Welcome to the Bravo message boards thread for episode 103 of "Shear Genius"! Tonight's episode has not one, but two eliminations! (Oooooh.) First, the stylists need to re-create the famous "Sally Shag" as performed by judge Sally Hershberger. Then they need to take some models' hair from long to short...with an unusual array of cutting tools...

Enjoy the show!

How many got their fix of watching Project Runway, Season I today?? Ran all day until the repeats of SG now!! Uggghhhh; Wendy was horrid!! It's like arguing with a Republican; you can't win!! They're always right (no pun intended) and you're always wrong (left)!! I can understand why they went with Jay, but I can't see wearing that stuff around!! Kara Saun's creations were quite beautiful, stylish, and memorable; plenty of leather and fur!! Tacky, tacky, tacky, some would say!! - Today's episode sounds idiotic!! Why cut someone's hair with hedgeclippers or anything else but normal shears?? Worried about getting stranded on Gilligan's Island without your scissor?? Stupid challenge here we come!! I suppose they can surprise me!! So much better than TD though!! Saved my wednesdays!! lol!!

Meh... I never really *got* all the hatred for Miss Wendy Pepper. I have watched that season a couple of times in search of a specific reason to hate on her too. All I got was that a handful of times she SPOKE of strategizing & manipulating. But as far as I was concerned, they ended up being empty promises for future drama. I really didn't see where any type of ruthless behavior took place on her behalf.

So how many spankin's do we all owe you birthday boy?

I watched parts of it but couldn't tolerate seeing Kara cheat and Jay using his family's quilts.
As annoying as Wendy was, I wanted her to win after it came down to these three.

Shear Genius is teaching me who I DON'T want to cut my hair!!

I loved this episode.....

Tyson wins the first challenge, and he did a smart thing since this is a competition, he chose his lesser competitors first, and the better stylists last for the tool and client of choice.

Tabatha could cut my hair anytime, and I wouldn't give her restrictions. Kindergarten scissors, geez, they don't even cut paper most of the time.

Evangelin pics a hedge clippers, and did a great job with the help of her client.

Good bye to Theodore, I truly liked him, wish he would have stayed longer.

I also thought Theodore was a talented stylist.
I myself have been in the hair business for almost 16 years and I absolutely love this show!!! I am never too old to learn something new....BUT I know I would've cut someones ear off, had I chosen those hedge clippers!!
agassii
Ok, just to be clear. The guy who is admittedly incapable of using scissors to cut hair advances, while the one who grew up in his mom's shop goes home?

Can anyone here say with a straight face that those two are even in the same ballpark in terms of ratings-ERRR! I mean skill, talent, and competence goes?

I think next week they should do the elimination competition blindfolded... using live barracudas to chomp through the hair. It's ANYONE's game!

This made me so irritated because of his order! I agree that that the last two he chose are the biggest threats but the last two being the least threatening? Dr. Boogie and Danna hadn't been in the bottom three until tonight! Danna is a fantastic stylist (I know from personal experience) and Dr. Boogie has definitely been creative. Both are more talented in general than Tyson. He has been in the bottom three!

I'm sure they edited out lots of the drama she caused, but let's play your little game. She lambasted other contestants in front of the judges and from the bad editing job these people do, she went on and on. Now the normal person in such a situation [ in a competition and doesn't want to lose ] don't retaleate back while the judges are standing there. So on both occassions she completely got away with taking the focus off her complete inability to actually sew / design / do anything worthwhile fashionwise. Secondly she completely stole Kara Saun's cloth, and it wasn't just one piece like in the bad editing, but she literally picked up the girls entire table.

I was realy sick when Jay one personally. That designer guy, what's his name mark kros, kriss kros whatever, has a thing for saying don't copy another designer "HOW FRIGGIN HYPOCRITICAL IS THAT" Designers send spys out to see what other designers are making and copy and have a fashion show before the other guy so that the other guy can't come out with his collection. The eliminated the girl in the swimsuit episode like that and Kara Saun. And we all saw the Kara had been doing those designs for yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeears. Besides, ... if my girl friend came home wearing the light blue huge crochet sweater from Jay's collection, i'd burn it or send it to my grandmother where it belonged. His collection wasn't visionary it was friggin plaid hokey from wisconsin or where ever he's from. He puts headphones on a bunch of models wearing quilts and they call it forward thinking? Give me a break, it's friggin redneck meets ipod. Hell not even ipod, it's friggin 1980's walkman still.

