Given what happened during the episode I thought the poll was in entirely poor taste.

I totally agree, I thought it was gratuitous and smarmy.
Kristlkrost
Yeah but why Marcel Swiss. He didn't do anything to get disqualified...Did he?

In my humble opinion, Marcel has probably annoyed them throughout the episodes, if his did it without malice so be it, but if he did it knowingly then he too should be ousted. If he was the only one left after the others were removed, I feel that would not be a victory in any way shape or form. It would be hallow to say the least. I really can not see Marcel wanting that type of win, he does not seem to be that type. I feel he would want to win the competition in a cooking situation. That is why basically I said all should be ousted.

Marcel to me has not reached the maturity level required to be a top chef. He may have many of the cooking skills, but he has not shown me he can lead a group of people in a kitchen. I know that is just my opinion but that is how I see it.

Oh I agree..he isn't ready and not many are after what we just saw..And most of the Bravo peeps agree.....I just meant disqualifed....I don't think you can get disqualifed for being annoying........lol

If that was the case.
I would have disqualified Mikey along time ago.

Annoying is subjective.
Blatantly breaking the rules is not is all I meant.

Tom wanted to send them all home except Marcel for a reason. It had to be pretty bad for him to want to do that.

As always...IMHO!

this is to no one...I just hit the reply button.

I don't understand....Tom says he doesn't want crap to go out on the plates....if it isn't good you don't serve it. Yet...then gets all bent out of shape when Elia's choc heart isn't there. Is it me? Or is he sort of speaking out of both sides of his mouth. I guess I feel the same way about Elia doing the dessert....he wants them to get out of their comfort zone, but yet when it's not spectacular...it's like...well why did she do that. I dunno...

I am probably incorrect, but I think he was more upset at the fact the heart was advertized on the menu. Had she just said chocolate "something" he probably would not have even mentioned it. When you say something on the menu, like Chocolate Heart, most customers do not take kindly to it not being there.

C'mon Swiss, this seems trivial. What exactly have they complained about regarding Marcel??? He's arrogant, a know-it-all, bothers people about leaving refrigerator doors open, mentions ethical issues, talks like a surfer, talks like a gangsta, etc etc

And you seriously think this kind of inconsequential personality quirkiness is enough to get him booted off???

There wouldn't be a kitchen left operating in America.

I just don't get this demonizing "being annoying." It's not illegal, it's not a sin, it's not intenntional, it's a personality peculiarity.

And compared to the violent and intentional acts he has endured, his issues have the weightiness of a gnat.

It's a freakin' reality show. Even if they did have their own camera (the TC's) there were absolutely other people there, had to be. It's just more dramatic to use the camera that the TCs used. Reality TV is just as much real as Pamela Anderson's boobs.

Interesting.

Did the producers set up the chefs for an incident?

- They gave the chefs a camera AND booze (remember how Mikey had to use contest money for beer so it doesn't seem to be extra booze lying aorund)

- How did the cameraman happen to be in the hallway WITH A CAMERA as Marcel came out?

- If the cameraman was alerted my Marcel's screams, why didn't he run in to help? Cliff held him for a long time

It seems Andy is the loser who coordinated tonight's events - from the drunken acts of the chefs to the live call-in show.

Before that skank Padma starts attcking the chefs, she might want to pick on that loser Andy first.

(Firstly, Good evening, all)

I know it's replaying later tonight, but someone mentioned SEEING Elia in the footage as Marcel was going into the bathroom. Now, if Ilan was yelling from the other room, and if Cliff and Marcel were on-camera, and if Sam were sitting away from all the going-ons, WHO WAS FILMING IT ALL OTHER THAN THE BRAVO CAMERA CREWS THEMSELVES?!

I have to watch it again to be sure of what the woman said, but she SWORE she saw Elia on-camera also, so that would mean Bravo not only KNEW what was going on AS it was going on, but was trying to "create controversy" to sell the final'e. They've already cut a few shows out of the schedule as it is (there was a scheduled "Reunion" show listed at TV.COM along with a few others. I kept the html if anyone wants to see it).

Hmmmmmmmmmm....... Veeeeery Interesting............

The 4 people who assaulted Marcel (Cliff assaulted, as the others happily egged him on) may indeed one day call themselves good chefs. But after seeing them assault and degrade another person for their own twisted enjoyment; they will never be able to call themselves decent human beings.

I expected to find 300 pages of posts in the first day.

Guess that proves all the preview hype was exactly that.
Pure Hype. Not one hair on the troll doll was cut. Elia didn't whack off her hair because of Marcel. She's the one that had the bright idea to play with hair clippers and got the whole nasty mess going.

really, people. anyone that's been in Fraternities or the military has seen much worse hazing. We had a guy in the barracks that didn't like to bathe. You could smell him from 10 feet away. One night he got a special bath with brillo pads and a high pressure hose. Afterwards, he found a new respect for daily bathing.

