Elia said it best and she didn't even realize it.
Elia said, "Everyone kept getting mad at Marcel but me. I
didn't get upset because he was never much of a threat to
me."
Yeah, She just betrayed and mocked him. Must be a new Xtian virtue.
Aww no need for religious cheap shots.
That was a very clean shot.
Ah no it wasn't. Making religiously insensitive comments is never a clean shots. Its just sad.
Wasn't insensitive at all.. if someone publicly paints herself as a saint and then acts otherwise, they open themselves up to criticism. And I did. Has nothing to do with Xtianty at all, only with someone who wears it as a costume.
I think using an X to spell it says it all.

It's not a cumulative contest. And Samm just didn't bring it last night. He did not answer the challenge...Hawaiian cuisine with their personal stamp. Tom C said Sam did not put a personal stamp on it the way Marcel and ilan did. In the Olympics, it's doesn't matter what you did the previous 4 years...only the day of competition.

Well Elia's Chow interview is up:
http://www.chow.com/stories/10424
She confirms that the Marcel 'attack' happened BEFORE they shaved their heads..that she did not really think the Marcel 'attack' was a big deal, and that Cliff should not have gone home..she also talks about Marcel cheating..etc...
She also says the tV.com poll was affected by a 'Marcel hacker"-LOL..what utter [censored]..I followed that poll and helped to incite the marcel vote by giving Ilan thousands of votes myself..I followed alot of it on TWoP while it was happening..poor deluded Elia. There was not 'chitting' on the poll on tv.com..just some avid Marcel supporters.. lol
She sounds pitiful and spoiled to me in her interview.
I listened to both Elia's and Sam's interviews.
1. Elia seems to have reverted to her whining about the judging not being fair. She literally cannot accept that she was criticized for not bringing the flavors of Hawaii into her tuna dish. She complains that she used that special Hawaiian leaf (whatever it was) to wrap it and cook it in, and how dare they say she didn't use Hawaiian ingredients. But, Elia, the whole point is that the judges didn't TASTE any Hawaiian influence in the tuna with Mediterranean sauce. Get OVER it.
2. Also, she says the reason Marcel irritated everybody so much is that he was so "arrogant" throughout the competition. Since she actually trained him, it could be that his growing self-confidence just really pissed her off - a common response from a boss who just cannot accept that an employee is growing in experience and maturity, and perhaps beginning to outstrip the boss. I doubt if anybody would react that way if he were a tall guy -- I do think that his diminutive height makes people automatically regard him as immature and to assume he'll act more like a kid than an adult.
3. Elia DID confirm the sequence of the assault being first, then the others shaving their heads. HAH! We knew it, Bravo.
4. Elia expanded on Marcel's so-called "cheating," claiming that he brought all these powders that were against the rules, that the producers gave him a chance to surrender them, and that he did so. So, where is the harm, here? It is standard procedure to give the contestants a chance to surrender contraband. If Marcel did so, he also followed the program. Elia did not claim that Marcel had actually used any of those ingredients in the challenges, so how, exactly, does this translate into "cheating"? If he had been locking himself in the bathroom and reading cookbooks for four hours at a crack, then I'd be outraged. But I see nothing to be outraged about here. And, clearly, in the finale, he was permitted to use his own ingredients and equipment.
5. She also claimed that Marcel cheated in a tv.com poll by hacking the site and fixing it so that every time somebody voted for him, it registered a hundred votes instead of one. Oh, my God, give it up, girl. The above-quoted site confirms that there was just really heavy traffic in favor of Marcel during that poll. Are you really accusing him of being such a computer-savvy genious that he can hijack a website? PUH-LEASE. This "Marcel is the enemy, so he must have cheated if he did well" drivel is unbelievably unflattering to Elia. Let it go, already. The kid actually did well in Top Chef and in this poll, and she just cannot accept that others' judgment is different than hers. We've seen it before. She has some serious maturing to do, here.
6. Sam, in his interview, also confirmed the sequence of the assault was not as shown by Bravo. He downplayed the event in typical Sam "I'm-not-that-guy" manner. While acknowledging that Marcel was undoubtedly frightened by being jerked awake and having a much larger man tackling him, Sam said "What was I supposed to do, tell [Cliff] to stop it?" YES, YOU JERK.
7. Sam absolutely accepted the judges' decision to advance Marcel, admitting that it was very clear that Marcel had done very well and basically had blown the judges away.
8. Sam disputed the charge that he hadn't cooked anything, claiming that he had cooked 2 parts of his stuff. He said that the judges were clearly torn and had a tough decision and appeared to be grasping at any little thing. He was distinctly disappointed in the outcome, but didn't challenge the ultimate outcome, as Elia childishly did.
9. Sam disclosed that he and Elia are thinking of opening a restaurant together.
BTW, these interviews of Elia and Sam are very well done and very revealing. Strongly recommend a listen.