Oh yeah this thread is about the show. Hmmm, it was dumb and a let down. And they eliminated 2 people. I thought it was completely unfair to eliminate someone based on a 30 minute viewing of how to cut a style they probably had never seen up close before. The girl was from wisconsin or something?

[ for those keeping tabs, i use wisconsin to mean a place where rednecks come from or someone who has no sense of style, because frankly i think the population is like 50,000 in the whole state? hell i can't even remember the capital off the top of my head right now. ]

But anyway, yeah Dr. boogie got called out. He was given a severe finger waving at. The judges aren't stupid, well they were trying to say that. They coulda just called him out and said

"hey Dr. Boogie don't trip like that, we know you can cut so quit clowning. And, we know we still got yahoos in the competition ... hell the producers put them there."

As a viewer who isn't a hairstylist, I get lost on the judging part. It's hard for me to see what is technically wrong with some of their styles. Yeah some of them have sharp edges and fly aways after a cut, but they are given 2 hours to wash, dye, and cut someone's hair. 3 hours minimum. Are you only able to rent the salon for 2 hours at a time or something? Just seems weird. Please don't fall into the "Top Design" graveyard too, by making it a speed competition instead of a competition competition. We want to see what they can do, not what they can squeeze in, in 2 hours. We want to admire the hairstyles, not admire the speed. It isn't called Sheer Speed? How much better would all the hairstyles be with just another hour added on? We'd see a better product and ... you'd have a harder time judging them smile.gif We the fans who actually want to give this show a chance after stopping watching Top Design midstride, want to see a finished, polished product.

Yeah, that's one of the criteria that bothers me too.

I think the reason they have to do this, factor the speed element in, is because it'd probably be too hard to judge if everyone was given "enough" time. If everyone's best is out there, then it's merely (more) a matter of taste/preference. So they have to make it a gameshow. Which I guess is what it is. At least the time crunch is slightly more real world applicable than some of these other circumstances. I mean, I could imagine a scenario where work has to be done in a ridiculous time frame (last minute b/f a show or something), than using crap from michaels or cutting with hedge clippers!

This is why I wish they would just stick to more black/white competitions. Showing a picture or a style then match it, getting to an objective level on a color scale, etc. Those are more fair imo.

As cute as he was, Theodore deserved to go home, period. He was becoming very cocky and over confident and this competition is not only about showing your stuff, but being humble enough to take advice and to learn from others. Theodore thought he was the sh*t with that hair cut, but it looked also looked like sh*t aswell. He deserved to go.

Tyson needs to GO. I love how when he wins a quick challenge, his main challenge hair always looks horrible, it's like he thinks he's so great that he doesn't have to do well for the elmination challenge or anything. I don't like him, he bothers me.

Did you have a bad experience in Wisconsin? I went to the University there and did not find it at all a red neck state. Oh by the way the main campus of the University of Wisconsin is in Madison, the capital of the state. The campus there is one of the most beautiful in the United States and the University is know as being very liberal. The education there in the hard sciences is probably one of the best you can get. Are you from the left or right coast? Wisconsin is pretty advanced, as I remember when the speed limit was set at 55 mph across the United States Wisconsin was the only state that refused to accept that, they were on the cutting edge. By refusing to "do" the 55 mph thing, and it was their choice they relinquished all federal funding for roads during that period. No other state had the guts or were advanced enough to do that. I think they have style and are no where near being a red neck state. I am not from Wisconsin so you can not say I am standing up for my home state.

During it's run, I did not like Wendy, not one bit, but after watching the re-runs about a thousand times, I actually began to feel sorry for her. Everyone made her out to be this huge evil person when all she did was critisize Austin(which he kinda deserved) and Kevin(which he deserved) and in the end I thought it was hilarious when Miss Perfect ended up being the "cheater" and Wendy ended up doing exactly as she was supposed to do.
sandisays
Was anyone else astonished by the $600. hair cut. I am assuming that the judge was the "creator" of the cut and thats what she charged. That is the most obsured thing I've ever heard. Talk about waste. It is a cute hair cut but the first time I saw whats her name in a picture with it I honestly thought she just didn't do anything with it. I get my own hair cut about every 5 weeks and that would make my hair cut budget for the year around $7,200. No hair cut is worth that.
aquariaqueen
Nope, not worth it at all.
agassii
OK, I think I understand now. My problem is I am looking too hard for a connection between the competition process and merit, when it's really more about having the right attitude than anything else. Those cocky, hard-working, talented types can get pretty annoying when you look at it that way.

