Overall, I think Bravo did a very nice job at memorializing Doug. Tasteful and true.
I am sure that if I tore it apart minute by minute, I would find things that I don't like, but overall, it was very nice and fitting.
Glad to see Cheo. Loved seeing Peeler with Cheo and the story of the hummingbird.
Glad Laurie mentioned Doug, and yes, Laurie, Doug would have been proud of you!!!

Tonight's show was quite touching. Doug was one of my favorites. Then, I saw an ad for next week's show, and there was Jesse criticizing Rebecca again, accusing her of trying to promote her career through her relationship with Jackie. Why did Jesse apologize to Rebecca only to come back and do the very same thing again? Jesse, I don't know about you. You are even wearing your hair like Jackie's now.
I want to wish Rebecca and Jackie the best that life can bring to each of them. I even wish the best to Jesse.

how long were the skylab clients training for? unless it was a week or 2 i think their results are horrible. 2-9 lbs mostly?? and um .5 pounds and even some gaining weight?? they have the best trainers, the gym available to them whenever they want, jackie took them shopping for food and they each have their own top notch trainer assigned to them? does anyone else think those results are terrible? celebrity fit club has better results and they eat what they want and have no traineres, they work out one a damn week.

If they were training for 2 months, and the agreed upon healthy weight loss is 2 pounds a week... they would be averaging 16 pounds. I watched the repeat, and it looks to me like they averaged (across the group except for Kiki) 18 pounds. I think that's pretty good.
Some will lose more, like Laurie - she's about 10 years younger or more than the rest of them. Her metabolism will work with her.
Some will lose less, like Tess - she stated in season 1 that she had thyroid problems, AND she rehabed a knee injury during their time.
Some will be average, and some won't be into it.
all in all, when you look at averages, I think SkyLab was a success.
And it's no secret that I'm a fan of Tess's - now that she is becoming a trainer, I think she will rock their world! She KNOWS how hard it is. I'd love to get a session in with her!

Jesse... I guess I didn't find him quite that sincere when Jasmine asked him to come to Las Vegas to hear her sing...he seemed to hesitate and then said yes.
It was as though when he said he needed to come to LV more often he was saying it to placate her, and then when she called his bluff, stunned at her rapid response, had to stumble and quickly say "yeah, I'll come, I'd love to be there" kind of thing.
Anyone else feel that way?
p.s. She didn't seem that comfortable with him and/or the cameras. Maybe she didn't want the whole thing about her thyroid cancer. Afterall, a person with cancer is a person, they're not a cancer.

I think it should have been slotted into the episodes exactly when it happened....not the last episode.
The reason I wouldn't want it the first episode is because he had an active part in the season until he got so drastically sick.
Then they could have used the rest of this season to cope.

I think the segment about Doug last night was done with taste. I am sure the group spent quite some talking during that set up even though just a short segment was shown. I am sure it was cathartic for the trainers to share with each other their feelings openly in a relaxed setting.

I've watched a few episodes of 'Work Out' and I just don't get it.
What in the world is so special about watching a group of people doing nothing out the ordinary? They go to work everyday and then hang out afterwork. Uhh, ok...so??? Am I missing something?
I'm just dumbfounded why Ms. Warner would want to reveal her most intimate moments on camera. Let's see...perhaps she has an insatiable need for attention? Or maybe the ratings need a boost? It reminds me of a scene in Madonna's 'Truth or Dare' video when then boyfriend Warren Beatty, obviously annoyed that the camera is constantly intruding on their privacy, sarcastically quips that nothing doing is worthwhile unless you do it on film. Unfortunately Ms. Warner seems to be struck by that same spell.
Maybe it's my New York roots that turn me off to the show. My inherent East Coast philosophy of substance before style is exactly opposite of what Ms. Warner and 'Work Out' is about. There is just no redeeming value to the show nor is it in any way entertaining.

I personally would not go to lunch with clothes on I just did a workout in but then that is me.
Maybe Jackie needs to introduce a line of clothing that you can jump in the shower wearing, take the shower and stand in front of a drier and dry off and then go out to lunch.
I have a feeling that Jackie's present line of clothing is more for show, you know status...remember when everyone was wearing English riding apparel and did not even know what a horse looked like???

I don't get BravoTV but got hooked on the show while visiting a friend. I download the shows from iTunes. When I watched this weeks episode I noticed when Rebecca was talking about Tiffany's teeth that I heard someone off camera say something about her gums. Rebecca looked toward someone and then made the comment about the gums. I usually don't notice stuff like that but it was so obvious. May be she had a friend there while she was taping and the friend was reminding her what to say.
Also, I said something to a friend about the scene with Jesse and his friend, Jasmine at the doctor's office with her mother. My friend said there was no scene like that on the TV. Does the iTunes shows have extras added? Maybe my friend just missed that part.

The reason for my post is I kept looking at Jackie's father grave stone. I had previously noticed what I thought was a strip across his last name so it could not be viewed. The first time I noticed it I thought I was nuts or hallucinating , but after a few viewings of that segment I really think the people either worked on the film during editing or somehow put a strip of something on the grave stone while they were filming...I imagine it was for privacy which I can understand.