Well Elia has been revered by everyone on that show. All they keep saying is that she's so GREAT and she cooks beautiful food and she has all those degrees on her wall and she did train Marcel at the restaurant he now works in.....Must be a BIG bitter pill for her to swallow.
She was a competitive swimmer....She wants to win.
All her life she has been treated like a gawjuss princess probably who is far beneath criticism..She has shown time and time again she cannot take the heat....Even questioning Ripert's palate who as Cliff says ....well you know.
Allowing Mia to let he stay ...She felt entitled to that..you could see that...This is a big lesson for them all...if she said all that stuff..well shaking my head.
This will help her later in life if she learns from it all.

I try not to look too far into the drama of shows like this, but I guess you can’t really help it. However, I also wonder how much of it is completely mass produced by the producers hacking the film in post production. There was some talk about making reality TV game shows follow the same unscripted rules as other game shows (a la “Quiz Show”), but unfortunately I think many TV bigwigs stuffed the right political pockets and made the lawmakers conveniently forget about that whole idea. So I take the “villain” and “super hero” characters that they try to artificially create each season in these types of shows with a grain of salt.
If you’ve ever hung out with many professional chefs, one thing you’ll immediately start to notice is that the majority of them are as socially inept as most geeks. Marcel being the “a-hole” (as many have stated so eloquently) is really not that surprising. While there are a lot of celebrity chefs now days, you’ve got to figure that they’re only around 1:100,000. For the most part, the chefs I’ve met and worked with are generally unsociable, perfectionists, ill mannered and all around unpleasant unless they’re A: Drunk, B: Talking about their food, or C: Eating. This is especially true in the actual kitchen. They are usually the most unpleasant when cooking in their kitchen with others, or feeding someone whom they believe has no palette.
Honestly I hope that Top Chef is looking for the Chef with the best food, not the nicest guy or the one who looks the best on a poster in Teen Beat Magazine. Sam was an amazing niche chef – unfortunately diabetics often get the shaft when preparing gourmet food. Sam’s a good looking guy and if he markets himself as a “Top Chef” for diabetics, I’m sure he’ll make fistfuls of money with no problem. Unfortunately a niche is just that – a niche. Fats, oils, sugars and other emulsifiers may not be good for you but they taste darn good; and heck with all the worries about trans-fats now days, it may turn out that the lard was better for you than the vegetable oil anyway.
Personality wise, Marcel may be the [expletive deleted] of the season, Betty may have been the psycho, Mia the tragic, Elia the naďve, but Ilan has the manipulator title wrapped up in my book. Yeah, Marcel and Stephen (from season 1) may have been annoying, but you knew that they weren’t putting on some persona, and for lack any other description, they were the most open with their character. Ilan, Cliff, Betty and to a lesser degree Sam, have all either backstabbed or played the “Reality TV Surviving Weasel” game. No matter what you think of Marcel, you have to agree that Ilan manipulated and eventually threw Elia under the bus in front of the judges. Yes, Elia took the bait hook, line and sinker, and yes, she could have said “I have no idea what you’re talking about” in front of the judges when Ilan spoke up, but she didn’t, probably because she thought that she was going to get backed up by Sam and Ilan who were trying to convince her at the table after the contest to bring up the “cheating”.
