I hate to sound like one of those old crones who say stuff like "in my day the music was so much better...", but, the last season of Top Chef was sooooooooooooo much better than this years crop of contestants. Im sorry, but Harold had it going on, all over these chumps! Tiffany may have been an assertive [expletive deleted], but she never tried to beat anyone down to win.

When exactly did TopChef turn into the Jerry Springer Show?

Wow..i realize why i don't post the night-of an episode anymore.

Quite the circus, huh??
Main tent, freak shows, thrill rides, clowns, barkers, games, bearded ladies, and deeeelicious funnel cakes!

limp, soggy, flaccid funnel cakes sold by a bald love-sick-for-Marcel wannabe transvestite can-only-cook-from-the-Casa Mona-menu multiple-watch-wearing freak faux hipster turdball named EVILan.

LOL. No Ilan funky cakes here...only prime circus funnel cakes...garownteed to clog a mother-in-law's arteries!

I want to dip Elia's bald head in oil and rub it all over my body.
MRHOMECHEF
Just saw the picture with marcel leaving the room. Elia is there on the floor and has her hair. That means the head shaving scene was done by them after they realized they were in Big trouble. They are laughing it off but really trying to cover their ass. Sam backs out so he can claim he wasnt part of it.... Sad.. Elai got sucked in by her new roommate Ilan who was out to remove marcels only friend...

Sam: You are that Guy

Ilan: Why didnt you try and Hold Marcel yourself?

Elia: WOW Very disappointed in you. I was pulling for you but lost repsect for you.. If you were ever his friend that epsiode shows what a friend you were

Cliff: You got talked into it by Ilan and Sam and now your gone..

Marcel: I wasnt a fan of yours but repsect how you fought back and have taken the high road.. Producers blog said you didnt even tell them what happenned. That part of the show looked like a kid being put into a prison cell the first night. For Cliff to saw he was joking I dont think so. He was smashing you into the ground and than lifting you off the ground by your neck.... Hope you win just for principle..

Good luck to the other 4 chefs because in the end no-one will remember you for anything except what happenned that night.

I think Sam is the smartest at playing the mind games.. He got rid of Cliff (Competition), Knows Elia will fold, Ilan will screw up... But you just pissed off everyone who wathes the show..

What if you had all woke up with your heads on a table and marcel sitting there cleaning his knives when Tom walked in

Liddy - I see where you are coming from. I only watched the episode onces so my opinions are based on my initial reactions. I recall clearly seeing Cliff and Sam in the video and hearing Ilan. I do not recall hearing Elia or seeing her in the shots. Therefore, I did not include her in my comments. However, if Elia did see what was going on and did not take any action, than she too is just as guilty in the deplorable actions against Marcel as Sam or Ilan would be in my book.

According to Tom C, she was not in the room, but she knew what they were doing and could hear what was going on....and did nothing.

What did you expect her to do? We all know Elia is tougher than Marcel but she's no match for Cliff.

Has nothing to do with physical strength, but everything to do with moral strength. A firm, "STOP IT" was all that was needed.

Tom C was absolutely spot on when he wrote:
The whole thing brought to mind that famous quote, "All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing."

I'll include women in that remark.

Sam was drunk, that was the excuse, Sam keeps telling everyone every challenge that he is a Diabetic. Well if he's a diabetic he's not supposed to be drinking.

Just a quick note or two..first, the judges said, "Cliff would probably been sent home, his dish sucked", then in the next sentence, "Well, now that Cliff is gone, who should we send home?" WTF! It sounded like 4 peeps were going to Hawaii, and when Cliff was told to pack it up and vamoose, that left 4 peeps!. Why would there be ANY discussion of who was going home? If Cliff had not attacted Marcel, and would have made it to the judges table, he would (so they say) been asked to pack his knives and go. That said, then they had ALWAYS planned for 4 peeps in Hawaii. Make sense???

Jumping in to say I am now actively rooting for Marcel (even though I believe Sam will probably win it).