My new perspective in watching the show is to forget anticipating which contestant will rise to the top through their display of skill and creativity within a framework of real world technique and fundamentals of the industry.

It's the difference between collegiate wrestling and the WWE... fans of the latter cheer the personalities they love, and root for the ones they hate to be taken out by a metal folding chair.

ONly instead of folding chairs, we have hedge clippers!

Hi Kids,
Well gotta report. I went to Om beauty the other day (Daisy's Place) in Miami ,like I said before I could not get an appointment with Daisy for that day, so I got it with a girl named Milanka (very nice) and very talented too. all I did was a wash and blow , but I had enough time in this place to see Daisy work and hear some great gossip (though she would not talk about the show) anyway daisy is a trip! what a hoot! funny as hell, very animated always smiling and talking, she makes her clients feel at home and and it is a fun atmosphere in there. she is not that stuck-up,snobie hairstylist that never smiles, she is totally the opposite. she has definetly become one of my favorites on the show now, unfortunately I live to far to go back as often as I would like, But from what I saw of her, she is exactly as you see on TV ,she is awsome, the two girls that I saw at the salon, that she had done, looked great KUDOS to you Daisy! wouldn't doubt this girl goes far on the show!

I guess it can show who can CUT it in some way and really....What else are they gonna' do....let us watch peeps just cutting hair all the time and nothing else???

That might bore us for real..We're Bravo reality TV peeps..We like DRAMA!!!

So as usual....I see both sides...lol

You Know it is funny ( just jumping here Kristl) but growing up in the 70's I remember the shag...on men it was called a shag ,short on top longer on the bottom now called a mullet ...lol tongue.gif

Now the Shag is like that commercial where the guys are standing in line too get in a club and they all have bed hair.... blink.gif

I think for the most part IMO all the cuts looked similar in the first challenge except Lacey's ..I think she has watched too much BRAVO and thought that she would win cause she took a shag and interpreted it her own way! This was not to be....never challenge the creator..lol

Bye Bye Lacy.

Yes Tyson got cocky last night but if I was in his place I would have put the best last as well..they had no idea what laid in store for them at that point.

Dr. Boogie you have now been put down a notch as RN.Boogie for hedgeing our poor Frodo on at the last minute. And what was up with the corn roles and the broke back mountain outfit? Was he channelling Queen Latifa? I will miss that hairy armpit individual especially after he told his mother he was going to win the whole thing!!!! unsure.gif

And my dear Tabitha you are becoming more Borg each show just assimilate the whole gang and win this....childrens scissors? Brilliant!

And my dear Evangiline Garden Clippers? Brilliant if you never can make it as a hair designer you can always cut the animal shapes out of shubbery at the hotel in The Shineing! I'm so glad you won and was so terrified at the same time! biggrin.gif

Funny how all the contestants that got real scissors were in the bottom three.

This show just gets better and better!!!!

Madison is located between 5 lakes, while the University of Wisconsin in located between two of those lakes, Mendota and Menona. The University overlooks and wraps partially around Mendota and that is what makes the University very unique and beautiful. During the summer session it is like a summer resort. Yes the rural areas are pretty but the University is especially a treat for anyone that goes there with the two lakes.

There is no way i would have let anyone near me with a pair of hedge clippers. No amount of money would be enough. I think Tab is very good at what she does but could she lighten up on the clothes n smile a bit. she kind of reminds me of a relative of the Addams Family, like cousin Tab.
When is PR coming back I need better choices on Weds nights then what has been offered. TD was a bomb n SG isnt far behind them. Tc n PR were great. as to Wendy i couldnt stand her backstabbing every chance she got. cara should have won but she chose to use shoes not included in her budget like the rest and then tried to get away with it by presenting a phoney bill to suit her needs. jays designs were too out there for me and i was amazed he won. So its on to the next row of designers and another yr. hope it continues to be as good as the others n not fall into the TD n SG catagory.

p/s maine is rural n backwards in some areas for this NY gal but i love the peace here most of the times. i dont knock it.

I don't know how anyone who lives/lived in Wisconsin is going to feel about all of a sudden being referred to as a redneck, but if you stick to using Georgia, most might take it as a symbol of pride. biggrin.gif

Since I'm originally from Elvis-town myself, I'm still getting used to the mindset---- wink.gif

The shag they were working on was the 'Sally Shag' which was used during that Meg Ryan picture a hundred years ago!! It's quite precise, but again so stupid!! I wish I could afford a $600 haircut when I go every 2 weeks!! Talk about an expense; was worse when I was a bleached blond for 5 years!! I don't miss the upkeep!!