To me, there is a very big difference between a Top Chef and a Great Chef. A Great Chef is probably what most people on this board are looking for – the kind of chef who’ll prepare dishes that 98% of the population will find acceptable and maybe even amazing. The guy who makes meat and potatoes in new and exciting ways that no one’s thought of before. However a Top Chef is the guy who impresses the Great Chefs – with ingenuity, flavor, and the command of their chosen specialty. A Top Chef’s meals will probably not appeal to the masses and will also probably not be something that you can make in your home kitchen. It will probably involve ingredients like truffles or fois gras or other items that cost hundreds of dollars per ounce/pound and even worse (or scarier for most) organ meats. A Top Chef is not there to please the masses; he is there to impress the professionals. A Great Chef is happy when his restaurant is making money, a Top Chef is happy when he’s makes someone whose palate he respects or admires, dance.
There are tons of undiscovered chefs working in numerous backwater kitchens across the world, and Ilan may be one of them. But in my mind he’s got to prove himself to be the same caliber as Marcel who’s already shown his chops by working at Joël Robuchon’s. If you know anything about Robuchon, you should know that he is the ultimate perfectionist, and he demands nothing less of his staff. While the Las Vegas restaurant is probably a far cry from his European establishments, you’ve still got to prove yourself before you enter his doors.
For Season 3, I hope the Bravo team stops spending so much time on team events. It’s not about playing nice in the sandbox; it’s about getting to know the chef’s true skills in their own standalone dishes. Who cares if dish 2 came out muddled because chef #4 who worked on it screwed up the sauce? I want to know if chef #1, who was the only person who worked on it (except for maybe plating), screwed up or made the dish fly. Who cares if the chef doesn’t get along with the other contestants in the kitchen? In the real world, a chef will chose his own staff, not get thrown in with a dozen people who all think they’re already executive chef material – the show is named “Top Chef,” not “Head Chef.” Leave the team contests down to only one or two shows. Granted, the drama is good for ratings and team situations make for the best fireworks, so I guess that suggestion’s probably out the window. It’s also too bad that the “Top Chef” is decided by a single finale contest – all previous achievements are thrown out the door. It’s more like “Top-Chef-for-this-battle”.
Ah, the “reality” of “reality TV”.

I just have to say I am disgusted at the outcome. I can't believe Marcel was picked over Sam. I have been so loyal to "Top Chef" but the outcome last night made me think I may never watch this show again. Letting Sam go after all that he had proved the entire duration was a huge blunder!

Wow - total disgrace. We watch for weeks and then we hear judges say that its not how the contestants behave - its how their food tastes -- that wins the game. Really? They rewarded ill-behaved Jeffrey on Project Runway, and now allow Marcel to proceed in favor of creative chefs like Elia. As crazy as Trump may seem - he knocls out the weirdos early in the game and see sleazy behavior as a negative. The judges on this show look old and tired and should be voted off the island themselves. Go Ilan. At least you have good hair
Bravo realises that outrage generates much more pub than a boring old fair competition. Wendy Pepper Santino Jeffery Shrek and now Marcel. Its not an accident that the most contravercial cast memember makes it to the end of ever season.
While I do think that the producers would think that a Marcel vs. Ilan cookoff would be "good" tv, I also think that Marcel won tonight on his food. The only one dissing it was Padma.
Two others besides Tom voted that his was the best. His dishes seemed to have the least amount of bad comments from the other judges.
I'm not saying Marcel's food was bad or even not the best because everyone said it was. I'm saying that they got rid of Sam to remove the best Chef to ease Marcel's ultimate victory.

I agree But Red Ronins is good for take out. (Chain Burger Joint) just make sure you check that they put the Burger on the facking Bun.

It's not a cumulative contest. Marcel didn't win over Sam, he just cooked the best. Sam didn't.