Why? Not because everyone picks on him. Not because Cliff throttled him in his sleep. Because he made me lmao in last night's episode. When Padma said to the chefs, "Didn't anyone tell Cliff to stop last night?" Marcel said with a wry smile, "I did." That was funny! For him to have a good attitude and a decent sense of humor after what was done to him shows a good deal of character. Plus he was very gracious in accepting Cliff's apology. Plus he didn't run crying to the producers when he was attacked (and yes, I consider it an attack). Bravo Marcel!

When the show started I was rooting for Cliff. I can't believe he messed up this chance of a lifetime by this stupid prank. True, he probably would have been asked to leave this episode anyway, but at least he would have gone out remembered as a worthy contestant rather than a bully. Yick.

OHG-ROTFLMAO I forgot about that, when Padma asked if anyone asked him to stop...(gawd, now I can't stop giggling...) It was PRICELESS and I can't believe I forgot about it. He deserves an award for that!!

FYI Just saw the end of the epi again and it was Tom who asked if anyone asked Cliff to stop. Marcel said "Me" and Padma started laughing, etc

It was another priceless Marcel moment.

Doesn't say much that Sam, Ilan and Elia never apologized and in fact Sam and Ilan are still publicly dissing Marcel in public. But as common wisdom holds, you reveal more about you when you attack another than the person you are attacking. Marcel's professional silence is deafening.

Oh so true! I was actually very proud of Marcel. This will go down in Top Chef history as probably one of the most insane episodes ever! What the hell was Elia thinking?!?!?!?!?!?!? She has this gorgeous head of hair and she shaves it all off?!?!!?!?!?! Ilan, who gives a damn, he doesn't look any better or worse.

Sam was really pissy and bitchy to Marcel, when Marcel was not rude or anything, I mean hello, Marcel was in the middle of something, he's not going to drop everything and help out someone right then and there, especially someone who has been nothing but rude and nasty to him. He may very well have helped him out later on. At least Sam grew up (finally) and helped out Marcel with plating.

Cliff, oh boy where to start. His food apparently sucked and he would have gone home anyway, but he is so damn lucky that Marcel isn't filing assault and battery charges and his ass isn't in jail! I will say that I was impressed that Cliff apologized to Marcel and said nice things about him in his exit video. I was also impressed that Marcel didn't go running to the producers right after it happened like a little kid crying to mommy or something. He just found a place to go cool off. That is what a mature person does, you don't make the situation worse, and I'm proud that Marcel did not do that.

NOW THAT'S ONE OF THE FUNNIEST THINGS I'VE READ TONIGHT

TAKE CARE OVER THERE

ALOHA

Ahaha...Cliff did appear to be aroused.

Second thought, Ilan appeared to be the most aroused.... giggling like a little [expletive deleted] school girl and running around filming this [censored] so he could spank his monkey later on to this now immortalized piece of male on male erotica. Ilan is clearly obsessed with Marcel... just check out his myspace.

And Elia... what a [expletive deleted]!!! I can't believe she would even think of letting this happen to someone she once considered her friend. Then it must have been like pouring salt into the wound for Marcel to watch her as she laughed about it. What a sleaze bucket. And to think that a couple of weeks ago her & Ilan were my favs. *shudders at my lack of perception & misjudgement of character*

I think she was acting as the on-screen representative of the production itself...very appropriate and nothing but good ettiquite. And even though I am not her biggest fan...she knows what she likes food-wise and shouldn't there be someone who just says "It's good." or "It sucks."

I hate them all apart from Padma & Marcel.

Maybe this is upthread but apparently the current timing batted about in the forums at TWOP is that They got drunk, then tried to shave marcel's head while assaulting him, then shaved their own heads. At TWOP, they have stills of Elia laughing so hard she's doubled over with hair on her head!!! If the link doesn't work- its on page 41 of Ep 2-11 Under TC General Gabbery

What also puzzles me is why they filmed it themselves? The only reasonable explanation is that they have no moral compass and no conscience. If they had done it secretly, I would at least be relieved to know that they had a conscience...that they knew it was wrong and required stealth, but to film it tells me that they felt entitled to assault Marcel, as if it was their god-given right.