I have watched most of the reality shows on Bravo, and when you shake them up most are personality/character studies. Some may have more interesting other subject matter such as cooking, clothing design, etc. but basically they are studies of actions and reactions to the other contestants/participants or the challenges that occur or the challenges that are presented presented. Like all programs on the television you like some more than others, etc. I personally do not like sit coms but that is just me. I find the humor forced on a whole. It is like everything you can not please everyone all of the time. The great thing about television is that we either can get up and change the channel or push a button on the remote and one program is gone and a new one is on the screen. There are plenty of people throughout the United States that must like these shows on Bravo, if they didn't they would not longer be on television. Television at best is an escape, a means of relaxation and sometimes even educational. We are basically in control of the channel selection or the remote and that is the saving or redeeming feature.

Absolutely. Someone who's not even close to reaching a normal weight, has no background in sports and fitness, and has only been exercising for a short time- less than a year, anyway, has no business "mail ordering" a PT certification. I've seen people do this countless times at my gym and it never works. I think this Tess is impulsive and has a warped self image- it takes years of school and training to be a competitive personal trainer. Unless she's willing to go through the work and training involved and be patient, she'll never get a job.
Makes me wonder what her "dream job" was that she got fired from 8 years ago- perhaps something she was unqualified for?
First of all, Tess stated on the show that she was getting it through National Academy of Sports Medicine. That is not a mail order program. It's actually accredited. And sure, she has had her ups and downs, but the numbers on the scale (AND I STILL QUESTION THEM IN HER CASE) do not mean she does not have the knowledge.
I have obese clients that simply won't go to the gym because they are embarrased and daunted by all of the "thin" bodies there. What a gift it would be to them to work with someone who actually KNOWS their struggle and is working on it herself, but has the knowledge to help others. People relate to that. Look at the blogs and boards from last season!
You can say what you want, but I think there is a real niche for trainers like Tess. Go Girl!

Yes, perhaps. But not after one-two months of being in the gym. Yes, the certification is real, but it's basically an online "safety course" and multiple choice questions. To be a trainer, you have to know so much more. Even the average pt at a local gym will have a degree in human performance and physiology, sometimes a masters. I guess what I'm saying is "Would you plop down $200. an hour to have Tess train you with the experience she has now?"

Thank you so much for noticing the obvious - that there is sooooo much more to being a truly knowledgeable trainer than a seminar held over weekend(s) can possibly cover. The folks who proudly wave their certificates in front of you with names of places (schools?) that can't even remember their own names (hence why they need to be referred to as their ackronym), really have the most basic form of knowledge in the field - a general awareness of the subject matter, not an expertise. If your trainer doesn't have accredited background (basically a 4yr degree) in exercise physiology, nutrition, sports science, human performance he or she isn't worth the paper the certificate is printed on.

Okay, with all due respect, WHAT trainer has a 4 year degree?!? Come on, even the most respectable trainers rarely have that. Training is not a medical degree. It is health and fitness, but nothing more than that.
Why is everyone trashing trainers - who strive to CHANGE PEOPLE'S LIVES FOR THE BETTER?!?
We should also trash the following:
Workers who cook food for the hungry - WHY AREN'T THEY DIETICIANS
or
After school tutors - THEY SHOULD HAVE DEGREES IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
You get my point. Trainers - good trainers have at least 6 months training - and National Academy of Sports Medicine is ALL kiniesiology and physiology. It is not an online safety certificate. I looked it up, just for the record.
If what you want is someone to diagnose and treat injuries, that is not a trainer, true.
But if you want someone to teach you the proper way to use the equipment in the gym, proper form, and motivate you to make a change... well, THAT is a trainer.

There needs to be a clear differentiation between a minimally qualified personal trainer and a degreed athletic trainer). Training is not a medical degree (actually, it is a part of the medical response to athletic injury and rehab...medical). It is health and fitness (which are both serious sciences), but nothing more than that.

Yes, we can lighten up. Tess would be great fun for some people to work with, and make some overweight people feel very comfortable. She could be a worker in a fitness center, sure- so could you or I. I know the Sky Sport crew gets $200. plus per hour- that's where that $400 figure comes from- I think the "normal pay" for a trainer is about 50.-100. in the real world. And some of that has to go to the facility.
Top trainers who look like competitive bodybuilders and fitness models are intimidating to someone who's never been in a gym and can only walk slowly on a treadmill or lift small amounts of weight. If you belong to a center or a Y,or a jcc, you've seen obese people come in once or twice and give up. It would be awesome if there was a real, human-looking, loving staff to support them. Along with college-degreed supervisory staff who can show staff and clients how to train properly!
I'll try to be more positive about the show- after all, I'm watching it. It does amuse me. The banged up sad looking cardboard box with the "clothing samples" in it that Jackie kept lugging around to show everyone was hilarious. And she managed to talk her way around it to the Paiva people and look great. It's all in your attitude, I guess. So, go for it everybody!

Top trainers who look like competitive bodybuilders and fitness models are intimidating to someone who's never been in a gym and can only walk slowly on a treadmill or lift small amounts of weight. Yep, you hit the nail on the head!
I got my start in the industry a million years ago in the YMCA (Young Men's Caveman Association) while working my way through school. I received fitness training education at their national levels and got so wrapped up in it all that I went on to learn more, then found out that the more I learned, the less I knew, so had to go into deeper education to find more answers to questions that wouldn't leave my brain. The answers I found led to a myriad of more question...the cycle never ends, I guess :-)
Now I get to teach the teachers, and what's most wonderful of all...there are still volumes of knowledge out there waiting to be explored.
I am a strong advocate for the environment you described in your post, but that will require the issue of fitness to be less about money and more about truly helping the diverse masses. The industry needs to be driven by more folks who really are passionate about the human condition. Health and fitness belongs to all of us, not just those who can afford it.