Thank you for that great post outlining every last detail of the loser's sour, pathetic attitude! I've found Elia to be conniving, selfish, & immature since the Mia bow out. I can't stand her! And I hate how she gives the judge's the evil eye whenever they are criticizing her dishes. Elia dear, it's time to put a period & move on, so you didn't win, nor did you deserve to win if you think your precious behavior standards should seal the deal b/c your behavior left a lot to be desired. The earth is still spining so just go on to something else, stop prattling on like a little brat! Sam has always irked me...he sets things in motion then watches as the others take up the torch he set ablaze only to jump back in as the "mature voice of reason". Gimme a break Sammy! Sam was boring, his food was boring, nothing cutting edge or charismatic about him or his dishes, & there's no way he deserved to be TC. Ilan also needs to grow up & start focusing on his cooking. I lost all respect for Ilan when he told Marcel he needed to lose his virginity (or something to that effect) after the 7 sins challenge...I just don't feel that as a grown man that is something you should be saying to another grown man. Then after last night's challange he told Marcel he was going to make him cry..how bout you just cook your food & Marcel cooks his food & let the judges take it from there? Ilan is too obsessed w/ Marcel when he should be focused on cooking! Every last one of those chefs was intimidated by Marcel, which is why they hated him. They all knew Marcel was a brilliant chef, they knew Marcel knew he was a brilliant chef & they knew Marcel knew they knew it. Elia confirmed that by saying she tolerated Marcel b/c he wasn't much of a threat to her (& by inference saying the other chefs were threatened) & so did Ilan by saying he couldn't stand Marcel's superiority complex...well if YOU don't think he's superior stop obsessing!! I didn't even like Marcel in the beginning until I realized they were all ganging up on him like a band of cliquish teenagers simply b/c Marcel was always putting out quality, risky, exciting dishes. I'm still doing my "Marcel is in the finals" victory dance

First of all let me say this. Anyone who was actually routing for Marcel is Delusional!!! (What's with his hair?) Secondly, Since wannabe Gail, the trampy judge Padma and Tom got rid of Sam, I can now say that this show is a joke! Not to mention that thier judges are a joke as well. I hav been a Chef for 12 years and owned a million dollar restaurant for 7 of those. I also have cooked side by side 2 of thier guest judges. I'm telling you this becuase I believe that any one of those guest judges would agree with me. You can bash me for my comment all you want. I will NOT watch the finale. I would put money on the fact that thier viewer ratings go down for the finale. Maybe next year they will get some Chefs to actually judge these competitors.

Really great post Penguin. In addition to what you wrote, I wish they'd judge blind, to take out some of the personal bias.

I hate to say it, but I think you are right about Marcel losing. Someone had talked about Ilan's myspace page earlier. I went on to check it out and he has a song called "Money in the Bank" playing. Then he states his income is between $100,000 and $150,000. He probably made 50,000 and won 100,000. Unless he is just trying to pull our chain....but I don't think so.
It's possible he makes that as a cook...but WTF is he posting his income?????

LOL hey I'm laughing too.
You guys just can't stand the fact that Tom's blogg spelled it all out and if Marcel does win its a irreputably tainted victory.
"I was ready to send the lot of them home and let Marcel win by default. For the first time all season, the Producers stepped in with a veto. Sending all of the chefs but Marcel home wasn't going to happen."
http://www.bravotv.com/blog/tomcolicchio/2...11_1.php?page=4
Apparently if Tom had his way it would have never been about the food.
Does anyone have the quote from Tom's blog last week? The one where he talks about throwing the other chefs off.
You know, I was thinking maybe I saw it somewhere, but maybe it was in another thread on another episode, or maybe on another forum altogether.
(OMG my stomach hurts from laughing so hard at this post!!!! )