That's perhaps the scariest thing of all. The entitlement to evil.

No wonder they remain unapologetic.

You cannot blame the booze, it was their decision to drink it! Also, I don't give a rat's whisker that it was supposed to be a "prank" NOBODY has the right to touch another human being like that! You especially cannot blame the booze because they asked for the video camera before. Especially with the photos showing they pulled the prank before they shaved their heads, then this wasn't any spur of the moment.

Sorry, that should be spelled 'gangsta.' Seriously, he puts his ethnicity as 'black' and his major as cooking and his minor as 'b*tches.'

OMG....I can't stop laughing. Almost makes me like the poopy-head.

me too...if he was 14.

Why did Padma feel the need to say sorry? Did she do something wrong?

In addition to knowing nothing about food, she also knows nothing about ettiquite.

I believe she was saying she was sorry that happened to him. That's actually quite gracious and not a breach of etiquette at all.

Funny quotes from TWOP:

"In other words, I irrationally predict Elia will win, Andy Cohen will star in Maniac Cop 4: Badge of Triangle, and Marcel will rise up toward the sunset on a cloud of foam and come back just in time for season two of that white rapper show on VH1."

Episode 12: Three dipshits and a misfit.

only 88 pages and it's been almost 24 hours?
I expected to find 300 pages of posts in the first day.

Guess that proves all the preview hype was exactly that.
Pure Hype. Not one hair on the troll doll was cut. Elia didn't whack off her hair because of Marcel. She's the one that had the bright idea to play with hair clippers and got the whole nasty mess going.

really, people. anyone that's been in Fraternities or the military has seen much worse hazing. We had a guy in the barracks that didn't like to bathe. You could smell him from 10 feet away. One night he got a special bath with brillo pads and a high pressure hose. Afterwards, he found a new respect for daily bathing.

Cliff is a big guy. He could have easily hurt Marcel, but was careful not to. He never punched him. Never squeezed too hard. Nothing was injured except Marcels over inflated ego.

Kicking Cliff off the show was complete [censored].

Have you guys read Chef Tom's blog about this EP? If not, here is a taste of what he had to say:

"I could see how a goofy drunken idea ("Wouldn't it be funny if we shaved our heads,") escalated into a stupid, thoughtless one ("Wouldn't it be funny if we shaved Marcel's head") and from there into an act of ugly stupidity: ("Let's hold Marcel down and shave his head.") It was like watching an instructional video in bad group dynamics -- four apparently decent individuals (three if you buy Elia's argument that she was clueless), fueled by alcohol and subconscious anger, became one collective disaster gleefully terrorizing the designated odd-man-out.

In a flash I understood how frat pranks can morph into ugly acts of hazing, or how a rowdy bachelor party can become the scene of a crime. The sight of Sam yukking it up or Ilan yelling, "Get him! Get him!" from behind the camera was just as disturbing as the sight of Cliff tackling a stunned and terrified Marcel on the floor. And I'm not willing to hold Elia blameless just because she wasn't in the room -- I know she heard the others entreating her to join them, so she must have heard Marcel calling out for help. The whole thing brought to mind that famous quote, "All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing." Any one of them could have spoken up and said, "This isn't cool, guys. Knock it off."

But they didn't, so as far as I was concerned they were all to blame and I was ready to send the lot of them home and let Marcel win by default."

The only disturbing thing is that on the show,Tom almost apologizes to Cliff for giving him the boot. As if it was all about the contract, not that it was all about assault and battery. Another testosterone "wink-wink."

Well, Tom was definitely bothered by Cliff, Sam, Ilan, and Elia's behavior...that's for sure. Here is the last paragraph from Chef Tom's blog:

"I won't pretend I'm not disappointed by the behavior I witnessed in tonight's episode. I lost a lot of respect for Cliff, Ilan, Sam and Elia after what they did (or didn't do.) Not as cooks, necessarily, but as people -- and thereby as chefs. Chef means "chief" in French, and “chief” implies someone who leads -- not by bullying or even popularity, but by example."