Cliff is a big guy. He could have easily hurt Marcel, but was careful not to. He never punched him. Never squeezed too hard. Nothing was injured except Marcels over inflated ego.

Kicking Cliff off the show was complete [censored].

S-puppet

Two problems with your excuses for the gang's attack on Marcel:

1) "Blaming the victim" is never ethical.
2) You are comparing apples and oranges: what is the "norm" for someone in the military is not the "norm" for someone who is interacting with supposed top chefs.

And the comment about Cliff could have hurt Marcel--two problems with that:
1) He did hurt Marcel: physically, Marcel received bruises (according to Tom C.) and rugburns (according to Marcel).
2) We're somehow supposed to feel better about Cliff because he didn't hurt Marcel as much as he could have?
daverocks
yeah, and the really sad thing is, as mean as he was last year, he was hot, but that mohawk was just nasty! I knew I recognized the terrible attitude but I couldn't actually place him!

What do you call the producers who help set up the incident and did nothing to stop it?

"Skunks"?

"Corporate Stooges"?

"SEARS-Hounds"?

And the biggie: CRIMINALS. You know, there IS a law that states the person HOSTING AN EVENT WHERE ALCOHOL IS BEING SERVED, *IS* responsible for the goings-on BECAUSE of said alcohol i believe (someone said they were an attorney or worked for one here recently. Can you post if this is accurate? Thanks).

I saw that too. Why couldn't he just say, "I'd like to take the second course?" What a poopy-head.

LOL..Yeah that and the whole cigar..I swear Sam is one shrewd hottie...He played that kid like a fiddle..I don't even think Sam likes Ilan ..He had a plan to win and that included an alliance like Survivor...I think it's becoming more apparent as time goes on..He got pretty mad at his boys in the restaurant challenge..over some bacon????....And Ilan is like So sorry Sam!!!.....Ilan was his willing flunkie.

This is all so Shakespearerean

It was like Ilan was being submissive to Sam's authority. I think, unfortunately, that the final two will be Sam and Marcel. I look forward to Ilan leaving...what a schmuck! Elia, I do believe has some serious mental issues. Plus, the christian thing,as the saying goes, "if you are going to talk the talk, you better walk the walk" Her behavior during this episode shows that the most important thing to her was her new buddies, not what was right. Marcel could use some new supporters, that is for sure, because she only supported him to his face, not behind his back.

It's obvious that Elia never asked herself before the assault, "What would Jesus do?"
lem0n
For the some they might think it is unfair to expect her to represent Christians. So let's just say...Elia didn't even ask "what would a decent human being do?"

Is anyone suprised Sam won? I would think Ilan hated him a lot more.

I don't know...with all of Ilan's sexual comments to Marcel, I think Ilan has a an unrequited love-hate thing going on.

They should have put Betty on the list and I'm sure she would have "won" the Marcel-hater poll. I think she will be the only one to continue to hate Marcel long after the show is over.

Sam acted incredibly childish during the whole episode, especially when he whined "Marcel isn't helping me so I'm not going to help him." Idiot. Marcel said he just didn't have time to help people that went before him. But Marcel did offer to help Sam at the deadly sins dinner without Sam even asking him to.

Ilan...I don't know. Does he hate Marcel or not? In the previous episode he said he was giving homage to Marcel with his foam attempt. Since an homage is a sign of respect...I wonder if he even knew what that word meant. He pronounced it completely wrong so I guess it's not impossible.
daverocks
uhm...in real life he probably wouldn't put himself in a situation where people hated him and wanted to bully him and vice versa. grown ups remove themselves from such situations before doing something like this. people who have put themselves in this situation for money and fame should certainly have more resolve and if not, should probably have gone to the production crew and said they were afraid they'd lose it and needed to be separated from him. not to mention they were stupid enough to film it? the one thing I can say is once cliff had had his fun and realized the shave wasn't going to happen, it did look like he let go of Marcel pretty easily. that is the ONE thing I can say.

I just stated how I felt about it, does not necessarily mean it is correct. I think I said that Marcel probably would not want to win in that way. I feel it would be a hollow victory. I think Marcel loves competition and therefore would not like that type of a win. I in no way was justifying the actions of the others, the group was really childish in my opinion. If Marcel made disparaging remarks with malice, he helped in causing the situation. You may consider it trivial but I don't. I in no way justify the groups actions. Had I been Tom I probably would have taken the group out behind the barn with my riding crop in hand, with the thought, if you act like a child you will be treated like a child. (I in no way condone physical violence. I just made a statement about the barn to make a point._

As I said before I really do not think Marcel would want a hallow victory and that would be a victory where all the others were kicked off the show.

I think they all behaved badly all thru the episodes in one way or another. Just my opinion, trivial or not.

