from schools and that childrens sports shouldn't have winners or losers.
If it was up to these people in 20 years we will all have to walk around incased in sanitized bubble wrap watching episodes of the hit game show Tie Tie or Draw, where everybody wins!!!
I agree with both of these post.
Yes, Cliff went too far. He proved, for the second season in a row, why Top Chef should not have a booze budget.
I respect Cliff for manning up and taking his punishment. I respect him for apologizing to Marcel and I greatly admire that Marcel took the apology. Much respect for that.
Am I now a Marcel fan and want him to win?
Nope.

At least one of the judges said "raw".
I admit they said RAW, but Chef Tom wrote in his blog that
the chicken was cooked it had the consistency of raw. I have
had this happen to me when cooking chicken wings. I am not
a top chef, however, if you don't seal the chicken it can be
very slimy. Chicken Wings are the most likely pieces of
chicken that can go slimy.

Yeah, and you also think he is hot because he giggles like a girl and makes fun of people. I'm certain that people make fun of you, but you don't get it, because you're dumb.
Isn't it funny, the people who bash these chefs for being mean, and making fun of people, are themselves the most inconsiderate, mean, hateful, loathsome people who make fun of others for expressing an opinion. You have no right to judge others as you yourself have demonstrated that you are beneath all of them as a human being.
Talk about the show, not about other posters. Grow Up.

As for Marcel, he should have been booted out when he tried to make Betty lose when she was cooking (when she had nothing to do with the fryer cooling down.)
Last time I checked, just about the whole world agreed that betty ( that [expletive deleted] ) had to go, and we all rejoiced when her sorry ass got axed. Maybe her nasty attitude reminds you of yourself. Right not, like it or not. Marcel, MC foamy or what other name you feel like calling him is the fan's favorite. Why, because he's not the bully like the others. See what happens when you act the bully, you get caught and sent home crying to momma, or you get your arse kicked like the taliban.
Dont mind me, I'm just trying to stir up some heated discussions

Just jumping in here on page 67 but wanna say that it's interesting that Marcel literally got the best of Cliff in every way (or worse maybe). He outcooked him and was the very reason he got kicked off the show. I have gotten SO SICK of these contestants talking about how many times they've wanted to hit or punch Marcel. Cliff is a large man with huge arms and Marcel is like a 98 pound weakling, woken up from SLEEP for God's sake and assaulted. He seems like he's so used to being picked on but finds a way to rise above with his talents and focus. Cliff helped make Marcel a favorite around my house and you're right, Betty disgusted me with all of her picking on a young man young enough to be her child. Immature, nasty bullying all with that passive aggressive cheesy grin. YUK.

Hey JMe, jumping in here because there is no way in HELL I am going to read over 300 posts!! SO, here goes my opinion.
First, for some reason, was feeling very let-down after this episode. Partly because I felt that Ilan should have been reprimanded in some way for his antics behind the camera..."come on Sam, get the clippers, Cliff has him down..." etc. He is such a scary little thing! To have that much hate for a person, WOW!!! Definately need the psycho music playing right about now. AND, Sam should have been called out on this too. He just sat there laughing, and even though he SAID he was uncomfortable with what was going on, he still did NOTHING. You can't tell me that they ALL didn't realize what was happening was wrong. Elia, not sure where she was, but heard her in the back ground saying something like "I can't do that" (not a direct quote) ALL PARTIES SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUNISHED FOR THIS!!!
Now, the food. What ever gave Ilan the idea that 'CHICKEN LIVER BON BONS' was a good idea!! Holy crap, that was just GROSS! The other QF dishes were ok, nothing special in my eyes, but way better than Ilan's disaster!
I know Cliff was probably going home anyway, but because of his assinine behavior, he did not leave with dignity. I still think he should have left instead of Mike, even though Tom said i was because he contributed the least to the EC.
Someone said that Cliff knocked Marcel's tray of salmon on the floor. Did he? Not sure, but he did say he saw it falling and it didn't look like he did anything to stop it. However, Marcel thought quickly and saved his dish by reducing the portion size. Nice going Marcel!
Elia says she took all of the offered cooking courses at some fancy schmancy school, yet she didn't know that cream needed to be COLD to whip?!!!!!! Good heavens girl, common sense should have told you that. She does not have what it takes to be TC, as someone pointed out..."I quit", "I give up" not TC comments.
As for the TRUE Top Chef???? Sam MAY be a better chef than Marcel, but in the face of all the ridicule and harassment that Marcel took, he showed a maturity that the others only dream of posessing. Sam showed his colors by sitting by and not stopping the Cliff/Marcel?Ilan incident, knowing full well that it was out of control. SO, I do hope Marcel wins. Because, TC means to be able to keep control of yourself in trying times, and NONE of the others have proven that they are capable of that.
Long, yes, but will now step off my soap box, and wait for the disagreements/agreements to come pouring in.
GEE SIZ
THANKS

Did you ever think that maybe there is a reason everyone hates Marcel? It's prolly not because they fear his foams either. My guess is that he's a major [expletive deleted] and deserves most if not all of what he gets from the others.
This is the simplest explaination, which we know according to Occam's razor, tends to be the correct one.

He may be annoying and a "major [expletive deleted]" to live/compete with. He doesn't deserve to be dragged out of a dead sleep and assaulted. If he were female getting on everyone's nerves, would "she" deserve to be drug out of bed and held down by the largest man in the room while being laughed at? No, he did not deserve that, plain and simple.

LOL good question. It was Chicken Lo Mein. Most of the chicken was bite sized and I never bothered to cut into it or check it till we looked at the left overs after we got back from El Hospital. And trust me if my head was up my ass at the time it was quickly and violently extracated by Uncle Sal.
Oh silly.....That wasn't raw chix..That was raw cat.

ATTENTION FUTURE GIRLFRIENDS OF CLIFF WATCH OUT FOR POSSIBLE ABUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i have never been so scared to watch an "attack" on TV. it was so strange, uncontrollable, odd, scary to see this BIG MAN wrestled this thin stick figure like he did without so much of a yell or groan from Cliff. it was like watching a wrestling match with the mute button on. i loved cliff, thought he was totally hot, would have loved to meet him in NYC and probably have a steamy hot one-night-stand BUT i would NEVER even consider dating this guy for fear of being abused. what a way to piss away your rep and career Cliff.
sorry, just my thoughts
p.s. Ellia was gorgeous with the bald head as was Ilan, Sam is a punk who always plays it safe and coward and Count Dracula should have been off'd when he served raw chicken a few episodes ago.

Liddy - I see where you are coming from. I only watched the episode onces so my opinions are based on my initial reactions. I recall clearly seeing Cliff and Sam in the video and hearing Ilan. I do not recall hearing Elia or seeing her in the shots. Therefore, I did not include her in my comments. However, if Elia did see what was going on and did not take any action, than she too is just as guilty in the deplorable actions against Marcel as Sam or Ilan would be in my book.

Nope.
brillke
Well said and good point about the booze.. unfortunately in the food service industry booze and food go hand in hand( please note the requirement for the wine pairings in the compitition). Cliff screwed up ,he knew he screwed up and I would bet he probably knew he was gone. He handled it well and Marcell was gracious in his goodbye. I do feel that Marcell has displayed a lot maturity in this episode. Unlike the firehall show, this time when his salmon got dumped he just delt with it instead of having a hissy fit. Maybe he is growing up a bit through these weeks of episodes but I do not find him as irritateing now as I used too. Please note.. his salmon dish did not have any foam on it so he can be taught.
As for requests for police ,lawyers , floggings etc. ... come on ...it is a TV show . To quote Rodney King... "can't we all just get along?"