As an ACTUAL Chef, Sam was a better choice than anyone there. He had cooking ability, and leadership skills. Not a single other person showed ANY leadership, let alone as much as Sam. I would work along side Sam any day. I thought Marcel was a great COOK...he has the actual ability, but he is not a chef, and he never will be. Someday, he'll be working for Sam, and they will both be making a lot of money. The only reason Sam got cut was to make the finale(something I won't be watching now)more interesting, because no one had a chance against him. I would guess that less than a quarter of the people on these boards actually cook for aliving, yet they certainly have a lot of opinions baout something they know nothing about. Any retarded chimp can learn to cook(Look at Ilan) but they can't all run a kitchen and handle any situation, form losing a dishwasher to the president of the company walking in with no notice. Sam can, the other's can't. People need to understand that Tom C. wanted good television, and he has sold out his integrity for it. I hope his career goes down in flames, I know I won't be eating at any of his restaurants anymore.

I coludn't agree more!!!!! I can't believe Marcel made the final two. He may win the title of Top Chef but there will always be the question of did he truely win it or did he win it so I wouldn't sue Bravo re:the Cliff incident? No question in my mind, if he wins it will be so he doesn't sue.
I can't believe the double standards in the judging this year. Ilan was told to leave the kitchen and that he wasn't going home because he took on the front of the house, in one episode, when he clearly wasn't a front of the house person yet Cliff who did the same thing remained up for elimination. One of the other chefs was removed from elmination because they took a risk on a dish yet Sam took a risk on a dish and remained up for elimination because in Tom's words "There is difference in taking a risk on a dish and taking a risk on a dish and following through." Anyone else besides me think there are double standards here?
Last season in the finale Tom said "A Top Chef inspires others to want work for him." Where in the world does he get the impression that Marcel would inspire anyone to want to work for him? I have worked with people who have personalities like Marcel and I can tell you they have never inspired me to want to work for them. All they have inspired is hatred and anger much like this finale. This is one family that will not be watching Top Chef again!!!!! I am extremely disappointed, I thought these judges really cared about who really deserves to be the Top Chef but it seems that the only thing that matters are the ratings. To me it doesn't say much for the judge's or bravo's integrity.

to hell with watching the finale, i wont be watching season 3!! i dont know how marcel made it to the final two. we might not be able to taste the food on this side of the screen but you cant be a top chef if everyone HATES you. this is crap.
So what matters in being a top chef is not innovation in your cooking or the favors you add to a meal or anything else but that you have to be LIKED?
I'm glad Sam left, and I'm one of many who hope Marcel wins. I wasn't a fan of Marcel's early on. I even liked Betty, I'm sorry to admit. But I quickly became real tired of these alleged "adults" in this competition whining and acting like they're still in grade school! Cliff and the rest blew it with me with that stupid "joke." I'm wondering if Cliff and the rest just handed it to Marcel then with their juvenile behavior.
Did they not remember that they're in a competition to represent this show and its sponsors? Would the title of Top Chef be handed to people who get drunk and laugh and call names and do nothing as another fellow contestant is being set upon by another? I would have had more respect for Sam if he had said, "Hey, Cliff, this is dumb." No, Sam just sits there and laughs and calls Marcel a "pussy."
You don't have to like someone but you should at least respect him. Whining and complaining about another competitor makes you look like a sore loser when you're tossed out.
And I loved that Sam had the same incredulous look as Cliff did when he was told to go. I could see, "Who me? But I should be the winner! How could you get rid of me?!"

Obviously you know nothing about being in a kitchen, so your opinion is invalid. But to clarify, being a CHEF is about being liked and respected. Being followed in other words. Being a cook is about inovation and great food. Both Marcel and Sam had GREAT food, but who in the world would ever follow Marcel? He might be better cook, but he is a crappy leader. And any professional Chefs you meet are just like these people behind closed doors. Don't forget we are seeing there "private" lives. Chefs by nature are immature, prone to play practical jokes(One of my Chef's early on in my career would like people's side towels on fire int he middle of service) and VERY rough with their language. It's part of the industry, and it's why they aren't Front of the house. I am glad to be a part of this industry and the back of the house in general for these reasons.