I agree about the hollow victory...I don't think Marcel would have liked to win by default at all and probably would not have wanted them booted ..,.just as he brushed off Ilan's unprofessional attempt to discredit him with the Sin crowd...so too he wants to win by cooking a fuking soigne meal...and I hope he does just that in Hawaii.

About the maliciousness, that was just a suggestion not really fact based or something I can support with an example. It could be or it could not be. As for Cliff saying there was no malice involved on Marcel's part, I wonder if I believe anything Cliff says after the scuffle. I am sure you are correct that Marcel spoke without malice, I just questioned it. In fact I wonder who can we believe out of this cast of characters.

To tell you the truth..Cliff's actions weren't near as bad to me as the rest of them..Cliff did it and was sorry.

The others are not even remorseful.

Actually, on the episode version showed today (as I've said before, I consider the first showing of an episode to be the beta version because often the episode is re-edited subsequently) both Ilan and Sam expressed remorse the next day.

What I can't stomach from Sam is his holier-than-thou "It was an uncomfortable experience for everyone involved."

Really? How was it uncomfortable for Sam the Instigator? The pussy who can't even do his own dirty-work? Sam came through the Marcel assault with getting Cliff to do the manhandling, Ilan to do the filming, and Elia to cheer them on in their pre-assault dissing of Marcel.

I really appreciated Tom C. nailing Sam by asking him, "You've run a kitchen. Is this how you ran it?"

And yet there are still posters who say that Sam has "leadership skills."

The entire situation is just sad. I think Sam had the ability to show real leadership throughout the entire season. He definitely has presence and I think most of the contestants would have followed his lead. He should have just treated Marcel like an irritating little brother and let it slide.

Let's not forget this is realty TV. The producers definitely could have diffused the situation by setting some stricter ground rules, but drama is what keeps us watching. The food could taste like cardboard for all we know.

You could also see the goodwill that Sam had garnered from his colleagues all season long in action. Ilan and Cliff worked diligently on Sam’s plates as if they were their own. That kind of teamwork is admirable, and should always be the case in a professional kitchen.

Even though she is right... I seriously doubt she actually has any idea of how a professional kitchen really works. Elia was smart to take Sam's advice about the chocolate. She was loosing it when the heart shapes didn't work and he kept his cool and told her how to fix it.

From Tom C (EW interview)

Sam, Ilan, and Cliff have said that Marcel is much more annoying than he's being portrayed. Do you think his hazing has been warranted?

TC": No, no, no, no, no. No hazing is warranted. None. There's no way, there's absolutely no way. If you don't like the guy, just say, ''We don't like you,'' and don't talk to him. More annoying than he is on TV? C'mon. These are adults, they aren't children. Take responsibility for your actions. I don't buy that.

and

Of all the contestants, whose restaurant would you invest in?

TC: Oh, that's a great question! I don't think any in this group. I don't think any of them show any kind of leadership skills. It's not to say that every cook has to — some of them scream, yell, and get away with it. But I don't see the kind of leadership qualities that I would invest in out of any of these guys right now at this stage of their career — and that can change. When Stephen from the first season saw himself on TV he came back and said, ''Wow, I didn't know I was that arrogant.'' So a lot can change. But as far as investing, I'd have a hard time doing that.

Couldn't agree more with both responses. I'm amazed they award
anyone with Top Chef.

I've worked the fryer at lots of places (though never at Wendy's) and I'm not the least bit offended

I can understand people pulling for Marcel beacuse he's an underdog... hell that's natural. I was pulling for Mikey personally. But that's no reason to pretend that Marcel can cook because he can't. Mike had absolutely zero in the flair department... but I tried rolling some corn on the cob in parm and it's really freakin GOOD!

I guess if I had cooked it in an immersion circulator it would have been better according to Marcel? That's BS... boiling stuff in plastic doesn't add any flavor to it.

I was amazed at how much her hair had grown back when they showed the previews for the next show! How long of a period was there between epi 11 & the 1st finale epi?

Hiya Maui....I think it could be months right???...Like on PR.

Let's see they shot in the summer.
Didn't film Hawaii till Oct.???

I'm going to bed ......Yawn....I've got a bit of a fluish thing going...Good night TC'ers.
This was one hell of a show!

I have no idea what the filming schedule was, but I'll take your word for it!

I hope you get better!

Wow..i realize why i don't post the night-of an episode anymore.

I hear ya, ma'am. Sorry to see that this really IS the way the world thinks when people are alone in their dark rooms trying to seem more than they truly are offline to online situations. Once anonymous, the class-clowns become the "Biker-types".

The only problem is that their "bikes" are Shwinns. ; >

Don't let it get to you. You have as much of a right to post here as any of them, and at whatever times you wish.

KINJIRU

HMMMMMMMMM

INTERESTING

BUT SHWINN ACTUALLY PUTS OUT A REALLY GOOD BIKE

TOP OF THE LINE AROUND 2500 BUT THEN PROB OUT OF YOUR RANGE

AND THE OLD KRATES

WELL THERE VERY COLLECTABLE NOW

ANYWHERE BETWEEN 2 TO 900 DOLLARS

NOT BAD FOR A BIKE THAT ORIGINALLY SOLD FOR 60 BUCKS

THEN AGAIN STILL OUT OF YOUR RANGE

GO AHEAD KIN

THRILL US MORE

END OF LINE

*TOP OF LINE*

ONCE AGAIN, THE COMEDY ASPECT GOES RIGHT OVER IT'S HEAD. REMINDS ME OF A GUY I USED TO KNOW THAT TRIED TO FOLLOW US INTO PRE-MED. HE WOUND UP SELLING SNEAKERS BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HAVE THE GRADES (NOR THE IQ).

God Bless you! I hope to god you have better luck than I did. For me for the most part I stick to the dark meat cooked all the way through and usually avoid eating chicken out most of the time.

Prolly just as well...

Kinda hard to get their little legs apart anyways

OK now that's really FUNNY

That said, he didn't deserve what Cliff did. I understand how jokes like that can get out of hand, but it was way over the top and they did the right thing by sending him home. Sam couldn't have controlled this no matter how hard he would have tried.

It wasn't Sam's responsibility to control it. Cliff is an adult (or at least is of age to be one... lol) and should be (and WAS) held accountable for his actions.

Quote:

At least Cliff accepted responsibility for what he did and apologized to Marcel & everyone.

Yes... and it did seem like he was sincere.

Ahh Every time I try to go to bed I see one more...lol

Sam should have said STOP!!!
Elia should have said STOP!!
Ilan should have said STOP!!!

JMHO!

Good night ohmy.gif))))

Agreed. It wouldn't have hurt any of them to open their mouths and tell Cliff to knock it off. My point was that its not Sam's job to "control" any of the other cheftestants. I'm sure he wasn't brought on as the resident babysitter.

If this were not a TV Show and just any real life, male dominated setting they would have beat the hell out of FoamBoy a long time ago.

Real Life, TV Show - It matters not. Their actions would be equally wrong in either situation.

I work in conflict resolution and one thing is constant - there will always be people you encounter in life that you do not get along with (actually its usually because they emulate a quality you do not like in yourself so you act more violently to it - but I won't go into all that). In the end, you have to learn how to deal with those people - either by addressing the issue or changing how you react to it.

You can't change others. You can only change yourself and how you respond to them!

Right or wrong it's just the way things are. Plop Marcel down on a construction crew and let him run around pissing everyone off for a couple of days and see what happens to him. They tend to have their own means of "conflict resolution" in such settings.

Very true, i'm sad to say. Without the law and rules, there will always be a means to "correct errors and injustices". Some of them peaceful (thank God), and others more "exacting". "Majority Rules" isn't pretty when you aren't in the majority.

As for the "You can't change others. You can only change yourself and how you respond to them!" comment: BRAVO! Well said! Easier to ignore the dimwitted, but that only makes the person smart in how to adapt to a troublesome situation. It DOESN'T make them a Top Chef (or any kind of chef for that matter).

Sizzler, Fred Goldman did not go "around the law". It is part of that law that if you lose in criminal court you can absolutely sue in civil court (where that butcher Simpson was found responsible for the two murders.)

Why did Padma call Elia an idiot? For the attack on Marcel or for shaving her head? I think Elia looks great with a shaved head (I did that once myself -- sure made showering faster!)

As for Marcel, he should have been booted out when he tried to make Betty lose when she was cooking (when she had nothing to do with the fryer cooling down.)

Marcel's response to Cheater Betty's own hateful comments previously to him can in no way reach the level of what he has endured from the TC bully-gang.

Tom C in his blog said that he wanted to send everyone home but Marcel and have Marcel win by default, but the producers overruled him. That's too bad because none of the bully-gang deserve to go to Hawaii. Indeed, I am surprised that any of them have found a job.

Now THAT would have been a crushing MISTAKE. But it DOES seem like it fits into Marcel's way of winning: Do it all by DEFAULT. Can't win a challenge? Then ruin someone else's chance so you advance by default and someone ELSE goes home. If they "passed" him because of this the show wouldn't be Top Chef, it'd be Top Kiss-up (and i hate to say it, but it seems like Tom C is following suit with that frame of mind also. By "passing" Marcel through, it gives HIM good "clout" (if you can call it that) in the restaurant world in the eyes of Marcel's "boss"). A very opportunistic situation on all fronts.

Ugh.

Did you all see Ilan with his two fingers out behind Marcel to Sam as he wanted the second course...Such a baby.

SO glad someone alse saw that. More high school behavior.
So laughable and so pathetic.

Very true.
